And now to welcome our guest to the show for this very special episode, Michael Coswara.
*00:00*
I remember why I like it so much.
*00:00*
So we can't play that.
*00:00*
The one other thing I want to say about Rusty Bucket before we move on, and this is this isn't even a really a discussion with that level specifically, but more about the game in general.
*00:00*
But I think the entire format and evolution of that world is more unique than anything a lot of platformers have ever done.
*00:00*
Yeah, everything you said, completely agree.
*00:00*
uh like a center focus, a center something that the player will f will either be drawn to most of the time or uh
*00:00*
I think one way that this level could have been improved is just more dramatic changes in the paths.
*00:00*
I don't want to say basic, but it's not the most inventive or the most exciting.
*00:00*
You turn into an alligator, who, granted, does have an attack, unlike the walrus and the pumpkin.
*00:00*
Replay it on the virtual console for Wii U.
*00:00*
But if this level was more just circular and had the alligator in the middle, that central point, then maybe something different.
*00:00*
So then you're confused, will it happen again?
*00:00*
And I like the idea that he's just a giant garbage garbage disposal fish.
*00:00*
I feel like Bubbles.
*00:00*
You'd go to school, you'd talk about the games you play, and you can kind of figure something out based on, oh, somebody else did it and they told me you have to talk to some
*00:00*
I love this game.
*00:00*
And you can find Michael on Twitter at Super Zambezi, Z-A-M-B-E-Z-I.
*00:00*
Oh, I don't do that every Wednesday anymore because I have this new job.
*00:00*
Uh you may have noticed that we just wrapped up the show, but now you hear my voice once again.
*00:00*
And then Kazooie is the swing in the opposite direction, very chatty, very sarcastic, very rude, and self-serving, but ultimately willing to help in the end.
*00:00*
If you're on the lead up to Mad Monster Mansion, it's gonna start to sound a little bit more spooky, or if you're heading towards Goby's Valley, it's gonna sound more uh
*00:00*
I highly recommend it.
*00:00*
Banjo Pilot.
*00:00*
No worthy too with the Donkey Kong country.
*00:00*
This is this is the game.
*00:00*
It it would appear so.
*00:00*
came to the jigsaw place super early.
*00:00*
You know, um and it I like that it becomes a little bit more of a challenge uh just in the later segments of the
*00:00*
It's hard to remember.
*00:00*
Or maybe not like I actually read it, but I thumbed through that thing and looked at all the pictures and stuff in it more times than I actually beat the game or whatever.
*00:00*
I think behind Clip Clock.
*00:00*
Pretty easy.
*00:00*
Um so yeah, I I I I love this level.
*00:00*
Do stuff in the colour.
*00:00*
something uh the croc can bite whatever the bee can fly quickly uh those were those were great the walrus for example uh basically a key just a key to get places
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
kind of a Yeah, I I guess you have a fair amount.
*00:00*
And then the only way you can do it.
*00:00*
Uh I actually have to go change back, destroy it, turn into the pumpkin again, and then go back.
*00:00*
You get scared of weird things when you're a kid, but that used to scare me.
*00:00*
Um, I feel like a lot of things that you feel like that are made nowadays uh with this level of charm and style come from the indie scene rather than from triple A devs or publishers.
*00:00*
needs it to vary it's a collect a thon it's a gameplay focused game so you it the the the things like the story and stuff are mainly just to serve you
*00:00*
Like it's hilarious that Kazooie takes pretty much as beaten up as the attack.
*00:00*
to me.
*00:00*
Hello everybody and welcome to Chapter Select, a seasonal podcast where we bounce back and forth between a series of games exploring their evolution, design, and legacy.
*00:00*
Followed by Banjo Tui.
*00:00*
Game Boy Advance nowadays, maybe we skip it.
*00:00*
And that'll be our next episode.
*00:00*
Undoubtedly.
*00:00*
Uh the producers were Tim and Chris Stamper, and then the music the famous music, done by Grant Kirkhope
*00:00*
When we first got it for Christmas, when we we played it on a specific day in a specific place, that stuff's nostalgic.
*00:00*
Yeah, this is like just more so than any other game from that era.
*00:00*
So I never bought the Xbox port.
*00:00*
from being a kid and trying to beat it.
*00:00*
And now, ironically, we play it for the show.
*00:00*
It was kind of ironic that I waited all this time to play it on N64 and then I never actually did because the just priorities changed.
*00:00*
The the fear of losing your note progress, you should probably play the N64 version.
*00:00*
And I need to find this Cheeto one more time.
*00:00*
the rest of forever with banjo, but uh I think it'd be fun to try to figure out how we feel about them here.
*00:00*
More I'm ki more curious about that than what you would think is the best, honestly.
*00:00*
Water levels from the nine from the nineties.
*00:00*
Uh there's really only the dolphin that is like the side character in this level, and then I guess the TNT box or uh the not the TNT box, but the just the box boss in general.
*00:00*
There's no real point to it other than just making you do that.
*00:00*
But it's only like slightly different too.
*00:00*
Because it's a separate texture, the others are not.
*00:00*
uh with how you have to do the rising water levels and stuff like that and you have to find both of the switches before you can then access the it and it's also rare that you find the entryway for Rusty Bucket Bay before you find
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
This is cool.
*00:00*
But then I couldn't figure out where Clankers Cavern is.
*00:00*
Which they want you to find early on.
*00:00*
the r the the files in my brain and pull out the pull out the files and uh that I've got all the the Banjo Kazooie strats tucked away in somewhere.
*00:00*
Sixty to seventy seconds to get to that one on the back of the rudder and it feels like it's like forty maybe or so, something around there.
*00:00*
like that.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
stuff like that and I think that's really cool.
*00:00*
uh just kind of always be aware of and and drawn to, right?
*00:00*
Uh to holes in the tree?
*00:00*
um uh in click clock wood was the beaver.
*00:00*
And the flying to hit them is the only way to kill them.
*00:00*
the thing but the leaf is very small and you can kind of use it to go up but you shouldn't you should just go the normal way but then as time goes on you can now start using those leaves you have a new path so
*00:00*
About hit.
*00:00*
This really does have like ten of the most unique jiggies in a level that are making you do very different things uh in a single level to earn each of them.
*00:00*
There's like n no real interesting characters or fun in Rusty Bucket Bay, and then you look at a level like this and it's just that it's it's it's everywhere.
*00:00*
Um it's it's up there.
*00:00*
Uh that's what I did.
*00:00*
I was just gonna say, I still like the moments when you transform into things, but you're not wrong that there's not a lot to do with them most of the time.
*00:00*
That sucks.
*00:00*
But I felt like he got more fleshed out as a character in this game than I remember, and maybe I'm kind of crossing my wires with Tui, where I feel like he gets
*00:00*
Maybe not a bigger one.
*00:00*
Ma g uh they give him more stuff to do, I I i in a more direct role at least.
*00:00*
one of the upper mid levels for sure.
*00:00*
Maybe just because you don't realize that that's what you have to do to help him.
*00:00*
But look, I acknowledge that it's just a good starter level.
*00:00*
Count in a second.
*00:00*
Running shoes first, which is a little annoying because typically you do this level out of order.
*00:00*
You get them in Gobi's Valley, but it is very possible to win without them.
*00:00*
Michael, you most likely have played it more recently, which I I would d definitely defer to you there.
*00:00*
However I unlock the shoes and and freeze easy peak.
*00:00*
about.
*00:00*
Heads up, okay, thank you.
*00:00*
There's not as much, if I remember correctly, there's not as much uh not as many characters.
*00:00*
But that's the one time it like totally forces you to do it, right?
*00:00*
Um there's requirement.
*00:00*
Mumbo's I don't I just don't really have design problems with, but it is just unremarkable, I guess.
*00:00*
Delair a little bit more to go find her.
*00:00*
to that one witch that's nice that I saw one time where I didn't even know that that existed.
*00:00*
This man's been playing video games for 25 years.
*00:00*
It's actually a dark and creepy tower and you get to the big room and just a giant portrait of Gruntilda, the main boss, and you need all these jiggies for it, and the doors open and there's the cauldron and
*00:00*
Oh no, wait, now I'm time traveling and I'm an adult and there's more.
*00:00*
My beef is more with just the flying mechanics than the actual like goal of hitting her while flying.
*00:00*
Very relevant for a game that doesn't do for a series that doesn't do anything.
*00:00*
Find myself on Twitter at Max Roberts143 and my writing over at maxfrequency.
*00:00*
with Banjo Kazooie that we kind of realized after we had wrapped up the show with Michael.
*00:00*
But there were just a few things we wanted to touch on specifically around just the characters and story and the music.
*00:00*
discuss them too much as characters and they're all great characters and they're all uh I think a lot of the reason why people like these games.
*00:00*
Like things like that.
*00:00*
And it's something they commit to in every one other one of the games thereafter.
*00:00*
I I I feel like we talked about the songs that we really like in the game.
*00:00*
Mario 64, it would it's just like text would just appear on the screen or same sort of thing with a Zelda or something like that.
*00:00*
It's just like the when the credits roll in the game, you go and visit, it cuts to all the different characters, side characters and stuff, and they all have voices and personality.
*00:00*
instead of a talent trot.
*00:00*
Filter that they put that through or something like that or if he'd straight up re-recorded it to sound a certain way like that.
*00:00*
Um, and just shows the amount of care and attention that they put into the soundtrack specifically and the sound design.
*00:00*
I I I'm very sorry if we kept you if we kept you over, Michael, because we really did not know.
*00:00*
I would also meet it is longer than God of War twenty eighteen.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I'm totally fine with because I don't think there's a really uh a moment where it's just kind of like, okay, like what's going on?
*00:00*
We are covering the Banjo Kazooie series.
*00:00*
Nintendo exclusive series, a PlayStation exclusive series, and now we're giving Xbox some love with season three.
*00:00*
Okay, well then never mind.
*00:00*
I think it's just like got totally rebooted internally.
*00:00*
Logan and I were a whopping four years old to the like I think your birthday is a day before, if not.
*00:00*
I know some of the games they're working on now, I think one of 'em was straight up canceled.
*00:00*
of 2008.
*00:00*
Nintendo sixty four, it's pretty actually pretty wild.
*00:00*
Maybe a month or so ago.
*00:00*
for this inaugural episode.
*00:00*
That was necessarily too tough of an ask because of uh how much you love Banjo Kazoe, would that be correct?
*00:00*
uh ultimate on the Nintendo Switch.
*00:00*
Anytime you ask me, I'm in the process of playing this game again.
*00:00*
and I've created my own stuff and I'm still creating my own stuff and people watch me stream as I make levels and stuff.
*00:00*
to just have this one thing that you're always kind of playing or maybe tooling around with in the background.
*00:00*
Uh, because this game came out in the summer and I had seen it on store shelves for a long time and I was always like, I want that game with the bear up there.
*00:00*
Uh I mean obviously we'll talk about the how we feel about the game nowadays uh as the show proceeds here, but it's almost hard for me to
*00:00*
These level like every time I'd get to a new level it would take me like a month of progress in the game until I finally got there.
*00:00*
It makes capture way, way easier.
*00:00*
One of the games that I just really sunk a lot of time into.
*00:00*
And so it was cool to see that for the first time now in twenty twenty-two in four K HDR at sixty frames a second.
*00:00*
This is this weird alternate world where even though it's not alternate, where Banjo survived for the past twenty years.
*00:00*
Then I replayed it when it came out on rare replay.
*00:00*
to Super Mario Sixty Four.
*00:00*
Pretty much a single structure that then has all these worlds within it, a hub world.
*00:00*
I don't know if we well, you don't need to touch on said holy worth the time.
*00:00*
Yeah, so I guess you take that away then you have nine total worlds with ten jigsaws
*00:00*
Not jiggies.
*00:00*
This is something I would like to do in the three mainline games that I think we should do with all of our different guests on those.
*00:00*
I obviously we just can't go, oh, this one's the worst, like as a group, because I found out last night just through a brief conversation with Max that
*00:00*
The levels that I think are the best in this game, he thinks are the worst.
*00:00*
I I guess how how what would your own hierarchy look like here?
*00:00*
Clinker's Tavern is one I would put near the bottom as well, personally.
*00:00*
Go back and get.
*00:00*
It's like a hike to get where you want to go and it's because there's a big boat in the middle and water surrounding it.
*00:00*
3D platformer, look at these cool things we can do in 1998.
*00:00*
that does kind of break that travel thing that the game wanted you to do.
*00:00*
The things I don't like the most about games in general and some things about Banjo Kazoe are the things that are unfair.
*00:00*
And there's one jiggy in particular, uh not the super challenging one, the one where you have to break a window to get into the captain's quarter or something.
*00:00*
Like the haunted mansion.
*00:00*
Telling you, hey, you should hit this.
*00:00*
I I don't know if Michael would share this cinnamon cause maybe because he's played this game so much, but I think the way you unlock this level is a little bit more obtuse than some of the other ones
*00:00*
Uh, which I think is different because it made me this time around, uh, I almost forgot like, did I miss something?
*00:00*
Tripping myself up trying to re trying to remember that.
*00:00*
I guess what people would would refer like a Metroidvania kind of moment or a Zelda moment.
*00:00*
I and I think that's why I I love Grintilda's lair so much because of moments like everything that we just talked about, even you call yeah, said it in a negative way.
*00:00*
You do feel uh you do feel a little bit more lost, I feel like, when trying to find this one.
*00:00*
Go explore the castle a little bit a little bit more.
*00:00*
The game pretty guides you to those two fairly easy.
*00:00*
But that I think is an early example of that, showing you that there's more to this than just A, B, C, D, and so on and so forth.
*00:00*
I I told Max this the other day because I strangely saw it at a store.
*00:00*
And I'd but I'd believe you if you said you actually read the book.
*00:00*
It feels familiar.
*00:00*
The power of the Xbox is just too much.
*00:00*
But yeah, I anything that's timed in this game I feel that way about.
*00:00*
I think it is one of the most unique platforming worlds ever.
*00:00*
From front front to back.
*00:00*
Going up, spiraling across, and it's a simple thing to do, but there's always something different to do each time and you get to see how it changes and evolves and it's actually like the theme.
*00:00*
You would push a button or maybe like an Oracle of Seasons type thing where you could just kind of wave a wand and it would change seasons
*00:00*
when you say that out loud and you think about it.
*00:00*
But I just I really struggled climbing the tree.
*00:00*
bring this up with you off airlogan, but I think it's applicable here.
*00:00*
But yeah, that tree, I just did not like climbing it.
*00:00*
Even some of the paths change.
*00:00*
Yeah, uh not retread literally re-tread the same ground over and over.
*00:00*
Michael, I guess what is your if you have a clear number one, what is it?
*00:00*
Um and like you said, flying around.
*00:00*
Uh so that's one of the main reasons I like him like this level a lot.
*00:00*
Every single thing in this in this level is full of characters.
*00:00*
talking to you and is telling you that he's about to eat you.
*00:00*
So I really like this album a lot.
*00:00*
Actually really scary threat 'cause you do not swim you have not swam much at this point.
*00:00*
Cause the fly like flying and getting them dead if there were crosshairs or just something that could help me point directly ahead, um that would be super great.
*00:00*
That's also like six, seven year old Max, not twenty-seven year old Max.
*00:00*
Or the I just spider or whatever it is.
*00:00*
And I was like, I can't figure out how to get there.
*00:00*
No, I didn't get it.
*00:00*
Once again, you found a flaw in this perfect.
