*00:00* I'm my co-host Joe Devader and I. *00:00* to the moon game imposter factory coming out at the end of this month. *00:00* We pick a series of games and we bounce back and forth between its entries, uh, exploring their evolution design and legacy. *00:00* Jack Perfect. *00:00* Hey Max, thanks for having me. *00:00* And maybe it might be the next thing. *00:00* Usually Wednesday, 10 a. *00:00* a lot lately and Xbox has done that a time or two as well. *00:00* And it's all about finding that sweet spot too. *00:00* caught our eye that really we cared about. *00:00* Uh going into the direct, Nintendo specifically said this was focusing on uh on mostly games releasing this holiday. *00:00* generally what they tend to do. *00:00* I've Capcom is clearly hit a stride with Monster Hunter, both in I think the consumer market and just cranking them out. *00:00* But to have someone to play with, especially looking at the the tag team mode that they talked about online, I think that definitely appeals. *00:00* Bringing online to Mario Party feels like one of the most obvious duh moments, and it was crazy it took so long for them to add it to Super Mario Party. *00:00* Which I guess should have been a sign that they were gonna have another Mario Party game soon, but I'm really happy to see them bring it, you know, too *00:00* Hit or miss. *00:00* It's a card RPG. *00:00* you know, Mario Party this way working out uh quite regular for people, which could mean more sales and then maybe another Mario Party game. *00:00* Gosh, this music sounds a lot like it's near automata inspired, and sure enough, it's it's Yokotaro and Keichi Yokabe is the composer, so it's like *00:00* I really like that offering. *00:00* uh triangle strategy and stuff, which is still sitting on my switch and I want to play it. *00:00* Yeah, I think it's great to have it on Switch. *00:00* I wanna play you, but not right now, and I've never found like the time to just dive into the demo. *00:00* It was a rental. *00:00* I keep wanting to play it simply because it is a prequel to Breath of the Wild, but I've never played one of those Musso-style, you know, Warriors games where you just hack and slash and kill hundreds of enemies at once. *00:00* A kart racer with Final Fantasy characters. *00:00* Yeah, it was I was cracking up uh there was a chocobo racing game. *00:00* Square Enix fans and Final Fantasy folks, but I I'm good with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, personally. *00:00* Sakurai is revealing the final Smash character, and I believe they even said that this is the final Smash Brothers ultimate like presentation. *00:00* we were gonna get another game of the Game Awards reveal, that kind of like really big hype moment. *00:00* And arguably the days leading up to it in speculation. *00:00* Snuck an announcement in there that here's the next character, but for it to be the final one to give it a sense of finality, I think this was the right move to do. *00:00* a couple weeks to hypothesize on who that character might be. *00:00* would get a chuckle out of it. *00:00* Okay, it'd be an interesting pick and it probably would be cool, but is that really a character that everyone would be excited about? *00:00* Steve maybe have been like the big internet breaking moment to end it all, right? *00:00* You know, characters I would like to see. *00:00* Like exactly. *00:00* Now's the right time to make that announcement. *00:00* Uh I'm I'm going to be pleasantly surprised. *00:00* uh, you know, over 30 year old in me talking of gone through enough uh Super Smash Bros. *00:00* Yeah, that's the near thirty year old in me also. *00:00* I know basically I never have people over at my house to play Smash, and even if I did, we would just put their switch in. *00:00* They love their pluses. *00:00* I I don't think I can say I'm like, oh, I'm so excited for it. *00:00* on on 3DS. *00:00* said was coming. *00:00* I mean, if that comes to pass, we don't get any indication really of that from this trailer. *00:00* I'm curious to see more. *00:00* 22 again. *00:00* You know, to get it out there, have it be another future game. *00:00* looking pretty full or packed going forward, which is good, I think. *00:00* Breath of the Wild 2, maybe. *00:00* buildings covered in moss and all that. *00:00* The next the next announcement did get uh my wife, Abby, super duper, duper excited uh because Nintendo acknowledged that Animal Crossing needs new content. *00:00* Yes, gimme the coffee house. *00:00* Real nice surprise. *00:00* The new Super Mario Brothers games, they're like the little ninja people. *00:00* What their names are ninjas. *00:00* Albeit a younger one. *00:00* to go back to. *00:00* have more, I guess, modern day game sensibilities to it. *00:00* They're having a good time sprinkling it around and bringing some old stuff back while they get ready to build out to new things. *00:00* There's a Fallen Order 2 in production. *00:00* of these older games. *00:00* these bigger title games. *00:00* the effort that goes into them. *00:00* A native version of the game. *00:00* It's crazy what people can do, but the sacrifices that can be made. *00:00* Keen on trying the debut demo of Project Triangle Strategy, which Max, it came out on February 17th, 2021. *00:00* No, it didn't. *00:00* Um, wow, that's actually makes the release kind of even more impressive to me because I really thought