Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Max Frequency Podcast.
*00:00*
I mean it.
*00:00*
Um, I think it's just most notable that they close these three or four.
*00:00*
And by no means am I saying that they deserve to get shut down.
*00:00*
different things.
*00:00*
And coupled with our partnership with Netflix, we remain highly confident that Bioshock will continue to captivate and engage audiences like never before.
*00:00*
So we'll see.
*00:00*
I thought it was incredible.
*00:00*
and like ratchet and clank and just the zany weapon design and I think that skull gun gives me kind of a a hope that they're gonna have even more kind of goofy
*00:00*
Uh I kind of feel like Xbox might take a similar route um to tap into those markets um makes sense to me.
*00:00*
But then you watch the gameplay for it and it's like, what makes this any different than any other hero shooter?
*00:00*
Ha do you want them to introduce all these characters in a serious tone?
*00:00*
And it's classic Dragon Age.
*00:00*
So that isn't a huge change for me and I'm fine with that.
*00:00*
Um in the PS move controllers.
*00:00*
I'm like, what are we doing here?
*00:00*
And that's everything that they've been saying about Perfect Dark has like spoken to that.
*00:00*
Going forward.
*00:00*
Mm-hmm.
*00:00*
Fragpunk, the only thing I wanted to mention about this is in my opinion, it did more in 30 seconds to sell me on why I should check out this hero shooter over Concord.
*00:00*
Um, you know, they've said some things that are like a couple of red flags have gone up, like puzzles are optional in the sense of not that a player could skip them, but like they're out of the way and off of the main path, which
*00:00*
That man seemed like he was living out his dream despite creating some of the biggest game franchises of all time.
*00:00*
Yeah, to me, there's only two studios that deliver on a fast cadence with the level of quality, and that's Insomniac and From Software.
*00:00*
It's got pinks, purples, greens, blues all scattered throughout it.
*00:00*
Uh Marcus and Dom.
*00:00*
Uh the Gears fans in my life popped off.
*00:00*
uh the coalition teamed up with blur studio who are legendary for cg trailers um to they made the trailer with quote in-game assets in unreal engine five end quote
*00:00*
I'm like, I don't know what the hell I'm doing here.
*00:00*
And apparently what Todd has perceived is I would not be surprised if there is a fallout RPG spin-off announced or whatever here within the next year.
*00:00*
They've been buying all these teams, they've been announcing all these games, they've been doing these things, but I think for the first time, there are multiple games from Xbox, from a first party perspective.
*00:00*
Uh you can find Jared online.
*00:00*
and Tango Gameworks, Tango I think being the most surprising of the bunch, and Arkane more so to me in name and its association with Arcane.
*00:00*
from all over the place.
*00:00*
Um this year it just makes the most sense for it to be there.
*00:00*
Now with Doom of the Dark Ages coming out, I'm planning to go back, play that, and it's DLC.
*00:00*
But just a slightly.
*00:00*
don't remember his name.
*00:00*
I want to say a shoe-in.
*00:00*
Uh Logan, myself, and and Michael Reese were working at Dual Shockers at the time and we got codes.
*00:00*
Not so much.
*00:00*
So Prince of Persia lost crown came out.
*00:00*
One I've beaten.
*00:00*
Square Enix teamed up with the team who's doing Metaphor Refantasio, the the Persona team.
*00:00*
Studio right.
*00:00*
Crocodile, alligator.
*00:00*
'Cause she's talking to her boat, which is a fish instead of a lion.
*00:00*
uh what do they call it master collection like the emulation on that is not where I would hope something would be at for especially games of that pedigree but then you'll get
*00:00*
It's like their bread and butter.
*00:00*
And it was like just straight up in Russian.
*00:00*
And they just zip.
*00:00*
than age empires, but when Age of Mythology came out and I said like you can just I like I said I put on all the cheats I'd run around destroying all the other civilizations with raws like Sunbeam just having a blast
*00:00*
I was like, wow, it's here.