*00:00*
The ones with abilities, like that one can go up very sleep s steep slopes and um
*00:00*
Uh it just varied if they were cool or useful or not.
*00:00*
This is kind of the general format of how each of these levels are going to be.
*00:00*
Clearly not trying to be anything more than that and I kind of like have a fondness and respect for it or maybe not respect, but um I just don't have anything bad to say about it necessarily
*00:00*
this is what you're actually going for and collecting and and so on and so forth.
*00:00*
fun crazy stuff that you can do later.
*00:00*
Yeah, the game also doesn't tell you that.
*00:00*
That's funny.
*00:00*
I think the biggest you mentioned the disjointed feeling of it, which yes, it is disjointed.
*00:00*
Four hallways.
*00:00*
What about the maze?
*00:00*
Gobies Valley, I'm very torn on.
*00:00*
There's the Sphinx and the Pyramid and Magic Carpets.
*00:00*
Yeah, okay, so that is that's my biggest beef with this game.
*00:00*
It doesn't matter which one you do first because both of them will be missing something from the other.
*00:00*
If I was playing a game like that today, and I ran into World 5 and I couldn't get this one jiggy, I'd be searching that level up, down, left, right, every single corner for
*00:00*
Because some of the notes are inside the pyramid that is opened after you fly and dash into the t the target.
*00:00*
I think my favorite part of this level is when you turn into the pumpkin and you jump in the toilet mouth and then uh Grunty says, like, wow, you're disgusting.
*00:00*
Well actually I think this is her this is like her house.
*00:00*
A gate that you should be able to knock down, but you can obviously, but it's just it looks ever so it looks slightly off, but it also looks like it fits in with the background.
*00:00*
Okay, so that's seven and six, and then five.
*00:00*
I'd put monster buff above.
*00:00*
Maybe not with your eyes closed, but I'm gonna guess you know most of the answers other than the uh Gruntilda facts, which are I found out this time playing it are uh different every single time you play the game, correct?
*00:00*
Can't confirm or deny, but that would be annoying.
*00:00*
These like really empty spacing?
*00:00*
Something around there.
*00:00*
She said three things.
*00:00*
a game show and you save two and you get credits and whatever it's over.
*00:00*
You're just stuck there.
*00:00*
Not that you actually would.
*00:00*
Um, I think it's very clever in that way and it's a good incentive.
*00:00*
And then you get to the end and you save your sister, um, and then they tease you again with like, well, if you actually want to take her out, you gotta get to the top of the tower and fight her and stuff.
*00:00*
Because the goal of Wind Waker is save your sister.
*00:00*
But I Ocarina of Time, another NCC for Game probably had a similar thing where it's like, Oh I'm a kid, I got all the things I need
*00:00*
and trying to Yeah.
*00:00*
That was the thing you never again.
*00:00*
any statues and they'll kill her.
*00:00*
That's the random part about it.
*00:00*
So I like the fight, all in all.
*00:00*
to her, at least as an adult.
*00:00*
I'm glad that I'm not just some rando person losing their mind over this game nobody knows about, people forgot about.
*00:00*
How people think about that.
*00:00*
How much you can do even with limitations to really give your game personality to give it um what's the word?
*00:00*
with the audience uh point them toward anything?
*00:00*
Um and then Tutti's really not in a ton, but uh yeah, I I don't know.
*00:00*
I mean that's kind of his ga hub.
*00:00*
carry the game.
*00:00*
For sure.
*00:00*
jumping around and going to different worlds and things like that.
*00:00*
Yeah, very I I I loved Banjo's kind of like argument to convince Kazooie to go fight Grunty at the end is you can peck her butt.
*00:00*
Fun, fun thing.
*00:00*
in the game.
*00:00*
Uh like I can hear the way that Grunty and Mumba like the the obviously the writing is not or the the dialogue in the game is not English.
*00:00*
Move.
*00:00*
Those sound effects are definitely used quite quite a bit, and I'm sure it's the same in Tui.
*00:00*
limited in scope.
*00:00*
Answers are surely on the inner internet that you can go find.
*00:00*
So I it's just it it it all these years later that stands out to me as like one of the most impressive things about this game.
*00:00*
just at zero volume and then they become unmuted when you go in the water.
*00:00*
Season three is all about Banjo Kazoe.
*00:00*
When you find out who his neighbor is, I guess is what I'll say there.
*00:00*
There's a lot of good sound effects in the banjo games.
*00:00*
It's a Nintendo and an Xbox video game.
*00:00*
Logan was very adamant about not playing the other banjo game for Game Boy Advance, Banjo Pilot.
*00:00*
Uh just out of simple curiosity, looked it up, Banjo Pilot pretty much up until 2019, early 2020, was coasting around.
*00:00*
The Xbox 360, which happened in 2008.
*00:00*
Forward compatible on that same hardware.
*00:00*
It got a 92 out of 100 on Metacritic for the Nintendo 64 version back in 98.
*00:00*
There you go.
*00:00*
Anyway, those that's kind of the standing of where Banjo has been, and really we haven't gotten a Banjo Kazooie game since 2008.
*00:00*
a seventy seven.
*00:00*
agreed on banjo.
*00:00*
why you came to mind for me because uh I think if anyone follows your work uh they know why I chose you so
*00:00*
Sure, I mean, outside just my undying love for this game, I love this game so much.
*00:00*
the deeper side of the community where people are modding the game, where people are creating their own levels and actually making them playable in the original game.
*00:00*
And frankly, I'm happy.
*00:00*
I like that question a lot because there are moments where I I wonder do I actually like this so much like as much as I do because it's just constantly there.
*00:00*
Like I remember playing this, I remember this moment and stuff about the game itself, not the stuff around it.
*00:00*
100% just a nostalgia shot in the arm.
*00:00*
in me to this day and is just like I like this game with the bear and the bird in it.
*00:00*
At some point or another I did that.
*00:00*
Xbox 360 and then whatever the I guess it would have just been the 360 version that was included in Rare Replay, but then now there's like the Series X version that's
*00:00*
kind of more in uh enhanced or whatever.
*00:00*
I've at least I'm pretty sure I've I've at least tried it on every every place it's been released.
*00:00*
The other ones they're all the same, basically.
*00:00*
arcade we were borrowing a 360 at the time oh no no my brother would fix the red ring of death no was it that i don't know he'd fix some problem that people would have buy them cheap
*00:00*
uh fix it, we'd have it for like a few weeks and then sell it.
*00:00*
Does it?
*00:00*
I got you.
*00:00*
Uh yeah, that was it.
*00:00*
Of like the world and how it was connected that I was expecting.
*00:00*
So maybe they change something along the lines.
*00:00*
loud about that fact.
*00:00*
11 total worlds or levels in Banjo Kazooie.
*00:00*
I I just finished banjo like an hour.
*00:00*
I I I I don't I wouldn't say there's a really a horrible level in this game in in this game, but there are some that I definitely don't like compared to the others.
*00:00*
Just kinda good slash okay.
*00:00*
Always gotta do it first though.
*00:00*
I would say that one's near the bottom.
*00:00*
More jiggies are on the boats and the crane, none of it really is happening in the water.
*00:00*
You will like it's to go from one side to the other, you're either crossing over the ship or swimming and hopping on bike.
*00:00*
Um why are the t the tolls are uh just a weird thing that are chuck is chucked in this level as well, I think.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
two air bubbles or take your air twice as fast.
*00:00*
uh the the jigsaw puzzle.
*00:00*
Where Rusty Bucket Bay is going to be, and then the puzzle door the puzzle that you have to solve is past it or above it or whatever.
*00:00*
You pass Goby's Valley.
*00:00*
Oh yeah, there was that one place long time ago.
*00:00*
My case, this d did not happen to either of you this time around.
*00:00*
Now I know where to go.
*00:00*
of the game.
*00:00*
Sat and like pause the game and just thought for a second.
*00:00*
accurate.
*00:00*
Maybe that's not as much of a gap as like like I said, like one point five times the speed or something like that.
*00:00*
I have a hard time separating the middle pack of this game.
*00:00*
Um I'm I appreciate you taking a chapter select style approach to our discussion of these worlds.
*00:00*
Personally speaking, and I I this is the this is the one that I I said uh I know Max and I differ on, and he can maybe explain his reasoning here.
*00:00*
The changing of seasons, you get to see how the levels change.
*00:00*
Yeah, uh very very good.
*00:00*
Yeah, that's good pacing.
*00:00*
the bees or uh I think the house has one.
*00:00*
And it's not like two seasons have water.
*00:00*
There is player error for sure.
*00:00*
or the wood planks or landing on that weird bridge that should not be floating at all.
*00:00*
But then Mumbo takes a big fat vacation for the other three essentially.
*00:00*
in his house.
*00:00*
And my brain wasn't thinking that everything has reset now.
*00:00*
You can get up to the tree and other areas surrounding it very quickly.
*00:00*
Yes, it's very, very good looking.
*00:00*
the the way that you get the flying ability and then you can fly under the cove and there's a lighthouse at the tippy tippy top.
*00:00*
Snail turtle thing.
*00:00*
To open up the little sand castle with the the floor puzzle.
*00:00*
Little touches about this world uh make it a very good second world.
*00:00*
To see that honeycomb, empty honeycomb pop up, which is bad.
*00:00*
Um the I I can say the draw distance in the Xbox Series X at least, I can't speak for the 360, uh is almost like you just see the entire world.
*00:00*
Y you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume this fog is used.
*00:00*
Uh like like just there's there's so much charm in this level uh that it really like uh when you compare it to a level like Rusty Bucket Bay, it's like how did they really
*00:00*
They teach you about snacker early because they bait you with the Jinjo right at the level.
*00:00*
land and then adds pressure to the platforming.
*00:00*
The second race as rigged.
*00:00*
So it actually to to beat it, I actually had to mute the TV.
*00:00*
uh of the shoes and stuff is I was like I wake it I played it like six times in a row.
*00:00*
Focus, beat the bear.
*00:00*
is present.
*00:00*
But the walrus doesn't do anything.
*00:00*
the nostalgia of playing Tui at my friend's house as a kid.
*00:00*
didn't let you do too much.
*00:00*
its target audience which is clearly kids in the nineties.
*00:00*
Just about everything that you need to know about the game there from the start, especially coming off of Spiral Mountain.
*00:00*
But I think for what it is, it's a very sound, strong opening level.
*00:00*
then Mumbo's Mountain is what you're doing in the other eight eight or nine worlds is
*00:00*
So it's a great start.
*00:00*
is interesting.
*00:00*
different sections and uh there's an alligator over here and there's a maize up on this hill and there's a turtle over here and there's we're gonna throw in these crocodiles that you gotta spit eggs in their mouth.
*00:00*
things kind of thrown together.
*00:00*
steroids and then um Tui at the friend's house.
*00:00*
Bubble gloop fine.
*00:00*
Not not to the level that bubble gloop is, I don't think.
*00:00*
Because you need this special like sh flying dash attack from Freeze Easy Peak, but the game clearly, clearly is guiding you to Gobi's Valley before Freeze Easy Peak, I think.
*00:00*
a precedent early on with the worlds, how they function, how you collect everything, and you follow that for four worlds and you expect the rest to do the same and then this happens.
*00:00*
Kind of one theme I really probably should have just mentally taken this note and learned it much sooner and just kind of stuck to it.
*00:00*
Have to do anything with that.
*00:00*
I like it and I enjoy it.
*00:00*
Um it's really this is another one where it's really about the atmosphere, the theme.
*00:00*
I I'm sure there's something out there, but for the most part it's you're exploring a mansion.
*00:00*
I think that's a great moment 'cause she really doesn't talk too much in any of the levels or anything, but she makes one exception for when you jump in the toilet and then she chives in like, Whoa what are you doing?
*00:00*
Croc at Bubble Gloop Swamp, how long would it have taken you to realize that you have to be the pumpkin to go get into the side?
*00:00*
padlock on it as a part of the texture.
*00:00*
Well, we've already got number one with Treasure Trove Cove.
*00:00*
Or well, what do you like between Freeze Easy Peak and Click Clock Wood?
*00:00*
uh Mumbo's Mountain, Bubble Gloop Swamp, uh Rusty Bucket Bay, and Clinker's Cavern.
*00:00*
The game show part.
*00:00*
Maybe it's not it's it's not that long of a game, I guess.
*00:00*
I just don't like it.
*00:00*
It'll randomize what the three options are every time you play.
*00:00*
Depending on your game.
*00:00*
It is a for if you're playing for the first time, I think it's a cool thing to um to encounter where you're like
*00:00*
What what is this?
*00:00*
I honestly preferred those questions because I did write everything down that the the sister said and so you know when you write down your notes and you read your notes then you're it's easier to remember.
*00:00*
Yeah, essentially you do save 20 after you beat this, and then the credits kind of they roll, and then you have to kind of if you wanna complete it and kill Grunty, you have to go back like do you think that
*00:00*
Do you like how that's structured?
*00:00*
a hundred jiggies in their pocket to go do that right away?
*00:00*
You're not like me where I read a game as twenty minutes or twenty hours and I want to cry.
*00:00*
It's also good because there are games out there where you do get to the final boss, you fight the final boss, the credits roll, and then you can't turn the game off and you can't progress.
*00:00*
You have saved your sister.
*00:00*
I don't love the game.
*00:00*
Which which that that I told Max this that cutscene used to scare me so badly as a kid.
*00:00*
to go get enough jiggies to like do, you know, to finish the game, to do everything and see everything that the game has to offer.
*00:00*
A bait and switch isn't the right phrase, but you know, you save your sister, and then there's more to the game.
*00:00*
And it feels very rewarding, especially as a kid, when you do it by yourself and nobody helps you, uh, to to get that done.
*00:00*
worth it because then you get the the red honeycombs and that is such a great reward that is actually useful yes for the final boss
*00:00*
Which is what I told Max he needed to do because I knew he would probably need the help.
*00:00*
If you would have got the one on top of Mumbo's mountain, you wouldn't have had that problem.
*00:00*
The Jinjos, which you wouldn't really expect to come out of nowhere, and the Jinjo nader, which shows up.
*00:00*
you know, banjo and her just throwing hands or something like that.
*00:00*
here that and they need to be arrested.
*00:00*
The revenge?
*00:00*
like, you know, bring the ginjonator ginjonator to life.
*00:00*
And when I it was one of those satisfying boss moments of I know what I need to do now.
*00:00*
uh the red all the red honeycombs, which means I could have done it without the red honeycomb.
*00:00*
Uh on the Game Boy Advance.
*00:00*
And it's not perfect, we talked about a lot of the flaws, but like this is a great base.
*00:00*
charm and personality.
*00:00*
This fe feels like a game from a bygone era and it doesn't feel like we get games like this anymore.
*00:00*
Don't see things like this being made anymore.
*00:00*
You know, Microsoft just came in and bought Rare and the properties and things associated with it, and I think the level of care that they've let Rare show that
*00:00*
generations and stuff and the respect that they seem to have for their own legacy of games as especially the um
*00:00*
the part of the big three that's been in the video game industry the shortest amount of time, uh at least in a home console aspect.
*00:00*
to to chat with you both.
*00:00*
as well.
*00:00*
The main cast, which is Banjo Kazooie, and then Grunty, and then I guess to a lesser extent bottles and 2D.
*00:00*
I I I I just think the design of I mean, aside from like their characteristics and stuff like that, I think the design of them all is just fantastic.
*00:00*
type situation.
*00:00*
be in the starring role, like if this was just about banjo and there was no Kazooie present, uh be a much different game.
*00:00*
um personalities mesh.