this was gonna take a while to come out. *00:00* Oh, okay. *00:00* Uh but I do have a backup at a target just in case, but no amiibo. *00:00* Yeah, they even promoted their online uh sort of reports or whatever. *00:00* Uh also interesting to see people talk about, you know, thinking like, oh, maybe the uh the Metroid Prime trilogy, that's you know, one of those things where it's like it should be a thing, right? *00:00* Metroid Prime's twentieth anniversary next year, perhaps that just a remake slash remaster whatever it is of the original Prime on its own could be in the works. *00:00* Fusion sort of ties. *00:00* Nintendo 64 made sense. *00:00* But the you know, they the next thing was the N sixty four. *00:00* Uh I believe, which is I like that name a lot for the N sixty four in Genesis because N sixty four is expansion pack, and then the Genesis was also infamous for modular expansion. *00:00* Turbo graphics and stuff. *00:00* I forget the name of the company. *00:00* recall like one year of Nintendo Switch online for a individual is twenty dollars. *00:00* I'm fine with it. *00:00* Those are the ones you needed to have. *00:00* I think, yeah, you're right. *00:00* The question is how often do they roll it out and what else do they have planned beyond that? *00:00* Uh I think over half of the games here are twenty-two. *00:00* Yeah, there's an appeal there. *00:00* reminding people that it is out uh in a month, basically a month and some change and uh revealed what was it, the final maps, courses, right? *00:00* You know, actually uh my fiance and I have gotten into Super Mario Party, so I think if it were just myself playing, I would look at this and say, oh, that's nice. *00:00* It's Mario Party? *00:00* Which is kind of the point of Mario Party. *00:00* Yeah, it's tapping into that tabletop RPG, kind of like done some dragons, you know, with your dice rolls and things like that. *00:00* I really love at least Square, I think, has really been leaning into demos a lot more lately. *00:00* I think uh I agree. *00:00* gather feedback and how to improve the game, I think that's also a very beneficial way of using that as a tool for your development team. *00:00* graphics intensive presentation because it is a lot of menuing and reading. *00:00* 8-bit and actually you can go ahead and pre-order that now, I believe, if you would like the game physically. *00:00* I mean, Disco Elysium, I have not played yet, heard wonderful things about, but I feel like it would I mean maybe the portability of the Switch. *00:00* th we were just laughing that this game is still getting DLC, you know, I mean they've announced this previously, but it's just this game keeps on coming. *00:00* in um in game releases and stuff as we'll get to after Chocobo GP, which is another Square Enix title. *00:00* Maybe? *00:00* Now, making it its own direct, its own presentation, Nintendo owns the day *00:00* mechanics and whatnot, this can kind of marinate for a bit and people are gonna be talking about this, hyping it up. *00:00* you know, the whatever corners of the internet they're in and be like, oh, this this character's getting into smash. *00:00* Everyone's building it up. *00:00* Uh Smash really is gonna rule the day on uh October 5th. *00:00* could be the final Smash Ultimate character. *00:00* So it was going to be a popular character if they were going to make all the fans happy. *00:00* in itself will disappoint people, because then you're you're picking from uh likely a Pokemon *00:00* But then people are going to say, well, was this character worth it? *00:00* You know, despite the the Disney difficulties there, a Capcom character like Phoenix Wright would be amazing. *00:00* But then you see things like uh, you know, uh Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden gets thrown around every now and then in a lot of leaks, and it's like, is there any weight to that? *00:00* Do something like that because they've done that for Pokemon Sword and Shield. *00:00* Smash maybe next year, even, you know. *00:00* um ultimate here, but I for now this is, you know, the end of Smash. *00:00* Mm-hmm. *00:00* not leaked, but like f Nintendo themselves accidentally published it a little too soon on one of their Japanese sites. *00:00* Has been a while since Star Allies. *00:00* him to have this kind of 3D adventure, it looks it looks neat. *00:00* Surprise. *00:00* But the idea of RPG elements could be kind of interesting in this open ish level structure. *00:00* At the same time, RPG elements is such a big catch-all phrase that it could be anything. *00:00* Gosh, it's going into its fifth year. *00:00* Gosh darn it, the game has now escaped me. *00:00* Another direct within a direct announcement. *00:00* Give us Brewster. *00:00* I'm kind of I hopefully the direct sheds some more light on future plans for this. *00:00* Sort of like they did with uh New Leaf plus I think the game was officially New Leaf plus Amiibo or Welcome Amiibo. *00:00* ish expansion. *00:00* Because they've got the front end is so packed between Smash, a new console, and Metroid. *00:00* The next kind of stretch here, uh, some Mario Golf new content drop today. *00:00* Coming to Switch, not the remake that PlayStation has secured some exclusivity to that they announced a couple weeks ago, but just a port of the original KOTOR coming to Switch in November. *00:00* It may be a tough game to go back