# *Donut Dodo* Notes A coin-op inspired arcade platformer where you play as Baker Billy Burns and steal donuts from a giant dodo. It's snappy, satisfying, and sublime. A game lost in time that has captivated my attention and the quarters of my time. > [!warning] > Spoilers below! ![[Donut Dodo Notes.pdf]] ## Stats - Started Playing: 6/24/2025 - Beat: Never - Total Playtime: Forever ## Overall - A little Pac-Man (screen-wrapping). A little Burger Time. A little DK. - There is something in my brain that is so satisfying about “unlimited” credits. - I keep coming back to this game. It just might be perfect. - I want a cabinet. - Perfect little game to play with my 8BitDo arcade stick. ## Story - Getting a donut from a giant dodo? - Defending my donuts or stealing the bird’s donuts? Am I the villain? ## Gameplay - Dude. It’s *perfect* with an arcade stick. - Very *Donkey Kong*-esque. Collect donuts, jump over gaps, avoid obstacles. - Even DK Jr inspiration! - The game is so snappy. Easy to fit in five minute chunks. - When you get through the Dodo’s lair, you loop back! And then it goes faster and adds more enemies! Oh mama. - Each level has these small routes and movement options/tech that you can leverage to go faster. - Memorization and execution are vital for stacking that flashing donut combo, which is key for the high score. ## Music/Sound Design - High energy, crunchy, pump up arcade music. - I am eating up this music. ## Graphics/Performance - Sublime arcade look. Solid CRT filter with toggles. ## World - There’s a carnival, a candy store, a factory(?). Very fun theming. - Five worlds total. The perfect amount for this kind of game I think.