*00:00*
This is something that happens more in the later games, more so in this one, but it's very aware that it's a game and it's not trying to take itself too seriously, which I love.
*00:00*
As you said, Grunt Grantilda's sort of rhyming scheme as she as she's talking with everything that she does is
*00:00*
And she usually comments on it in some sort of s a snide way, uh, which is which is great.
*00:00*
either have very small roles here in Kazooie or don't even exist.
*00:00*
the music.
*00:00*
twenty-five or so years, just came out with a new remix album of said songs from this game.
*00:00*
When you start at the beginning of Gruntilda's lair and you have to walk all the way like super deep and you have to do the talent drop to get there.
*00:00*
Just the music is how it is used.
*00:00*
just so and especially for its time.
*00:00*
Like the transition between those is so seamless, but it is a different style of track depending on what is going on.
*00:00*
Egyptian or desert like or whatever.
*00:00*
Just again, I I cannot think of other games that really have done that.
*00:00*
Again, makes sense.
*00:00*
Um yeah, I I just felt bad that we didn't call attention to some of those intricacies of the sound design and uh what this game does.
*00:00*
Um I'm I haven't played it, you could tell me.
*00:00*
Chapter Select is a max frequency production.
*00:00*
Follow the show at Chapter Select and check out previous seasons at chapterselect.
*00:00*
All right, gentlemen.
*00:00*
where the guy, his name's Kirko, he took the levels of Okarina of Time and remade them in Banjo Kazooie and it's this
*00:00*
Really cool crossover with a ton of personality, a ton of Easter eggs.
*00:00*
Right after having played the original.
*00:00*
So I'm actually good through the rest of this year now because of that.
*00:00*
Series series Season finale is up.
*00:00*
More I'm not concerned, but I'm just like, okay, so what do they do with this from here?
*00:00*
He was adamant enough about doing that.
*00:00*
Arguably their golden age on the N64 coming off of the Super Nintendo with Donkey Kong Country.
*00:00*
So it was a way to get all of those games on there.
*00:00*
Hi, thank you for inviting me.
*00:00*
Uh whenever I got it, it was either ninety-eight or ninety-nine.
*00:00*
Uh until the 360 port came out.
*00:00*
My brain was like, this is an N64 game.
*00:00*
The N64 version or the the Xbox Live Arcade version?
*00:00*
He he wanted to rank them.
*00:00*
Again, as banjo expert here amongst the group, I'm curious to hear like what your knee-jerk reaction would be to like some of the ones that you think are top tier, and then which ones you think are
*00:00*
Oh, I don't know what to say after this.
*00:00*
Uh it's got a lot of water in it once again, which is a through line with why I don't really care for it.
*00:00*
It would be beneficial if there were more points on the ship that branch out to the different sections so you have your little central area and move out.
*00:00*
Uh an absolute banger.
*00:00*
Something like that.
*00:00*
some twenty odd years or so.
*00:00*
the I guess stairs.
*00:00*
You had to figure out how to do it in summer.
*00:00*
breaking up, broken up.
*00:00*
Like I was like, how do I kill him?
*00:00*
And I and I think it's the perfect world to give players after you did your kind of so you did your spiral mountain, your tutorial, you did Mumbo's Mountain, which is your first world, but it's like it's pretty
*00:00*
Well, I g I guess that's my point.
*00:00*
Which I realized was an advantage of modern hardware.
*00:00*
Snacker is good.
*00:00*
Is awesome and it's tight and very vertical.
*00:00*
level visually and it's a lot of fun.
*00:00*
And so what you're saying is you hate Mumbo and you think he's bad at giving you abilities.
*00:00*
And I I'll also say I never would have known that you could leave a level as a transformation if Logan had not told me that.
*00:00*
Oh yeah.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Characterized in this game is I felt like I remembered he did.
*00:00*
He makes me laugh.
*00:00*
Um it's not my favorite.
*00:00*
worlds.
*00:00*
Anyway, I Donkey Kong 64, I will not stand for I kept hearing music too.
*00:00*
But I guess really Donkey Kong music is mumbo music.
*00:00*
It's it very much has to do with expectations and knowing what you can accomplish and what you can't accomplish.
*00:00*
So you know you have a hundred notes, but you also know that you can collect all of them.
*00:00*
There's some building I haven't been in yet or some place I haven't gone.
*00:00*
Trace a glass with a Ouija board.
*00:00*
Yeah, sure.
*00:00*
Pretty obtuse in some ways.
*00:00*
Why did you write all those notes?
*00:00*
bizarre that you just don't run up the stairs and go fight her right away and then you have to watch credits and then it spits you back out at the front of the lair again and then you gotta go all the way.
*00:00*
In Wind Waker.
*00:00*
aim I I could aim better basically.
*00:00*
There was a moment, I think on my third attempt I died, but I realized the pattern that I needed to take to
*00:00*
It's the first game in a series of five total games.
*00:00*
It feels hollow because it's trying to emulate what this is rather than just being a natural creation.
*00:00*
Yeah, I think that's why it stands out a lot and it's just a good game still to this day.
*00:00*
Still holds up.
*00:00*
In e even with the understanding of some hardware limitations and design choices that they would have made on the N64.
*00:00*
series and those games over the years is actually really nice and I think a another testament to Microsoft's incredible bat compatibility that they've been able to maintain through there.
*00:00*
We will see how that experience goes on the next episode of season three year of chapter select.
*00:00*
uh character designs ever like, oh hey, we'll create a bear that's the main character and then we'll uh shove his best friend in a backpack that he wears on his back and he flies around with uh like it's just so
*00:00*
out there in a lot of ways.
*00:00*
It's pretty like ditzy.
*00:00*
Ah, this is terrible.
*00:00*
I uh today I was thinking just about that and was like, man, how do you even come up with some of these rhymes?
*00:00*
What?
*00:00*
in the audience, but it it still works today.
*00:00*
The constant wittiness that's flowing from Kazooie really uh leads to a lot of the funnier moments uh when you run across characters in the game than of course how they all interact with Grunty as well.
*00:00*
Yeah, Kazooie, Kazooie is my favorite out of the whole bunch of people.
*00:00*
It's how unique it is.
*00:00*
uh little fake fake dialogue uh that they do in the game as well.
*00:00*
Um I I I think that's all super unique and incredibly well done.
*00:00*
20 plus years.
*00:00*
Like which ones?
*00:00*
the music on top of the super talent trot was just too much.
*00:00*
There are variations of each of the song or maybe not each of the songs, but a lot of the songs in the game depending on what you are doing in the game.
*00:00*
Um so like the the going underwater, uh running around Gruntilda's lair is another great example of this where Gruntilda's lair has a specific uh theme, but they constantly change it depending on where you're going.
*00:00*
As far as the water underwater tracks and stuff, it is they are separate instrument tracks that are playing the same song at the same time.
*00:00*
2022 that are doing anything like what this game was doing almost 25 years ago with how it was mixing the music and stuff like that.
*00:00*
So games that have followed in their footsteps, but it's games that are trying to emulate banjo to a certain degree.
*00:00*
So I think that actually truly wraps it up now.
*00:00*
Oh, that's hilarious.
*00:00*
Interesting.
*00:00*
Well, you're welcome, Logan, because I gave you the Apple TV Plus trial.
*00:00*
concern.
*00:00*
Is that the uh the correct way to s greet someone in the world spiral mountain?
*00:00*
solely locked in our plans for the coming episodes.
*00:00*
Like I said at the top, we we bounce back and forth between the games throughout the entire season.
*00:00*
Why why don't you tell the people a little bit about your experiences with Banjo, Kazooie, and like why
*00:00*
active part of my life.
*00:00*
An okay trade-off.
*00:00*
Separate my feelings on this game from the five-year-old version of me that is still somewhere
*00:00*
And uh I don't know how to I didn't know how to play video games all that great when I was a kid, so it took me months and months and months and months to, you know, get to
*00:00*
Well, you don't lose all your notes.
*00:00*
Banjo Kazooie.
*00:00*
outside of the water and the water is only a means to get there occasionally.
*00:00*
the propeller you gotta do the maze, hit the switches inside, and then swim to get the that.
*00:00*
Used all on the box because I thought that's how you hit the box.
*00:00*
Oh, I have found the bill the doorway to the level and the jigsaw puzzles all the way at the beginning.
*00:00*
Jiggy behind the rudder is because it's timed.
*00:00*
But it there's no way that is a second by second uh countdown on the timers in this game.
*00:00*
About most platforming levels, not just Banjo Kazooie, but Banjooe especially, is that there's usually a
*00:00*
It also feels like an open world.
*00:00*
two collectibles that I can think of where you gotta get in the water to do something.
*00:00*
So you want to talk about the good you want another good one or we wanna harp on one a little bit?
*00:00*
Another fantastic level.
*00:00*
But I think Mumbo's Mountain is really good.
*00:00*
But yeah, I mean yeah, I I don't know if you guys have anything else you really want to say.
*00:00*
Jiggy in this level that I can remember that I feel very satisfied with getting.
*00:00*
slanted hills tiles, which look like just quick running quicksand waterfalls.
*00:00*
Um maybe that's because that's where I ended up, but you definitely definitely take you right to Goby's Valley and go, can't get this one yet.
*00:00*
That was that was something I always reminded myself when I got to like 95 notes or something of it applied in Gobi's Valley.
*00:00*
If you can't figure out how to open Yeah, if you can't figure out how to do something, it probably involved like shooting out or pooping out eggs.
*00:00*
Um and they're very they make you spell banjo kazooe again, just in a different way, other than ground pounding the floor.
*00:00*
To go to go hit the switch.
*00:00*
how do you fit in this space?
*00:00*
You can get the shoes.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I know Michael click clock fights for second.
*00:00*
This is the official ranking and cannot be changed.
*00:00*
world and apply gameplay to it.
*00:00*
gives you an ending and then gives you an end game, which I think is pretty interesting for the time.
*00:00*
Did not like it.
*00:00*
why that worked at that time and I still think it works because it doesn't I mean you just you played it today.
*00:00*
reasoning for that was because they clearly want you to go kill Grunty afterwards, but do they just assume that not everybody has
*00:00*
If you are a kid or even if you're playing now, you you you play the game, you get to Grunty, and this is your final boss.
*00:00*
That there is one more thing, and it's the thing you really have wanted to do the entire game, which is fight Grunty and win.
*00:00*
One of the funniest parts of the fight, and I s I still really like that a lot.
*00:00*
It's just hard enough.
*00:00*
hop on Kazooie's legs and just go back and forth to dodge those and then when she throws the homing magic
*00:00*
sparkly ball, go invincible, and then there's a pause.
*00:00*
I am very happy that it has the legacy it has.
*00:00*
Even when comparing to Mario 64, it's just it shows how much
*00:00*
Like the they just personality.
*00:00*
What's the legacy for you, Logan?
*00:00*
special place in my heart and I feel like it's kind of like you were saying, Max, why this game is still relevant in a lot of ways to this day is because people
*00:00*
unique in so many ways and I I I can't think of anything that is really made like this nowadays that wouldn't necessarily be that wouldn't come from a triple A dev, I would say.
*00:00*
I'm excited to play Tui on my own for the very first time instead of at a neighbor's house whenever we would go over there.
*00:00*
is it's that nice reminder that she's around and you're inside her lair and yeah all that stuff.
*00:00*
Uh it's over the top, but I just love the idea that they they came up with this idea while developing the game and they just totally commit to it.
*00:00*
The thing I wanted to talk about, and the reason we're kind of tacking this on here at the end, is I I think we we talked a lot with Michael about, you know, oh this song's great in the game.
*00:00*
The only other ones I can think of are games that are followed in rare's footsteps.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
Oh my gosh.
*00:00*
Um I'm enjoying that.
*00:00*
ever really played.
*00:00*
It was cool to see it like that.
*00:00*
Oh no.
*00:00*
Do you want it to I guess figure out what the bottom is and work our way up?
*00:00*
And early on I was like, how where I'm running around trying to find the next thing, and I finally just jumped onto the the pipe and found, I was like, okay.
*00:00*
familiar with how it worked, I just knew that the level existed and that people liked it.
*00:00*
Well, so I think you alright.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I wanted to say one more thing about Treasure Trove Gulf.
*00:00*
And this also applies to, say, Mad Monster Mansion, where you turn into a pumpkin and you can walk places and
*00:00*
I think it's a little lower on my list personally.
*00:00*
Kobe's good.
*00:00*
I can't believe you would take the name of Donkey Kong 64 and besmirch it like this.
*00:00*
kind of great in that way.
*00:00*
With collectathons, it's important to have a good balance of unknown and like the expectation thing I was talking about.
*00:00*
You have to knock down as Banjo and Kazooie.
*00:00*
So we've left the worlds and we've we've touched on the gameplay and kind of the design of these worlds.
*00:00*
pad of Tootie's face, which gave me a lot of Donkey Kong sixty four vibes, but again, Banjo was first.
*00:00*
Must be true.
*00:00*
But I just love that the Jinjos get some come up ins at the very end of the game, just out of nowhere.
*00:00*
Banjo is underpowered and the witch is clearly strong and she's clearly had a stranglehold on him the whole game.
*00:00*
Banjo feels actually very alive right now, even though there hasn't been a new game since nuts and bolts.
*00:00*
Games are feeling very corporate nowadays, uh which is ironic be I mean because I mean Banjo is currently owned by one of the biggest corporations on the planet, so it's not that Banjo currently is not
*00:00*
uh I would say the product I wouldn't say the product of a corporate company because it's not like they're doing much with it or making anything new out of it.
*00:00*
I mean I mean the first thing we always say whenever we bring up banjo is gh-huh like it's so all the little sounds that they throw in this game are so
*00:00*
Thanks again, Michael.
*00:00*
It should.
*00:00*
Eleven to fifteen dollars and then within the no, within the last like year and a half it's gone up to forty
*00:00*
A complete boxed copy of the game is over $170.
*00:00*
Very relevant podcast season we're doing here.
*00:00*
And for me, uh this game wasn't actually a part of my childhood.
*00:00*
It's not a stranger, I guess more an acquaintance.
*00:00*
And I think to kind of guide us through all these worlds, Logan had the idea, and I think it's a pretty fun one.
*00:00*
It's like a water level that doesn't want to be a water level.
*00:00*
If they added another character, maybe give this world some more life, add a character that talks about their their cabin over there somewhere if you can find it.
*00:00*
And like you just know it for the future that something was there.
*00:00*
Yeah, you're supposed to it is really about exploration.
*00:00*
I I don't know.
*00:00*
I agree with the theme.
*00:00*
But my big beef is is i it is all padding.
*00:00*
on uh on a crate out in the distance on the water.
*00:00*
I don't have any hard feelings about the rest or I I have feelings about the rest of the levels here on our list, I guess I should say.
*00:00*
But I d I I have trouble separating them.
*00:00*
interesting at the very least.
*00:00*
I really can't think of any faults with it.
*00:00*
Crocodile thing?
*00:00*
Hate is a very strong word, but Donkey Kong 64?
*00:00*
to just you know, to find out where you need to go and what you need to do.
*00:00*
Because what makes a collectathon work is not so much like the amount of things that you collect.
*00:00*
It works very well, I think, in that way, but some of the design is just like, how uh how do you even do this?
*00:00*
It never would have occurred to me in Click Lock Wood to like put the eggs in the hole in the ground to make a flower grow, or do that in the Mahead Monster Mansion for all the pots.
*00:00*
I would still say that's the bottom though, right?
*00:00*
What are we feeling like goes above that?