to if you have not played it before. *00:00* Uh Star Wars game remasters, generally by Aspire, but they're gonna be tied up in the remake. *00:00* Yeah, I've I think this will be available pretty much anywhere that you'd want to buy and play it. *00:00* I digress. *00:00* Uh the second one was Dying Light and I was by myself doing this big open world game and I had no idea what I was doing. *00:00* I don't want to play Dying Light on the Switch at all. *00:00* Uh speaking of options for the audience. *00:00* Which is really cool. *00:00* uh launching on october eighth. *00:00* puts faith in the Metroid franchise, sales numbers talk, etc. *00:00* Metroid 2 on the Game Boy and then Zero Mission Infusion and be like and here are Metroid games that you can play now with Switch Online and um before *00:00* 2021 and the answer is yes. *00:00* For sure. *00:00* You know, maybe they do announce this Game Boy stuff later. *00:00* a win later and the pricing because it's joining it those games will only be included in a new more expensive tier of Nintendo Switch online called the expansion pack *00:00* really was a callback to the virtual console where they're like, not only do we have Nintendo's back catalog, but now we have the Genesis and the Master System. *00:00* Um for that sort of stuff. *00:00* the waters for you don't want to share it even in like a press release. *00:00* No, we're gonna save it and maybe bury it like on a on a Friday and just hope that no one's gonna notice. *00:00* Right? *00:00* It's not one that uh I find myself drawn to or excited about. *00:00* Is that Cali in a dress? *00:00* U I do want to say though that on the stream, watching it live, it looked, I thought, rough. *00:00* running really well. *00:00* I will happily say that it looks way better in a native like a direct video on YouTube and you have to also think that there's still YouTube compression in there. *00:00* I was thinking the same thing. *00:00* And it c it's currently says December 31st, 2022. *00:00* I could see this movie totally knocking it out of the park. *00:00* And I'm now realizing I have a typo in his name. *00:00* experience but Chris Pratt as Mario. *00:00* too far or like we're gonna hear enough unless he's like gonna put on a Bowser like voice, which uh okay I'm I'm here for. *00:00* I I just need a joke in there equating bananas to weed. *00:00* Toby Fox's delightful Deltarune trailer. *00:00* a lot of lately in the directs. *00:00* Um they made announcements of announcements, which I I think, you know, set them up for potentially more exciting news later down the line. *00:00* It's a it's a wide range of products and then you still have more things to come. *00:00* a composer or a musician from the soundtrack and then highlight the at least the top five critical tracks and then some other ones on the cutting room floor. *00:00* you know, the big names like Yokoshimomura or uh Koji Kondo. *00:00* creating this music and then I learned stuff about the games and the development all the time. *00:00* should be coming out here in just a few weeks, should start rolling those episodes out. *00:00* You had the feeling uh Nintendo generally seems to like to have a direct in September. *00:00* saying you should pay attention to this Nintendo direct. *00:00* Next summer. *00:00* The next the next game was uh the Disco Elysium Final Cut, uh, which had previously been announced but now has a date of October twelfth, a digitally on Switch, and then the physical edition is coming later, I want to say in twenty-two, through I am *00:00* And uh October 29th is the date for the second like story DLC chunk and stuff. *00:00* This is where it started picking up for me. *00:00* After this we're we're done. *00:00* leaves in the T to kind of read that, you know, something like this was probably going to happen. *00:00* It's interesting because as we talked at the top about announcing the direct and you know, typically it's the next day or two. *00:00* More realistically, I think almost the perfect balance would be Waluigi. *00:00* Just do it. *00:00* You know, uh for a while I've been saying like Crash Bandicoot could be very likely, but with the Activision Blizzard stuff, again, I don't know if *00:00* upfront. *00:00* Or there'll be a game of the year. *00:00* Who knows? *00:00* Kirby in a fully 3D space because uh as far as I recall, that hasn't truly happened. *00:00* was sorta close, but again, that was linear and just 3D character models and stuff. *00:00* More needs to be seen. *00:00* I'm the same way with uh New Horizons. *00:00* She would notice in these communities that she's a part of people complaining about where is new content, like this is the same stuff we were doing. *00:00* Yeah, once it felt it rolled over to into the new year, it felt like it was, you know, not getting many substantial updates. *00:00* had never I guess it's funny, like yeah, Super Mario Bros. *00:00* Anything special. *00:00* I've never played Kotor. *00:00* Again, I I re I work for them, but not anywhere near any of this stuff. *00:00* So, I mean, that would be really cool uh to see. *00:00* their games work on Switch even if it's through the cloud. *00:00* But you know, we'll see if that ever comes. *00:00* coming out so soon. *00:00* Speaking of horrifying yes. *00:00* I am really hopeful that it can be a game of the year contender. *00:00* dread and just stuff like that. *00:00* that