Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Max Frequency Podcast.
*00:00*
I am your host, Max Roberts, and I have the distinct pleasure of being joined by my buddy Logan Moore.
*00:03*
For the eighth time, we come together
*00:09*
to predict the summer Keeleys, the E I can't it's E3 is truly dead.
*00:13*
True.
*00:21*
This is like the first year we can actually say that it's actually really dead.
*00:22*
It's like that's the saddest part of all.
*00:25*
It's the it's dead as a doornail.
*00:27*
Logan Moore, hello.
*00:30*
How are you?
*00:31*
Um I'm feeling uh like I've got some podcast rust here that I'm trying to to figure out and work through.
*00:32*
Um which is weird because I host a weekly show again now
*00:39*
Which is something that I haven't done in a long time, but I'm still trying to get back in the flow of podcasting.
*00:43*
But other than that, I'm good.
*00:50*
Well, you know, you and I haven't recorded a show, I want to say, since January.
*00:51*
We've taken a little bit of a break together from Chapter Select.
*00:55*
We'll talk about that.
*00:59*
But also you just got off of a week-long vacation, aka a honeymoon.
*01:00*
Because you got married.
*01:05*
Welcome to the club.
*01:07*
I did.
*01:08*
Thank you.
*01:09*
It's been a whirlwind.
*01:10*
I'm I'm glad that I don't have to plan a wedding any longer, but um
*01:12*
There's the whole part where I have to now move the rest of my stuff into where I'm living now, and then I have to set it all up again.
*01:18*
And so I I'm just wondering if there's going to be come a point in time where
*01:27*
Things will actually slow down to some degree.
*01:32*
They do they do eventually.
*01:35*
And be thankful at least you're just moving one person's things instead of an entire family's.
*01:36*
True.
*01:42*
Because I don't have that much, to be honest.
*01:43*
That was that was what made our move last year so difficult, was it was not just my stuff.
*01:45*
It was Abby's and Eloise's and
*01:51*
And then my parents move next door is a whole thing.
*01:53*
It's a lot of stuff.
*01:56*
So the thing it the thing is with where I'm moving, so my wife now I can say
*01:57*
So she bought this plate she bought this house that we're living in last year.
*02:02*
But when she moved into it, she didn't really do a full
*02:06*
Like she fully moved into it obviously, but there's a lot of like other stuff that she had like in storage or whatever that she tucked away.
*02:10*
Yeah, we've sort of not unfinished the unpacking process of that move from last year.
*02:18*
We threw a lot of boxes full of unnecessary things in the garage and they have just been sitting there.
*02:22*
And so before I moved in here, it it became apparent that we need to go through these boxes now and unpack these things or get rid of them or donate them.
*02:28*
A lot of them have gone a lot of what was in them have gone to goodwill.
*02:38*
Um
*02:41*
But yeah, so that's what we've been doing on top of not only moving me but trying to make space for all of my belongings.
*02:42*
What was once her walk-in closet.
*02:50*
Yes, the video games were the first thing to come up here.
*02:53*
Surprisingly
*02:55*
Surprisingly, the Jordans are not nowhere to be found in this home yet.
*02:57*
They are still across town.
*03:03*
That's actually that's truly the crazy thing.
*03:04*
What is it?
*03:07*
It is
*03:08*
The other day I was almost about to go to the office and I was like, I don't have a pair of sneakers to wear to the office to find out.
*03:08*
Like I do
*03:15*
I do.
*03:16*
I I've been just kind of rocking crocs a lot lately.
*03:17*
Oh my god.
*03:20*
I'm I'm truly embracing the the the dad lifestyle over here.
*03:21*
So I I wore crocs when I was like twelve and I was made fun of for wearing them.
*03:26*
You know.
*03:32*
Now everyone's got crocs
*03:32*
It's weird, it's definitely come full circle.
*03:34*
Because I remember thinking that too back when we were around that age, I'm like, crocs are lame, who the heck would want crocs?
*03:36*
And now I have like it's I wear them by default all the time.
*03:42*
Yeah, they're they're good go-tos.
*03:47*
I uh I hope for you that someday soon you'll have the that Mrs.
*03:49*
Incredible moment where you finally have finished unpacking the f
*03:55*
Final box.
*03:59*
I'm calling to celebrate a momentous occasion.
*04:00*
We are now officially moved in.
*04:03*
Yeah, well that's great, honey.
*04:05*
And the last three years don't count because Because I finally unpacked the last box.
*04:07*
Now it's official.
*04:12*
Ha ha ha.
*04:13*
I I hope so.
*04:14*
I I actually think of that as specific moment from that movie a lot too.
*04:15*
Uh Help House doesn't blow up at the end of it.
*04:19*
That would be not ideal, but you know uh I don't know.
*04:24*
Depends on how much money we'd get back in in in the insurance and if no one would die, then you know, maybe.
*04:29*
But it probably wouldn't it probably wouldn't play.
*04:35*
I don't I don't think I could claim the ten to fifteen thousand dollars worth of video games that I have and get the insurance money back for for those properly.
*04:37*
So I don't know.
*04:45*
It's probably a loss.
*04:45*
If your policy covers it, I don't know.
*04:47*
You might find out.
*04:48*
Who knows?
*04:49*
You just gotta document everything you have.
*04:49*
You just have to make sure you know what's in your collection.
*04:51*
That's true.
*04:54*
I actually I have done that.
*04:55*
So it's obvious.
*04:56*
Maybe maybe maybe we could submit that claim.
*04:58*
I believe in it.
*05:01*
Please please please don't blow up this house.
*05:02*
Please don't blow it up.
*05:04*
And don't move soon, because that then you'll really feel it.
*05:05*
That is the one nice thing is that I have been moving so much the past.
*05:09*
six or seven years or not so much.
*05:15*
I guess I've made three or four different moves over that span of time.
*05:17*
Four.
*05:22*
Yeah.
*05:22*
It would have been would have been to the apartment with Grant, then your brother, then back to your parents, and then to Nashville.
*05:23*
Yeah, and then now to here.
*05:29*
So like this seems like the last one.
*05:31*
And so that's a relief.
*05:34*
Yeah.
*05:37*
Um good.
*05:38*
But yeah.
*05:40*
I mean we've obviously Yeah, so hopefully hopefully that's that's the end of that.
*05:41*
And I and I shoot all future podcasts from this current viewpoint that you see me sitting at here.
*05:47*
So it just becomes the this just becomes the de facto room that I record in until I'm old and gray.
*05:53*
One would hope.
*06:00*
One would hope
*06:02*
Before we get into our annual predictions and all that jazz, I did want to do a little PSA, a little public service announcement for chapter select.
*06:06*
Yes, we are still working on the show.
*06:16*
But Logan and I have taken like a summer vacation of video games.
*06:19*
We did play what we did we played Metroid Prime, remastered.
*06:23*
That episode's in the bag.
*06:27*
We've played Castlevania One, that episode is also in the bag.
*06:29*
Uh, but then we were like, what if we played other video games?
*06:33*
And that's been really nice.
*06:38*
It has been.
*06:39*
You've been you've poured you got the platinum in MLB the show, correct?
*06:40*
Yeah, I did.
*06:45*
I think that explains the amount of time.
*06:47*
I've played a lot of live service games, which is really what's r probably the most strange.
*06:48*
Like I have gone back and played other things in my backlog, like Elden Ring's been the most
*06:53*
prominent thing I've gone back and finally played.
*06:57*
But yeah, I'm playing hundreds of hours of Fortnite and MLB the show this year.
*06:59*
it's bizarre.
*07:05*
But I've also enjoyed it.
*07:06*
That's you know, that's not terrible.
*07:08*
I'm really happy that you've gone back and played Elden Ring.
*07:09*
I know how much you like souls, like that just felt
*07:13*
I've been wanting you to play that for so long.
*07:17*
I will say I'm at like a sorry to cut in, but I'm at like a weird point in that game now where I could
*07:20*
feasibly beat it pretty soon, but I'm pretty sure once you beat it in order to then like start a new new game or whatever, you have to like go to
*07:26*
I I I don't know, maybe you can make a save right before the final boss or whatever.
*07:36*
I don't know how the in-game stuff works, so maybe I'm wrong with this.
*07:39*
Basically, what I'm saying is the DLC comes out in like two or three weeks, and so I'm like, maybe I just table
*07:42*
All of the like final five to ten hours of stuff in this game, put it on hold, dive into the DLC content, play that, and then go back and do the actual ending of the game.
*07:49*
But then I feel like I'll be so overtuned.
*07:59*
For the internet.
*08:01*
I don't know.
*08:02*
It doesn't really matter, but Yeah, that's an interesting problem.
*08:03*
It's not like you can't play the DLC after you beat the boss?
*08:07*
So the DLC is not
*08:11*
So my fear basically is that I know I uh in the DLC you have to beat one of the specific bosses in order to then access the content that is going to be part of the DLC.
*08:13*
And the boss that you have to beat is like one of the final ones in the game.
*08:23*
So I'm afraid if I start if I beat the game then I start like new game plus or something like that, which is something I kind of want to do, then that all of a sudden starts the whole process over of it's like, oh wait, I can't
*08:27*
now access the DLC unless there's like multiple save files and stuff like that, which I feel like there might be.
*08:38*
I would think there is.
*08:44*
It can't be a Breath of the Wild situation where you would manually make the save files in the game though.
*08:46*
That's the
*08:51*
thing.
*08:52*
Come on.
*08:53*
Come on from software.
*08:54*
So I'm not exactly sure how it all works.
*08:55*
I mean you can like do some you can do some like save tricks with it.
*08:57*
Yeah.
*09:01*
You can like back it up to the to the PlayStation Cloud or whatever.
*09:01*
and you can re-download your saves and trick in that way.
*09:05*
So there are ways.
*09:08*
But I think at this point I am just gonna hold off and
*09:10*
just segue this long playthrough I've had into the DLC content, do that, and then we'll go back and we'll beat the game proper after I beat all the DLC stuff.
*09:15*
Because that will probably stretch this into a
*09:24*
140 or 150 hour playthrough of this game.
*09:30*
So that's a lot of time.
*09:33*
It still is like it still is giving me those, you know, surprises where I'm like, where am I?
*09:34*
Like I'll just show up somewhere like
*09:40*
Like, how did I get here?
*09:43*
What is going on?
*09:44*
Because there's like these like teleporter things in the game.
*09:45*
Yeah.
*09:47*
There's elevators.
*09:48*
Yeah.
*09:49*
Yes.
*09:50*
It sounds like a crazy game.
*09:50*
I I played the most max games possible called The Last of Us Part One and The Last of Us Part Two Remastered.
*09:53*
Platted those.
*10:00*
Those are some max
*10:01*
games for sure.
*10:03*
Yeah, and it was a perfect back-to-back because I timed my part one playthrough right before part two's uh remastered launch on PS5.
*10:04*
So that felt really good to play through those games yet again.
*10:11*
Um
*10:15*
And then I finally, finally, finally played uh the Great Ace Attorney 2 Resolve and uh beat that.
*10:16*
You haven't been playing those.
*10:23*
I know you've been talking about those to us a lot lately.
*10:24*
Yes.
*10:27*
Uh those so the great ace attorney games are are truly a duology.
*10:28*
They it's almost like uh
*10:33*
You know how the Daniel Craig, Casino Royale, and Quantum of Solace are essentially the same movie?
*10:36*
Like they they pick up right where each other left off.
*10:41*
It's kinda like that.
*10:45*
Like the great ace attorney games, the ones where you're
*10:46*
in ye old England.
*10:49*
There it's essentially one game, not two separate games.
*10:52*
But I did take a year break between them, so there was like a little bit of catching up in the middle, but the way the overarching
*10:56*
narrative builds is immaculate.
*11:03*
So that that game was great.
*11:05*
And so now I've only not played I guess three Ace Attorney games.
*11:08*
I have not played five and six, which were the three D S ones, which are now
*11:13*
on the modern consoles.
*11:17*
And then I have yet to play the investigations game, which is like the third person-y point-click game.
*11:19*
That's like one of the like spin-off games.
*11:26*
It's also one of the most expensive.
*11:28*
But I got Christmas last year.
*11:30*
So was that your gift to yourself?
*11:32*
Pretty much, yeah.