*00:00*
So then it goes from one to nine.
*00:00*
And you walk in and it's come on down, let's do the game show.
*00:00*
Something and then this just just like it just grinds to a halt depending on if you get I mean maybe Michael feels differently because I'm gonna guess that he could beat the game show with his eyes closed at this point.
*00:00*
So if you think that Gruntilda went to Fat Hag High, maybe she went to whatever, some other school in somebody else's game.
*00:00*
I guess where that leaves us really is just kind of what is the legacy of this game um as a whole, you know, it's a
*00:00*
still feel very relevant today and sure Smash has helped I think the younger generation really identify, at least know who these two are, but for people our age
*00:00*
as it's such a part of their life that you'll even you you make your own types of levels and you just know this game way more than I ever could.
*00:00*
Notice you're not saying you're excited to play nuts and bolts there.
*00:00*
is both big and small.
*00:00*
it's not like a ton of traits or characteristics.
*00:00*
The other the other big I think core pillar, I almost you can't have Banjo Kazooie without Banjo or Kazooie, but you also can't have it without
*00:00*
It is that one extra thing where like even though they are not speaking English, it's like you know how the characters talk at the same time.
*00:00*
Not us.
*00:00*
Ramping it up like uh currently.
*00:00*
You know, f were for very young.
*00:00*
A number of different platforms, even it though the 360 version is the main one.
*00:00*
Or did they change it at some point?
*00:00*
I don't know if it's necessarily bad design, it's just a different way to play this game, and it may not have worked as well as they thought.
*00:00*
lizard creature thing reskinned as a bird.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
rhymes and at least in this first game really only cares about becoming thin and beautiful.
*00:00*
Yeah, because I think a lot of games it's very easy.
*00:00*
Yes, we can we can calm that down a little bit.
*00:00*
I I want to watch more.
*00:00*
Up there with Master Chief and um who's the person in Perfect Dark Uh Joanna something or it might just be Joanna Dark or something.
*00:00*
Yeah, so uh GoldenEye and then Donkey Kong sixty four.
*00:00*
Yeah, I just it just feels artificially like travel inflated.
*00:00*
The mus the music comes in too, right?
*00:00*
Uh familiar with banjo and the platforming, but I have footage of it.
*00:00*
And now Treasure Trove Cove, not only do you have something that looks great, sounds great, is interesting, and is great for exploration.
*00:00*
I I like this level on the most on the whole I do.
*00:00*
disjointed in a lot of ways, like where is a lot of levels feel like their click clock wood is kind of centered around the tree or whatever, or the snowman for Freeze Easy Peak.
*00:00*
Well to to prove Michael's point, it is possible to beat it without the shoes because I definitely did that twice.
*00:00*
So what do we think about the actual boss fight?
*00:00*
The way each character talks.
*00:00*
Very quick Googling and ultimately landing on a Reddit thread.
*00:00*
Wow, this is neat.
*00:00*
So there we go.
*00:00*
A game that really I should have played back in early 2000, the late nineties, early 2000, but come to it as like a
*00:00*
Yeah, I didn't know that.
*00:00*
Discovery?
*00:00*
But you still could have done a lot of cool stuff with that.
*00:00*
But probably lower on the list for me personally, I think.
*00:00*
nostalgia glasses are definitely on here, but I feel like Tui and Donkey Kong 64 felt more like open
*00:00*
A game from that time and on that system is being treated is treated so well as a port to a new console in a modern era, I think
*00:00*
They definitely were cranking them out.
*00:00*
So creative.
*00:00*
Wait, so how'd you get the one uh the grunty switch from Bumbo's mountain?
*00:00*
Well that's easy.
*00:00*
I don't agree, but that's fine.
*00:00*
I literally watched the pilot last night.
*00:00*
Year of Our Lord 2022.
*00:01*
Uh that's pretty cool.
*00:01*
And it's hard it's really hard to talk about what's difficult and what's not because I know this game so well now.
*00:01*
It is moving at like 1.
*00:01*
I'm like, well, I guess that's in the next season or whatever.
*00:01*
I guess.
*00:01*
Let's just go down the list for the last ones we have here.
*00:01*
I just have less I think Mumbo's Mountain goes right above Bubble Gloop.
*00:01*
There's the transfer machine that you've been seeing in the game over screens the entire game as well that I like that they cut away in the side room
*00:01*
I'm just starting to ramble now, so don't be take it away.
*00:01*
So thank you all very much for listening and until next time.
*00:01*
Like it really does have to be a combo of both of them, which sounds dumb to say because the game is literally called Banjo Kazooie, so but like if they had just come up with one character the or the other to somehow
*00:01*
You can't have Banjo and Kazoe without Grant Kirkhope.
*00:01*
It scared me a lot as a kid.
*00:01*
I jumped in the water and then the dun dun dun dun comes in and you're like, oh.
*00:01*
That leaves us with one.
*00:01*
I wouldn't have figured it out.
*00:01*
Having this under a imaginary time crunch because I and had the wrong time in my head when we were going to start by an hour.
*00:01*
So check that out.
*00:01*
So she's like, Oh, I want to be hot.
*00:01*
Like this is how you convince your bird friend?
*00:01*
Yeah, you were the one that played Max, you were the one that played the Ocarina of Time Link Missing Link.
*00:01*
But it's on my list, and then everyone has been talking about it.
*00:01*
And granted, this includes almost the entirety of Rare's back catalog.
*00:01*
And eventually somebody in my family got it for the Nintendo 64 for me, and my parents got me uh Banjo with it.
*00:01*
Lengthened, like travel, like m navigation is is is har is long and hard.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Natural or instinctive, at least to me today.
*00:01*
I think that level, yeah, I mean it sucks because it's a water level, but I think Clinker himself is like a pretty memorable character.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Well shorter season, longer episodes, I guess.
*00:01*
I would definitely there's no way I would have got all 900 notes this time around.
*00:01*
How are you supposed to know that?
*00:01*
But that wasn't there.
*00:01*
What was funny about my replay of it this time was that anything anytime I was having a hard enough time, I found that if I just
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
Cause you do have to do it four times if you don't fall.
*00:01*
I couldn't figure out how to get up there.
*00:01*
I remember Mumbo a lot in Tui.
*00:01*
It's very fairy tale, I suppose, in that way.
*00:01*
But I spent a ton of time as a kid playing Donkey Khan 64 because I owned that one.
*00:01*
You can get the shoes.
*00:01*
It was very it was probably more frustrating than normal, I think, adding an external crunch.
*00:01*
You mean the the question that they present to you?
*00:01*
You you restart back right before the final boss before your conclusion.
*00:01*
Still a very good game.
*00:01*
Which is funny when countering that against all of the things that she does in her life, which is wash her hair with rancid milk or eat uh tadpoles on toast or what
*00:01*
Yeah, and how and how Kazooie treats a lot of the characters that you come across in the game too is funny.
*00:01*
I don't have an EverDrive.
*00:01*
And that's among uh maybe a good five, six, seven mods that are worth checking out.
*00:01*
What kind of things are we talking?
*00:01*
It was Rusty Bucket Bay.
*00:01*
I just like that it I I like that it's small and intimate like a lot of the other levels in the game, but it's always changing, and you're trying to figure out what is changing from season to season.
*00:01*
Bye.
*00:01*
So there you go.
*00:01*
This is the same one.
*00:01*
Yeah, like the monster mansion, yes.
*00:01*
And it's one of the more expansive ones in the whole game, and I think it you'd really get a little bit more time to breathe in that world and kind of maybe not root around and figure things out, but uh
*00:01*
Treasure Trove Cove is the best level in the game.
*00:01*
Which then makes the game harder.
*00:01*
Alright.
*00:01*
Um the transformations, which I think fit here well, because you turn into a walrus to get one of the jiggies, um, which is fine.
*00:01*
Well there's one more if you take a step one step backwards it becomes even more obnoxious because there's actually a gate there
*00:01*
I I I think I think my problem is that is that this game has a very good flow otherwise where you are constantly moving forward and constantly doing
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
And even in terms of 3D platformers, I I love to use Banj Kazooie as a like, hey, this is how you do it right.
*00:01*
So it is one of those things that just gets progressively better.
*00:01*
Logan Logan had the idea.
*00:01*
But because I'm so attached to this series and this particular original first game, um I have ventured off into
*00:01*
Didn't you see them in the background?
*00:01*
Or makes why shoes were there when I was in the uh the game show part.
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
Okay, let's rank these.
*00:01*
I think everything with Brintilda is just something that this game doesn't need necessarily.
*00:01*
Is this really how it works?
*00:01*
That went way longer.
*00:01*
It should.
*00:01*
The honeycombs are really what I didn't find all of.
*00:01*
Like I've checked before.
*00:01*
So you get more stairs the further into the seasons you go.
*00:01*
The maze is okay, I guess.
*00:01*
Like hop on the little ledges and like the that goes on for a little bit doing it.
*00:01*
Oh, I'm definitely gonna download this.
*00:01*
So this was after the Microsoft acquisition.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
So I was just waiting to hear which side you were on.
*00:01*
Jigsaws.
*00:01*
My favorite would be Treasure Trove Cove.
*00:01*
Hermit crack.
*00:01*
He pushes you in, but also adds tension surrounding you.
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
Four areas.
*00:01*
Like when they introduce the eggs mechanic, they're just kind of like, oh yeah, by the way, you can also uh poop them out the back if you press this button instead.
*00:01*
I was like, squiggly line.
*00:01*
So the some kinda get a little old over time.
*00:01*
I did have one dev question for you.
*00:01*
What why man, why is it everything so expensive right now?
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
And they do this throughout the rest of Gruntilda's lair, and I think at least Michael and I will specifically touch on one a little later when we get to some other worlds.
*00:01*
So what would we dub next?
*00:01*
If you well, if you can kill the snowmen and not keep getting hit by them, sure.
*00:01*
Fall makes it very easy to get around.
*00:01*
I I I feel like everything feels very it's just something I've been feeling.
*00:01*
But Severance is on my short list.
*00:01*
It's uh they own all of Rare.
*00:01*
So, but for this particular episode, just focusing on the first game, Banjo Kazoe.
*00:01*
Uh the kids across the street, they had Banjo Tui.
*00:01*
Always first.
*00:01*
Like I think it was you told because I was trying to find the bigger.
*00:01*
Like they teach you how to do it the one way, but then they just kind of like add the caveat on it.
*00:01*
And I just I think it's so cool that you could be convinced that it's over, then you're like, oh well let me walk up here and
*00:01*
So there's something to it, but it is yes very random at the end.
*00:01*
So thank you.
*00:01*
And I th the pairing of them is is iconic.
*00:01*
It's a it's a part of that identity.
*00:01*
Nah definitely not us.
*00:01*
One of the things I didn't look up was what Rare Replay got, which isn't necessarily reflective of just Banjo.
*00:01*
And I told Max the funny thing is is when we I started playing it this time, I was like th in my head this game is very long because when I was a kid, I was, you know, four or five the first time I played this.
*00:01*
So I've been calling them the wrong thing my entire life, apparently.
*00:01*
Disc sure.
*00:01*
So they're at the beginning on in spring you have like I guess you could call the little bud of a leaf.
*00:01*
I think it sucks.
*00:01*
So there's probably a pool, I would imagine.
*00:01*
So if you really don't want to do that stuff, then you just have to be better at the other questions, I guess.
*00:01*
And I'm sure that also applies.
*00:01*
Kazooie walking.
*00:01*
I mean that's fine.
*00:02*
And I'll be honest with my experience of Tui, this was not the layout
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
I don't know where you're at on that, Max, or what either of you think about that personally.
*00:02*
I didn't think egg equals flour.
*00:02*
Um in the sound design uh beyond the soundtrack, I think the sound design in this game is just so memorable.
*00:02*
I think it's because of the structure that we took to talk about.
*00:02*
At least those are three-dimensional.
*00:02*
All those teraflops are running the clocks way too fast.
*00:02*
And it's the last level.
*00:02*
You thought they were gonna give banjo a wand in this level.
*00:02*
I at least know where that is.
*00:02*
Yeah, I I don't have exact problems with this level, but I also don't have any sort of great praise for it necessarily either.
*00:02*
He's pretty dumb.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
And to be fair, going into this, I knew about the existence of Click Clockwood and that it was a level that changed with the seasons.
*00:02*
Cause I swear to god those leaves really the none of the edge of the leaf counts.
*00:02*
Like when I think of banjo Kazooie jams, like this is top of the list for sure.
*00:02*
I wasn't a fan of that uh in particular.
*00:02*
Maybe they're all just the same thing.
*00:02*
Turn me into a frog.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
Because yeah, like you said, it's it's it's something they show you and they introduce, like, oh hey, you can do this.
*00:02*
What it what what did you what would you say?
*00:02*
Did you know going in that that would happen?
*00:02*
As a kid, I have no idea how hard they may or may not have thought this was.
*00:02*
Still a very fun game.
*00:02*
And the writing in the game, like overall, I think is fantastic.
*00:02*
Okay.
*00:02*
I'm glad about it.
*00:02*
That said, I don't get nostalgic about this game.
*00:02*
I guess there's also like achievements.
*00:02*
Okay, this is a great theme.
*00:02*
They're part of that ship texture.
*00:02*
Max, what is your I mean I alluded to it, you don't like this level as much, but I'm curious what you're using it is for.
*00:02*
I really do like the seasons and changing and seeing it um change overall.
*00:02*
Uh just make a new alternate path somewhere else.
*00:02*
I can't get close to him.
*00:02*
Um and I've never been a huge fan of the croc minigame either.
*00:02*
Oh my gosh.
*00:02*
It's pretty big.
*00:02*
And then wrapping the whole season up, we are going to be playing the Game Boy Advance game, also developed by Rare.
*00:02*
So the bear and the bird are still alive.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
That's also right when Nintendo and Microsoft put it on Nintendo Switch Online, the N sixty four version.
*00:02*
I'm uh before we get too much further, I am curious for you, Michael.
*00:02*
It's just that one that's kind of like eh.
*00:02*
Where have I been?
*00:02*
Which I didn't realize you could just hit.
*00:02*
Those three things and then it's really great at showing you look how you can explore.
*00:02*
Oh look, there's a a lighthouse.
*00:02*
And then uh we can talk about the final boss fight after this too, but like it I forgot that that happened, I guess, when I played it this time, and I thought it was like
*00:02*
You have done your task.
*00:02*
Uh it's really silly, but I love that that was always how she got taken out rather than
*00:02*
But but yeah, they do establish it, I think, once you grab the first one on uh Mumbo's Mountain.
*00:02*
And when we things like this do feel like they're trying to like ukulele is a good example.
*00:02*
Um and I and and I I like it a lot.
*00:02*
But I don't know Logan, if that's sounds interesting to you, that is very much a thing that exists.
*00:02*
Um but yeah, I never this this game is very much tied to my childhood, so it's hard for me to think of it in any other way.
*00:02*
And so when I got an Xbox One, it came with rare replay bundled in, but I
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
Okay, so we're gonna have to debate that one, its placement later.
*00:02*
Um it's a good base.
*00:02*
I don't hate this level by any means though.
*00:02*
And the answer is the answer is no.
*00:02*
It world and gameplay go hand in hand and to create the interesting game scenarios.
*00:02*
Inaugural's not the right word, but the kickoff to season three here.
*00:02*
And then I think I think I go in the sewer pipe, but it doesn't lead to the thing.
*00:02*
It still kind of like gave me butterflies and made me nervous this time around.