Game Boy games were coming to Nintendo Switch online where all these reports and so I had actually between the corroboration and Metroid coming out, I was kind of like, maybe they will put out *00:00* higher costs to it, to it get those games involved. *00:00* Yeah. *00:00* When they went and played that game to represent Dr. *00:00* presentation that part of Nintendo Switch Online, like its game capabilities, is online multiplayer. *00:00* in a rich kind of accessible way, hopefully. *00:00* Banjo Kazooie. *00:00* Yeah. *00:00* Very enticing. *00:00* But it's a very exciting um curious to learn more, I guess. *00:00* which was also available in the Castlevania collection normally, I think. *00:00* And clearly shows that they had planned for that from the beginning. *00:00* uh a game that I thought was most likely like it's time to show Splatoon 3 gameplay and they did uh reiterated a 2022 date *00:00* Great for them, um, but it's not a game I'm super excited about, but I I admire the dedication and then also the fans that are like *00:00* in twenty seventeen, uh like f four and a half years ago or you know. *00:00* Uh Platinum knows what they're doing with Bayonetta. *00:00* game I pre-ordered on Amazon back when they did like pre-order game and get was it 10 or 20? *00:00* And really shows kind of how stacked 22 is for the Switch. *00:00* And Mario's holding the this gun that he has. *00:00* actress really knows how to crush it. *00:00* Okay. *00:00* Um Toad is being voiced by Keegan Michael Key. *00:00* is getting the people in. *00:00* I I feel like it's going to be a similar internet moment to the first Sonic the Hedgehog trailer. *00:00* animation style that they've kind of honed with minions and sing and all that they do. *00:00* No, we need more time to process this. *00:00* you know, in the world in media and entertainment. *00:00* It is uh the internet has been very good to me. *00:00* I think it's a B plus direct, honestly. *00:00* Really curious when that more powerful revision's coming down the line like that I have to assume that they're taking this *00:00* strategy of the the DS and the 3DS where it was, you know, DS, Excel, 2DS, and then the new and more powerful, and just keep this console going for as *00:00* long as they would like. *00:00* powerful library. *00:00* Which I've done, like uh Wind Waker. *00:00* But it was just when they opened the show, I got a little nervous. *00:00* Every direct. *00:00* the franchise finally in a meaningful way. *00:00* more people I think play together and buy it and be you know, the especially n not that we'll be in quarantine for *00:00* Which was a game that it's like I feel like I'd I'd heard about it. *00:00* Years to come. *00:00* Did not necessarily make it all that canon. *00:00* It actually would be what I would think a Sonic racing game would be like, was be Sonic running, but Sonic's actually the one in the car and the Chocobo's the one running with rocket-powered roller skates. *00:00* Having the DLC character anywhere in this direct, especially it being the last one, overshadows everything else. *00:00* the like the the pipe dream to to take something from you, you know, my Kiefer style prediction or dream or hope would be Goku. *00:00* Halo's T and a bit more cartoony. *00:00* There was some setup to that with the ballot, right? *00:00* So if you went third party, I think then you get more potential to make that big splash, that big final announcement. *00:00* Could you have maybe you're setting up the marketing for yourself with all the eyes on you and then you do that? *00:00* open exploration within the space, we'll f we'll find out later, but there's a new Kirby game. *00:00* I think when you were seeing different people speculate on what Nintendo could announce and they're saying, oh, a Kirby game, uh, maybe a 3D Kirby game, and it's like, oh yeah, it *00:00* thinks about it and like wants to play. *00:00* This uh who is this Twitter user back in June or July? *00:00* Uh Marco Marrow on Twitter, and I'll I'll link to the story in the show notes, but he kind of just did a whole Twitter thread back then uh of different leaks and Nintendo stuff that he *00:00* predict or guess or or quote leak that part like new Kirby game is coming to switch. *00:00* a level that Animal Crossing had never been at before, I think due in part to the pandemic and everyone staying home. *00:00* S I'm I'm well, Abby's very excited, and so I'm excited for her. *00:00* I personally don't. *00:00* He um he was so excited. *00:00* Coming in, just like Octopath Traveler, there's dropping the word project, and the game is called Triangle Strategy. *00:00* house build. *00:00* I was trying to get the the collector's edition and the amiibo and like an amateur I had the amiibo in the cart, but Best Buy didn't have the Collector's Edition up and so I didn't order the amiibo when I should have. *00:00* Long story short, I now have a copy from Amazon Japan that is shipping here. *00:00* There's a new Metroid game out in a couple of weeks, and I've intentionally seen very little of it. *00:00* coming into this direct, especially from a few weeks ago where some reports were corroborated from places like Eurogamer and I want to say VGC. *00:00* charge a bit more of a premium for it. *00:00* But the games, which are very, very important, uh pretty strong, albeit small, launch lineup. *00:00* gonna hit a stride