*11:36*
I had some cash and I saw this really clean copy at the store and was like
*11:37*
I gotta do it.
*11:41*
I just gotta I gotta get this because it was the last one I needed to have all of the DS games.
*11:42*
Which one is it?
*11:49*
Miles Edgeworth, Ace Attorney Miles Edgeworth investigations.
*11:50*
And so that game has a sequel that came out only in Japan, a lot like The Great Ace Attorney, which was only in Japan until they translated it.
*11:55*
So fans are kinda hoping now that everything is
*12:05*
Ported to modern hardware and has been translated, like investigations is technically all that's left.
*12:09*
So some people are hoping that
*12:16*
that will happen.
*12:18*
Some people are just hoping that, you know, Ace Attorney 7 will finally come to pass.
*12:19*
I'm fine with whatever.
*12:24*
Just more Ace Attorney.
*12:26*
When was the last one of those games made?
*12:27*
I mean it's like the new one?
*12:28*
The last new did they release one on Switch or was it the last one for the last one would have been three D would have been the Great Ace Attorney.
*12:30*
Those were the most modern like
*12:38*
current releases.
*12:40*
The last Phoenix Wright game was six on the 3DS.
*12:41*
Um and then since then they have been porting trilogies essentially.
*12:46*
Chill trilogies and duologies.
*12:51*
So
*12:53*
So it is uh it's good to finally have those.
*12:53*
And then also uh I just beat Federation Force, which obviously we'll talk about on its own episode, but I finally got through that.
*12:57*
So that's all I'll say about that.
*13:05*
I stayed up last night playing it for a little bit.
*13:08*
So hopefully I'll meet you there and we'll record that episode.
*13:11*
Soon ish.
*13:16*
Yes.
*13:18*
That's that's next on the docket.
*13:18*
And then uh I think I'm gonna jump into Tears in the Kingdom after
*13:21*
I finish Animal Well, which is I told you that I think that's that's another one I wanna do.
*13:24*
'Cause I I mean it's Zelda.
*13:29*
I played like every other Zelda game somehow.
*13:31*
I have not played that, which is just I came out the week I moved.
*13:34*
I was just there's no way I was playing it.
*13:37*
That's been a very busy year.
*13:39*
But I've tried to turn this year into the year of me revisiting these very long open world games that I have previously not played.
*13:40*
So like Elden Ring is pretty much off the docket now.
*13:50*
Tears of the Kingdom is another one.
*13:54*
I want, I mean, I keep telling people this and people are like, why do you want to do that?
*13:55*
And like, I want to play Starfield.
*13:59*
I want to go back and play Starfield.
*14:02*
I really enjoyed the like twenty to twenty-five hours I played of that game.
*14:03*
Like that's the thing.
*14:06*
I liked what I played.
*14:07*
It was just I naturally fell off because I had to start focusing on other things.
*14:08*
Right.
*14:12*
So I want to go back and play more of it.
*14:12*
Um would you start over or just pick up your savings?
*14:15*
No, I think I'll just pick up where I was at.
*14:18*
Okay.
*14:20*
Because it wasn't that long ago.
*14:21*
I mean it was less than a year ago I was playing that game up through
*14:22*
like October or something.
*14:25*
October last year.
*14:27*
Yeah.
*14:28*
Yeah.
*14:29*
I you definitely have had a lot of open world RPG kind of games.
*14:29*
on your list.
*14:33*
That, Elden Ring, Red Dead, Zelda, so I was gonna say Red Dead's the other one too that I have.
*14:35*
Yeehaw Cowboy.
*14:41*
I showed my dad the house buildings on the other day, which I don't know if you're familiar with that.
*14:43*
But you'll know it based off that name I though.
*14:48*
The one thing I will say about Red Dead that has given me a little bit of like relief is that my
*14:50*
My thinking with that one has always been like I have to play Red Dead before Grand Theft Auto 6.
*14:56*
Otherwise I don't know if I'll ever get around to Red Dead, you know.
*15:02*
Uh-huh.
*15:04*
And luckily the other day, you know, take two or whatever was like, oh, the GTA 6 is coming out in fall 2025.
*15:05*
It's like, okay, cool.
*15:11*
Have like another six month buffer or whatever.
*15:13*
Because originally I thought that that game might have been a spring game.
*15:16*
Um spring 2025.
*15:19*
And so now that it's fall, it's like, okay.
*15:22*
So I got a little bit longer than I thought I may have had originally.
*15:24*
So that's good.
*15:28*
It is good.
*15:30*
That'll game that game will be a big big one.
*15:31*
And speaking of b big ones, I don't know.
*15:34*
That was a tarot segue.
*15:37*
Let's talk about how big of a big of one failure of a never mind, I can't carry this.
*15:38*
I can't save that one.
*15:45*
Uh before we dive in to our 2024 predictions.
*15:46*
Per tradition, we must review how terrible we did last year.
*15:51*
Um, and it's pretty rough.
*15:56*
I went through and graded everything.
*15:58*
We can just quickly run through these.
*16:00*
Um
*16:02*
Um, we do it for the big three, Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation.
*16:02*
Part of me was even wondering if if we'll have Xbox be a category here in a few years.
*16:08*
As a hard way to do that.
*16:14*
I mean they're not going away.
*16:18*
They're not uh that's the thing.
*16:21*
They're not going away.
*16:22*
Like even if they dip out of the hardware space, they're not going away.
*16:23*
I always have just thought of the big three as hardware, you know, the first part of the circle.
*16:27*
But it does seem like Xbox is going the way of Sega.
*16:32*
And I I don't mean that in a negative way.
*16:35*
It's just they seem to be more publishing rather than hardware.
*16:38*
But we shall see.
*16:41*
Anyway, last year, we kicked off with Nintendo per your request.
*16:43*
Logan, you said Nintendo wasn't gonna have anything all summer.
*16:49*
You were you were correct, because all they had was Pikmin in the summer pretty much.
*16:54*
When I went back and looked at least.
*16:59*
So good job.
*17:01*
You reviewed that game, right?
*17:02*
You reviewed Pikmin?
*17:04*
Yeah, I like Pikmin.
*17:05*
for quite a bit actually.
*17:06*
That game is way larger than you would think it is too.
*17:07*
Because even after I reviewed it and finished it or thought I had finished it
*17:11*
Then it turns out there's like an entire additional mode to that game, which is its whole this whole huge expansive thing of its own.
*17:15*
And I was like, what?
*17:24*
Like, are you serious?
*17:25*
Like this is tucked in here too?
*17:26*
And I didn't even
*17:28*
really discover that until after I had already reviewed written a review and finished it.
*17:29*
So um that game is really large.
*17:34*
Especially for like a Pikmin game.
*17:37*
It's interesting that all the Pikmin games are on Switch now.
*17:39*
Yeah.
*17:42*
But not other series that we may or may not talk about.
*17:43*
You said the Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door remaster launches in late 2023.
*17:47*
Amiss.
*17:52*
But you were correct that it existed?
*17:54*
I was gonna say ha it hadn't been announced yet.
*17:56*
Yes.
*17:59*
So the fact that I was kind of keyed into that just made me like
*18:00*
four months early.
*18:04*
Yep.
*18:06*
And it uh it just came out and it looks great, feels good.
*18:06*
Um I don't think are you playing that?
*18:11*
N I booted it up just to see it, you know, and just be hit with the wave of, oh my gosh, it's real.
*18:13*
But no, I'm not playing playing right now.
*18:18*
You uh you said the Super Switch will be announced in fall, have a showcase in 24 and launch in the first half of 24.
*18:21*
24.
*18:30*
That is like a RON on all fronts.
*18:30*
Maybe if you change those dates to 25, that might pan out, but uh
*18:32*
No Super Switch.
*18:38*
Who the heck knows?
*18:39*
What's up with that?
*18:40*
Metroid Prime 4 will be shown as a s for Super Switch and launch in 24.
*18:41*
It could launch in 24 and it could still be shown, but it did not happen last year.
*18:46*
It could be for Super Switch.
*18:51*
All of this still could happen, but not announced or shown in the summer.
*18:53*
And then uh an exclusive Resident Evil game will be announced, which is, I've noticed, a theme of yours, but there is no new Resident Evil game.
*18:58*
for the Switch.
*19:06*
Yeah.
*19:07*
Uh I said that Detective Pikachu and Kid Icarus are announced Uprising are announced for Switch.
*19:08*
I did I I did not get that.
*19:15*
Detective Pikachu did show up, but not uh Kid Icarus.
*19:16*
I said the Pokemon would come to NSO.
*19:21*
That's not happened.
*19:23*
I said Donkey Kong would get a new game for Switch.
*19:24*
I guess there was Mario versus Donkey Kon, but that doesn't really count.
*19:27*
I said Super Mario Galaxy 2 would come to the Switch.
*19:31*
They've crushed my dreams.
*19:34*
And I said Tears of the Kingdom would get DLC tied into Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but that.
*19:35*
did uh or that those games would have ties in two tiers of the kingdom and that did not happen either so i was uh i was falling flat on all fronts you sir got a point
*19:41*
A point for negative.
*19:53*
Got a little something.
*19:54*
A little something.
*19:55*
Got a little something in there.
*19:56*
Alright.
*19:57*
Xbox.
*19:59*
You wanna you wanna share your Xbox predictions?
*20:00*
For this year?
*20:03*
No, no, no, no.
*20:04*
For last year.
*20:04*
Last year.
*20:05*
Last year I said they would show off a vowed and state of decay three.
*20:06*
Neither happened.
*20:11*
Although it was.
*20:11*
Yeah, they did show avowed.
*20:12*
They did should they show their vowed last year?
*20:14*
Mm-hmm.
*20:16*
They did show a little bit.
*20:16*
No state of decay though.
*20:17*
Okay.
*20:18*
So vowd showed up, but no state of decay three.
*20:19*
The vowed has since been shown off further and supposed to come out this year, but
*20:21*
We'll see.
*20:25*
I said Persona 3 remake would be announced.
*20:26*
I got it.
*20:29*
It happened.
*20:30*
I have.
*20:34*
DLC's coming up for that.
*20:35*
for that.
*20:37*
That was a one- that was another one that I was glad that I got to play as we kind of tabled chapter select things for a bit.
*20:37*
I said id software would tease their next game and it would not be Doom related.
*20:45*
Uh it that says correct, but uh uh I'm pretty sure that's false.
*20:50*
They didn't tease anything and I don't think that happened at all.
*20:54*
So that definitely didn't happen, in fact.
*20:59*
So I got that.
*21:01*
I wonder why I checked that off then.
*21:02*
Huh.
*21:04*
Um, I said Elden Ring DLC would debut at Xbox's showcase.
*21:04*
Didn't happen.
*21:08*
And then I said a stealth release from uh double fine would happen.
*21:10*
And that didn't happen.
*21:14*
Although I do wonder what they're doing over there.
*21:16*
So Yeah, you kinda you gotta wonder what they're cooking.
*21:18*
Uh I said Indiana Jones would be shown off because the movie was coming out.
*21:21*
That was a big fat flop.
*21:24*
Uh Perfect Dark Re-Emerges.
*21:27*
No, and it sounds like Perfect Dark is in so such a bad place.
*21:29*
Yeah, maybe we'll talk about that more later.
*21:36*
Um I said that the Game Pass family plan would come to North America alongside a price bump.
*21:38*
Um there was a price bump, but I don't think the family plan is here yet.
*21:44*
I couldn't find that.
*21:48*
I said that the Splinter Cell remake would be on the stage.
*21:49*
happen and I said that Gears of War collection would be announced with uh possible Unreal 5 efforts.
*21:52*
Did not happen.
*21:58*
It did not.
*21:59*
Again, I'm a miss.
*22:00*
You got a point, so you're two I wonder when I wonder when the Splinter Cell remake is going to
*22:02*
be revealed though.
*22:08*
Because you would think that's getting kind of They said it was an early production last year, like when they were showing off concept art and stuff for the A.
*22:09*
When was that revealed?
*22:16*
Or when was that like announced?
*22:18*
It it was like two, two and a half, three years ago at this point.
*22:19*
I don't wanna say.
*22:23*
But maybe I'm totally wrong.