*00:02*
This one has more to do with just the theming and the like atmosphere and the feel of the level, more so than the actual what you do.
*00:02*
Hallway.
*00:02*
Um it d my brain d thought transformations were bound to the world they occurred in.
*00:02*
I'm not very good at it.
*00:02*
But yeah, it does make you want to read the dialogue in the game because it is so engaging and witty and just overall funny.
*00:02*
So I mean the version of the game's not different.
*00:02*
Because that's what I did.
*00:02*
I really get that now.
*00:02*
And no other transformation can do that.
*00:02*
Um and then my biggest beef is uh you can get every jigsaw except one.
*00:02*
They're stilts.
*00:02*
Thanks, man.
*00:02*
Good.
*00:02*
It'd be cool to test that out.
*00:02*
But yes, hi.
*00:02*
So but to move forward with our discussion here about Banjo and Kazooie, Logan and I have a guest with us.
*00:02*
I'm very excited to talk about Bancho.
*00:02*
This is something I I to make this clear up front, this is something I would like to do over the course of the whole season.
*00:02*
Uh because I feel like a lot of times you find the jigsaw puzzle before you actually find the entrance for a lot of the levels in this game.
*00:02*
It's got a very unique idea, and I think it executes it very well.
*00:02*
But I think Banjo is twenty, right?
*00:02*
That's go be that's what I'd say I would I would I'd put go be at go be at five, five monster mansion.
*00:02*
Uh yeah, I mean I think Michael really nailed it.
*00:02*
Let's say you go into Rusty Bucket Bay, you get 99 notes, and you die.
*00:02*
I thought they would be called jiggies, but apparently that's introduced in Tui.
*00:02*
Uh dude, it's uh it is literally so in this current playthrough I got uh nine or I got eight eight hundred and ninety-nine notes and I got ninety-nine jiggies, and that was the one jiggy that I just decided to not
*00:02*
Well Michael, you t sh show us the way.
*00:02*
And it's a starter level, obviously, and it's largely a tutorial level, but I think for what that level is supposed to be
*00:02*
They're there for your help.
*00:02*
I'm flipped.
*00:02*
Depending on how on how fast you beat it.
*00:02*
And also thank you both for having me on.
*00:02*
So for sure.
*00:02*
I mean I'll jump in here, Max, because I know you're gonna ask me about my history with the game.
*00:02*
It looks very pretty actually.
*00:02*
I was like, I don't feel like dealing with this one right now.
*00:02*
Click Clock Wood Woods is the other one too, but there's like a dis that one's kinda like unique, I feel like.
*00:02*
And the beaver, the solution is obvious from the first time you meet him, get rid of the rock.
*00:02*
Um but it's really about like the enemies.
*00:02*
So we're agreeing that Clanker's Cavern is the worst, which we didn't even talk about that level very much.
*00:02*
So we've got Treasure Trove Cove one.
*00:02*
And yet, Rare made a ton of games on the N64.
*00:02*
That's what I'm gonna say.
*00:02*
Plenty of games besides Banjo.
*00:02*
It's all good still.
*00:02*
Like it's very close to what the other ones are, I think.
*00:02*
And I actually love that.
*00:02*
I I would agree.
*00:02*
This is top two for me, and I really cannot understate that this is probably my favorite song in the game.
*00:02*
And that uh Smash remix of this song is really good too.
*00:02*
I'm kind of feeling the same way about Gobi's Valley, personally.
*00:02*
Mad Monster Mansion.
*00:02*
Also, I would like to live this lifestyle that is horribly disgusting.
*00:02*
All right.
*00:02*
For more on the season, go to chapterselect.
*00:02*
What what do you what do you mean by that?
*00:02*
My name is Max Roberts, and I am joined as always by Logan Moore.
*00:02*
I don't think we could get a full episode out of that.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
I think they've re-entered a really good period of time with Sea of Thieves.
*00:02*
I can't play this with an Xbox gamepad.
*00:02*
It should only be the N64 version that does not count though.
*00:02*
Discovery?
*00:02*
The B and click clock wood does.
*00:02*
It's small, quick.
*00:02*
No, no, no, not good.
*00:02*
Yeah, that seems like the implication.
*00:02*
Uh for Mumbo?
*00:02*
I would I'd say it's between like Gobies and Mad Monster Mansion
*00:02*
Maybe the wiki maybe the wiki lied to me.
*00:02*
And I think that might just be in in when you first collect a Jinjo, they'll say that in one line or something, and that's the only time you ever think about that.
*00:02*
I was familiar with these characters but never familiar with their origin.
*00:03*
And then it's got uh the most annoying jiggy in the whole game in my opinion, which is the one behind the propeller, which I hate that one.
*00:03*
But yes.
*00:03*
What what have I seen already?
*00:03*
I for sure I just looked at the pic at the pictures as a kid, for sure.
*00:03*
It's a great concept.
*00:03*
That was That was okay.
*00:03*
And the only thing that was staying consistent was the bird, I guess, the big eagle.
*00:03*
I think it'd be like a a five or a four.
*00:03*
It's pretty meta.
*00:03*
Yeah, it's all super unique.
*00:03*
Like it it the the over the over the overworld theme of Gruntilda's lair changes depending on where you are at in her lair.
*00:03*
I'm sure ukulele does it.
*00:03*
I'd I would say Clinker's Cavern.
*00:03*
I don't I assume Max kind of mentioned to me that he did not like that level, so I assume he's kind of Yeah no that's toward the bottom as well.
*00:03*
So bad.
*00:03*
When you go to that puzzle in the beginning and it's really good.
*00:03*
They just.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
And then it turns out, well, there's a legend, and I'm actually a part of an ancient prophecy, and there's more to the game.
*00:03*
I don't know.
*00:03*
That's crazy.
*00:03*
I never owned it, but Logan did.
*00:03*
I play it on Xbox because it's the most convenient.
*00:03*
I'm like, oh, well, this is going to be a very linear thing.
*00:03*
This is like a great way to say, hey, here's you made it to the you made it through Rusty Bucket Bay.
*00:03*
I was very frustrated with the tree and climbing up it and those dumb birds that poke their head out and hit you.
*00:03*
Uh whether you are immediately going and running into the hermit crab, or you're running onto the boat and you're seeing the crying hippo, or even if you're just going swimming, there's all of a sudden a shark that's
*00:03*
You mentioned the shark, snacker.
*00:03*
If you don't land on this box or on this bridge or you know the wind up to the the lighthouse and stuff, now you have to deal with getting out of the water.
*00:03*
Thanks.
*00:03*
It's not good.
*00:03*
People who have played this game, if you forget to do that and you you come on out with the pumpkin, it's like, well
*00:03*
Please add this to the by anyone else.
*00:03*
So I do it at some point in the week.
*00:03*
Um thankfully usually the gameplay is engaging enough where like my brain will process that out, but
*00:03*
Yeah, but Phil Spencer owns it now, and he's locked away the bear and the bird in a cage to where they can't escape.
*00:03*
So if Banjo Pilot, a physical version of that game, is anything close to being the same price for
*00:03*
Let's play banjo for uh season three or season three E, as we've been calling it.
*00:03*
I guess that would be when I finally like I when when I was a teenager, I was like, oh they ported this to Xbox Live Arcade.
*00:03*
Like I I know Banjo and Kazooie.
*00:03*
So it's something I think something is off and it is You're probably right.
*00:03*
Um, I know it is just recycling the same environment four times over, and maybe that's what Max's problem is with it.
*00:03*
Am I am I off base here?
*00:03*
So Yeah, by but compared to what the rest of the game does, it's it's it's kind of bland in what it does, but it's
*00:03*
Is banjo music, yeah.
*00:03*
Like for sure.
*00:03*
I'm click clock at two personally.
*00:03*
No.
*00:03*
I enjoyed my time with it a lot.
*00:03*
Well thank you for joining us, Michael.
*00:03*
Because this game is not very heavy on story or characters are writing.
*00:03*
Well then nuts and bolts is already a better game, obviously.
*00:03*
But that's just that's taking it one step further that a lot of games I can't ever think of have done.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
So it was that and I feel like there's a third achievement I didn't get, but
*00:03*
We can Do you want to hear mine first?
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
I know this for sure.
*00:03*
There are like a bunch of levels that I think are on pretty equal footing, and I'm curious what you guys think are near the top instead.
*00:03*
Apparently you just peck his face after he clips a few times.
*00:03*
I couldn't find the stilts.
*00:03*
And it's only like I think this time with my playthrough I had 100% in and got everything in the level within 20 minutes.
*00:03*
I had no idea this was in the game.
*00:03*
But then it's like wait oh no there's just a little bit more for you it's not over.
*00:03*
Ooh.
*00:03*
Like the most unique thing about Banjo Kazooie to me is that there are varying
*00:03*
Um so thank you all for listening uh to this little extended conversation about banjo and Kazooie, and we look forward to sharing our next episode with you about nuts and bolts.
*00:03*
I used to have the uh the pro guide or whatever for this when I was a kid.
*00:03*
5 times speed, right?
*00:03*
Yeah, the house has one.
*00:03*
Like what the last technically the last one I got was the flower because I needed to go back and get enough for the uh the red honeycombs.
*00:03*
You just look at to walk somewhere else.
*00:03*
I think this is the only time in the game it forces you to leave a level as the transformation and then go do something else to unlock another area of the game, which is
*00:03*
But I don't want to take notes in an eight to ten hour game of things that I'll need to remember at hour nine and a half or whatever.
*00:03*
That's what I read on the Banjo Kazooie wiki, at least.
*00:03*
He knows he knows this sometimes.
*00:03*
I think it's also well deserved.
*00:03*
The game directors, uh Greg Malays.
*00:03*
So it's it was no problem at all.
*00:03*
And I think that's very intentional.
*00:03*
And that that that one is the most apparent to me because I just I just hate that jiggy.
*00:03*
Uh or even uh the chest that you find at the end that's like, oh hey, you finally found me, but please don't break me, or whatever.
*00:03*
Yeah, I feel like they kind of put him more into a central role in that game, I feel like in
*00:03*
It's I think it's very tight in its focus if like you said, Logan, if Spiral Mountain is how you move.
*00:03*
The thing I wanted to talk more about though in regards to the soundtrack and the sound is the g of the game overall is like
*00:03*
I wanna say it was Christmas ninety-eight, is what I'm thinking
*00:03*
I actually like those leave piles because you can get up and
*00:03*
That is a fact.
*00:03*
It just lets you get s walk somewhere else.
*00:03*
Um I I think the most obtuse jiggy is probably the one where you have to go climb up the tree and maybe get the orange and throw it to the little monkey.
*00:03*
I guess if that I feel like that makes the most sense at this point in time.
*00:03*
So it and inherently didn't convey to me that Kazooie's beat could just destroy the entire gate.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
I I don't know.
*00:03*
Now those are different.
*00:03*
This episode was research, produced, and edited by me, Max Roberts.
*00:03*
Like that was when I was kind of like, okay, I I'm kind of seeing how this can develop from here.
*00:03*
Um then it eventually came to I mean we don't have this down, but came to rare replay eventually, which was still the three sixty versions.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
So we're already coming at this from very different angles.
*00:03*
Mad monster mansion.
*00:03*
Um you chase treasure around.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Um I think my thing with this level, the more I think about it, is there's no one
*00:03*
Oh, it is a Ouija board.
*00:03*
This is important.
*00:03*
So that part was always frustrating.
*00:03*
And I had a moment.
*00:03*
Yeah, and they don't get there's a lot of different side characters in the game.
*00:03*
Was there anything else you wanted to touch on?
*00:03*
We're doing banjo.
*00:03*
Oh, okay.
*00:03*
That's where I played it this time around.
*00:03*
Um so I've I've obviously played the original.
*00:03*
So we had it during that time when Ganch was released, so we played some some multiplayer on Tui and messed around with it.
*00:03*
And for the N64 version on Switch, I played it for an hour, got through two worlds and said, yep.
*00:03*
Uh which is also not super fun.
*00:03*
I would quickly remember.
*00:03*
And the whole point of the level is to climb the tree.
*00:03*
Uh yeah, I was not a fan of Oh, and those dumb snowmen show their heads up in winter.
*00:03*
At least in my ex uh my understanding it's the only way to kill them.
*00:03*
I think the one thing I would chuck in about Mumbo 2 personally is that I feel like he doesn't get as
*00:03*
Bye.
*00:03*
I had a moment you were you were, you know, talking about why you like it so much.
*00:03*
Logan, you uh Michael, I'm sure you I don't know if you played it when you were a kid.
*00:03*
It's very childish.
*00:03*
It's supposed to be up like now ish.
*00:03*
Uh yeah, okay.
*00:03*
Yes.
*00:03*
This was uh for me, this was literally the first game I got with my Nintendo 64.
*00:03*
Although that's not necessarily true because there's a switch and then it shows you exactly where it is.
*00:03*
You make a good point.
*00:03*
I think it's so I love the structure of it.
*00:03*
Obviously you would you're in a platform where you want to go to the top of the hill.
*00:03*
Uh and then by comparison to Rusty Bucket Bay, I just think this level is chock full of charm with the characters.
*00:03*
.
*00:03*
Um I like a lot of things in this level, but it also feels very
*00:03*
And it would never occur to me that it's later because this game has not taught me.
*00:03*
Bubble gloop, I think.
*00:03*
Was it because this is what we're down to?
*00:03*
It was instead banjo summoning the power of the Jinjos to take her down.
*00:03*
Yeah, he's kind of like woof
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Logan, is this gonna be longer than God of War 2018?
*00:03*
One more question.
*00:03*
I love that idea that like, oh dang, there's this really hard one to complete and
*00:03*
I thought you had to like destroy the shell some way.
*00:03*
And they can alleviate they alleviate that a little bit with the flying, but also there's this like big wonderful scarf to to walk and cross.
*00:03*
I've Mumbo Mountain.
*00:03*
It just kind of gives that vibe a little bit.
*00:03*
Okay, so that's obnoxious.
*00:03*
I think once the route that I ended up on maybe had four.
*00:03*
I'm just a curiosity.
*00:03*
No, my PlayStation gave me six months more on top of that.
*00:03*
Sure.
*00:04*
D water levels from the nineties.
*00:04*
Like you can see inside past the window.
*00:04*
He pushes you out of the way.
*00:04*
they did it.
*00:04*
Yeah, but I didn't I didn't have it on lock.
*00:04*
Like I just feel like the theme of it all kind of comes together and it makes it clear.
*00:04*
What am I missing?
*00:04*
She also has a dozen and uh ship.
*00:04*
Cause I think you can get the jigsaw puzzle behind bubble gloop another way.
*00:04*
But to the Ginjo's credit, I'm pretty sure I think the story behind them is that Grunty took them and placed them.
*00:04*
Um just that uh if you did have any interest in the Banch Kazooie level modeling nonsense shenanigans, I do that
*00:04*
And then I I think it I think it works very well with uh tutorials as well.
*00:04*
Like I cannot think of another game out there that where like if you dive underwater it's gonna make the music in the background sound submerged like you are going underwater.
*00:04*
And that's what I think.
*00:04*
So I guess you patch a banjo ROM?
*00:04*
We've only got this episode squared away right now, so maybe we can.
*00:04*
Which I and that sucks because I I do like to look at old games and get that feeling of like, oh yeah.
*00:04*
I I've I'll be uh Switzerland.
*00:04*
It's like a it's an well-earned um thing to remember, I guess.
*00:04*
So I go see the beaver and the rocks there.
*00:04*
I hate that so much because it's it's actually an interchangeable thing.