and definitely draw people into the subscription and especially now you know the higher subscription tier. *00:00* giving people access who have subscribed to the original is like a total just sweet and people will be taking *00:00* This opens such like there's so much potential behind this banjo Kazooie door. *00:00* So I would love it if Donkey Kong 64 came. *00:00* consoles technically, you know, just like the virtual console did on the Wii. *00:00* the whole virtual console essentially, but in, you know, not the palm of your hand, but in, you know, on your Switch, that would be *00:00* Very cool. *00:00* Also Actraiser. *00:00* So it looks like more Splatoon, which I love very, very much. *00:00* way more open from what I could gather. *00:00* Uh I you know bless Splatoon in general as a game that is unabashedly wacky about its lore and what it tries to build for itself. *00:00* video that Nintendo uploaded later before the show to kind of just, you know, look it over one more time and get kind of a taste for it. *00:00* monsters in Shibuya, like what is there anything happening with like the angel witch confrontation? *00:00* Now that all that's left is Metroid Prime 4. *00:00* Uh I'm looking up the order now just because I want to know when I did it. *00:00* movie time, which I think is perfect for, you know, that kind of movie and animated children's film, video game style, and definitely after Sonic the Hedgehog. *00:00* Instead, he's just gonna make some cameos in the film. *00:00* Luigi is none other than Charlie Day. *00:00* Donkey Kong is Seth Rogan. *00:00* But um, you know, it'll it'll be odd to hear speaking actors coming out of these characters' mouths. *00:00* Is great in this movie also with Universal. *00:00* Jack Black at Jimmy Powell's Tonight Show is a classic clip on its own, but uh yeah, to throw in a Bowser mix in there, that's amazing. *00:00* show why players should continue to come back and play some games on Switch as opposed to these newer machines from their competitors. *00:00* I learned so much every time that I've just fun facts and trivia about the composers and musicians behind these soundtracks. *00:00* I really appreciate that. *00:00* Almost three years we've done the show. *00:00* immediacy and getting people very excited in a short period of time and just talking about it. *00:00* Um Hi Hyrule Royers DLC number two. *00:00* Sure if I'd like maybe I'd like it. *00:00* Even if it's a first party character, which it very likely could be, I would not be surprised to see a first party character in some capacity. *00:00* And then yeah, you start weighing it out of was this character worth the pump and circumstance of Yeah, it makes all the marking sense in the world to set aside your day, your smash day for the final reveal. *00:00* Because uh I haven't even unlocked all the characters in Smash because every time I play, it's at someone else's house and they already have everything or they bought the DLC. *00:00* There is like a strange feeling that this is the end for now. *00:00* That's kind of the impression it gives me just watching the the footage here. *00:00* Zero dawn. *00:00* My friends joked that my boss was on the direct. *00:00* I mean it's it's cool to see developers so willing to make *00:00* It is it it's fascinating just to see big games at launch or near launch come. *00:00* And Sega Genesis. *00:00* That technically could limit six-button game. *00:00* So sometime in October, more expensive tier, what could that even be? *00:00* On the NES and SNES, like the multiplayer kind of was like, alright, yeah, sure. *00:00* Never would I have thought uh before new Pokemon Snap, like that they would acknowledge this game's existence. *00:00* At least being talked about or mentioned, so that's really exciting to see. *00:00* It is promising for that. *00:00* Okay. *00:00* Yeah, that's that's some good titles for sure. *00:00* uh accessible. *00:00* More announcements in October. *00:00* There may have been some question about you know when the trailer began, but once the music kicks in, it's like, oh, that's that's Splatoon music. *00:00* It's just the gift that keeps on giving. *00:00* Jack Black. *00:00* I could see Fred Armison as cranky, but I do not know uh Sebastian Menescalko. *00:00* A lot of preparation and adjustment to get used to. *00:00* But it just it was a very weird spot in the show and it was very funny. *00:00* How did you feel about it? *00:00* Here's a 3D Kirby game. *00:00* Yeah, the premise and the concept of the Switch is still so very strong, but you're right, as we get into these now current gen, but the next gen machines for Sony and Microsoft. *00:00* It's a good time to be a gamer. *00:00* So they open up with this CG uh trailer that at first was like, oh my gosh, is this Smash? *00:00* That actually makes me feel a little bit better about not having it. *00:00* So moving on. *00:00* A lot of the way Abby put it was a lot of people she interprets as have never playing Animal Crossing before because New Horizons is just reached *00:00* fueled by nostalgia, which is a very powerful powerful thing. *00:00* Getting Star Wars exclusivity out of EA per se and starting to bring it out and kind of flesh some things out, I think they're just *00:00* Weird? *00:00* Then another cloud-based game in the vein of Hitman 3 or Control. *00:00* Metro Dread, they showed another trailer. *00:00* I mean