Enjoy. --- Hello everybody and welcome to Chapter Select, a seasonal podcast where we bounce back and forth between a series exploring their evolution, design, and legacy. *00:00* For season five, we are covering Resident Evil. *00:07* Did I did I do a good impactination? *00:14* Do you think so? *00:16* Okay. *00:18* My name is Max Robertson. *00:18* I'm joined as always by Logan Moore. *00:20* Hi Logan. *00:21* Hey, we're back to the video games. *00:22* Back to the video games. *00:24* Movies are gone. *00:26* Back to games, which means larger time sinks. *00:27* Well Resident Evil does have movies. *00:31* We're not discussing them. *00:33* It's true. *00:34* So we're not discussing the Resident Evil films. *00:34* No. *00:37* What's her name? *00:37* Alice Discussions. *00:38* I think that's her name in those movies. *00:39* I don't know. *00:40* I've never seen those. *00:41* I've only seen Welcome to Raccoon City *00:41* Same. *00:44* You and me both. *00:45* In the theater together. *00:46* You and me both. *00:48* This is this is why we watched Fast and Furious, or part of the reason, was so that we could play all of the Resident Evil games. *00:51* Because Resident Evil 4 remake is coming out fairly soon. *00:59* Yeah, so uh and so this is kind of uh the inverse of what we did with Fast, which was *01:03* I've never seen any of those movies and but I was interested from afar and you brought me into the fold and now we're doing the same thing here sort of in reverse with Resident Evil where I've played all of these games *01:10* And you have played none of them. *01:22* And so or pretty much none of them. *01:24* Very few. *01:26* Yeah, you've played s parts of seven and village, I believe. *01:27* And that was about it. *01:30* Yeah. *01:31* Um *01:32* And so now half of two and then Platinum Three. *01:32* So now I'm bringing you into the fold with this formally, which I think will be quite fun. *01:38* I'm looking forward to it because *01:44* Uh we recorded some of the episodes actually before recording this, a little peek behind the curtain. *01:47* But you know, my introduction was pretty much solely through Resident Evil 7 and VR, and so I'm excited to explore the the past games. *01:51* and the new remakes and kind of see how it all comes together. *01:59* I'm I'm actually loving the old games, I think, a bit more than some of the the more modern stuff. *02:02* So I'm I'm very excited to finally dig into this legendary video game series. *02:07* Yeah, some of the things you've been you're saying here about how you like the old games a little bit more is interesting to me based on some of the discussions we've already had. *02:14* So I'm curious to see where you'll stand once we get to the end of *02:20* This season. *02:24* With that in mind, we are doing a little bit of a different order for this season. *02:25* We're going back to our bounce back and forth sort of core of chapter select here. *02:29* So we will be going from some older entries in the series to newer entries, but we're not doing it *02:33* In the way you would m potentially expect. *02:38* Uh We tailor made the order this season around *02:40* both the release order of these games remakes and how they fit in with older games because we have some core older games. *02:46* So it's kind of this fusion of new, old, release order, and some narrative stuff that makes a bit of sense. *02:54* And not only that, but we're not doing if there has been a remake in the series, we are not playing the original game as well. *03:00* Ex Yes. *03:07* Except for in the case of Resident Evil 4. *03:08* Yes. *03:11* That is the only one, and the reason we're doing that is because *03:11* That game is not out yet, and that game will actually release midway through our recording of this season. *03:15* So we will be playing that game in real time, and we thought that that was going to be a fun way to *03:21* build up to that game when it releases in March twenty twenty three. *03:26* Yes. *03:30* With that being said though, here is the order we are going with for season five. *03:30* It will start with the original Resident Evil, the remake, I guess you should say. *03:34* The HD remake is the remake specifically played. *03:38* Yeah the re-remake. *03:40* Uh so Resident Evil 1, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 3 remake *03:41* Resident Evil Code Veronica, Resident Evil Village, or Resident Evil 8, whatever you want to call it, Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, and then we will end cap things with Resident Evil 4 remake. *03:51* It's a little different as as we said. *04:02* We're if we were to do a true back and forth, you know, we would start with Resident Evil One and then go to Village four remake. *04:04* Well four remake wouldn't be out by then, but yes. *04:11* It wouldn't, but like that's kind of the *04:14* problem that was presented with this season too is do we bounce back and forth in chronological order or game number order because obviously Resident Evil 2, the remake is *04:16* newer, but I I don't know. *04:27* So this was a little bit of a different way that we had to construct this list. *04:29* And I think we did so in a way that makes sense and will be conducive to good conversations, which is what our *04:32* core of this podcast goal is always about. *04:39* Yeah. *04:42* So I'm excited about it. *04:43* I think our order is pretty snazzy, if I do say so myself. *04:44* And I think it's lending itself to *04:47* r discovering these remakes in a better way against the context of where they came from, the series, and how they've been improved, or maybe not so much improved. *04:52* uh coming into the modern era, you know, what is good from the old games, what's good in the new ones. *05:02* So we've got this fusion, and there's a bunch of different ways to play these games too, from *05:07* on PlayStation, which is predominantly I think where we're both playing them, to things like N VR or um the old games on GameCube and things like that. *05:13* So there's a lot of different platforms and methods of playing these games. *05:21* that we'll be exploring as well. *05:25* And I think that's one of the things I would encourage people. *05:27* I mean, if you're listening to this, I assume you might be playing or listening along with us. *05:29* Uh for this coming season, I don't think we've ever played a series of games that is going to be more easily accessible than Resident Evil. *05:34* All of these games are *05:42* Widely available across Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC. *05:44* You can play the full series of every single of those platforms. *05:48* Yeah, except for in the case of I guess four remake will be the only one that will not be on Switch, I'm thinking, but I think everything else is on Switch via cloud versions and stuff. *05:52* I'm not sure about that. *06:03* Yeah. *06:06* Code Veronica, I guess. *06:06* I think two and three are cloud versions on Switch remake. *06:08* So those games are accessible to you there. *06:13* They go on sale all the time digitally on Switch and PlayStation and Xbox. *06:15* So they're super accessible, which has been really nice and refreshing compared to some of our previous seasons, where it's like, uh, how do I get this game or how do I play that? *06:19* per se. *06:29* So I'm very excited about it. *06:30* My shelf is now all res I have the whole resident evil collection now. *06:31* It's and now I'm looking at some Wii games. *06:35* I'm like, should I go back and get the dark *06:36* Chronicles games and all this other shit. *06:39* Outbreak on PS2. *06:40* Yeah, I'm really diving down the Resident Evil rabbit hole and it's super, super fun. *06:42* The other thing we did want to point out here up top is just a couple of the guests that we'll have on this season. *06:46* This could change, but we do have a couple locked in so that you can. *06:52* Look forward to hearing from uh Ricky Freck will be coming back on the show. *06:56* We've got Michael Ruiz coming back on the show, and then we will have a couple newcomers as well this season. *07:00* Uh Dustin Furman from Last Stand Media will be joining us. *07:05* for one episode and our good old podcasting buddy Jared Weich will be on an episode as well. *07:08* And we might have some others joining in too, but we're not sure yet. *07:14* So we'll see. *07:18* Yeah, it's still very much in production. *07:19* We've got a healthy lead time on here thanks to Fast and Furious, but we are very much looking forward to the rest of this season. *07:21* It starts *07:27* Next week on January 11th and will carry us all the way through in a bi-weekly manner to May 31st. *07:29* So basically the first five months of the year is just going to be Resident Evil Town here on Chapter Select. *07:35* So thank you so much for