*00:04*
Yeah, for sure.
*00:04*
So it's just the sliders basically change.
*00:04*
But at least it makes sense.
*00:04*
It is good.
*00:04*
So it is a little bit I think it just gets are you talking about Everwild?
*00:04*
I would I'll I'll chime in and say I don't like Rusty Bucket Bay, personally.
*00:04*
You really they really do want you to explore every nook and cranny
*00:04*
It's and again the music is so good.
*00:04*
There's just a haze or something in the distance, or there's just poppin' as you approach this.
*00:04*
So that alright, so that's that's jigsaw ninety-nine that I didn't get.
*00:04*
So like my brain definitely is m wired to like those more.
*00:04*
It goes Treasure Trove Cove, Click Clock Wood, Freeze Easy Peak, Mad Monster Mansion, Gobi's Valley.
*00:04*
Uh no, the Gruntilda facts specifically.
*00:04*
Which at least my strategy at that point when she is just throwing fireballs like crazy was
*00:04*
Well I I'm morbidly curious about nuts and bolts, so
*00:04*
The composer for these games is created music that has been around for, you know
*00:04*
I will say though that some of these sound effects can get annoying.
*00:04*
So it came out on the Nintendo 64 on June 29th of 1998.
*00:04*
So I'm curious where you guys are at.
*00:04*
Um but it fits.
*00:04*
I I think I I really like this level in a general sense.
*00:04*
This is the only world where that happens and that sucks.
*00:04*
You can and you should.
*00:04*
The spooky level.
*00:04*
Voice your opinion.
*00:04*
What like that?
*00:04*
I'm looking at like an article right now.
*00:04*
And um so for this first episode of the season
*00:04*
This is 100% just a pure nostalgia trip for me.
*00:04*
I mean, long story short, I think this game's better than Mario 64 and I'm very
*00:04*
I could just I want to play this level just to hear the soundtrack.
*00:04*
All right.
*00:04*
Like I could see, oh, there's a thing, there's an item spinning over there that I want.
*00:04*
Uh but other than that, I really think that that level teaches you
*00:04*
Or maybe it doesn't suck, but like as somebody who was totally not on a time crunch, I just
*00:04*
And the game is finished.
*00:04*
I mean, it's gotta be very difficult to come up with inventive lines for Gruntilda.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
And then they ported those over to Xbox Live Arcade, both Kazooie and Tui, right before Nuts and Bolts came out, actually.
*00:04*
Sure, why not?
*00:04*
And now I really understand a lot of comparisons
*00:04*
It's the only reason it's different.
*00:04*
What what are some avenues that I can now access that maybe I couldn't have accessed before?
*00:04*
So in click lock wood, it's just the base of the tree.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
It is on my list, Michael.
*00:04*
I even have seen you been tweeting about it.
*00:04*
Uh I just didn't know how the like the season was going to develop.
*00:04*
Yeah, that definitely didn't happen in my version of it playing on Xbox this time
*00:04*
Yes.
*00:04*
Uh click lock what is in my top three.
*00:04*
All it is is go up the tree, kill the same birds, and get to the top to get a jiggy, and usually there's one more jiggy on the way.
*00:04*
So it's not like I'm landing and surviving, I'm dying and starting all over again.
*00:04*
Let's do another good one for now.
*00:04*
And he's like, just turn into the gator.
*00:04*
Music in this one too if I'm gonna hate on uh Grant Kirk Hope at any point.
*00:04*
I go I gotta go find that out now.
*00:04*
It's almost like the click-clock wood where you see the puzzle early and you get the level at the end, the whole game Grunty has been teasing you.
*00:04*
I had to go back.
*00:04*
So yeah, so the golden age of rare, arguably SNES N64.
*00:04*
I mean honestly Banjo's most recent appearance is Super Smash Bros.
*00:04*
Those are hidden pretty well.
*00:04*
But after I guess Mumbo's Mountain and Treasure Trove Cove
*00:04*
I think I only fell from that once.
*00:04*
Fall does that a little bit with uh the addition of the leaves piles, but that's
*00:04*
I I think the the transformations could yeah, they could have used more.
*00:04*
This changes everything.
*00:04*
That game's very that game's very disjointed.
*00:04*
Um I I like it.
*00:04*
This is a great base for that.
*00:04*
I guess.
*00:04*
This game makes me happy.
*00:04*
It was always the N64 game that kind of one of many, that got away, that I never
*00:04*
Um because they're they both take place in a
*00:04*
Um so then I couldn't afford the tolls.
*00:04*
It's like, oh, this item now unlocks this thing or whatever.
*00:04*
This is the correct answer.
*00:04*
Why do you think that?
*00:04*
Way harder.
*00:04*
The It's not just to freeze easy peak.
*00:04*
Yeah, absolutely.
*00:04*
Adios.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
I mean I was gonna ask you that.
*00:04*
Now you understand the holy war I've been waging over over the years.
*00:04*
Each transformation has like two things to do each.
*00:04*
Um I do wanna if it's okay, I do want to bring up I it's n it's one I I don't think we will talk about very much.
*00:04*
And it introduces you pretty much to every type of mechanic except the pads, like Michael mentioned, which are introduced in the second level, Treasure Trove Cove.
*00:04*
But here we are.
*00:04*
But anyway, yeah, it's it's annoying in that regard.
*00:04*
Actually by the the last run, I think the first three phases, the patterns are fairly straightforward.
*00:04*
I'm gonna start crying.
*00:04*
You really it can't be beat.
*00:04*
It is it's on my
*00:04*
I I would say it it might I think for some people they might say it gets a little bit slower towards the middle, which
*00:04*
I mean we played it, I mean we talk about this um but I I played on Series X.
*00:04*
People love 'em.
*00:04*
Yeah, I think that's a good idea.
*00:04*
Uh that's I think it might just be a case of that.
*00:04*
Uh yeah, like I I feel like those are kind of like
*00:04*
I was you the the Ad 64 would not do that.
*00:04*
So all all that changes is where the jiggy is on the way up and
*00:04*
I like fall.
*00:04*
I they may have changed this in the Xbox version, but the draw distance on the N64 was very bad.
*00:04*
Um maybe I'm totally wrong on that front.
*00:04*
Oof, I really loved it as a kid, but not anymore.
*00:04*
I was more satisfied getting the grunty switch in the maze, like figuring out how to get over there.
*00:04*
I'd rather it be five hours, you know?
*00:04*
Those are more in the middle.
*00:04*
Now, granted, I did go back and get the red honeycombs, because again, I was trying to get it done before we recorded the show tonight.
*00:04*
Yeah, I think ukulele does do it.
*00:04*
And I think the end of the first episode kind of teases like when
*00:04*
Um well Grintilda's lair is like the hub, so you know, does that count?
*00:04*
I'm just gonna keep going.
*00:04*
So actually I think that does no that does happen earlier too.
*00:04*
So snacker is just there as this this threat that
*00:04*
Is it just because my brain expected to e and you're not too wrong.
*00:04*
It's the only time in this entire game that it does that, and that sucks.
*00:04*
Uh yeah.
*00:04*
Um you know, so I was surprised to see that in this retroactive way.
*00:04*
It's all s super iconic and synonymous with Banjo Kazooie.
*00:04*
And it's something that I don't remember a lot of other games from that era doing.
*00:04*
And to play a bunch of the other mods.
*00:04*
So this episode one is Banjo Kazooie, the first game in this series, but our second episode is going to be Banjo Kazooie nuts and bolts.
*00:04*
But it like I said, N64, Nintendo 64, and
*00:04*
I played Grunty's Revenge on my Game Boy as a kid.
*00:04*
But the time in this game is not
*00:04*
The only thing I don't like is the the one honeycomb
*00:04*
They really give the the level life and personality.
*00:04*
I I'd probably put Mumbles Mountain.
*00:04*
Please add this to the official banjo because it'll be Wikipedia entry somebody.
*00:04*
Um I love it.
*00:04*
Uh I think my favorite part about this is just that uh I I don't think the fight's bad by any means
*00:04*
Very relevant.
*00:04*
Things like modern Donkey Kong Country games, which is not even rare.
*00:04*
I wholeheartedly agree.
*00:05*
And I get to the fall and I'm exploring the fall area and I died.
*00:05*
So I think there's a very satisfying learning curve.
*00:05*
It's uh it's uh very good.
*00:05*
We've done uh I don't know if we did this intentionally when we set these this up, but we've now done
*00:05*
And like you were saying, I don't think there's any that I think are bad.
*00:05*
So it was claim I mean just kind of the flow here.
*00:05*
And maybe this is because I am not
*00:05*
It's not good.
*00:05*
And that would incentivize me to explore and push and try to find it.
*00:05*
Where?
*00:05*
Two of the uh you know, one of those is a racing game.
*00:05*
When you think of the N64, you think of Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, you think of Panji Kazooie and I think that's appropriate that that that's how people
*00:05*
And you can find uh links to Michael's Twitch and Twitter and stuff in the show notes and links to anything that we talked about.
*00:05*
And, you know, I was surprised that some of the characters I recall being pretty important in Tui are
*00:05*
Which again isn't a bad thing because it makes you try to, you know
*00:05*
Um and I I think part of that is also I was gonna t
*00:05*
Because we'll find out when I play Tui here in a few weeks, but I remember the transformations in Tui being way more
*00:05*
If Spiral Mountain's what's teaching you the basic moves and stuff like that, this level is teach teaches you know.
*00:05*
Uh if I cause you don't get the shoes until the you don't get the shoes until the where do you get them again?
*00:05*
But one of the things I kept thinking about in this game in general was I
*00:05*
I guess I didn't even that didn't even occur to me.
*00:05*
Maybe it did.
*00:05*
Exactly.
*00:05*
But it is it is a challenge.
*00:05*
It's clever.
*00:05*
Yeah, I definitely felt bad as we were getting like halfway in.
*00:05*
And you know, now on Series X, it's like 4K HDR, well beyond the scope of the original.
*00:05*
And maybe there's something else that slipped through the cracks I'm not aware of, but
*00:05*
Well, thank you for agreeing to uh play this game with us.
*00:05*
This is weird.
*00:05*
So that possibly has set some form of expectation over the past
*00:05*
Like they I think they use the space really well and it truly feels like an open exploratory space.
*00:05*
Yes.
*00:05*
It is.
*00:05*
I am always happy to talk about Banjo Kazooie, and it's always a pleasure to uh
*00:05*
Uh like it's it's sealed into my head.
*00:05*
I mean that's good value at least to the audience because it it'll be interesting and shorter.
*00:05*
So I'm very excited for that.
*00:05*
The rare I was gonna say the rare replay version does not do that then.
*00:05*
As of recording.
*00:05*
But I just feel like what you turned into was more interesting and dynamic and I had fun with it.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Probably.
*00:05*
I mean I'm I'm fine consenting and giving click clock two.
*00:05*
It's kind of a nice surprise.
*00:05*
I went back to click clock wood and planted eggs to grow a flower.
*00:05*
net.
*00:05*
I just wanted to talk a little bit about Banjok Zui and Grunty because I felt like we didn't ever really
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
And that's about our intro, Logan
*00:05*
How many platforms have you played this on?
*00:05*
Sure.
*00:05*
I don't wanna have a definitive list here and uh No No, I don't think we need it we don't need to make it definitive and speak for
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
I guess that's true.
*00:05*
Yeah, but it it feels like it's faster than it should be.
*00:05*
But just being in that level is such a joy.
*00:05*
Sure are fun.
*00:05*
I like the theme, and I actually like the segmentation here.
*00:05*
I think that's I wish Clanker appeared in Rusty Bucket Bay.
*00:05*
I don't know why.
*00:05*
It's one or two things for each character that is really amplified and that genera that creates the charm surrounding them.
*00:05*
So then Michael, as kind of the expert within our little group here, which version is better?
*00:05*
It was no it's almost twenty it's all it's twenty four now.
*00:05*
You do not want to be in that water.
*00:05*
Um, and I don't like the the snowmen how
*00:05*
It's got a bunch of different little sections sections, and it reminds me of a game that I now
*00:05*
All suspense removed.
*00:05*
That would be obnoxious if that's if that's the way it is, then it's not great.
*00:05*
Like even playing this again in the within the past week, like
*00:05*
Logan and I are here.
*00:05*
I I love that.
*00:05*
Almost everything is
*00:05*
Like I am I'm not out of my mind, right?
*00:05*
Three, really, because winter you can just fly everywhere, so it's like
*00:05*
Fall is the my favorite of the four.
*00:05*
Yeah, I think I think for me
*00:05*
I think that's such an appropriate thing to add to this level because being in the water is really not that important.
*00:05*
There are specific gameplay elements in it the second race.
*00:05*
So I was a little disappointed that Mumbo's abilities really
*00:05*
So that would be nine if we're if we're ordering them here.
*00:05*
Most people don't care to talk to Brentilda.
*00:05*
Um just had ninety-seven jigsaws by the end of the game.
*00:05*
It was overload noise level.
*00:05*
It's just a Game Boy.
*00:05*
Um we have a guest with us to talk about the rest of the game.
*00:05*
I have an amiibo right over there.
*00:05*
There's nothing nostalgic about it anymore.
*00:05*
Because you said the clock click clockwood would only be fighting for a second or third for you.
*00:05*
Um what else do you turn into?
*00:05*
In that game especially 'cause there's like a whole rivalry he has and Yeah.
*00:05*
It's the logical choice after a Spiral Mountain and then getting into Gruntilda's lair.
*00:05*
Who knows?
*00:05*
And yes, fighting Grantilda here is the actual conclusion of the game, but at least here you
*00:05*
That's because I do like the idea that
*00:05*
Look at this, look at the level design here, look at the collectathon criteria here, and build from there.
*00:05*
Yeah, I agree with that.
*00:05*
I don't know when yet, but that's on my Twitch at the same username
*00:05*
com
*00:05*
I would say the Xbox Live Arcade version is better if you really want the challenge and like
*00:05*
That does add a good amount of challenge.
*00:05*
Oh I'm curious like
*00:05*
And stuff like that, that's not I would say that is bad design.
*00:05*
Part uh make sense of the the level.
*00:05*
It's very much just a high m high bye uh situation with him.
*00:05*
It is possible.
*00:05*
That's what I'm thinking.
*00:05*
When you leave the level, like in that little Yeah, when you leave the level and you go off into the little s uh the offshoot path or whatever
*00:05*
Free freeze easy would be my two.
*00:05*
It's not the very end of the game and oh now there's a little bit more.
*00:05*
com forward slash season three.
*00:05*
Oh no, we are still talking about all this.
*00:05*
Which side of the war.
*00:05*
But yeah, what I guess I guess to start off, which ones would what would you think is the worst?
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
I'm like, well, where's the permanence in this?
*00:05*
Okay.
*00:05*
I you know, it's fun.
*00:05*
Now I just have to execute it.
*00:05*
You can find Logan on Twitter at Moreman12 and his writing over at comicbook.
*00:05*
I mean obviously I know these
*00:05*
Do you play the levels that you make on just your computer, or do you like have an EverDrive for your N64 to play it on real hardware?
*00:05*
People are nuts.
*00:05*
I like this game.
*00:05*
Did you get all of them, Max?
*00:05*
Um like, you know, to free the dolphin you have to swim, but you just go up through where the anchor drops, fix the problem inside and come out.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
I don't know how those bridges are supported to where the structure is for that at all.
*00:05*
He just clips into you.
*00:05*
Yeah, but I think y you make a great point.
*00:05*
I just you can do it.
*00:05*
That's cool.