*22:25*
Which is why I thought it could show up, but then they were they said last year, oh here, we're in pre production.
*22:28*
2021.
*22:34*
So we're nearing three years.
*22:35*
December 2021.
*22:37*
But then they So two and a half years.
*22:39*
It's been two and a half years.
*22:41*
Yeah.
*22:42*
For it's for a remake though, so like you know I mean AAA development takes so long nowadays that you know who knows, but it is a remake, so they've got the
*22:43*
core of the other game that they're clearly working off of, so and then in late 22, they showed off a very early look.
*22:54*
So I don't know, hopefully.
*23:06*
Um I've just stopped hoping for Splinter Cell stuff.
*23:08*
You know, they canceled that VR game they were
*23:11*
Making, especially after the Assassin's Creed one was received so well, but whatever.
*23:13*
Oobie-gonna Ubi.
*23:19*
Alright, PlayStation 2023.
*23:22*
What'd you have?
*23:24*
So for PlayStation last year, I had The Last of Us Part 3 would be announced.
*23:27*
Just straight up didn't happen.
*23:33*
Nothing.
*23:35*
Uh I said Marvel's Wolverine Marvel's Wolverine won't be shown off, but it will be mentioned.
*23:36*
It didn't even get mentioned.
*23:41*
Well, I mean technically since then we've seen more of it than they ever.
*23:43*
It didn't happen there
*23:48*
Um I said Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 would be shown and would get a 2024 window.
*23:50*
This all happened, but it happened at KeelyCon.
*23:58*
So all of this did end up happening, just wasn't at the PlayStation event.
*24:02*
Um Ghost of Tsushima 2 would be announced, didn't happen.
*24:06*
And then I said Bluepoint games would reveal their next remake.
*24:10*
That didn't happen.
*24:13*
That's gotta be close though.
*24:15*
One would think.
*24:17*
I said this one probably hurts the most
*24:19*
I said the Last of Us Factions game is properly revealed and it launches on PC day and date.
*24:22*
That game has since been canceled in its entirety.
*24:28*
Metal Ge or The Last of Us Online.
*24:33*
Uh I said twist I said Twisted Metal Game is revealed to coincide with the TV show.
*24:36*
That didn't happen.
*24:40*
I said a PlayStation Studios team.
*24:41*
That game reportedly got canceled behind the scenes.
*24:47*
Yes.
*24:50*
And then PlayStation Studios team is making a major PSVR 2 game.
*24:51*
No.
*24:56*
How is that a no?
*24:57*
Like that's what's crazy to me.
*24:58*
Yeah.
*25:00*
It shouldn't be a no.
*25:01*
It should be a that should have been a slam.
*25:02*
How are they how are they investing that much RD and
*25:04*
marketing and all sorts of other time and energy and costs into that device and then they they don't support it.
*25:08*
It's so bizarre.
*25:17*
Sweet, so frustrated.
*25:18*
Take take an L, take an L on this, realize that you failed, reallocate that money to handle
*25:20*
Let's do it.
*25:28*
Come on, it's time.
*25:29*
Well they did.
*25:32*
They made a handheld.
*25:32*
I know, and that was clearly and that thing flew off the dang shelves.
*25:34*
So you gotta think internally right now they're like, alright, it's time to make a dedicated handheld once again.
*25:39*
You would think with all the deck
*25:46*
stuff, the rumors of Xbox, the all these PC handhelds that are just flooding the market, it seems.
*25:48*
You would think that Sony would be like, all right, maybe we can enter this market again with the PlayStation.
*25:55*
Portable Vita 2.
*26:01*
I uh said a new uncharted game is revealed from San Diego team that
*26:04*
Not happen.
*26:09*
And then I said Spider-Man 2 gameplay was shown off, and they confirmed there is co-op.
*26:09*
That did not happen, but again, we do know that there was a co-op Spider-Man game in development.
*26:14*
There was something.
*26:21*
I still don't know what the heck that was.
*26:22*
That was a very high concept trailer, clearly, that was leaning into Spider-Verse.
*26:25*
You know, vibes.
*26:32*
It's whatever.
*26:34*
The lot of things happened to Insomniac in the last year.
*26:35*
Which is I don't I don't say I don't have any predictions from them, so Well, I was gonna say not to guide your own podcast here, but you want to just
*26:40*
Start here with PlayStation and what happened.
*26:50*
Yeah, oh, we need to start with PlayStation.
*26:53*
Yeah, we are recording on the 31st of May and yesterday.
*26:57*
There was the state of play.
*27:01*
So I guess it was kinda like the soft launch of summer video game stuff.
*27:02*
And it soft is probably the good word for it because it was like such a snooze fest, I thought, of a state of play.
*27:06*
But we did lock in some predictions before the state of play, so I thought that we could go through those quickly as well.
*27:16*
We already know if we're right or wrong.
*27:23*
And then uh and then talk loosely about the state of play before diving into our other predictions.
*27:26*
So Logan, what were your five predictions?
*27:31*
Do you have them in front of you?
*27:34*
Yeah, I do actually I just went and found them.
*27:36*
No, I just went and found them.
*27:39*
Um I said that uh there will be only one newly announced Sony First Party game at the event.
*27:40*
I'm correct.
*27:46*
I think that's correct.
*27:48*
It is just Astrobot.
*27:49*
Yep, you are correct.
*27:51*
So I got I got it.
*27:52*
I got one.
*27:53*
Starting off on the right foot there.
*27:54*
Um, I said a goodbye message from Jim Ryan would play and then would be followed by Herman Hulse saying, Hello, I'm your new daddy.
*27:56*
That did not be a good idea.
*28:03*
Neither one of them showed up.
*28:04*
I was a little surprised to make sense to see Herman though.
*28:07*
I thought Herman would be there.
*28:10*
They should have had Jim come up right after the Concord sequence and he should have said, Hello, I'm Jim Ryan, and I green let this game and I'm no longer at the company.
*28:12*
Goodbye.
*28:20*
And that we could have gone.
*28:21*
You can thank me for this.
*28:22*
Uh I said Sony would tease the existence of a PS5 Pro.
*28:24*
They they did not.
*28:28*
I thought for a second they did in the Astro trailer, there's l an all there's like a black PS5 without the plates on it.
*28:31*
Oh yeah.
*28:39*
And I was like, is that?
*28:40*
And then I realized it was just a PS5 without the plates.
*28:42*
I was like, what is I thought it was a cool tease though.
*28:44*
This is the one that's uh surprising to me.
*28:47*
I said the new Astro game will be compatible with both PS5 and PSVR two and will launch this year.
*28:50*
All aspects of that are right except
*28:55*
For the PSVR2 part.
*28:58*
It's not right.
*28:59*
I mean it will come to PS5 and we'll launch this year, but how it's not for PSVR2.
*29:00*
Which of all games you thought would be.
*29:05*
And from all studios.
*29:08*
Yeah.
*29:10*
I'm glad it's not personally, because I liked Astros Playroom more than Rescue Mission, but like
*29:11*
But if it could have just been both Yeah, you could yeah, you could have had some compatibility with it, you would have thought.
*29:17*
Like it's really strange.
*29:24*
And then I said Resident Evil remakes would appear.
*29:26*
Here's that thread.
*29:30*
Multi potent yeah.
*29:31*
You had Silent Hill though.
*29:34*
Silent Hill for horror and Monster Hunter from Capcom, so
*29:36*
You were like semi-close, but not really.
*29:40*
Um so my predictions.
*29:44*
I said Astrobot, and the reason I kept this was because the second part of that was but no PSVR2 support.
*29:47*
Like that's the level of despair I'm at with the PSVR2.
*29:53*
And so I did get that correct.
*29:57*
Let me ask, do you regret your purchase of that at all?
*30:00*
Oh, I like it.
*30:04*
I'm excited to play Resident Evil 4 and VR.
*30:05*
I am bummed there's not more to play from a first party perspective.
*30:08*
Like, I bet I don't regret the purchase.
*30:14*
I you know, it's fun.
*30:16*
I like VR stuff and playing around with it.
*30:17*
Do I regret it from just like a financial perspective?
*30:20*
Yeah, probably.
*30:23*
My bank account doesn't appreciate it, but as
*30:25*
uh playing games.
*30:28*
I think it's dope.
*30:29*
What I played of Resident Evil Village in it was awesome.
*30:30*
I'm sure four is gonna be really good.
*30:33*
I just haven't played it yet.
*30:35*
So and there's a lot of VR games I want to play.
*30:37*
I just haven't bought 'em yet.
*30:40*
So I like it.
*30:41*
But my next prediction was PSVR2 games are depressing.
*30:43*
There was a whopping two PSVR2 games at the showcase.
*30:46*
Both of them were previously announced.
*30:50*
And um that alien game.
*30:52*
The alien one was like the trailer for that was like absolutely nothing new.
*30:54*
Like they added like
*30:59*
10 seconds of like in-game footage or something like that?
*31:01*
They showed gameplay, which they hadn't shown before, but here's why it bums me out.
*31:06*
I was like, oh, maybe this will be good.
*31:12*
And then on the PlayStation blog, there's a post about it, and I've I've meaning to write about it, but uh this paragraph says, While heart-pounding combat is at the core of alien rogue incursion, and that's when I
*31:14*
Just laid my head down and said, This is where it all goes wrong.
*31:28*
At least we'll always have isolation.
*31:32*
Heart pounding combat should not be the core of the alien game.
*31:35*
Horror should be at the core of the alien game.
*31:39*
Um I mean, I think you can add combat and it can be heart-pounding combat, but I don't know if
*31:42*
At the heart of it though.
*31:50*
It's the core of the game.
*31:51*
I don't know about that.
*31:53*
Should be more like isolation.
*31:54*
Whatever.
*31:56*
They're depressing.
*31:57*
And there were only two of them there, which was also.
*31:57*
Then I said uh I bet on the Ron live service game.
*32:01*
I said we get that gameplay of fair games.
*32:05*
I chose poorly.
*32:07*
I chose between that or Concord, and I chose Fair Games.
*32:08*
Uh I said Ghost of Tsushima 2 is very real.
*32:12*
I thought like this would be the tease, like, and here it is, and you'll learn more about it someday later, but no.
*32:15*
And then I have one prediction that we will find out.
*32:23*
I know this is like a slightly cheating.
*32:28*
We'll find out next Friday, which is
*32:30*
There will be Judas gameplay at Keeley's Summer Games Fest, but it will be like branded as on PS5.
*32:33*
Like it'll have the PS5.
*32:41*
So I guess it's kind of cheating a little bit, I guess, but I think Judas is showing up and I think it'll be Achilles thing and it'll be time to
*32:46*
with PlayStation.
*32:54*
I would like that.
*32:55*
I want to see more of that game.
*32:56*
I'm excited for that.
*32:58*
Do you agree it was a snooze?
*33:00*
Oh yeah.
*33:03*
I think uh as a whole, I mean this is a larger conversation as a whole, but I think the whole summer games excitement period here has just t totally died.
*33:04*
Like there's
*33:14*
I mean this year specifically is kind of a weird one because obviously Xbox is floundering and just shut down two studios and is gonna dedicate a huge portion of its own
*33:16*
Yeah, they shut down two, they reallocated one, and then they shut down another smaller one.
*33:28*
So they shut down four total, I guess.
*33:33*
Um but obviously Tango and Arcane are the two
*33:37*
big ones.
*33:39*
I mean they just had a rough 2023 I mean so Xbox is just not doing great.
*33:40*
Nintendo's in this weird holding pattern that they've now acknowledged that they're basically in.
*33:47*
So it's like
*33:51*
Even this coming month's direct or this month's direct, it's like I'm interested and excited to see what they're gonna do, but it's like
*33:53*
Not the same sort of interest level that you would normally have with something like this because it's just like, okay, we know that you're not gonna really pull out any heavy hitters until the next console is out, so okay
*34:01*
Um It's the calm before the storm for them.
*34:13*
This is just a weird year.
*34:17*
Like, and it's not like anything is necessarily bad this year.
*34:18*
I feel like we're still getting a lot of good games actually and a lot of good stuff is coming out.
*34:21*
But the big three per se are
*34:25*
Very much laying low.
*34:28*
Um, I mean maybe Xbox is the one that isn't necessarily laying low, but it's hard to really
*34:30*
think too positively about them right now, I guess.