*00:00*
So not only seeing it plus the gameplay, when there was no data, I was like, yeah, I I I'm not like I it didn't bother me because I'm like, I'm just I was shocked that we got gameplay let alone the game up here.
*00:00*
And you know, people might say, like, oh, those are too steep of expectations.
*00:00*
I'm cool with it.
*00:00*
It's like, oh, why do you compare these games directly?
*00:00*
that that life is strange vibes kind of like the first one, which is funny, uh, because a couple of games later, Life is Strange double exposure comes.
*00:00*
Uh the Captain Uh Captain Spirit, the adventure one coming out.
*00:00*
Ah, darn it.
*00:00*
should say.
*00:00*
Some of it's justified for Fall at 76 and all of that.
*00:00*
I mean billions of people, man, it's one of the most now China itself, not really a huge fan of the you know
*00:00*
things like The Witcher, you could see a little bit, not that it's first person in that sense, but it feels like it is trying to stand apart and be different in that sense.
*00:00*
Kind of like me with Indiana Jones, I'd be very intrigued for you to hop into this as your fear first gears because chronologically, obviously, it it's the first one in the timeline, and it's
*00:00*
We we hang out and talk all the time.
*00:00*
I've I've come to it's become one of my favorite franchises.
*00:00*
And so on and so forth.
*00:00*
I'm like skimming these screenshots.
*00:00*
Um not only is them making a 007 game a match made in heaven, uh, but now that Amazon owns a significant chunk of 007, like I think they'll they'll get their money.
*00:00*
So we'll see if that's a good thing.
*00:00*
Um but a lot's changed.
*00:00*
division.
*00:00*
Um all of the Crash games, the Spyro games, potentially the Transformers games, if there's no weird licensing stuff, on the Xbox catalog, which is huge.
*00:00*
Leases, which is also huge, not weird pre-order bonuses and exclusive skins and all that, which is nice.
*00:00*
via consolidation there's less publishers out there, right?
*00:00*
without saying like, oh, we're still going to continue to bring in those profit margins you see on this document, but we're going to kind of implement ways in which it can grow the Xbox brand as well.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
things like that.
*00:00*
third party deals as time goes on, because clearly the the subscription model for games is here to stay, and not just a Game Pass perspective, but the same applies to PlayStation Plus and it's
*00:00*
Um oh, what's that other game?
*00:00*
Um you end up laying off a lot of people.
*00:00*
Um not necessarily surprising after um oh Redfall.
*00:00*
Uh one article I think from CNBC that I read talked about how they laid off 1900 people at the start of 2024, and that was before they shut down three or four studios, most notably Arcane Austin.
*00:00*
It's a it's a shame that that happened that way.
*00:00*
Obviously Arcane as a whole is very talented.
*00:00*
Honestly, what it reminds me of a lot of is the World of Warcraft chase of everyone coming out with an MMO in the 2000s and everyone there were some that survived and were good.
*00:00*
he's blameless, but I also don't believe that he necessarily was the one that was like, okay, I'll choose this studio, this studio, this studio, you know?
*00:00*
There was something weird that happened where Microsoft didn't really believe in the leadership coalition there to lead the studio forward.
*00:00*
It's more so, like I said, it being in a cheap place to run a game studio, it being their only foothold in Japan.
*00:00*
Some tax credits, government things, fairly cheap place comparatively.
*00:00*
to run a game studio.
*00:00*
For the simple fact that until we see what their game is, I am not going to believe that they are not a Call of Duty support studio.
*00:00*
And we've got we're right in I think this one was like right in Santa Monica and we're pulling talent from PlayStation Santa Monica Studios and Naughty Dog and Riot and
*00:00*
uh of certain studios and teams.
*00:00*
As it were.
*00:00*
And that's the other point of like closing these studios is it seems like fixing and maintaining a currently existing studio seems a lot easier than spinning up one out of
*00:00*
uh in particular one with Colin Moriarty over at Sacred Symbols, one of the the plus interviews or something, um talked about how essentially was just given time.
*00:00*
Thin air, you know what I mean?
*00:00*
So I hope not.