*00:05*
I think that makes sense.
*00:05*
And then I would do one of the the holes on the side of the ginger with eggs and then repeat and just do that four times.
*00:05*
It's a lot of personality, but it's not
*00:05*
I, you know
*00:06*
Give me my my three-prond controller, you know, let me play with that.
*00:06*
With this one, it's a flat texture.
*00:06*
Fine.
*00:06*
Wow that that must I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you then, especially when you got to the end with the game show, which we'll talk about as well.
*00:06*
Maybe the one with the camel.
*00:06*
Yeah, no, I would have looked it up.
*00:06*
Seven based off our vibe, yeah.
*00:06*
But That's the thing about Wikis Logan.
*00:06*
It's like they don't make games with this type of
*00:06*
Because I think we're all leaving.
*00:06*
Uh I I can see how some of it can be considered padding.
*00:06*
You would never find it unless you were just in that area.
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
I it also helps push you toward
*00:06*
Uh-huh.
*00:06*
Ah This happened.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
And then I think like Michael, what you were saying, there's
*00:06*
And I think that's why this game still has a very
*00:06*
Part of it was the episode was going much on much longer than we had thought, and so now we're making it even longer.
*00:06*
But he has a good heart of wanting to help people.
*00:06*
Not saying you want a Zelda game to be like But like
*00:06*
This is so cool.
*00:06*
And where they are hidden is in all of the worlds, because there's a lot of different levels and a lot of different worlds within
*00:06*
And wherever you want to go, it either costs a bunch of eggs, which I may or may not have
*00:06*
Because the music slaps.
*00:06*
What?
*00:06*
Um kind of disjointed again as well.
*00:06*
They're it's very intimate.
*00:06*
I love that it's this way actually.
*00:06*
Um I'm
*00:06*
They knew what the target was.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
At least in the context of the first game.
*00:06*
Doing something completely different
*00:06*
If we're if we're agreeing that Clinker's Cavern and Rusty Bucket are the bottom, we'll figure out the others.
*00:06*
But you can get inside the nose of a bigger gator and also walk in the water.
*00:06*
And it's bad if they just cut you off five notes short or something.
*00:06*
You have the like uh toilet.
*00:06*
So it's just as soon as you're in water, it flips, but the songs were playing at the same time, so they're in the same location.
*00:06*
I will be watching that and I am very excited.
*00:06*
But it makes it very difficult to get around
*00:06*
Instead of having that wooden path that keeps getting
*00:06*
Okay.
*00:06*
Wait, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
*00:06*
Thank you so much for listening.
*00:06*
I don't think that's an argument, really.
*00:06*
That sounds like a modern a modern enhancement.
*00:06*
It will just walk me to the next puzzle and I'll go on.
*00:06*
Because where did I go?
*00:06*
I was like, I'm trying to dig through the
*00:06*
It just I don't know if it was like a N64 limitation thing.
*00:06*
It's been a long time since I've played that game.
*00:06*
But then the
*00:06*
The beginning of the game I was like, am I allowed to walk on these?
*00:06*
Maybe I'm wrong about that, but that's what I read on the interwebs.
*00:06*
Tootie going rar used to like horrify me when I was four years old.
*00:06*
It seems so so good.
*00:06*
And I think the kind of support the fact that
*00:06*
So to specifically kind of call some of that stuff out.
*00:06*
The the bickering between her and bottles is also just yes a fun
*00:06*
Um especially games of this style.
*00:06*
How it makes sense, yeah.
*00:06*
And then it came out for the 360 in November 26th.
*00:06*
Like I I'm somebody who I think gets tired of games the more I spend time around them.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
Rusty Bucket Bay is so
*00:06*
I guess they were just trying to do something different, uh whether you like it or not, you know.
*00:06*
You remember it.
*00:06*
I'm like, you can leave the level?
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
Like complete mods that are done and not being worked on.
*00:06*
I very much like the pitch from the jump, but I was like, what kind of legs is this gonna have?
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
Yeah, and I'm I'm totally down for that.
*00:06*
It's just it might also just be, hey, look, we're making this
*00:06*
Was it in another area?
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
Um it's not bad, but you also have to make sure that you have the
*00:06*
Like, oh, you can also do this, by the way.
*00:06*
I do think that level has charm with Clanker himself.
*00:06*
But you guys like Mumbles Mountain more, so that's fine.
*00:06*
Personally.
*00:06*
Congratulations.
*00:06*
I think it I think this actually dawned on me the other day, um, a little bit more.
*00:06*
Like this music still follows him to this day and is very signature.
*00:06*
It was um I've been an Apple TV Plus guy from the get-go, just because I guess I fall at the feet of Tim Apple.
*00:06*
And then the Xbox 360 ports in 2008.
*00:06*
So I was aware of Banjo and played a lot of Tui at their house.
*00:06*
It's certainly the prettiest.
*00:06*
But all in all, there are, let's see, I gotta count it out.
*00:06*
Like it does I don't know, like
*00:06*
But there are some good things about this level.
*00:06*
So I can't confirm if you're right, but you saying this is
*00:06*
I I think just going back to talking about the evolution of the stage, I think that's what makes it less padding and more like uh
*00:06*
So then this is our number one because Treasure Trove Cove is my second favorite.
*00:06*
And I think this is another this is very common that people really like this one, but freeze easy peek.
*00:06*
That was what was actually a little disappointing to me.
*00:06*
Like if you go into Mumbo's hut, I'm like this is Donkey Kong music.
*00:06*
I'm not sure
*00:06*
You're going into these these bedrooms, into this old church.
*00:06*
So it'll say like, oh, did you know Gruntilda went to her favorite magazine is this?
*00:06*
It was just different than looking it up.
*00:06*
Um Michael, what do you think about the legacy of this game?
*00:06*
Um
*00:06*
The one thing I wanted to call attention to with the soundtrack specifically outside of
*00:06*
I think only missing probably was anything licensed.
*00:06*
And mine is
*00:06*
I'll be neutral in this war.
*00:06*
Cause usually in other li or some of the other windows in this game I think are pretty well like
*00:06*
Look at all the different things you can do.
*00:06*
It's long
*00:06*
And I think people would still like it, but it real it really is about how they bounce off of one another and how they're
*00:06*
I like that it's very
*00:06*
Um and if not the same in Nuts and Bolts and Grunty's Revenge, I don't really recall too much because it's a bit more
*00:06*
I should have mentioned that, that there are a lot of really cool mods out there already.
*00:06*
It's silly.
*00:06*
Um So yeah, I there's no telling how many hours I poured into this as a kid, but never actually beat it.
*00:06*
I think it's lacking a lot of personality and unique characters that some of the other levels have, which is another one of my issues with it
*00:06*
It's it's actually super smart design.
*00:06*
I would agree.
*00:06*
Wait, so it just makes you run around really fast to eat all of the little gobies or whatever?
*00:06*
For me also lower, and I think
*00:06*
And I was like, well, I found them all.
*00:06*
Spam eggs if you can't figure it out.
*00:06*
Uh except she says it with whatever rhyme she says.
*00:06*
Uh but back then, no, more more game.
*00:06*
And it's all very random and goofy and then none of it's hinted at before.
*00:06*
It sounds very, very good.
*00:06*
Yeah, I didn't want to say ga-hut, even though I guess I've now said ga-huh.
*00:06*
I mean obviously the texture is different, but like when you're a kid, you're not looking at windows and saying, well that one's
*00:06*
It is actually
*00:06*
My mother's trying to talk to me while I'm trying to win this race and this bear keeps pushing me out of the way.
*00:06*
It's area hallway.
*00:06*
Is that because I looked I tried to look up the answers for this and it said we straight up can't give you the answers for this because they're randomized
*00:06*
It's uh it's very challenging appropriately if we're a final boss.
*00:06*
Well it's very random that there's an ancient Jinjo Nader statue standing on top of this tower that you can activate.
*00:06*
Like yes, you know, fairest of them all kind of snow white.
*00:06*
So they're games that have I'm sure a hat in time probably does something similar.
*00:06*
Please watch.
*00:06*
Would have been a week before.
*00:06*
But when I see the actual gameplay, screenshot, characters, whatever, it's not nostalgic because it's a very much a
*00:06*
Cause there's no way that like I haven't actually tried to line it up with I should have actually tried to line it up with a like a timer on my phone or something.
*00:06*
The music is great.
*00:06*
And you can clearly do so in summer.
*00:06*
For sure.
*00:06*
So she has a house inside her lair.
*00:06*
As someone who's played it for the first time, I think it holds up remarkably well.
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
So, you know, that was a little bit much and I remember uh you know the the second race in Freeze Easy Peak.
*00:06*
It's very good.
*00:06*
Hi, Logan.
*00:07*
If you want to get here, you have to be very careful not to fall in the water, which also happens to take
*00:07*
The the other thing I wanted to bring up with this, and I don't know if this was just uh
*00:07*
And then you find this area and it comes back and it digs it back up, hopefully.
*00:07*
It was like backflipping onto leaves
*00:07*
Did you just run up it?
*00:07*
No, you can totally be them without it.
*00:07*
I just wish
*00:07*
And then the next time I did it and I won.
*00:07*
Like it still is
*00:07*
They give them the cute name.
*00:07*
Uh compared to previous levels at least.
*00:07*
I think it's battling for second place with another one.
*00:07*
Do you have any yet left that we haven't talked about that you either really love or you really dislike for one reason or another?
*00:07*
But yeah, agree on that point.
*00:07*
I th I think that's what it's supposed to be for sure, yeah.
*00:07*
With Grunty's revenge.
*00:07*
That's all I'm gonna say.
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
Uh water levels
*00:07*
Most of the jinjos are out of the water.
*00:07*
And, you know, the bee in spring is great because you can just fly.
*00:07*
It is very good.
*00:07*
If I never told you that you could have turned into the
*00:07*
And that's the only time we're gonna tell you that you can do it the whole game, or or that you at least that you need to do it.
*00:07*
Yeah, we'll bounce back and forth here.
*00:07*
And let me tell you, boys.
*00:07*
I have my uh my notes for the show.
*00:07*
And this was, you know, Banjo's big debut.
*00:07*
Like they they each have a positive personality
*00:07*
And it's a part, and that is a part of those games in spirit, and I do appreciate it when that happens.
*00:07*
It is very, very good.
*00:07*
Welcome to Chapter Select.
*00:07*
It's uh it doesn't make sense most of the time how much I love this game.
*00:07*
And they're like, well, we don't own that console.
*00:07*
Have you played like every version of this game over the years, starting with N64 and then
*00:07*
I remember when it first came out on
*00:07*
So this isn't just uh I don't know how that all applied to Grunty's revenge, really.
*00:07*
Uh
*00:07*
And uh
*00:07*
It just seems like there were so many different things.
*00:07*
And so you
*00:07*
Solid start.
*00:07*
Yes, but my brain was was wired a little differently.
*00:07*
And my brain immediately went to Wind Waker.
*00:07*
I'm excited to revisit Grunty's Revenge because I just like that game a lot as a kid and I'm
*00:07*
So you know this is 100% true, but it does sound at least logical to me.
*00:07*
No, I mean again, I I feel like as far as the soundtrack goes, we really talked about a lot of the tracks that I think we specifically liked and stuff with Michael.
*00:07*
It is a lot of it's a lot.
*00:07*
It was developed by Rare in
*00:07*
Well, you have to go back and you have to collect them all again and the missing one for it to count.
*00:07*
It just it almost feels artificially
*00:07*
The squirrel, the beehive, the eagle, the um
*00:07*
Literally the strategy is let him get ahead.
*00:07*
You can walk in the walrus that doesn't freeze you now.
*00:07*
It was one of the it was one of the jigsaw puzzle.
*00:07*
But the game at the end
*00:07*
And he is a content editor at Digipen.
*00:07*
It's so it's so great.
*00:07*
Or do you patch an option of time ROM?
*00:07*
Um essentially there's two versions, the N64 one and the the Xbox Arcade one.
*00:07*
One thing to remember about
*00:07*
It's just one little dot in the middle you can land on.
*00:07*
What is the point of this?
*00:07*
I some of the like why is there a bull and a monkey and ants, like some of the character stuff
*00:07*
And your like save point.
*00:07*
Like all of the attacks in the game somehow involve that.
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
That was the game
*00:07*
And I assume Michael is on the banjo side as well.
*00:07*
The music
*00:07*
And then there's the giant um
*00:07*
I was gonna say even in the game show part you didn't do that?
*00:07*
I was like, wow, these you know, they really took the foundation of Kazooie and and built it up.
*00:07*
What do you think about this one, Michael?
*00:07*
Um you don't really see that a lot today, but you get to the the end, which is a giant
*00:07*
They they say you like that one line of dialogue that you're talking about.
*00:07*
We had a couple of other things we wanted to touch on.
*00:07*
And it's so creative, it's so fun, and it makes me want to read her dialogue.
*00:07*
And the music's really good.
*00:07*
I I don't I I just know that I had to pay a pretty penny to get Grunty's Revenge on its own.
*00:07*
And the only reason it looks different is be
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
Just
*00:07*
I would have been like how th
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
And he's not gonna be able to overcome that just because it's a final fight.
*00:07*
I I thought that was always
*00:07*
I feel like we'll maybe we'll mention this a time or two over the course of this season.
*00:07*
Hi everybody.
*00:07*
Yes, I'm it's and then her rhyming, the way she interjects and taunts you the entire game.
*00:07*
Season 3 is hosted by Logan Moore and myself.
*00:07*
Missing Link, yeah, that's fine.
*00:07*
Like filler.
*00:07*
I think that's what it's called.
*00:07*
Males, I think.
*00:07*
And that was the first game I had.
*00:07*
That's never been a favorite.
*00:07*
You can.
*00:07*
So far removed from
*00:07*
How do you guys feel about bubble gloop swamp?
*00:07*
You can't do one or the other
*00:07*
That sucks.
*00:07*
Because I just like I have like key design problems with Bubble Gloop, I think.
*00:07*
Very hard.
*00:07*
A lot of what of them we talked about with Michael over the course of our conversation with him, but we never really touched on
*00:07*
I don't think so.
*00:07*
Uh I don't know if you want to check it out.
*00:07*
Let me know what you guys think, I guess.
*00:07*
But I mean it was a big deal when the game came to Switch Online too.
*00:07*
No achievements.
*00:07*
I went in the water and swam in the hole I saw.
*00:07*
That doesn't, I don't think that's
*00:07*
The music is the best in Pro.
*00:07*
Just a ton of time trying to find those darn bananas.
*00:07*
And I think it's so important to make sure you have that down in a collectathon.
*00:07*
And it's one of those textures again that really doesn't look like There we go.
*00:07*
Um yeah, just the constant sarcasm and the constant
*00:07*
It's called Jiggies of Time.
*00:07*
It's it's great.
*00:07*
And then you gotta backtrack to get the back there of this.
*00:07*
And so I read I read that book
*00:07*
The snowman can go away and they can build some stairs on that tree.
*00:07*
I would agree.
*00:07*
It is.
*00:07*
It's not great.
*00:07*
It doesn't happen very often, these questions?
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
Like I it just still to this day is very, very impressive.
*00:07*
I was like, oh man, this is going over.
*00:07*
Uh so yeah, like that I I have so many memories of this game just
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
And
*00:07*
There's a a special feeling to that especially as a kid when
*00:07*
I know my uh Logan did.
*00:07*
And I like that it's so hard because it makes getting all the jiggies in the game
*00:07*
Like I was very into the pitch and like the idea behind it, but I was
*00:07*
Ikum Bokum.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Oh yeah, definitely.