*34:37*
I don't know.
*34:41*
No, you and I think that's a good idea.
*34:42*
uh as I normally would this time every single year.
*34:50*
It it feels like it's just kinda like suddenly happened.
*34:54*
Like it's just
*34:57*
Oh, or in the summer.
*34:58*
I don't know.
*35:00*
I just I'm struggling to get excited.
*35:01*
You know, Ubisoft Connect, if they're like, you're gonna see
*35:07*
more Assassin's Creed Shadow Shadows the Japanese game whatever it's called Shadows because there's two assassins
*35:10*
So you're gonna do that in Star Wars, like Ubisoft's pretty cut and dry there.
*35:18*
I truly don't know what Keely is gonna have, and that's not good.
*35:24*
And then like let's just I just want to hold on right there too.
*35:28*
Like I hate that Keeley continues to be the master of ceremonies for everything.
*35:31*
Like
*35:36*
Like I enjoy the game awards or whatever.
*35:37*
Like we get I get together every year and watch that and I like that event and I enjoy it and Keely's obviously always been a big figure in the gaming industry.
*35:39*
But I hate that everything flows through him
*35:46*
Now it's like dude not even that he claims everything.
*35:50*
You go to the Summer Games Fest website, yes, and the state of play was on the website.
*35:55*
It's like
*35:59*
This is a part of Games Fest.
*36:00*
It's like, no, it's not.
*36:01*
Sony didn't.
*36:02*
Sony's doing this on their own.
*36:04*
Sony had there was not a lick of branding.
*36:05*
on the state of play that said anything about Game Master Summer Games.
*36:08*
Same thing with X Spikes.
*36:11*
It's like he just claims that anything in summer is his
*36:13*
But here's the thing, and I guess E3 kind of used to be that same way where like all of these big conference but
*36:17*
The con that was different because the publishers would like like call them the our this is our E3 press conference and welcome to E3 everybody.
*36:24*
We're here for E3 this week.
*36:32*
And they were all right before the expo.
*36:34*
The show itself where you would then see the games that were shown at the presentation.
*36:37*
And you'd get hands-on time or just see more demos.
*36:42*
Like it it all fed into itself.
*36:45*
And so I understand.
*36:48*
And Keely's tr Keely's trying to do the in-person thing for people who don't realize this or maybe who aren't in the
*36:50*
Yeah, he's trying to do that, but last year I went to that and it wasn't that big of a deal, and I think that's mainly because a lot of the big heavy the the big players within the game and games industry weren't
*36:57*
really taking part in any major capacity with it.
*37:10*
Um and then on top of that, they have extended the event by one day this year.
*37:13*
And I don't really think that event needs to be even longer.
*37:18*
Um especially if they've got the same sort of people I I I don't know.
*37:22*
I don't know what that's gonna look like this year, so but
*37:27*
Yeah.
*37:30*
I know I know our buddy Tomas is going 'cause he he told me he was getting ready to head out to but I know I know you're not going 'cause of everything we talked at at the top of the show.
*37:30*
So I mean I'm curious, but I just
*37:39*
I guess Keely has the most potential to surprise me because I really don't know what to expect from his show this year.
*37:44*
And I just don't have high expectations for it.
*37:52*
He usually gets one thing it seems like the biggest reveal of my entire life.
*37:54*
He usually gets one thing that seems like it's like gone under the radar and that no one expected him to have.
*38:01*
And so that's always kind of exciting.
*38:08*
But other than that, like even with his event now, you know, he's
*38:10*
Already dropping teasers.
*38:14*
Come see this game at Summer Game Fest.
*38:15*
We'll get a look at the next entry in this series.
*38:18*
It's summer like he he kind of drops these teasers before it and it's like
*38:21*
I don't know.
*38:25*
Like the past couple years it started to feel like all of his stuff is more of a commercial.
*38:26*
And all these things are commercials at the end of the day.
*38:30*
Like we're consuming products or whatever.
*38:32*
And um
*38:36*
Yeah, I don't I don't know.
*38:38*
It's I j I just don't like that it all flows through Keately, I guess, at the end of the day.
*38:40*
Yeah.
*38:44*
I'm not I'm not a fan either of that.
*38:44*
I do you think
*38:47*
Do you think Kojima or Dracman show up?
*38:51*
As is like a soft tradition for him where he says And if Dracman shows up, does it leak the day before?
*38:54*
We just had Kojima show up for ten minutes the game the Game Awards this past year and I don't even know what the frick he talked about.
*39:03*
Like So I think if I think if Kojima has anything, it would be at Xbox's stage this time to show off overdose.
*39:12*
And I don't I maybe, but I don't even think that will happen.
*39:21*
I think if any
*39:25*
Anything could Kojima happens this year, it'll be at the end of the year.
*39:25*
It's definitely not gonna be Death Stranding.
*39:29*
That game's already has a twenty-five date.
*39:31*
Like they'll show more of that when it's closer.
*39:34*
And then Neil, I don't I think Naughty Dog isn't gonna say anything until that game is pretty much done and dusted.
*39:36*
So
*39:44*
He's told that as much to me, so Yeah, they're they're none of that.
*39:45*
But I do just find it funny, you know, he had Neil out on that stage two years ago now.
*39:51*
Think so.
*39:57*
To be like, look at the concept art for the first of us online.
*39:57*
Yeah, yeah.
*40:01*
And who's excited for The Last of Us Part One, which totally didn't leak hours before the show
*40:01*
Yeah.
*40:09*
What uh what do you think happens first?
*40:10*
Do you think Naughty Dog reveals its next game or do you think uh Last of Us Season 2 airs?
*40:12*
Oh, season two will air.
*40:19*
Really?
*40:22*
Yeah, because that's next year.
*40:23*
We have a date for that.
*40:25*
It's filming.
*40:26*
We know.
*40:27*
Yeah, but you have to think.
*40:28*
You have to think.
*40:30*
So there's Game Fest next week potential, which probably won't happen.
*40:32*
So then after that, there's the potential of a showcase maybe this fall for PlayStation.
*40:37*
I think maybe game awards.
*40:41*
Gamescom is pretty not gonna happen.
*40:45*
I'd say it's either a false showcase or Jeff somehow gets the reveal for Game Awards.
*40:49*
Those are the two big op
*40:55*
Options, I would say.
*40:57*
Otherwise, yes.
*40:58*
Season two will air first.
*40:59*
I don't think so.
*41:01*
I don't think we see anything from Naughty Dog this year.
*41:02*
At some point at some point PlayStation does have to start getting people a little hyped for, you know
*41:05*
Next year though.
*41:10*
I think though they have all those other teams that can do that.
*41:11*
Yeah.
*41:15*
I mean what do they have next?
*41:15*
What do they have next year?
*41:17*
Blue point, whatever so they have Death Straining 2.
*41:19*
Um whatever Blue Point's working on, theoretically that could be next year.
*41:22*
Um You know that Uncharted game is just like rumors been floating around about that.
*41:28*
I could see that being something that shows up at a showcase.
*41:33*
Jason's like uncharted.
*41:36*
Yes.
*41:41*
Uh so we'll see.
*41:44*
We'll see.
*41:45*
But I don't I don't think.
*41:46*
I think Blas of us season two airs before Naughty Dog.
*41:47*
reveals a game.
*41:50*
For sure.
*41:52*
That's where my gut is.
*41:52*
So if I'm wrong, I'll be delighted.
*41:54*
Let's move on to Xbox
*41:57*
Now that we don't know each other's predictions.
*41:59*
Now the real fun begins.
*42:01*
Because we had to share, or you had to share your list with me, just so I could keep it written down and keep
*42:03*
track of things.
*42:10*
I guess you didn't have to, but whatever.
*42:10*
I knew your predictions.
*42:12*
So Xbox Logan, they're on Sunday this year, as is true.
*42:15*
Tradition, what do you think Xbox is gonna show off this year?
*42:21*
Um I mean there's already a lot of things floating out there, so I tried to obviously it's never fun to predict things really that
*42:27*
are kind of out there.
*42:35*
But that being said, I will start with one that is already out there.
*42:37*
Okay.
*42:42*
Um but I'll I'll I'll mainly predict like when it's releasing.
*42:42*
And this is funny because it kinda pick piggybacks off the one from last year where I said a id software would reveal its next game, it won't be doomed.
*42:48*
Now I'm gonna say, no, it will be doom.
*42:56*
Because that's what all the reports are saying.
*42:58*
So I'll say this new Doom game is going to be revealed and I will be out in less than a year.
*43:00*
So I am thinking it will be out uh probably early twenty twenty five.
*43:07*
what I'm thinking.
*43:12*
How are you feeling about the medieval Doom?
*43:13*
Doom sign me the frick up.
*43:16*
Let's go.
*43:18*
That sounds awesome.
*43:19*
Like, I I I trust Id completely
*43:21*
So I yeah go for it.
*43:26*
It is no secret of my uh
*43:29*
Beef with Doom and its length, the last two iterations, and mostly hammed up.
*43:34*
Like Doom is fun.
*43:39*
Very fun, but it is far too long.
*43:40*
And then obviously all of the stuff that happened with uh is it Mick Gordon is the composer of Doom 2016.
*43:43*
Yeah, yeah, yes, yes.
*43:51*
That whole thing with Marty, who's still at it as far as I know.
*43:52*
I mean he's like the boss over there, yeah.
*43:58*
It's a it's embarrassing and a sham that needs to change.
*44:00*
So like I have some issues with it itself now.
*44:04*
and Microsoft I suppose.
*44:07*
There's a I have a lot of issues with my our Xbox executive leadership and I know you're upset with them too.
*44:08*
Uh
*44:18*
In particular, so but outside of that, just do medieval as a concept?
*44:19*
Sure, why not?
*44:25*
We've sent a space marine to Mars to fight demons from hell.
*44:26*
Why not send him
*44:30*
through time or into a medieval setting.
*44:32*
Uh you know, whatever.
*44:35*
That seems goofy.
*44:36*
This is being pitched as like the Doom prequel.
*44:38*
It's called like Doom.
*44:41*
I think if you've played if you've well, here's the thing, this is the reason why I like it.
*44:48*
If you played Doom Eternal, it talked about all of this stuff that was like
*44:52*
the history or the roots of the Doom Slayer and like what he was doing before the events of the Doom games and all this stuff.
*44:57*
And it was sort of like medieval like.
*45:04*
Sure.
*45:07*
I can already piece together in my mind, like, oh, this is what they're gonna lean into and they're gonna tell that story next.
*45:08*
Which is weird, like to link all the doom, lore, and history together in these ways.
*45:14*
Sure.
*45:18*
But it sounds
*45:19*
Awesome.
*45:20*
Like I would absolutely play that game.
*45:21*
That's gonna be really cool.
*45:23*
I wonder mechanically how it would work, because like the grappling hook was kind of a thing.
*45:24*
Do do do medieval people have grappling hooks?
*45:28*
I feel like so I feel like I've been trying to think about this and I feel like the thought of like, you know, medieval doom immediately m makes you think that like there would only be
*45:30*
maybe hand-to-hand combat weapons or something, swords and stuff like that.
*45:38*
They're still gonna have they're still gonna have guns.
*45:41*
I feel like you can't not have guns in a Doom game.
*45:43*
I just think there is going to be a larger
*45:47*
you know, hand to hand or melee combat sort of implementation.
*45:50*
Which leans right into that whole um oh, I'm forgetting the term.
*45:53*
The glory kills.
*46:00*
Yeah, glory kills where you had to get in there to get the elves.
*46:01*
Like Yes.
*46:04*
This that's a mechanic that makes sense in this.
*46:05*
And they introduced a sword near the end of Doom Eternal and like Yeah.
*46:07*
There's there's a lot they can do.
*46:12*
I'm sure it'll be fine.
*46:14*
I I'll lean into an easy one.
*46:16*
Right out of the gate.
*46:19*
There's a gameplay demo for Indiana Jones.
*46:20*
We see the game in action for like a chunk of time.
*46:23*
Okay.
*46:30*
I I think that's super easy.
*46:31*
I feel like that's a that's like a c slam dunk guarantee that we see that
*46:33*
I mean, we need more gameplay from them this year with whatever they're doing.