*00:00*
I think companies are seeing a lot more of like, let's try and get these kind of close together uh to be released so that we can Real quick, on your mention of the Bioshock Netflix show,
*00:00*
Mm-hmm.
*00:00*
adaptation.
*00:00*
Which I even forgot was a thing.
*00:00*
Uh I feel tumultuous might be too strong.
*00:00*
twenty four here in E three, not E three, don't call it E three.
*00:00*
This showcase, incredible.
*00:00*
But specifically I thought it had a good range and variety of games.
*00:00*
And out of the 30 things they showed, I was interested in 21 of them to various extents, obviously.
*00:00*
But we are at a point now where those end up being like ancillary extra streams that happen after the show, right?
*00:00*
have to be something they charge for and they're continuing to stick to their guns on if it is an Xbox Game Studios slash under our umbrella, it comes to Game Pass day one.
*00:00*
to Game Pass now.
*00:00*
things moving forward forever.
*00:00*
scene, right?
*00:00*
But it was him hopping into the Doomslayer hopping into a mech, fighting another large beast, and then we saw the dragon stuff.
*00:00*
Like I am not that cut up caught up on it.
*00:00*
hung up on that, but it is the internet.
*00:00*
Like, I don't think I I don't remember what his last name is, but Marty I I can't I can't believe he said.
*00:00*
Um That's a halo guy, yeah.
*00:00*
He was like in uh the no clip documentary.
*00:00*
Yeah, very bad stuff with Undead Labs.
*00:00*
Um working joyfully in an interview with Triple A.
*00:00*
flabbergasted that it showed up.
*00:00*
This is like a huge plus for the Xbox community because there a lot of people are like, oh, there's no shot.
*00:00*
Fable people were.
*00:00*
He's Star Lord, like it's it's crazy.
*00:00*
And then Bioware was like, yo, chill, we're releasing twenty minutes of gameplay in a couple of days.
*00:00*
Inquisition.
*00:00*
Eventually it comes out that he's like an ancient god, like a bad dude, uh, which is a really cool twist.
*00:00*
So the game was originally called Dragon Age Dread Wolf, and it was revealed that he was going to be the big bad, which got people excited.
*00:00*
uh is what I've been told.
*00:00*
Uh what's the deal with it?
*00:00*
It's always hard for me to come back to those games.
*00:00*
My like my brain isn't in that zone.
*00:00*
Um so that is definitely a boon in this type of scenario or waiting to come to something later.
*00:00*
But there's some stuff that comes out up at the end of the narrative that I was unfortunately partially spoiled on that I'm excited to get to when this comes out.
*00:00*
Oftentimes you have to pay for the DLC for these games, which I don't mind doing.
*00:00*
and at least unique in that sense and refreshing, which was uh Claire Obscure Expedition 33, which is the most Kingdom Hearts name I've heard in a while.
*00:00*
Uh but an interesting concept narratively, it sounds like.
*00:00*
That's a good way to put it.
*00:00*
Simply because they revealed it last year and it kind of thought, eh, it'll take pause.
*00:00*
uh the character she interacted with, the guy playing the banjo.
*00:00*
So it has a little bit of a like a Spider-Verse.
*00:00*
and obviously the catfish.
*00:00*
next year, which is awesome.
*00:00*
Similar to like a New Age Tomb Raider.
*00:00*
Just like big news chunks.
*00:00*
f uh releases from like reveal to release tighter windows there.
*00:00*
uh not to not Kenna, but this is more compelling to me visually.
*00:00*
Um I I have to say I there's a history of Metal Gear Solid being on Xbox all the way back to the original Xbox with Metal Gear Solid 2.
*00:00*
We see proper gameplay and and trailer stuff for Metaguear Solid Delta, and then more stuff came out uh in the following days as well.
*00:00*
Uh but I'm super curious what you think, because as you wrote in our document, you have never played a Metal Gear solid game.
*00:00*
and the tank controls are like a non-starter for me.
*00:00*
And you know, the whole situation.
*00:00*
the original game.