it's been almost twenty years since we've had what was Metroid 4 with Fusion, and especially for it to be considered a a numbered part of the series. *00:00* This is gonna be cool, I think. *00:00* There really is a lot of potential. *00:00* I want to skip ahead really quick to the the last two games that they talked about. *00:00* The Switch is definitely in its kind of midlife prime kind of peak point. *00:00* Kind of getting into their flow. *00:00* the stark tech difference has never been more apparent. *00:00* Which I think is a much better title than Kirby and the Forgotten Land. *00:00* the d the community surrounding dying light and the excitement for dying light too. *00:00* Really cool, but also horrifying that I have lost all grap grab uh grasp of time *00:00* Uh who knows what's Animal Crossing? *00:02* And again, this is another 22 game. *00:02* I really enjoyed it, especially during the pandemic. *00:02* And I've I've been a part of that for a while. *00:02* This is this is Nintendo Nintendo Wii style energy here and I'm I'm here for it. *00:02* m. *00:02* Like the direct started piquing my interest personally. *00:02* Holy smokes. *00:02* So yeah, they're a playable character, there are a couple new courses. *00:02* I mean there has to be. *00:02* But this is not where I want to play Dying Light to. *00:02* Uh did you are you are you picking this up? *00:02* So Pokemon Stadium, there's Pokemon Stadium 2 potential, online multiplayer with those games. *00:02* Renaissance. *00:02* I've played, you know, probably maybe half of the first one. *00:02* Um she's gonna bring a lot of awesomeness to Princess Peach, I'm sure. *00:02* Oh my gosh. *00:02* They've just only been able to try different types of games with Kirby and uh for *00:02* Who who knew Kirby would be in a post apocalyptic game? *00:02* My brother, who got you know big into Mass Effect, uh wanted to check it out because it was a previous Bioware game, and he noted how it was tough *00:02* He's just like, yes, Kotor's back. *00:02* Uh, 'cause we'll see another one with uh Guardians of the Galaxy. *00:02* Yeah, that's the big one, isn't it? *00:02* I think a lot of people are gonna wanna buy it and try it. *00:02* At the same time, though, Microsoft does get to say that, well, we have the superior version of the game on our system, on our platform from our eyes. *00:02* Musha, Fantasy Star IV, uh what is that? *00:02* But man, there's one. *00:02* And because the switch is in year going into year five, it's just like it is firing on all cylinders. *00:02* Like right. *00:02* And we'll we'll get to that, but people were like Sora, Master Chief *00:02* Which is we weird to think about. *00:02* Um, but good for those that do want to play. *00:02* Uh t s I thought that game was gonna be in like cooking a little longer, so it's really nice to see it *00:02* Did you play the demo at all? *00:02* And speaking of potential, I kind of wanted to talk about some of the more interesting games on this list, especially the ones coming out in the future. *00:02* If they could all come together and go give the people what they want and put Goldeneye on here with online multiplayer. *00:02* Like they switch has got a big year ahead of it next year. *00:02* So Jack Black is Bowser. *00:02* Uh, you know, Animal Crossing. *00:02* And so I guess they moved uh a deadline for it from like March 2022 up to *00:02* Eastern time is about a time that they uh would announce it and sure enough got lucky on uh guessing that one. *00:02* It was more exciting to see like the Switch Online and the Castlevania stuff, so more toward the end of the direct. *00:02* So keep milking it. *00:02* I don't know. *00:02* And it looks like a full-ish 3D game. *00:02* What's the new one called where it's out in West? *00:02* And you know, they listened, they delivered. *00:02* Yeah. *00:02* So I I think they get to have it both ways for themselves. *00:02* Yeah. *00:02* They uh there's a scene in Always Sunny where um it's not Charlie. *00:02* I think they yeah, like I said, they kinda hit all of the different notes that they needed to *00:02* Just like I'm good. *00:02* So I'm really I'm really stoked to see that be included here. *00:02* And uh I'm super excited, honestly, you know, got hyped to hear that Fillmore track. *00:02* And I'm like, yeah, you go nuts about that. *00:02* They're gonna make that game look good. *00:02* She's got braids. *00:02* Anya Taylorjoy is Princess Peach. *00:02* Yeah, ah, I forgot about that. *00:02* Oh my god It just gets better and better *00:02* Yeah, ultimate plus. *00:03* Seven months ago. *00:03* So because they basically announced that N64 and Genesis were coming in October, uh, but that they would announce *00:03* Like it It w is definitely in the slot of the show where it was like kind of the last *00:03* I mean, he is a top top dog, and he is dealing with the future *00:03* So I I think it's it's a solid offering. *00:03* We talk about video game soundtracks and generally bringing two to the show each week. *00:03* Wow. *00:03* Then they showed off this game called Voice of Cards, and then there was a subtitle that I didn't write down. *00:03* Seemed it looked like a dungeon crawler where you go over like the backs of cards, but then they may have a random *00:03* But that also is coming out this October, actually a day before Mario Party on October 28th. *00:03* It gives that