*46:37*
Fewer CGI trailers.
*46:40*
We know they're gonna do the Call of Duty thing afterwards, but
*46:42*
We need more we need more gameplay other than just, you know, Call of Duty.
*46:46*
And who exactly knows how much they even show during that?
*46:51*
So I'll start with the other big obvious thing.
*46:54*
Um so we know Gears of War 6 is probably going to be revealed.
*46:57*
That's been reported and rumored a lot.
*47:01*
That's not my prediction, though.
*47:02*
Um I do think they will show Gear 6.
*47:04*
But they're for going to finally piggyback that announcement with like, oh yeah, here's the Gears of War remastered trilogy, and I think it'll be out this year.
*47:08*
I had the same prediction.
*47:18*
I won't use it again, but I did.
*47:19*
I said it's a Gears of War Love Fest with six and a collection and it's Unreal Engine 5, like the whole deal.
*47:21*
I think that's the easiest way, yes, to like
*47:27*
generate hype for it will be the Master Chief collection equivalent, hopefully without the bat online.
*47:31*
I hope that's true.
*47:38*
I hope so.
*47:39*
Yeah, so that's that's what I assume as well.
*47:41*
So I like that.
*47:43*
I will I'm
*47:46*
The Outer Wild or not Outer Wilds.
*47:53*
Gosh, what a terrible year that was.
*47:56*
The Outer Worlds 2 reappears.
*47:58*
We see that in motion.
*48:02*
It's moving around.
*48:04*
Maybe get a window.
*48:05*
The Outer Worlds 2.
*48:07*
And then once that game comes out, they'll announce that they're shutting down the studio.
*48:09*
There you go.
*48:14*
That would be a good one for them to actually show right now, especially when, you know, the fallout hype is so high.
*48:15*
I know it's not fallout, but it
*48:21*
It's like Fallout.
*48:23*
It's literally made by the creators of Fallout too, so it's like Yeah, like that one it's makes a lot of sense to
*48:26*
to show off right now.
*48:34*
Um I thought so.
*48:35*
I think it's way more likely than that uh clockwork game that they showed last year.
*48:37*
I uh I've actually been wanting to go back and play that game.
*48:44*
I have like a distinct desire to play all of those like Fallout Elder Swill style games right now.
*48:46*
Like that's why I want to go back and play Starfield.
*48:52*
It's 'cause I've been playing New Vegas on the side on my Steam Deck and I've been loving it.
*48:54*
I'm like, I want to play Starfield.
*48:57*
And then I play Starfield and I'm like, I wanna play the Outer Worlds.
*48:59*
I never finish that.
*49:03*
So
*49:04*
I don't know.
*49:04*
Something about that genre right now is just really hitting with me.
*49:05*
I'm really enjoying it.
*49:07*
So thanks.
*49:08*
Like a Bezos.
*49:09*
Probably because I took such a long period.
*49:11*
I mean that I used to play
*49:13*
I know you did.
*49:15*
Those games so much back in the day.
*49:16*
Like that was like the main type of genre.
*49:18*
I played those open world Bethesda RPGs.
*49:21*
Um we had more time back then.
*49:24*
We did.
*49:26*
I've just not played any of them really.
*49:27*
I since Fallout 4, which I dabbled with, but that was again or I didn't just dabble with it, I played a lot, but again that was
*49:29*
Nine years ago, I think, at this point, eight or nine years ago when it released.
*49:38*
So there's a desire there.
*49:43*
Alright, my next one for Xbox.
*49:45*
I think Perfect Dark is going to be completely MIA.
*49:48*
I don't think it's shown shows up.
*49:53*
I don't think it's mentioned.
*49:55*
I don't think it anything with this game.
*49:57*
I don't know what the frick is wrong with this game.
*49:59*
But like everything that comes out about it is sounds not great.
*50:01*
Um Yeah.
*50:07*
So I guess we'll s I guess we'll see.
*50:12*
That's one that they should absolutely show off at an event like this because that studio got established so long ago.
*50:14*
And then not only that, but um
*50:21*
Yeah.
*50:25*
They revealed that game, I want to say, like, through two or three years ago now, with that, like, you know, reveal teaser.
*50:25*
And it's like
*50:32*
That one should show up here, like without a doubt.
*50:33*
But will it?
*50:36*
I don't think so.
*50:38*
And that's crazy to think.
*50:40*
It was it was announced in 2020.
*50:42*
the game awards.
*50:45*
And uh that's it.
*50:48*
That's the last time we heard anything specifically about it.
*50:49*
The initiative, the studio, was launched five years ago in June of 2018.
*50:52*
I I actually think this could be the next studio they shut down.
*51:00*
I would not be shocked.
*51:05*
But you have to let them release the game.
*51:07*
I think I think they might pull like a like a Disney and write it off.
*51:12*
I don't think they can do that.
*51:17*
I mean I guess I wouldn't be shocked, but that seems also
*51:19*
Crazy to me.
*51:23*
I don't know.
*51:25*
I mean they have to Crystal Dynamics was brought in at some point to assist.
*51:25*
And I think it isn't Crystal was just sold.
*51:31*
Um from Embracer?
*51:35*
Are they still owned by Embracer or something?
*51:36*
Yeah, they were like restructured within Embracer and Embracer is now like three companies or something like that.
*51:39*
Yeah, it's silly.
*51:45*
I
*51:46*
I don't know, man.
*51:47*
I think the initiative is like heading for the chopping block, which is just bonkers, and I've lost all hope in Perfect Dark.
*51:48*
seeing it like come to fruition.
*52:01*
So I agree with you.
*52:02*
It will not be the at the show in any capacity.
*52:04*
I think the crazier thing to me about this studio, the initiative, which was formed in 2018.
*52:07*
So they've been around for six years now and they have
*52:13*
I've not shipped the game.
*52:15*
d developers or live or whatever.
*52:27*
Like I know that they like intentionally intentionally put it in like Santa Monica because they're like, this will allow us to get talent from
*52:30*
the naughty dogs and the Santa Monica studios and these types of studios that are already rooted in this part of the world and like this is great and this is a huge opportunity for us.
*52:37*
But like to my knowledge, like there's still like I don't even know if they've got a hundred people at this studio.
*52:46*
Obviously they've partnered up with Crystal Dynamics to make this game.
*52:51*
And so like my biggest questions surrounding this studio are less tied to the studio itself and more just like
*52:55*
What the heck is Xbox doing?
*53:03*
Like I don't think they I don't think they can manage I don't think they're good at managing studios at all.
*53:05*
And the fact that Matt Booty continues to have a job and
*53:11*
get insane bonuses and promotions and stuff like that when this is the state of your studio group like bewildering to me
*53:15*
To be honest, like it's just it's wild.
*53:26*
I fully agree.
*53:29*
I cannot uh I cannot believe
*53:31*
The state of not only the initiative, but just the rest of the Xbox's studios and teams.
*53:36*
That's
*53:44*
A little stunning to me.
*53:46*
They've spent seventy billion dollars to acquire Activision and all of the
*53:48*
And they're getting rid of the teams that did produce award-winning games that they say they need, smaller games, and to which would then feed into this Game Pass model of keeping it sustained.
*53:53*
But they just.
*54:05*
I don't know, man.
*54:08*
They clearly don't know.
*54:09*
And I am stunned and kind of bummed that like Phil still has his job.
*54:10*
Booty still has a job.
*54:17*
Matt Booty's getting promoted, you know, like this sort of stuff.
*54:17*
I think Booty is the one that is like crazy to me.
*54:20*
Like that's
*54:24*
Like I I feel like Phil is is kind of hamstrung in some situations.
*54:25*
I don't want to stand up for Phil fully because a lot of what's going on falls on his shoulders.
*54:29*
But like
*54:33*
The recurring theme of like what I think is most wrong with Xbox is that their studios are not managed well.
*54:34*
And at some point that has to fall on the person who's responsible for that directly, which is Matt Booty.
*54:40*
So I I think he's the larger issue than anybody else.
*54:46*
It's crazy, man.
*54:52*
Whatever.
*54:53*
We'll see.
*54:54*
Perfect dark.
*54:55*
It should show up, but it won't.
*54:56*
Correct.
*54:58*
Alright.
*54:59*
I'm I'm gonna do this one next.
*55:02*
Everwild pokes its little head up.
*55:07*
Does that game still exist?
*55:11*
It does.
*55:13*
It went through a rework apparently a couple years ago.
*55:14*
Kinda like little hints that it could be shown off again this year.
*55:19*
So I think Everwild kinda popped.
*55:23*
I think Sea of Thieves obviously has done super well.
*55:26*
It just made the jump to PS5.
*55:28*
Like rare hasn't made something new in quite some time.
*55:32*
And
*55:36*
And I think that Sea of Thieves has given them obviously the capital and time to like make whatever this thing is.
*55:37*
So I think Everwild kind of pops back up.
*55:44*
I don't think they've let it go.
*55:47*
I think it's just
*55:48*
And I think being able to put the rare logo up, besides in front of a teaser for a new season of see if these would be good for them.
*55:51*
I cu I I like I said, I don't know what the deal is with this game.
*56:00*
Supposedly it was like just a concept more than it was an actual game.
*56:04*
And when they started talking about the game and like here's what we envisioned for this game to be like, it was like none of this makes sense.
*56:08*
like what they were saying about it and how they talked about it.
*56:14*
Like I didn't it didn't it didn't sound like a game in a lot of ways.
*56:17*
So like I would like to see it show back up, but yeah, what exactly is this
*56:22*
Yes.
*56:28*
So it according to the Wikipedia page, it started development in 2014 and kind of a prototype.
*56:29*
It was announced uh twenty nineteen in November.
*56:35*
Um
*56:39*
And then since then Jeff Grubb has said in 2021 that it was rebooted a ways off scheduled for 23, was what Grubb was saying in 21.
*56:39*
Uh VGC said it went a complete went underwent a complete reboot with an optimistic target of 24.
*56:51*
So I feel like it popping its head back up, whether or not it's out in 24.
*56:59*
I think it makes sense.
*57:04*
But they clearly have not let it go, at least according to insider.
*57:05*
So I think I think Everwild the name at least appears.
*57:09*
If is it the same?
*57:14*
I don't know.
*57:15*
Well, let's stick with that for my next one as far as names appearing.
*57:16*
Um.
*57:21*
We know Starfield's gonna show up.
*57:22*
We know they're gonna talk about that expansion.
*57:24*
And I have just written down, Todd will at least mention Elder Shroll 6.
*57:26*
No, stop, Todd, don't mention it.
*57:32*
He'll just be like, as you know.
*57:37*
We're working on Elder Scrolls 6 right now, but here's this DLC in the meantime.
*57:39*
I think he'll say it.
*57:44*
The words Elder Scrolls.
*57:46*
Yes.
*57:50*
Oh my gosh.
*57:52*
Yes.
*57:53*
That is my simple prediction.
*57:54*
That's a good one.
*57:56*
That's actually really good.
*57:57*
I like it.
*57:59*
Oh man.
*58:00*
Uh okay.
*58:01*
My fourth prediction.
*58:04*
It is time.
*58:09*
Like channel your inner Bruce Buffer.
*58:11*
Banjo game announced.
*58:21*
No
*58:24*
Phil, here's the people.
*58:24*
And Microsoft would totally do it.
*58:26*
Where they're just gonna announce it.
*58:29*
They're just gonna say a banjo games in the works.
*58:31*
They may even give it a name.
*58:34*
We're not gonna like, I'm not saying we see gameplay.
*58:35*
They're gonna say that there's a banjo game because Microsoft needs a lot of goodwill and a banjo game could help generate that.
*58:38*
Um, sure they'll shut the studio down after the banjo game comes out, but banjo will come back.
*58:46*
Who do you think's making it?
*58:53*
I don't know.
*58:56*
They they could have hired it out.
*58:57*
I don't who's who who's making it internally.
*58:59*
I do find it quite funny though.
*59:03*
I do not think it is Toys for Bob, but I find it hilarious that Toys for Bob left Activision and they've announced a partnership with Microsoft who is gonna fund or publish their next game.
*59:05*
That is
*59:17*
Very funny.
*59:19*
Um, that's some like Bungie leaving Microsoft getting bet in bed with Activision kind of energy.