*00:00*
they want over there at Capcom.
*00:00*
uh one of the few games I think from the showcase that is not coming to Game Pass.
*00:00*
Uh at the F shout up to the weird GameStop tweet mix up with the release date.
*00:00*
games of service games because these things can get shut down at a moment's notice and you never know, right?
*00:00*
I always want Rare to have success in everything they do.
*00:00*
But I think this is the big difference between something like the Xbox Showcase and like Summer Game Fest, where Summer Game Fest had a lot of actual ads with Samsung and all that, but a lot of trailers that feel like advertisements.
*00:00*
And with the showcase I d I think it didn't really have any of those outside of the Flintlock trailer.
*00:00*
from the older games.
*00:00*
They had Age of Mythology, and it was one of those games where you hop on, you put on all the cheats, and you just have fun.
*00:00*
Loki wasn't cool back then, you know what I mean?
*00:00*
And it is nice to see, you know, these aren't games that everyone tunes in for for the Xbox showcase.
*00:00*
Again.
*00:00*
with this game.
*00:00*
Use your covert ops, all of that stuff I think played really well.
*00:00*
I love that they showcased the gadgets.
*00:00*
And it ends up coming out as a, you know, it's high hopes, but it is what it is.
*00:00*
If Xbox is going to commit to selling it for what it is, it needs a deliver on that.
*00:00*
Uh, which Logan predicted that Perfect Dark would not show up at all, which is very funny.
*00:00*
stealth game in my life.
*00:00*
like seeped into the development of Metal Gear Solid 5 and now he gets to do whatever he wants with whoever he wants.
*00:00*
uh for a new d expansion, correct?
*00:00*
Uh and we did not, which was Fable.
*00:00*
Because Playgrounds has been making some of the best open world games of the generation.
*00:00*
spent the most time in.
*00:00*
I do think they haven't age very well in terms of like gameplay mechanics and stuff, so I would be like, eh, just don't worry about it.
*00:00*
Which is awesome.
*00:00*
out and I am not a racing game guy, I'm not a car guy, none of that.
*00:00*
And then I do think th they're gonna sit on this because they wanna prove to people that playground games can make a non-racing game.
*00:00*
You know, I we know you love Bethesda, we know you love all these studios.
*00:00*
But it was the humor that was most important and it's like the the decision making because before the Mass Effects of the world, uh, they truly did the decisions have consequences stuff and
*00:00*
I do think this has a chance to be up there, maybe not necessarily in like the 10 out of 10 critical acclaim, but in terms of like it being Xbox's game, where we're finally not talking about just Gears and Hate.
*00:00*
Halo, you know?
*00:00*
The thing with that is like it immediately showed what made it different.
*00:00*
With Concord, like we talked about before, cinematic, really engaging, really funny, personality, all that stuff.
*00:00*
I just wanted to point out that Fragpunk, this game we didn't really know about, uh sold me in a way that Concord didn't, which I think is hard to do in the hero shooter space.
*00:00*
You can you know give it a a nice little plug there.
*00:00*
I'm gonna check it out because it's launching in Game Pass, which, you know, I love Game Pass for that, because this is a game that I might not give a chance, if not otherwise.
*00:00*
It feels very Wes Anderson, which I also like.
*00:00*
like this.
*00:00*
Yeah, Shadow Drop.
*00:00*
Uh starring Max Caulfield, which I'm super stoked for, and very intrigued by the the the narrative plot of it being two separate realities uh where your friend is dead in one and alive in the other.
*00:00*
original developer, so how is that gonna work out?
*00:00*
True, and that just probably means I'm older than I think.
*00:00*
Deanna Jones.
*00:00*
games of like we got the Indiana Jones license you guys gotta work on it you know and that's never been said I'm just assuming that that might have been a case which I hope not um but yeah I'm excited to hop into it.
*00:00*
But what I'm saying is it valuable in terms of their cadence of release and the quality of release?
*00:00*
I mean gosh, they put out on the PS3 alone they put out Uncharted 1, 2, 3, and The Last of Us, plus The Last of Us is DLC.
