A colorful and vast cast of characters come together to explore a huge world in an airship before a apocalyptic event changes the land. The battle system is turn-based/real-time that gives you control of four party members at a time. # Acquisition I saw Cybertron Winter Springs post this for sale for $50. I knew I wanted to buy this game, despite not having a functioning SNES at the time. # Memories I remember the situation around buying it. I asked Abby if I could get it for my birthday, despite not having a console that could play it. I had always heard wonderful things about this game. It was a pinnacle of JRPGs. I knew this was something to have in my collection. I didn't play the game until 2021. I used my Super NT and the DAC to play it on my CRT. I went for an authentic experience and even printed out a GameFAQs walkthrough. I loosely documented my experience in [[Forgive Me Uematsu, For I Have Sinned – Final Fantasy VI by Sebastian Deken and Boss Fight Books|my review]] of the book by Sebastian Deken. As for the game itself, the [introduction](https://youtube.com/watch?v=i28UR-tJU7A) is legendary, iconic, immaculate. I cannot stress that enough. But I grew frustrated with the gameplay over time. I think the guide I used was a part of that. Perhaps I should have sought out the official player's guide. That would have been authentic. I stopped at the halfway point fighting Kefka in the sky and getting trounced because I was under leveled. I'd go on to review the book mentioned before. That was a key memory too. I learned the whole plot of the game and how the music wove into that story. It's a marvelous game, even though I haven't finished it. # Related Posts - [[Forgive Me Uematsu, For I Have Sinned – Final Fantasy VI by Sebastian Deken and Boss Fight Books]] - [[MFP19 - “A Big ba-Daunt da Daunt” with Scott White]] # Versions - Super NES Classic Edition # Miscellaneous - [*Final Fantasy VI* by Sebastian Deken and Boss Fight Books](https://bossfightbooks.com/products/final-fantasy-vi-by-sebastian-deken) - 8-bit Music Theory's series on the game - [Final Fantasy VI Analysis Series PART 1: Development of Melodic Ideas](https://youtube.com/watch?v=LBFD1Oqbhg0) - [Final Fantasy VI Analysis Series PART 2: How an Idea Grows Across a Soundtrack](https://youtube.com/watch?v=jyKxKagJ4UM) - [Final Fantasy VI Analysis Series PART 3: Dancing Mad](https://youtube.com/watch?v=RbeXHTDVX8c) - [The Introduction cutscene in 4K](https://youtube.com/watch?v=i28UR-tJU7A)