*59:20*
Okay.
*59:28*
I kind of understand why they would want to do that though, because it at least prevents them from ever having to be a cod Call of Duty support studio ever again.
*59:30*
Uh until why what I think they didn't want to make Call of Duty maps.
*59:40*
Like I totally get why they left.
*59:45*
I just find it funny that they're back.
*59:46*
It is it is it is somewhat funny, I will agree.
*59:51*
with you.
*59:54*
But man, it's I I I don't know.
*59:54*
When was that Phil quote about we hear you banjo fans?
*59:56*
I don't know.
*01:00:00*
I I don't know.
*01:00:01*
He said it in
*01:00:02*
I mean who cares what he says at this point to be totally honest.
*01:00:04*
Uh but yes, he did say that at it at some point.
*01:00:08*
I just
*01:00:12*
Can't remember when it was It was December.
*01:00:13*
Okay, December.
*01:00:15*
I couldn't remember it was in the past year or what.
*01:00:17*
It was six months ago.
*01:00:20*
I
*01:00:21*
I'm not looking for like, and here's the whole game.
*01:00:22*
I just like I feel like this type of announcement would happen
*01:00:25*
To help garner goodwill, get people excited, and then, you know, go from there.
*01:00:31*
Maybe maybe it's just a Grunty's Revenge remaster.
*01:00:39*
I mean, I would
*01:00:43*
Sure.
*01:00:44*
I'll take anything at this point.
*01:00:45*
Just you know.
*01:00:47*
Anything?
*01:00:48*
Be careful with that.
*01:00:49*
I think the last time people said anything, we got nuts and bolts.
*01:00:50*
I mean, dude, I will take just about anything, to be honest.
*01:00:52*
I mean not, you know, within reason, but just give me something.
*01:00:56*
Show that you like the IP.
*01:01:02*
How far ahead of its time was nuts and bolts?
*01:01:05*
Uh when did Tears of the Kingdom release?
*01:01:09*
T twenty twenty-three, so like fifteen years.
*01:01:13*
Not only that, but you know, there were the games of building your own vehicles and you know, Fortnite has this build mechanic like
*01:01:18*
They actu in Minecraft, obviously.
*01:01:27*
Like they were actually ahead of their time.
*01:01:29*
They just I guess chose the wrong IP to do it with.
*01:01:31*
Like the back to the future scene.
*01:01:35*
You guys don't understand that, but your kid your kids are gonna love it.
*01:01:38*
Yeah.
*01:01:42*
I g pretty much exactly.
*01:01:43*
It's surprising.
*01:01:45*
Who would have thunk?
*01:01:46*
Nuts and bolts ahead of its time.
*01:01:47*
R Rare was on to something.
*01:01:49*
That game is still not good though.
*01:01:51*
I I mean Oh, I yeah.
*01:01:52*
The core idea and mechanics, yeah, maybe.
*01:01:54*
But the game's still not good.
*01:01:56*
Alright, what's your last one?
*01:02:01*
Uh my last one for Xbox is that uh
*01:02:04*
Uh fable gameplay still doesn't appear.
*01:02:08*
Still isn't shown.
*01:02:11*
Even though they kind of tried to pass off what last year was was gameplay in that like trailer they showed for it, but it was like in engine or little thing
*01:02:12*
Yeah.
*01:02:21*
Um I think Fable probably has some sort of presence or something at this showcase, but I don't think it's gonna be gameplay.
*01:02:23*
Alright.
*01:02:30*
I'm going big.
*01:02:32*
He already did banjo.
*01:02:35*
Bigger.
*01:02:37*
Bigger can you go?
*01:02:37*
Microsoft does the thing and reveals a handheld.
*01:02:39*
I would be very happy.
*01:02:47*
I think I think every a lot of this market stuff is pointing to it.
*01:02:49*
They've acknowledged like
*01:02:55*
We've got some interesting stuff cooking, like, can't wait to show you later.
*01:02:57*
I think they've seen Microsoft specifically has seen what's happening with the Steam Deck and all these other PC competitors.
*01:03:01*
Microsoft makes PCs, they make Windows, they are actually in the midst of their ARM transition, they're directly targeting MacBook Airs.
*01:03:10*
Like to bring a little bit of that in there, like Microsoft is getting
*01:03:19*
Pretty aggressive with the the hardware and PC push of things.
*01:03:23*
And what better marriage of all of this than a a gaming handheld which leans into their game pass service
*01:03:27*
being able to stream or download a library of games.
*01:03:36*
Hardware design, obviously they don't make controllers and screens that brings their laptop and hardware divisions together.
*01:03:39*
Like
*01:03:46*
Microsoft has the capability to do it, and I think now would be a time, especially since Phil has at least previously said that they're not doing like a mid-cycle power console.
*01:03:47*
You know, there's not some Series X Plus coming out later.
*01:04:00*
There's still that adorably all digital one that was in a presentation at some point and probably like we'll have a redesign.
*01:04:04*
I think now could be, especially the portal coming out and that only being a streaming device, like this could be an opportunity to be like, we have the one up on Sony on handhelds by having a native device that
*01:04:13*
You can control or whatever.
*01:04:25*
And it just works with your Xbox games.
*01:04:26*
And it just works with your I would hope with your Steam games.
*01:04:28*
Like, because it could be a PC or whatever.
*01:04:32*
So I don't know.
*01:04:34*
I see a lot of potential there.
*01:04:35*
I agree with everything you have said.
*01:04:38*
I just think it's too early.
*01:04:41*
I think they are.
*01:04:44*
I think they're the sizzle reel.
*01:04:46*
They did the Scorpio.
*01:04:48*
Remember that?
*01:04:49*
Yeah, but I feel like a handheld is different and you're not gonna want to reveal that until you're like
*01:04:50*
like six months to a year out from launching it.
*01:04:56*
Uh I think they're within a year of launching it if yeah.
*01:04:59*
I could see I think I think it's only within the past year that they have really
*01:05:02*
realized like, oh, we should do this.
*01:05:08*
And maybe they've been R and Ding something.
*01:05:10*
I maybe they've been R and D'ing something longer, but I think it's only within the past year that they've really realized like we need to actually do this, do this.
*01:05:13*
And that might be a hard thing to sell right now at Microsoft given the Series X is selling worse than
*01:05:22*
The Series X and S are selling worse than um the Xbox One, which is crazy to think about and to say.
*01:05:30*
Um
*01:05:39*
So I don't know, but again, a handheld would work great with their overall strategy.
*01:05:40*
It's yet another Game Pass potential platform.
*01:05:46*
They could have it be like a portal slash dedicated handheld of its own where it could interact with your Xbox.
*01:05:50*
They've talked about that early on.
*01:05:57*
That was a vision of being able to use your Xbox as like a
*01:05:58*
a home server essentially and stream your game from the Xbox.
*01:06:02*
Honestly, that's probably what it would end up having to be, rather than like a dedicated handheld.
*01:06:06*
I mean it could be a dedicated handheld.
*01:06:11*
I mean that would be the portal.
*01:06:12*
That would that's exactly what a portal does.
*01:06:13*
Streams from the PlayStation.
*01:06:16*
It would probably have to be something along those lines because I can't see them coming out with a dedicated handheld that's, you know
*01:06:18*
Then they're releasing games specific to that handheld like Oh I don't think it I think it would be a thing where it like a Steam Deck where it just displays the games.
*01:06:25*
It's certain ga certain games would have to be maybe optimized for it in order
*01:06:34*
to play them they would have to go through the verified ones and stuff.
*01:06:38*
That's that would probably be most likely likely what it is.
*01:06:43*
And what's on Game Pass but a huge back catalog of first party Xbox games that run.
*01:06:47*
from an Xbox, a three sixty, and an Xbox One, like all of those could run on a Steam Deck like device.
*01:06:55*
And then you could stream Series X stuff to it or you know, those games also come to PC so they can be scaled down as
*01:07:02*
needed so I it it makes sense given the kind of the current landscape and the Steam Deck's been out for two years longer than that two three's been like going on three
*01:07:09*
Yeah.
*01:07:21*
So I I feel like they could do it.
*01:07:22*
I feel like that's the kind of tease.
*01:07:26*
I guess I'm wrong.
*01:07:28*
Steam Deck launched in February 2022.
*01:07:29*
So I mean yeah, I guess going on.
*01:07:33*
So two years.
*01:07:34*
A little over two years.
*01:07:35*
A little over two years.
*01:07:37*
I would hope so.
*01:07:38*
That would get me I mean I still like
*01:07:39*
My Xbox and I like interacting with the Xbox ecosystem, but when it comes to me sitting down on my couch to play something more often than not, what I am booting up is my PlayStation.
*01:07:41*
So I don't know man.
*01:07:49*
I don't know what's going on over there.
*01:07:51*
I'm hopeful.
*01:07:53*
I'm always hopeful, but they just like do not have the games for me
*01:07:54*
Specifically.
*01:07:59*
I don't even know if I'd say I'm hopeful at this point.
*01:08:00*
That's maybe the saddest part.
*01:08:02*
Yeah, that's pretty bad.
*01:08:04*
That's bad.
*01:08:05*
I just don't think this current group gets it.
*01:08:06*
But you know, maybe something will change.
*01:08:09*
Who knows?
*01:08:11*
Maybe.
*01:08:12*
Alright.
*01:08:14*
It's time for the big N.
*01:08:15*
You know, the one who holds the softest spot in my heart, Nintendo.
*01:08:19*
Like I said, this is a this is a weirder one this year though.
*01:08:24*
It is a weird year.
*01:08:27*
Because like all our predictions have to be somewhat
*01:08:28*
Like we're we're naturally reined in as it is because we they've already kind of set the stage of like I mean within reason.
*01:08:32*
I don't know.
*01:08:41*
Alright, I'll go with my big one first.
*01:08:42*
Oh, whoa he's coming out.
*01:08:44*
The year of Metroid is truly upon us.
*01:08:46*
Metroid Prime re-reveal.
*01:08:49*
It's out later this year.
*01:08:51*
Metroid Prime 2 and 3 remasters are also revealed.
*01:08:52*
They're out this summer.
*01:08:56*
I think they're gonna go two and three this summer, four and later this year.
*01:08:58*
Yeah.
*01:09:04*
I think this is just the Metroid direct.
*01:09:07*
I just
*01:09:10*
I don't I I've a I've mentally just set my brain to Metroid Prime 4 is a super switch game.
*01:09:13*
Or like Super Switch launch title.
*01:09:20*
As soon as it became apparent that the Switch 2 or whatever was going to release next year rather than this year, I was like, okay, well, I think this is now the Swan Song game.
*01:09:24*
Which feels fitting considering how long ago they revealed it and restarted the development on it.
*01:09:33*
So here's my thing though.
*01:09:40*
What was the Swanson game of the GameCube, Twilight Princess?
*01:09:42*
What was the Swansong game of the Wii U, Breath of the Wild?
*01:09:46*
And they were gonna talk about CrossGen.
*01:09:48*
Yeah, but I mean things are gonna be different I think with the next console because
*01:09:51*
Backward compatibility is seeming likely.
*01:09:55*
So there's really no and they've already confirmed that it's just gonna be, you know, an upgraded version of the current switch.
*01:09:57*
But the backward compatibility
*01:10:05*
The Wii U and Switch did break it.
*01:10:08*
Well I I guess what I'm saying is like obviously all these systems had like completely different playstyles to them.
*01:10:11*
Like
*01:10:16*
Motion was not a GameCube was not a Wii, a Wii U was not a Switch.
*01:10:18*
They have said now our next ha our next console, they haven't said straight up like this is Switch 2, but they have said like
*01:10:22*
One of their investors asked like is it fair they asked something about the next console and Nintendo's president said like it's fair to call it a new switch model.
*01:10:29*
So like switch two.
*01:10:38*
Like it's just gonna be upgraded, switch two, it's gonna be similar in its in its per and it's in what it does.
*01:10:39*
So there's not like a we drastic in the sense of similar controls and
*01:10:46*
hardware compatibility and things like that.
*01:10:52*
Wii Wii U is even like greatly different though, because they're like I mean again, they're they're the controllers were compatible with one another, but they're like, here's a big tablet, you know.