*00:00*
the moment.
*00:00*
Isn't my favorite of the bunch?
*00:00*
I was like, wow.
*00:00*
Um a lot of games dipping into these uh Chinese mythology settings lately, it seems.
*00:00*
Um but yeah, this is a lot of Chinese studios are now going more global, right?
*00:00*
Um, I'm obviously a little delayed with that stuff, but I'm always a sucker for a good Souls like.
*00:00*
It's weird.
*00:00*
So yes, Wu Chang, Fallen Feathers.
*00:00*
you tend to feel more generic as weird as that is.
*00:00*
Remember the days, Max, when we were complaining why is every game brown or orange or whatever.
*00:00*
news cycles as much as possible.
*00:00*
Um which is good.
*00:00*
Um I need to pay more attention closely.
*00:00*
They literally do two different missions with them and it shows the gameplay difference between the two.
*00:00*
Like, oh, they're like, and now we have an all-digital Xbox Series X.
*00:00*
Um this one reminds me a lot of the Infinite Special Edition console.
*00:00*
with a color or part.
*00:00*
I'm blanking on the name of the the base enemy, that they were cannon fodder, that they'd become like nothing to really worry about.
*00:00*
And I would love to play with Logan.
*00:00*
I we did that with Resident Evil.
*00:00*
It's gonna be the engine that's used and it makes sense.
*00:00*
We're going back to basics, boots on the ground.
*00:00*
Game for PlayStation.
*00:00*
And then they signed a deal with Microsoft to publish their own independent new game project.
*00:00*
Call of Duty Support Studio.
*00:00*
Until you wrote it down.
*00:00*
games since the 360 to South of Midnight where it's being original or these really cool unique third-party games like Expedition 33 or Metal Gear Solid Delta.
*00:00*
2025 is already shaping up to be a really good year.
*00:00*
Oh my gosh.
*00:00*
And now we've kind of been in a drought in terms of an awesome showcase for PlayStation, which they were much better at having consistently, you know?
*00:00*
you know, and not a console war thing, but just like from both aspects of it, we have like a a nice plate to look forward to, which is a bummer that the whole Insomniac League thing happened because I think that also
*00:00*
sustain this generation, it feels like to a degree.
*00:00*
Uh I always look forward to these discussions with you.
*00:00*
And then controlled interest, of course, been on a bit of a pause due to crazy wild life things, totally understandable, but
*00:00*
Uh you definitely should go check that show out and its back catalog and all that stuff over controlled interest.
*00:00*
Elon.
*00:00*
But we've done things like Pokemon or Banjo and Kazooie.
*00:00*
So uh maybe I brought some levity to you when you, you know, were reading about Xbox.
*00:00*
Uh if you were to rate it, you know, from a fan perspective, 10 out of 10.
*00:00*
Call of Duty didn't become exclusive.
*00:00*
So that one I totally understand.
*00:00*
Also the whole thing with, you know, Phil Spencer coming out and we'll get to this later when we talk about the showcase, but he came out and talked about how there's gonna be parody across Call of Duty releases.
*00:00*
know, the economy in this country and in you know, employees and all that stuff.
*00:00*
mess of tears now.
*00:00*
We're really proud of our, for lack of better words, suite of studios.
*00:00*
uh change the the the the receipts at the end of the day.
*00:00*
me and you know I know more most people approached it from Hi Fi Rush how can you close the studio they just released that totally get that I loved Hi-Fi Rush it's one of my favorite games of last year
*00:00*
You know, trying to make a game as a service.
*00:00*
And we're seeing like the end rows of that, uh, especially with Sony, uh, with Concord and stuff, that a lot of them are not gonna hit.
*00:00*
like smaller game of the year type contender games that are unique and frankly help stand out in the space and clearly
*00:00*
Um and more people can just play and have fun on those games.
*00:00*
Which is Elsewhere.
*00:00*
And having one studio all the way in Japan, it could be a weird logistics thing of when they're having to cut studios, they're like, well, you know
*00:00*
It's the one that's farthest out of the way in terms of travel and getting resources to them and from that.