*00:08*
It's a whole thing.
*00:08*
So it's unfortunate, but
*00:08*
Cause it's been like 10 years since I played this game, and so I was like
*00:08*
Like I remember that.
*00:08*
Uh so I have all of those images still somewhere in in my head to this day.
*00:08*
I wanted to I wanted to pose that we try to go to the top now because personally
*00:08*
You said you got a top three in mind, right?
*00:08*
Just a delight to be in this level.
*00:08*
Um bubble bubble gloop swamp.
*00:08*
I'm trying to think now.
*00:08*
No, when I re
*00:08*
But one of the notes that I wrote for myself was when in doubt, eggs.
*00:08*
But all in all, I actually like
*00:08*
And I I do too.
*00:08*
But I gave you the three months.
*00:08*
But this is
*00:08*
Honestly, I think everything about it were I'm trying to think like what what about this sucks
*00:08*
And I remember that same feeling of, oh wait, there's more?
*00:08*
Um this game just feels
*00:08*
Bottles is more of a tutorial companion, teaches you how to do everything in the game for the most part
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Nuts and bolts is what people are.
*00:08*
I mean, well, I guess you could say the Super Nintendo stuff they made was pretty
*00:08*
And um
*00:08*
What was actually difficult for me when I first played?
*00:08*
It's one of my favorite levels songs.
*00:08*
What is your wrong opinion?
*00:08*
There's a lighthouse.
*00:08*
Now that we're kind of in the middle or I don't know.
*00:08*
The hand, which isn't really a character.
*00:08*
And then especially during that time, especially as a kid, you
*00:08*
But like
*00:08*
I mean there there are moments of it, but it's it's not the main thing you are doing by any
*00:08*
And I don't know how exactly he did that or if that's just like a
*00:08*
That's why message.
*00:08*
Look at all these new moves.
*00:08*
Like make a mental note, go get that later.
*00:08*
Anyway, see ya.
*00:08*
Um and again, n not everything that you need to do during the game show relies on those facts.
*00:08*
I like it for two reasons.
*00:08*
You can
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Like anytime you learn a new move, Kazooie's like, you're gonna do what to me here?
*00:08*
That was not a part of the decision process, but technically
*00:08*
Um especially considering I've only played
*00:08*
Um the reason I hate the one
*00:08*
Uh I love it.
*00:08*
I don't think that would have been possible.
*00:08*
I I don't have two of them.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
So I think that added to
*00:08*
I I still think that's one of the more inventive like
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
Um the experiences around the game are nostalgic.
*00:08*
Things like that.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
You you just can't have that.
*00:08*
They're making you
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Anyone can contribute.
*00:08*
Good job.
*00:08*
I think it's very clever and very smart and fun design.
*00:08*
A week before your yes, that's right.
*00:08*
Every time I think about this game or go back to it, it's hard for me to
*00:08*
You lose all your notes?
*00:08*
So I guess
*00:08*
So my brain just thought
*00:08*
I think so too for me.
*00:08*
That's it
*00:08*
It's the music.
*00:08*
They must be in here.
*00:08*
Okay.
*00:08*
They're it's all woven together, I think, quite well.
*00:08*
Because it is everything you said very s
*00:08*
I mean that one or one of them alone doesn't
*00:08*
Um I did just start Slow Horses, another show on there.
*00:08*
Well that that one's like you just
*00:08*
I think that's the answer.
*00:08*
No, but I I mean again, I should actually try to test that, but uh
*00:08*
It was easy.
*00:08*
You need the shoes to beat the gator
*00:08*
Uh this is like near the bottom of the music list for me, maybe too
*00:08*
It's a wah wah wah wah wah wah wah but I can hear all of their different unique
*00:08*
It just makes them more memorable, which I think helps ultimately then the game stick with people for the past.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
It's banjo is involved in my life constantly.
*00:08*
The entrance is above the sewer pipe.
*00:08*
Because I used to have the uh
*00:08*
Half click lock wood.
*00:08*
The amount of times I fell from this tree
*00:08*
Just
*00:08*
Like I I think The sister?
*00:08*
I don't know if the answers are consistent.
*00:08*
Who knows how video games really work.
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
Like this is immediately what comes to my mind.
*00:08*
Oh they're too good to us.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
I guess we'll go bottom to top.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
This is how
*00:08*
Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge.
*00:08*
I think it applies a lot throughout all of the levels where Mumbo
*00:08*
I personally don't like it that much because I've played it 3,000 times
*00:08*
But you can wear those as an alligator?
*00:08*
That's the best thing I can say about it.
*00:08*
And so I think it's it's awesome.
*00:08*
Well don't worry, 'cause in nuts and bolts they replace that with cars and
*00:08*
But but yeah.
*00:08*
Um and I Okay, I guess I guess I don't have all good things to say about this level, because there are some
*00:08*
Um and and again that's power
*00:08*
Max I'm gonna guess is gonna say click clock wood at three three or
*00:08*
And I as soon as I get off this call, I'm gonna go check if the uh
*00:08*
Oh if anyone's here like that.
*00:08*
I never not once thought that.
*00:08*
It's kind of again very
*00:08*
Um But I I I feel the same way about any of the time situations in the game.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Some were better than others, like you mentioned.
*00:08*
One of the notes, and it's been a long time since I've played it.
*00:08*
I think it fits thematically.
*00:08*
And click-clock would be three.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
I think this is actually really a clever incentive
*00:08*
This is one of my favorite songs.
*00:08*
Like all the different sound effects from all of the different characters that I
*00:08*
You enjoyed that, yeah?
*00:08*
Maybe.
*00:09*
So
*00:09*
Like they give you like
*00:09*
On top of the mountain, outside of the level?
*00:09*
Area
*00:09*
So Especially because they don't really like make you ever
*00:09*
It is kinda odd and I'm wondering what they're
*00:09*
Um and if I had done better on the flying part, I could have done it without losing
*00:09*
You finally make it to the clicklock wood area and you're like, wait, where's the jigsaw thing?
*00:09*
I think click clock click clock wood is the best world in the game, personally.
*00:09*
And I think that
*00:09*
That would be good.
*00:09*
Um Rusty Bucket Bay eight, we said.
*00:09*
Is that what you said you are Michael?
*00:09*
Like even if you compare it to something like
*00:09*
Or
*00:09*
I don't think though
*00:09*
This is where you get your both both your pads.
*00:09*
Great.
*00:09*
This doesn't seem very safe.
*00:09*
When you you you set
*00:09*
And I had fun with it.
*00:09*
That's not good.
*00:09*
I actually love that kind of stuff.
*00:09*
I think an early example of this, at least in
*00:09*
And this is entirely warped by my
*00:09*
No
*00:09*
Greg Males and George Andreas.
*00:09*
I guess I'll play this now and maybe actually try to beat it as I'm in high school and
*00:09*
I did not find the honeycombs.
*00:09*
Yeah.
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
I agree with you, I think.
*00:09*
Yeah.
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
But I do like
*00:09*
Very hard.
*00:09*
But have any of you guys are any of you watching Severance?
*00:09*
Hello.
*00:09*
You were the first person that came to mind when we
*00:09*
It's just
*00:09*
And but you can't go up
*00:09*
It's the music.
*00:09*
I I'm basically replaying this game
*00:09*
So uh
*00:09*
Um I would say that the one that is
*00:09*
That's true.
*00:09*
How do you guys feel about the game?
*00:09*
Like I said, I I mean to this day, can you think of any other games even in
*00:09*
You have to figure out how to get the water to go down.
*00:09*
For the record I I I like Freeze Easy Peak too.
*00:09*
I didn't touch him because I was a gator, I wasn't uh Kazooie.
*00:09*
I don't know.
*00:09*
For this season 3E
*00:09*
Oh, you said it's the 360 would have provided.
*00:09*
You are probably right.
*00:09*
Or they or a different level.
*00:09*
This one is
*00:09*
I feel
*00:09*
Maybe we'll look into it.
*00:09*
Um you were the first person that came to mind for Kasui, so thank you for joining us.
*00:09*
And I've I've uh I've more than dabbled in that
*00:09*
There's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
*00:09*
Sure.
*00:09*
This one it's in the reverse.
*00:09*
I think it that level is phenomenal.
*00:09*
Yeah, I I I almost agree with that, but figuring out that that's back there.
*00:09*
I think
*00:09*
Does this run on real hardware?
*00:09*
But there are every so often like, oh dang, yeah, this game's really good.
*00:09*
But I'd never Kazooie was never really in my life.
*00:09*
Okay.
*00:09*
Did you have trouble uh jumping out and then back in
*00:09*
Looking at the list here.
*00:09*
You actually play as him so it's like it's a bigger connection.
*00:09*
Good.
*00:09*
And then Banjo
*00:09*
They're just
*00:09*
Those were given
*00:09*
And what did I find?
*00:09*
So I wasn't
*00:09*
Fall.
*00:09*
So it's very short.
*00:09*
You never did that?
*00:09*
No, for sure.
*00:09*
The spiral mountain doesn't really count.
*00:10*
The thing I read though said said that you can't give definitive answers because it's
*00:10*
I've never encountered another human who's done this.
*00:10*
As someone who
*00:10*
I love Treasure Trove Cove, I love Click Clock Wood, whatever.
*00:10*
Jiggies of Time.
*00:10*
Which one?
*00:10*
Still the same version of the game, a little nicer though, but it is available on
*00:10*
I suppose.
*00:10*
I'm curious.
*00:10*
Uh
*00:10*
It was the jigsaw butt puzzle behind.
*00:10*
Well, actually that's not true.
*00:10*
Logan, the cast of this game.
*00:10*
Um and they they technically are, 'cause you could leave and there's a sphere.
*00:10*
Number one, um
*00:10*
You have saved the the thing and it's done.
*00:10*
I I definitely don't own Banjo Pilot.
*00:10*
And I so I just never really played it.
*00:10*
And and I will say about the whole distance travel thing
*00:10*
Congrats.
*00:10*
Just all these little
*00:10*
Um because I think it's generally kind of
*00:10*
Like it's just a bunch of
*00:10*
So going into that world, for example
*00:10*
Twenty.
*00:10*
Anyway
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
So
*00:10*
Absolutely.
*00:10*
But the last uh jigsaw that I got
*00:10*
Beautiful.
*00:10*
Sure.
*00:10*
Here's everything you're gonna need for the most part.
*00:10*
Michael, is there anything you would like to share?
*00:10*
You can tell when it's a Grant Kirkup track, and this is a part of that.
*00:10*
It's it's it it's
*00:10*
I don't know.
*00:10*
And
*00:10*
The whole thing's got muddled.
*00:10*
This man here.
*00:10*
There's um
*00:10*
Uh well
*00:10*
I actually I'm not sure.
*00:10*
And I think that's so
*00:10*
And there's a jiggy in there.
*00:10*
No, I t I totally do too.
*00:10*
The click-clock wood puzzle.
*00:10*
I'm not a fan of them, even though they're just the
*00:10*
Like this feels like it's just got
*00:10*
The hand
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
There's another, there's a Banjo Kazooie mod
*00:10*
Uh
*00:10*
It's the logical thing to like put a player to next before getting into the
*00:10*
I feel like that might be
*00:10*
I think it encourages you to explore
*00:10*
So
*00:10*
Need ninety-eight.
*00:10*
And I know this is something not unique by any means, but like
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
I I I I just didn't want to eat up all your night like
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
I wasn't entirely sure of the mechanic of it.
*00:10*
Um was way too much.
*00:10*
Walk in the water and the other walrus will let you in.
*00:10*
Um and it's also
*00:10*
I think there is a little too much at the start with the eggs.
*00:10*
It just shows up out of nowhere.
*00:10*
It's going on twenty four I should say.
*00:10*
Smash Brothers is too good to us.
*00:10*
Um and there's a level of um
*00:10*
Uh and I don't think that's quite
*00:10*
But
*00:10*
So they do have their like
*00:10*
I've heard of that.
*00:10*
I mean I don't I don't maybe it's not as
*00:10*
Um I
*00:10*
Also
*00:10*
I think the the tick or whatever uh
*00:10*
Um if you know this was collect a thon on
*00:10*
I mean, obviously, at the time we're recording this, we haven't
*00:10*
Like, is it the total opposite for you then?
*00:10*
But I think the theme
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
Click clock what it is.
*00:10*
I don't know.
*00:11*
Yes
*00:11*
But in the N64
*00:11*
Because
*00:11*
Like
*00:11*
That's bad.
*00:11*
I don't know why.
*00:11*
com.
*00:11*
But it does slow down a little bit before like
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
Like you will straight up pass
*00:11*
Um visually it just doesn't seem
*00:11*
It did get rude for a season two, I saw
*00:11*
It's like
*00:11*
They're they're integral to each other.
*00:11*
And then it'll give you uh one of what is it like three options.
*00:11*
But you you talked about that
*00:11*
So he has to lean on
*00:11*
It's just like
*00:11*
Play in a mid-game.
*00:11*
That's very important.
*00:11*
This is where you learn the jumping and the flying.
*00:11*
You had to be basically almost in the water.
*00:11*
It's just a captivating
*00:11*
I'm excited to see
*00:11*
Like that was my
*00:11*
I've never played those games
*00:11*
I need to find
*00:11*
And that makes it my number three, just for that.
*00:11*
But uh
*00:11*
Outside the level.
*00:11*
So I was fairly.
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
It was a very tense situation.
*00:11*
But the Bear and the Bird.
*00:11*
I guess banjo.
*00:11*
It was kind of cool to see
*00:11*
So I
*00:11*
We'll go back and do a
*00:11*
So yes, which just happened
*00:11*
Uh my
*00:11*
Like er like
*00:11*
You go in there and you get the jiggy
*00:11*
I I don't know about that.
*00:11*
It just never ends.
*00:11*
I remember when.
*00:11*
Um
*00:11*
It's never.
*00:11*
It's got Gary Old.
*00:11*
Puzzle behind a bubble gloop.
*00:12*
Yes.
*00:12*
Uh
*00:12*
And it's either
*00:12*
Like
*00:12*
Jiggies of Time.
*00:12*
Uh I didn't mean it in a negative way, it was more just like
*00:12*
I know I didn't say too much about it, but I do think that's a
*00:12*
These are the jiggies, these are the notes, these are
*00:12*
Oh the Jinjos are here.
*00:12*
Which is uh which is a really great moment.
*00:12*
I don't know.
*00:12*
Okay, that's fine.
*00:12*
You can save there and you can be done.
*00:12*
Rare Replay got an eighty four out of a hundred.
*00:12*
And then I didn't have a three sixty.
*00:12*
Otherwise, no idea.
*00:12*
But
*00:12*
I thought it was actually like
*00:12*
I do own Grunty's Revenge.
*00:12*
Like if you're
*00:12*
That's how
*00:12*
For sure.
*00:12*
And
*00:12*
It just it's
*00:12*
It keeps me engaged with her
*00:12*
And that's a different
*00:12*
I've seen ads for it.
*00:12*
So if
*00:13*
I I know how to separate them.
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
It's not just
*00:13*
It's very, very good.
*00:13*
I was like mute.
*00:13*
But
*00:13*
Like
*00:13*
It's just a couple of them.
*00:13*
And
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
And
*00:13*
I
*00:13*
You just put the eggs in this
*00:13*
Here it's just more like
*00:13*
Woof.
*00:13*
Yep.
*00:13*
But
*00:13*
Grunty
*00:13*
So
*00:14*