Switch some of this near-term future kind of games to look at as well as the rest of the holidays. *00:03* Um there was a Disney game. *00:03* Although I hope it's not like what has been happening lately with any SP Super Nintendo where a lot of the releases are people just like, why do you even bother? *00:03* Um but the apparently reported to just be called Mario, so Mario is coming to theaters in the United States December twenty first, twenty twenty two, so it's hitting that Christmas. *00:03* Oh yeah. *00:03* It was definitely entertaining. *00:03* He's talking about Finding Paradise, which is the game from Kan Gao, who uh is basically the second to the moon game. *00:03* Like Twitter went down when Steve was revealed. *00:03* Interesting to note though that with the sorry, last thing about this Kirby game. *00:03* Well, you know, for fifty dollars a pop to be wireless, I mean that's robbery, but you know, oh yeah, there's gonna be a market for that. *00:03* Mario, she, as far as she remembers, Dr. *00:03* But overall I think it was a really good direct just kind of checking off what a lot of people thought was gonna be covered here. *00:03* I think Logan said it best. *00:03* Playing off is a very good time. *00:03* If it's one to two days, I think you're kind of kind of capturing that Zeitgeist. *00:03* And then of course they can pre-order it right away as well, which probably helps sales in some capacity if folks like the demo. *00:03* Whatever it is, I'm gonna be happy even if it's a character I don't care about. *00:03* Interesting to note about a leak to say RPG elements. *00:03* I wish I had uh, you know, numerical figures or at least some evidence to back up like are these cloud versions really worth *00:03* I yeah. *00:03* Always study in Philadelphia. *00:03* You know, Sony's got a pretty strong 22 if they can keep their dates lined up, but we don't really know a lot about their future. *00:03* Bam. *00:03* It's always just fun way to drum up some hype and see what they've got cooking. *00:03* There's there's something to that. *00:03* Oh my god. *00:03* I, you know, what what are you gonna do? *00:03* They could say, well, you know, our competitors, you know, for PlayStation Plus at 60, you know, for what Xbox is doing with Game Pass. *00:03* That would be great. *00:03* Ah man, I'm really I just if I could get Banjo Tui, I'll be set, but man *00:03* Um I mean, if you're listening to this, you probably already know it. *00:03* You can check out Chasing the Stick, uh chasing the stick. *00:03* Could you have shuffled another character around? *00:03* But one of them was about Kirby's next game and he they simply tweeted, um, Kirby's next big adventure is something to be expected in twenty-two. *00:03* Who knows? *00:03* But no, it's it's good and it's smart because, you know, that seems to be where Switch is at least the test bed or at least a place where a lot of these *00:03* The unfortunate thing is that I think it's gonna be a a bad news hit because why do you not mention it here? *00:03* Mario in their chronology of Super Smash Bros. *00:03* Um also exciting to see them tapping into franchises that they've ignored for years like F Zero X and Star Fox. *00:03* They've remastered remade Actrazer. *00:03* He goes, I'm here to talk about the Mario movie. *00:03* Like what is what I'll put it in the show notes. *00:03* Yeah. *00:03* But uh you're hitting you know big updates or announcements uh with you know Monster Hunter Rise, which a lot of people love to play. *00:03* Okay. *00:03* Um I saw that the at least in the Japanese direct they announced today. *00:03* In a for holiday time, just like here's Smash Ultimate *00:03* Um wow. *00:03* The real question was would Nintendo uh reproduce and sell Nintendo sixty four controllers in the year *00:03* I mean, I guess they could sell the six-button controller later and make even more money. *00:03* I'm curious what the support for Genesis is gonna look like. *00:03* Would never have guessed his deep register for Kamic, but okay. *00:03* But all in all, that was the direct. *00:03* I probably got 45 minutes into it, and it's a lot of reading. *00:03* Who knows? *00:03* Uh, a Animal Crossing direct is coming in October with new game content launching as soon as November. *00:03* Cool. *00:03* Um, which is fun. *00:03* Uh it's great to see it. *00:03* I'm like, oh, okay, it's it's Monster Hunter. *00:03* Yeah. *00:03* The next announcement was accidentally *00:03* I think they're even in paperwork. *00:03* etc. *00:03* And then you gotta talk about how Nintendo's gotta start having better online servers for multiplayer games and things like that. *00:03* So keeping people aware of series and franchises and letting them play. *00:03* It kinda did. *00:03* I mean the memes already have just been out of control. *00:03* Yeah, it's good stuff. *00:03* So Metro Dread was up next. *00:03* Uh it's definitely a blind spot in my kind of like gaming catalog or experience. *00:03* Is this game like coming out this year? *00:03* It was just like a side-by-side image. *00:03* Oh yeah. *00:03* I think when people say that the internet will be disappointed no matter what, I think there's some merit. *00:03* And what would that that would be? *00:03* Um especially with the Switch OLED coming out also in October. *00:03* Uh but the multiplayer just looks like wackier, wilder Splatoon. *00:03* And more