*00:00*
And we see what they're working on, I am not gonna believe they're anything other than a Call of Duty support studio, which sucks, but you know.
*00:00*
And we're gonna make new IP, and we're here, and it's this great new studio for us to have into the collection, you know, into the suite.
*00:00*
like those you know huge prolific studios right there so that they could pull in that talent which is great that's a great decision to build a studio um and then they've been spending the last
*00:00*
A lot of the my new show, Judas, is obviously gonna be some new stuff, but let's not let's call it what it is.
*00:00*
Right, to build out Judas and experiment with this this Lego block decision type system that is designed, but
*00:00*
I I was thinking like it could be kind of a fallouty scenario.
*00:00*
Apparently Fallout 76's numbers went up after it and even the resale value on Fallout 4 and like Fallout New Vegas and stuff went up.
*00:00*
like inside and across the spider-verse that I've ever seen.
*00:00*
Uh I was I was talking with this about I was talking about this with Logan and
*00:00*
Xbox showcases have been at the very least good.
*00:00*
TV stuff.
*00:00*
This Xbox showcase look even better by comparison.
*00:00*
uh launch day one in game pass, which is always huge and it's a priority for them, which I love to see because as a person who primarily plays on Xbox and subscribes to Game Pass, it's just
*00:00*
And you shouldn't be because it should be well rounded for and catered to different uh interests.
*00:00*
Here's a Final Fantasy game, or here's another Soulsborn clone type thing.
*00:00*
From a second third party perspective that I appreciated.
*00:00*
Um even with the stuff that I, you know, didn't really care for.
*00:00*
Um, because I'm sure that is a hefty financial decision to some degree, especially the first one.
*00:00*
Which I actually really enjoy that idea for them to pick one game, their kind of their big fall game so far based off the last two now, and really sink their teeth into it.
*00:00*
games with massive audiences.
*00:00*
a sense of power that they own Call of Duty now and that's why it was the game for this fall.
*00:00*
case.
*00:00*
and can ride a dragon, you know, just very silly mashup of Doom and medieval goofiness that fits.
*00:00*
If Duke Nukem was respectable, you know what I mean?
*00:00*
It just makes sense for them and for all the reasons you said.
*00:00*
just be ported to PS5.
*00:00*
interviews and stuff.
*00:00*
And recently a thing came out.
*00:00*
Um wow, okay.
*00:00*
Uh indie double A to AAA in terms of budget scope, all that stuff.
*00:00*
It was no HUD, no nothing, but there were segments and there was an interview that came out after the showcase that said it was in-engine rendered gameplay.
*00:00*
Fill me in on this.
*00:00*
Inquisition was more traditional realistic Western RPG looking and art style.
*00:00*
kind of off human proportions, um, a little bit more cartoony.
*00:00*
Dreadwolf in two.
*00:00*
So they were like, okay, our party is called the Veil Guard.
*00:00*
Dreadwolf, cooler name.
*00:00*
the potential of you know their next Mass Effect game, which they've been Mass Effect 5, yeah.
*00:00*
Uh I liked it.
*00:00*
Having a new IP from Bethesda Game Studios is really important uh for I think the game industry, Microsoft, like all of it, Bethesda.
*00:00*
And then out of the blue they drop this Valhalla DLC.
*00:00*
And Shattered Space looks dope.
*00:00*
plopped in the middle of the main narrative.
*00:00*
mess.
*00:00*
It's all reaffirming the brand.
*00:00*
Kind of reminded me of the Order 1886.
*00:00*
This interesting game.
*00:00*
sixteen fame who did the narration for the trailer.
*00:00*
For this and the Expedition 33 website calls the game Expedition 33 Colon Claire Obscure, but then Steam and Xbox call it Claire Obscure Colon Expedition 33.
*00:00*
some quick time events.
*00:00*
At worst, I hope this is like a swimming in sevens, which I'm totally fine with.
*00:00*
The combat was the bigger villa of this.
*00:00*
Very intriguing.
