# Firewalk Studios Shuts Down
[An Update from PlayStation Studios](https://sonyinteractive.com/en/news/blog/an-update-from-playstation-studios/) by Hermen Hulst
> "Regarding Firewalk, as announced in early September (An Important Update on Concord), certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline. We have spent considerable time these past few months exploring all our options.
>
> After much thought, we have determined the best path forward is to permanently sunset the game and close the studio. I want to thank all of Firewalk for their craftsmanship, creative spirit and dedication."
*Concord* and its team on [[Concord Put on Ice|on ice]] indeed. It's a shame that this all went down the way it did. My best to all those at Firewalk and Neon Koi.[^1]
Related, Ethan Gach at [Kotaku](https://kotaku.com/firewalk-studios-concord-ps5-sony-live-service-shutdown-1851684290), wrote in his story the following about the cost;
> "The initial development deal for the game was just over $200 million, according to two sources familiar with the agreement but who were not authorized to speak publicly about it. But Kotaku understands that amount was not enough to cover the game’s entire development and did not include the purchase of Concord IP rights or Firewalk Studios itself, which Sony acquired only last year."
Key word there being *initial*. This sounds completely in line with [[Concord and the Coat of Many Failures|previous reporting]] from Colin Moriarty. When *Concord* was a ProbablyMonsters project, they raised $250 million in Series A funding. Then Sony signed to publish. Then Sony bought the whole package. Then Sony had to pay to get the game done.
[^1]: The other studio axed in this announcement. The mobile plans for Sony always sounded flimsy and its a shame another studio has paid the price for a lack of vision from the top dogs. The name "Neon Koi" is very good though.