demos, please. *00:03* I can live with that. *00:03* I don't know, yeah. *00:03* I think that speaks to the demand for games on Switch, which is good for Nintendo and and good for consumers because it gives them more options to play. *00:03* I don't I'm not familiar with Winback. *00:03* Um Curious the scope of the single player looks *00:03* They are diversifying they own some of the most iconic characters *00:03* And then I will be talking about a game that uh actually has ties to you. *00:03* Yes. *00:03* So Yeah, they say that and then like you do have yeah quite a few titles that kind of stretch beyond that. *00:04* So I think this made perfect sense and an interesting way to start the show. *00:04* So Yeah, it's and there's a demo out uh today, which *00:04* Even if you went something like in the direction of uh Akira Howard from Astral Chain. *00:04* I think at least I'd like to give it a a rental shot for sure. *00:04* Um and then Super Mario World. *00:04* There's the VR games that they've been doing. *00:04* etc. *00:04* I think that's hopeful too. *00:04* Uh the other game system they announced, the Genesis, which was *00:04* It's got four games in it. *00:04* And I feel like that's another point where I think you kinda have to read the Twitter tea leaves. *00:04* For sure. *00:04* But I think having it in Mario Party is the right call. *00:04* I was getting big uh near automata vibes with like the *00:04* 2 the technically the Game Boy Advance version was like the first Mario game I ever played. *00:04* And you know, when they're talking about bringing in some of the heavy hitters like they plan to, especially when you're talking to other companies to get licensing rights and things like that. *00:04* And those actually those two games, Castlevania and Actraiser, um, and the next game, which is Deltarune Chapter Two *00:04* Um but I would assume based off some sort of contractual agreement with Nintendo to reveal it in the direct *00:04* So you're a squid and a kid and a mammal now. *00:04* So I'm not actually very worried about this game's performance or running now after initial impressions. *00:04* Sadness. *00:04* Um, but this just kept getting better and better as it went on. *00:04* And then Miyamoto shows up and drops this bomb on us, and then we're like, Alright, on to our next game, and it's Splatoon 3, and everyone's just like *00:04* And to have a theme park, you know, in Japan and here in the United States and Florida. *00:04* I'm your host, Max Roberts. *00:04* I'm you know, I'm sure there are people out there that are like, uh well did this happen and so therefore I mean my take on it was the things that happened uh in that story. *00:04* Who is Ninji? *00:04* It oh my goodness gracious. *00:04* Shadowrun. *00:04* That's it. *00:04* Uh audios. *00:04* It's mostly environments and Kirby sucking people up or characters up for powers. *00:04* And I'm curious if Sony could again nab some exclusivity there. *00:04* And when you think they're gonna zag, they don't zig, they they go a diff they go a completely different way. *00:04* But to move it along, uh Shadow Run trilogy, I've never heard of this in my life. *00:04* This is clearly struggling. *00:04* It's probably gonna be a new character for this game specifically, but *00:04* A similar gun and a similar pose to the movie poster *00:04* Like on the n on the indie front, I mean there is rumors that, you know, maybe we'll get a Hollow Knight silk song date today and that didn't happen, but that's *00:04* Yeah, they're mil they're milking it. *00:04* So I think this was a very smart move to do, especially with it being the last one. *00:04* Like depending on what you thought of Steve being revealed at the time's big *00:04* Or are you in did you play Octopath Traveler? *00:04* Yeah, I'm whew very, very hopeful. *00:04* When you like Sonic Three and Knuckles the most, yes, but you got a whole bunch of licensing rights tied up with that, especially with the music. *00:04* And Nintendo decided to show it today. *00:04* Although that little shot of Zelda on the motorbike, that uh got a good chuckle out of me. *00:04* It's called Chocobo Racing. *00:04* Uh I write technical manuals. *00:04* It's is it's cool to see it come back and I'm happy for those folks. *00:04* And it's cool that they can get it running on there, just like The Witcher 3 runs natively. *00:04* This is the one part of the direct I did not watch *00:04* It's weird to see Dr. *00:04* Um, yeah, we'll see. *00:04* Obviously the games the switches on a high. *00:04* And then when you don't see it in the recent WarioWare game, like it feels *00:04* But at the same time, if you're like Square Enix and you actually use the demo to *00:04* Kind of filling somewhat of a void with no new Mario Kart game. *00:04* They had the first DLC character reveal there with Joker, and that was a great moment. *00:04* And honestly, for Sakurai's sake, I hope it really is his last. *00:04* I wrote about it in July, but I remember it was weeks before. *00:04* Um Cool that the game's coming out. *00:04* What do you think of them? *00:06* Yeah, they they've seemed to be really good about that, especially with their sports games. *00:06* Um a one-year turnaround from announcement. *00:06* I'm definitely excited for it. *00:06* But I think now with new Pokemon Snap *00:06* The movie casts something, and I think that you end *00:06* It was due, right?