*00:00*
I'd give this a shot.
*00:00*
or contrast um very much.
*00:00*
Yeah, yeah, alligator.
*00:00*
spectral scarf or something she has that helps her guy uh glide through the the air.
*00:00*
Um, because I kind of for different reasons I was stuck on them being I I think this was just a surprise in that, like you said, we weren't expecting to see it, let alone getting the 2025 window, which was crazy.
*00:00*
announcing a game and then it never coming out.
*00:00*
Happy to look into.
*00:00*
Yeah, which is coming to Xbox soonish.
*00:00*
They don't have like the the track record that I would think of to be entrusted with such a peripheral game.
*00:00*
It's one of those wonky things where there's like prequels coming out later.
*00:00*
So in my mind, I'm like, okay, well, maybe because it is the first game on the timeline and it is being remade and it's gonna have modern sensibilities, hopefully obviously it keeps all of the core voice made that original really special.
*00:00*
where you you will fully enjoy it.
*00:00*
the more infamous Metal Gear remake of Twin Snakes on the GameCube.
*00:00*
like that.
*00:00*
Like I'm now I'm AMP.
*00:00*
really wanted to and I would love to see more of that.
*00:00*
thing um of playing in third person.
*00:00*
But what's what's the deal here?
*00:00*
I felt so old in that moment.
*00:00*
I just like I can't believe there isn't a date to go along with it showing up.
*00:00*
Make these narrative games that bring in general audiences unlike any other game.
*00:00*
uh closely because like you said the initiative was poised to be Xbox's naughty dog slash Sony Sinemonica's you know they can s deny that or whatever but that's what they're pitched as the quadruple A studio right
*00:00*
I hope this game comes out sooner than later.
*00:00*
Maybe the game just doesn't come out and like we talked about at the top of the show, maybe there's just like a tax write-off in some capacity.
*00:00*
Not a great question to ask.
*00:00*
Gosh, he uh what was it?
*00:00*
Um he's old, yes.
*00:00*
Which is even more impressive that their stuff looks the way it does.
*00:00*
tier so it was well done and animated uh and definitely metal definitely metal metal as hell yeah yeah it is uh
*00:00*
It feels very British, which I'm told is what Fable is as an identity, and I'm really eager to see what playgrounds
*00:00*
And I think that's partially maybe why they're holding back is because I wouldn't be surprised if we saw gameplay at the Game Awards to hype up for next year at being Xbox's big new release next year.
*00:00*
I am so excited for this game.
*00:00*
It wasn't always to its fullest extent, because like I said, Peter Molyneux, famous video game developing liar, he would always promise the world and give you way less than that.
*00:00*
I do think, you know, we were talking about Perfect Dark earlier of it being the last of us God of War for Xbox.
*00:00*
to to see the different developers talking about it and how do they follow this legacy of the IP fable but bring their own flair and design to it.
*00:00*
Fragpunk was this like team-based shooter with cards.
*00:00*
um yes, behind the artful escape.
*00:00*
I would like to play that.
*00:00*
Yeah, and it's a a a strategical advantage, which is cool because like do you play it on a round where you're trying to go up 3-0?
*00:00*
I don't understand what makes it special.
*00:00*
But my favorite childhood novel series is Redwall.
*00:00*
And like we talked about before with Expedition 33, and this is also launching into Game Pass, with Expedition 33 being a new IP that you should give a chance because
*00:00*
Turns out apparently Netflix is adapting Red Wall, so they're tie that back to an earlier conversation.
*00:00*
And other more Hollywood stuff.
*00:00*
High budget CG.
*00:00*
uh is announced, which seems to be tying back to that first Life is Strange game, which I just I found that pretty ironic.
*00:00*
Uh true colors, really enjoyed.
*00:00*
It's just like it's one of those things like when you know and you hear it, you're like, it's like just off enough.
*00:00*
And so where are you at, Jared, with this one?
*00:00*
I am not a huge Harrison Ford guy.
*00:00*
Um, I'm excited to play this game.
*00:00*
Or so.