*01:10:54*
This is gonna be like, at the end of the day, this is gonna be like the internals are better, but you can still rip the Joy-Cons off the side of it and you can take it portably.
*01:11:04*
Yeah, it's gonna be something more like that, is what I'm
*01:11:13*
thinking, which means that there's really no reason to come out with a native Metroid Prime 4 port, I wouldn't think, if it had backward compatibility and maybe this next switch model would just come with some
*01:11:17*
See, this is maybe giving Nintendo a little bit too much credit for things that are in the middle of the state.
*01:11:29*
I don't see them doing like a PS4 Pro patch type scenario.
*01:11:32*
I don't see that.
*01:11:37*
I can't either.
*01:11:38*
I can't either.
*01:11:39*
But you know, maybe.
*01:11:40*
I don't know.
*01:11:41*
We'll see.
*01:11:43*
I I don't know.
*01:11:43*
My brain has resigned it for the next console, so that's why I don't really have hope for it.
*01:11:44*
Well, the reason I'll say that I I don't ascribe to that at all is because
*01:11:50*
This game's development restarted in 2019.
*01:11:57*
So Switch 2 was not even on their mind at that point.
*01:12:01*
I think it'll make January.
*01:12:05*
I assume it was on their mind.
*01:12:06*
I mean, you know the next hardware is always lingering and around the corner, but when Retro stepped in and started working on this game, like they were working on it for the Switch.
*01:12:08*
Um so unless they got somewhere within the past eighteen months to two years and they decided, hey, let's r r re re retrofit this game for
*01:12:18*
Uh or or let's let's switch what we're doing here pun intended and make it for switch two instead.
*01:12:28*
Um they would have had to come to that conclusion within the past again, like 18 months probably.
*01:12:33*
So I also though like
*01:12:38*
I mean, I feel like Breath of the Wild was the same though.
*01:12:41*
Like that game had multiple date windows that were supposed to be on the Wii Us Life.
*01:12:45*
And then at some point, they were like, well, we're just gonna put it on both now.
*01:12:51*
S and I get I get that they were more desperate in that window, like they needed a banger out of the gate for the switch to help propel it out of this Wii U darkness, but
*01:12:55*
At some point within the last five years, so Prime they announced Prime reboot in January of 2019.
*01:13:06*
So it's been four years.
*01:13:16*
Total reboot in the hands of Retro.
*01:13:18*
Like they clearly kind of saw the hype of Switch and over this course of development from this pre-production and hiring.
*01:13:21*
I mean Retro was hiring and
*01:13:30*
I think is still hiring forever on this game.
*01:13:32*
Like I feel like at some point they're like, we can put this on both.
*01:13:34*
You said it's been four years?
*01:13:38*
It's been five.
*01:13:40*
Nineteen.
*01:13:42*
Is that what you said?
*01:13:43*
Oh yeah, no, I did my math.
*01:13:43*
It's been five it's going on five and a half years.
*01:13:45*
That's why I think it has to come out like soon.
*01:13:47*
I mean, Breath of the Wild was announ or it was announced four years ahead of its release in 2013 in that
*01:13:51*
Direct.
*01:13:59*
So I mean I think there's something to be said about, you know, obviously Retro restarted from scrap.
*01:14:00*
So for from scratch.
*01:14:05*
So like
*01:14:07*
There's going to be a larger period of pre-production that they probably had to embark on before they started doing anything, but still.
*01:14:08*
Yeah.
*01:14:15*
Five and a half years.
*01:14:16*
Uncharted force situation where they tried to take
*01:14:17*
Take what they had and adapt to it.
*01:14:19*
But even then, like you know what type of game you're making in that sense, like, okay, we're making a Metroid Prime game.
*01:14:22*
This is gonna be a shooter.
*01:14:28*
You're gonna have a hand cannon.
*01:14:30*
We're gonna give you missiles.
*01:14:31*
Like it's a blast ball in there.
*01:14:32*
Make sure you have team co-op.
*01:14:34*
Yes.
*01:14:37*
Like you know the core tenets of like what the game is going to be at that point.
*01:14:38*
It's just like what's the story?
*01:14:41*
What are the new gameplay mechanics we can add?
*01:14:43*
And what are the locations?
*01:14:45*
Yeah.
*01:14:47*
And so like those are the things you really start to try.
*01:14:47*
to figure out.
*01:14:51*
So yeah, I feel like it's this year.
*01:14:52*
Four I I feel like it I'll I'll just say this.
*01:14:53*
I mean I know my pr other prediction is larger, but just like
*01:14:57*
Succinctly, like more straightforward, like if Metroid Prime 4 does not appear at this direct, I will be flabbergassed.
*01:15:01*
I will be shocked.
*01:15:10*
Like I think it ha whether or not it's a Switch 2 game or whatever, they they don't have to necessarily define what its platform is right here, or maybe it could end up being both, whatever.
*01:15:12*
But I think it absolutely appears, like, without a shadow of a doubt at this point.
*01:15:23*
Five and a half years were going on.
*01:15:29*
I mean, to support it a little bit, I mean
*01:15:31*
d uh when they revealed it it was just a JPEG, so um but to support you a little bit, I mean they did do the same thing with Breath of the Wild where they E3 twenty sixteen
*01:15:33*
was all Breath of the Wild, but exclusively on Wii U.
*01:15:45*
Like they only showed Wii U hardware because they hadn't shown off NX yet at the time.
*01:15:48*
And so they can show Metroid Prime 4, and one of the predictions I wrote down, I won't use it, but I said Metroid Prime 4 is shown, but no date.
*01:15:53*
Like they can show it and it doesn't have to be they don't also have to say it's coming to Super Switch.
*01:16:02*
They can just show it off.
*01:16:08*
So and then
*01:16:09*
You know, whatever later.
*01:16:11*
So But yeah, you're going whole hog on Prime here.
*01:16:12*
And I mean that would be really good for our other shows.
*01:16:18*
I was just saying, let's do let's do it.
*01:16:20*
Let's do it for chapter select.
*01:16:22*
Let's
*01:16:23*
Let's get started.
*01:16:24*
Come on, Reggie.
*01:16:25*
Help us out.
*01:16:26*
Exactly.
*01:16:27*
Alright, to to kind of go off of what you've said.
*01:16:29*
This might be too big of a time gap for it, but it's Port City this year.
*01:16:34*
The end of the Switch's life will see at least five more HD ports.
*01:16:42*
Okay.
*01:16:47*
Four remasters at a minimum will appear in this direct.
*01:16:52*
Uh yeah, I mean we're banking on
*01:16:57*
You and I, I think four of them are the same.
*01:17:01*
I want to stress that that's anything, not just like meant to no first party.
*01:17:03*
Any remasters.
*01:17:07*
Oh, four remasters.
*01:17:08*
Of any sort, yes.
*01:17:10*
Okay.
*01:17:12*
They could be like, this classic game from Bandai Namco is coming back.
*01:17:13*
Yeah.
*01:17:18*
Or whatever.
*01:17:19*
You know, anything like that.
*01:17:19*
Capcom vs.
*01:17:21*
SNK.
*01:17:22*
From the we sure four remasters.
*01:17:23*
Okay, out of minimum.
*01:17:25*
So that's a little different.
*01:17:27*
Well, I said HD Ports.
*01:17:28*
I guess it's the same camp.
*01:17:30*
Port City.
*01:17:31*
I uh I think that you and I generally are kind of feeling like Prime Two and Three count would count in this camp.
*01:17:33*
Yeah and Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are like the other ones kind of look
*01:17:42*
Like that we're kind of inflating our numbers based off these long held rumors.
*01:17:46*
Um I do personally still believe in Kid Icarus Uprising.
*01:17:50*
Like I feel like
*01:17:53*
That is a 3DS game that could totally make the jump.
*01:17:56*
I could see Fire Emblem Awakening.
*01:17:59*
You know, that was the game that kind of kickstarted this new generation of Fire Emblem.
*01:18:01*
Like I know they just came out with a Fire Emblem game, which is why I don't think
*01:18:04*
We'll see that franchise right now, but yeah, I think there's going to see at least five HD ports of something.
*01:18:08*
So that's my first, and that was your second.
*01:18:17*
So I'll jump right into my second one.
*01:18:20*
Donkey Kong 64.
*01:18:23*
Comes to NSL.
*01:18:26*
Okay.
*01:18:29*
Has it not already?
*01:18:29*
No.
*01:18:31*
I checked.
*01:18:31*
I double checked.
*01:18:32*
It was a big deal when it came to Wii U Virtual Console, and that obviously just shut down not terribly long ago.
*01:18:33*
Um I know there's some like rights holdups there, but Nintendo and Microsoft work together.
*01:18:39*
They've obviously been able to port it before.
*01:18:44*
I really what I'm really looking at is this trend of like Super Mario Brothers Wonder, Princess Peach Showdown.
*01:18:46*
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
*01:18:53*
I get Mario and Donkey Kong came out, but that's not a Donkey Kong game.
*01:18:55*
That's so weird that they did that remaster.
*01:19:01*
I like that game a lot, and that's a weird one.
*01:19:03*
To me, it's just
*01:19:05*
I feel like they need the Donkey Kong game because it feels like all in response to the movie.
*01:19:07*
Like they're just like, we need to get games with these individual characters out to market.
*01:19:12*
And so I've previously predicted, you know, a new Donkey Kong game, even that Donkey Kong 3D platformer game, but like I've reigned it way in.
*01:19:18*
I'm picking
*01:19:29*
Taking the unlikely one and putting it on NSL like Donkeyon 64 will be available for a subscription
*01:19:30*
That's where I'm I would I would like that.
*01:19:41*
I mean uh yeah they've done they've done it with Goldeneye so shows and the Goldeneye uh arguably had even
*01:19:44*
Trigger rights issues.
*01:19:51*
Yeah.
*01:19:53*
So if they if they didn't have a couple of things, Nintendo has the exclusive multiplayer rights.
*01:19:54*
That's why there's no online multiplayer on the Xbox.
*01:19:58*
Yeah.
*01:20:02*
I can see that one.
*01:20:03*
That would be a good one Can I just really quick a brief tangent?
*01:20:04*
Why on earth does anyone who owns the rare replay physically n
*01:20:08*
Can't play Goldeneye.
*01:20:12*
Why?
*01:20:14*
I don't know.
*01:20:15*
That's a really weird one.
*01:20:15*
I forgot about that.
*01:20:16*
It's so stupid.
*01:20:18*
You have to buy rare replay digitally or subscribe to Game Pass to play Goldeneye.
*01:20:19*
Every other Xbox included lets you just put in a disc and then play the digital version of those games.
*01:20:26*
How do you think all this Xbox emulation works?
*01:20:33*
It's it's not hard, Microsoft.
*01:20:36*
Give people who own the game the license to the game that was included for free with everyone else.
*01:20:40*
And make 'em put the disc in to play it.
*01:20:47*
But this stupid Phil Spencer, fix it.
*01:20:49*
Tangent over.
*01:20:54*
I think they're passed.
*01:20:55*
Fixing that.
*01:20:57*
But yes, I do agree.
*01:20:58*
I forgot that was an issue.
*01:20:59*
And that's a weird one.
*01:21:02*
Alright.
*01:21:03*
What are we on?
*01:21:04*
My third one.
*01:21:05*
Yes, sir.
*01:21:06*
Uh
*01:21:08*
I have that a new Zelda game of some sort will be revealed.
*01:21:11*
Just anything.
*01:21:17*
New
*01:21:19*
Or well, let me just say a Zelda game, not nukes.
*01:21:20*
Oh, okay.
*01:21:23*
So you're really leaning you're really hoping for Wind Waker Twilight Princess.
*01:21:24*
So yeah, this could be the ports, this could be obviously the sequel to Tears of the Kingdom, which would not happen.
*01:21:28*
Um I just have a Zelda game of some sort will be revealed.
*01:21:34*
That this could also include Switch Online games.
*01:21:37*
I'm gonna count that.
*01:21:40*
There will be Zelda presence at this show.
*01:21:41*
Okay.
*01:21:44*
I agree.
*01:21:45*
Um Zelda is an annual franchise.
*01:21:46*
I don't know if you've caught that, but Zelda Zelda game comes out every year.
*01:21:48*
I I would hope it's the port.
*01:21:52*
Just give us just give us the ports.
*01:21:54*
In fact, and don't milk the money out of us.
*01:21:56*
We know they exist.
*01:21:58*
Pack 'em into a single bundle.
*01:21:59*
I'll pay a hundred bucks for 'em or something.
*01:22:01*
Come on, let's just let's just do it.
*01:22:04*
Okay.
*01:22:06*
Well, I was saving this for the end, but I'm gonna bounce I'm gonna jump off you right now because it's Zelda related.
*01:22:07*
Okay.
*01:22:12*
The Zelda games for the year are the Oracle game remakes instead of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
*01:22:13*
I mean aren't didn't Capcom make those?
*01:22:23*
They did, yes, Capcom did make those.
*01:22:26*
So here's why I think it, besides like a two-year-old rumor that those games were in the works.
*01:22:28*
It follows the pattern of Link's Awakening coming out after Breath of the Wild, that remake on the Switch.
*01:22:36*
It follows the Triforce Heroes model of reusing the assets.
*01:22:42*
and bringing just like an old game up to modern hardware.
*01:22:47*
And those games in particular had very cool interconnectivity.
*01:22:51*
Um, the rumor even talked about bringing that the long-lost third game into the mix.
*01:22:55*
I don't necessarily buy into that.
*01:23:00*
But I just feel like
*01:23:02*
That's what they would do because it's so different from Tears of the Kingdom that they would do that.
*01:23:04*
And then the Switch the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess either never come or come even
*01:23:10*
later.
*01:23:16*
I don't know.
*01:23:17*
So uh but I think it's the Oracle games instead of Wind Awaker and Twilight Princess.
*01:23:18*
So I'm specifically saying that we don't see those two and we see Oracle games instead
*01:23:23*
That would be quite the pivot and it wouldn't be one that I would love to be totally honest.
*01:23:29*
But I know.
*01:23:34*
I don't think those games are bad, but I just want I want my big AAA.
*01:23:34*
Zeldas on current hardware.
*01:23:40*
So even though we use current enough, I suppose, but I went on
*01:23:42*
Currenter hardware.
*01:23:49*
Um okay currenter.
*01:23:51*
Let me speaking of currenter hardware, I'll do this one.
*01:23:53*
Uh Switch 2 won't be revealed.
*01:23:58*
Nintendo's already said as much.
*01:24:00*
But Nintendo will say when they plan to finally talk more about it.
*01:24:02*
So they will s like acknowledge the elephant in the room.
*01:24:08*
I think it would be so weird if they go through this direct and don't say anything.
*01:24:11*
So on one level, I think that will absolutely happen.
*01:24:16*
But also I think they should just like just acknowledge it.
*01:24:21*
Just we all know what's going on.
*01:24:24*
Just just say something about it.
*01:24:26*
Just be like, yeah, we've acknowledged it.
*01:24:28*
We're working on a new console.
*01:24:30*
Today is not the day to talk about it, but we'll share more.
*01:24:31*
This fall.
*01:24:35*
Boom.
*01:24:37*
Done.
*01:24:37*
That's all you need to do.
*01:24:38*
Just say something.
*01:24:39*
I just I don't
*01:24:41*
I feel like Nintendo only talks about hardware far, far in advance, or like says they'll talk about something later, uh, when they're in a position of desperation, or they're not in a position of strength, rather.
*01:24:43*
to change the phrase.
*01:24:56*
And obviously the switch is selling like hotcakes.
*01:24:57*
So I just I feel like they don't want to talk about it and they've only acknowledged what they have because it's investor calls and then
*01:25:00*
things are coming up and investors dark.
*01:25:07*
Well they also had the, you know, this is for Okawa.
*01:25:10*
We will talk more about the uh the the Switch successor later in this physical year.
*01:25:12*
I mean they've already done that whole
*01:25:19*
Thing.
*01:25:21*
So So yeah, we'll see.
*01:25:22*
I don't know.
*01:25:24*
But I I just I don't see them addressing it.
*01:25:24*
If they they'll focus on the games they have.
*01:25:26*
Speaking of the games they have.
*01:25:29*
We've talked about it this whole chunk.
*01:25:32*
It's the end of the Switch's life.
*01:25:34*
It's coming to an end.
*01:25:37*
At the end of any Nintendo console, one character always reappears.
*01:25:38*
It's time for a Kirby game.
*01:25:44*
Oh gosh.
*01:25:47*
We just had one.
*01:25:48*
A couple of years ago.
*01:25:49*
I feel like we've had ten of them on the Switch.
*01:25:50*
We've had like two remasters or something.
*01:25:53*
Return to Dreamland and uh that other Star Allies, I think.
*01:25:55*
And we had the uh
*01:25:59*
Forgotten.
*01:26:03*
Yeah, something.
*01:26:05*
It's time for another Kirby game.
*01:26:06*
It could be Robobot.
*01:26:07*
Uh, you know, that was the one that's super beloved on 3DS.
*01:26:09*
But like a Kirby game will appear in some capacity.
*01:26:12*
It's the end of the switch it's the end of a console lifecycle.
*01:26:16*
You have to have Kirby show up.
*01:26:19*
I hope not, but you know.
*01:26:22*
Okay.
*01:26:26*
I mean, I guess I don't even not I don't know.
*01:26:27*
Maybe saying I hope not too strong or whatever, but you just don't care about Kirby.
*01:26:29*
I just don't care.
*01:26:34*
But yes, that's a probably a good safe prediction the more I think about it.
*01:26:35*
it it's easy to just whip those games out.
*01:26:39*
Mm-hmm.
*01:26:41*
Um all right, I'll kind of stick in the same vein, but very different.
*01:26:42*
Well, this is actually not even the same vein whatsoever.
*01:26:48*
Alright, I have just wrote written down it's Star Fox time, baby.
*01:26:52*
Take that as you will.
*01:26:58*
Take that as you will.
*01:27:00*
I don't know what that means.
*01:27:01*
I I I will say to be specific, I just think Star Fox shows up in some capacity.
*01:27:03*
It could be a sequel to even that Ubisoft game.
*01:27:09*
I don't know.
*01:27:13*
But I think Star Fox, I think Fox McLeod appears.
*01:27:13*
And says, all our wings report in, and it's something.
*01:27:16*
Star Fox Zero Remaster.
*01:27:20*
Please know.
*01:27:23*
Nintendo Switch Online, something or another.
*01:27:24*
I don't know.
*01:27:27*
It's gonna be something.
*01:27:27*
Star Fox will be a little bit more.
*01:27:29*
Oh, Star Fox 99 kind of game could be interesting.
*01:27:30*
I'm sure they would come up with something zany for that.
*01:27:33*
I almost I almost picked a Star Fox one.
*01:27:35*
I actually went to my shelf.
*01:27:39*
and looked at the Star Fox games and was like, what is the cadence here?
*01:27:41*
And it was like, N64, GameCube, Skip the Wii, Wii U.
*01:27:45*
And there was a DS game in there and a 3DS or
*01:27:50*
remake in there and then Wii U and then nothing for Switch.
*01:27:52*
So I kind of was like, well maybe they're just skipping the Switch uh for a new Star Fox game.
*01:27:56*
But I just
*01:28:01*
I didn't think it was time for Star Fox, because I thought it was time for another IP to be revived.
*01:28:04*
To rise up from the ashes.
*01:28:11*
It's time for punch out.
*01:28:15*
That would be an interesting one.
*01:28:18*
There was with the Joy-Cons.
*01:28:20*
Yeah, and arms kicked off the console cycle.
*01:28:24*
And there was a rumor a few years ago that Next Level Games was working on Punch Out in some capacity, and I feel like it's been a while since Luigi's Mansion 3.
*01:28:27*
I don't believe they are doing Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, and if they are, that it cannot be that heavy of a lift, and like Punch Out would have been in works before that, I think.
*01:28:36*
Uh but I think Punch Out makes a comeback.
*01:28:45*
Now, is it Punch Out from the Wii?
*01:28:47*
Just up, you know, an HD remaster?
*01:28:51*
Could be.
*01:28:54*
That game's supposed to be very, very good, and one that I've I've wanted to add to my collection for some time.
*01:28:54*
But I think it's new.
*01:28:59*
I think there's a new punch out energy.
*01:29:00*
I think it could work.
*01:29:03*
So Punch Out is the revival.
*01:29:04*
You gotta you gotta get it in there before the Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight, and then you can have the ring beat decked out and punch out uh marketing.
*01:29:08*
Might uh for the for this game for punch out.
*01:29:20*
You couldn't.
*01:29:23*
You could Mr.
*01:29:23*
Dream.
*01:29:24*
I actually wasn't even thinking about that when I said that, but yeah, that would actually be the perfect crossover.
*01:29:25*
He could come out and say, Thank you everybody for watching this fight and I'll go buy Mike Tyson's punch out.
*01:29:29*
Come to Swish this fall.
*01:29:35*
My dad wants to watch that fight.
*01:29:36*
I hope that fight lasts fifteen seconds and I can just watch a clip of it on Twitter.
*01:29:39*
Yeah, my dad wants to watch it just to see this to see Mike Tyson clean.
*01:29:44*
Uh Jake, it's Jake, right?
*01:29:48*
He's fighting Jake to clean Jake Paul's claw.
*01:29:49*
It's essentially the plot of Rocky Six when you really think about it.
*01:29:53*
Like they're just getting the old retiree dog out there to fight the young young TikTok influencer.
*01:29:56*
This is gonna be bad.
*01:30:02*
It's gonna be bad.
*01:30:03*
They're gonna stretch the fight out like they did in the one that
*01:30:05*
What's his name?
*01:30:08*
McGregor?
*01:30:09*
Uh no, his brother.
*01:30:11*
Was it Logan Pollan he fought?
*01:30:13*
Mayweather.
*01:30:15*
Did they drag that out?
*01:30:17*
I didn't watch that.
*01:30:18*
They did like 10 rounds.
*01:30:20*
And it's like, dude, Mayweather, you could have knocked him out at any point in this fight if you actually
*01:30:21*
wanted to.
*01:30:26*
I fear it's going to be the same thing that like probably Tyson could probably I Tyson is older so maybe not but
*01:30:27*
No, he could probably still dock an amateur or a novice out in no time if he really wanted to.
*01:30:34*
Yeah, so I think um yeah that
*01:30:42*
I will be dumb.
*01:30:45*
But I do think Punch Out returns to the Switch.
*01:30:45*
So you know Nintendo
*01:30:48*
Our predictions seem to indicate kind of a like a a lull of remasters and ports and bringing things back, kind of just to ease the Switch into its sunset years with maybe, you know, one or two new games.
*01:30:53*
Xbox.
*01:31:06*
They're doing stuff.
*01:31:09*
Nothing.
*01:31:10*
We didn't really seem to predict anything for this year's more future stuff, which Xbox is really good at promising things for the future.
*01:31:11*
And then Sony kicked everything off with kind of a whimper.
*01:31:18*
So it's it's a saw, it's a light summer this year.
*01:31:21*
Hopefully next year with the new switch, that'd be an exciting time.
*01:31:24*
Pump some things up.
*01:31:28*
You know, PS5 Pro should be out by then if ever the market's indicating.
*01:31:30*
So we should be able to do it.
*01:31:34*
Yeah, so next year should be very big and anticipatory, but
*01:31:37*
This year's easy.
*01:31:43*
And you know what?
*01:31:44*
I'm okay with like a cool year, at least on the Nintendo side of things.
*01:31:45*
Like I'm I'm chipping away at the backlog of some stuff and and all that jazz.
*01:31:49*
So
*01:31:54*
Same.
*01:31:55*
You and me both.
*01:31:56*
You and me both.
*01:31:57*
Hopefully most of all though, let's hope it is the year of Metroid Prime for chapter select so we can
*01:31:58*
have these you know truly cash in on that on that that hotness.
*01:32:05*
Put it certainly would put a fire under our butt to uh crank it out in time for prime for
*01:32:11*
So that would be really, really fun.
*01:32:16*
But until then, and until the Summer Games Fest and all the other stuff.
*01:32:18*
I think that does it for us today.
*01:32:23*
So thank you all so much for listening.
*01:32:26*
If you'd like, you can find Logan over at comicbook.