*00:00*
out guy, but he wasn't the one directly working on it, you know, in that sense.
*00:00*
What if we use some of our assets at our most prolific studio to make a VR game for our VR headset?
*00:00*
No one are like them.
*00:00*
Like Insomniac has the Cadence, man, and it's incredible.
*00:00*
Assassin's Creed 1 came out in 2007, Assassin's Creed 2 2009, Brotherhood in 2010
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
But it said, and I didn't get this from the trailer, but it makes me excited for like boss fights and more reveals infused with visual elements from Cthulhu Mythos.
*00:00*
uh Western American that uses uh Cthulhu in a lot of their stuff.
*00:00*
I've re-r I have re-remembered it.
*00:00*
I want to see what Digital Foundry says about it from a visual perspective and how it runs and and handles on all sorts of things.
*00:00*
Oh my gosh, guys, come on.
*00:00*
drive in a Series X as well in this beautiful kind of space galaxy style Xbox Series X.
*00:00*
like.
*00:00*
Game Pass catalog update, like people were assuming they were gonna add some Call of Duty titles or Crash or Spiral or something.
*00:00*
Pass.
*00:00*
um Bethesda games and things like that.
*00:00*
uh at the time i don't think i have f four or five but uh gears of war e day
*00:00*
Won't let that game die even though it's it's gone.
*00:00*
So the cool thing is the details that came out afterward.
*00:00*
Players were fearful of them.
*00:00*
Seems like it's gonna have a different vibe to it in terms of tone and then maybe go into the other ones.
*00:00*
Uh not that it's a bad experience.
*00:00*
I have a hard time imagining a current Gears game not supporting 60 FPS or higher frame rates in any way.
*00:00*
I actually, when I was at Logan's over in December, I booted up um Modern Warfare 3, because he had it.
*00:00*
And I just I could not believe how dull the opening of that campaign was.
*00:00*
But if they were given the opportunity and they accepted it, I would want Obsidian working on a Fallout game a thousand times over than the Outer Worlds 2.
*00:00*
With so many other game like new games that I want to play, why am I sitting here playing Fallout 4?
*00:00*
you know, announce part three.
*00:00*
I love Crash 4.
*00:00*
I do think we're in such a state in the industry that anytime you can see these lesser known studios either announce their indie project or announce publishing deals with people that are far and few between, like I said, I'm excited that we can possibly have a few
*00:00*
like a Pikmin 4, like they were going one way, they've rebooted and they're heading another.
*00:00*
And I wonder if maybe there's just some hesitancy of like, let's wait until like more ducks are in a row.
*00:00*
Just tapping into my knowledge well.
*00:00*
that uh hack and leak and all that stuff.
*00:00*
Um in addition to all the other games, the third-party games that are coming to Game Pass like Mixtape and Immortals 30 or not Immortals.
*00:00*
their fault.
*00:00*
No, I still tweet from time to time.
*00:00*
Where we pick a series and bounce back and forth between its entries, exploring their evolution, design, and legacy.
*00:00*
a solid future and especially in light of all the live service stuff they were pursuing and now they're backtracking on like that's a it's kinda scary.
*00:00*
Like supporter of the industry perspective, and then there's the fan perspective, right?
*00:00*
Um, I thought it was awesome, right?
*00:00*
games everywhere.
*00:00*
because as we've seen with Xbox, they are still committed to Xbox, but they also are committed to the brand and making sure that they have
*00:00*
So, yeah, it is what it is.
*00:00*
Apple Arcade does the same thing.
*00:00*
A model of essentially just renting games with a certain range of access and things come and go as as contracts and the market dictates and
*00:00*
kind of scary and as a business perspective it m makes total sense.
*00:00*
future but like you also said um when you buy a bunch of teams that have similar jobs as the teams you already have um
*00:00*
That kind of just went on in that game's development because it happened during the acquisition, and it seems like all eyes of Microsoft were on Starfield.
*00:00*
there um because that's years that was years and years of work poured into it and they were just like yeah yeah we're gonna shut this down um
*00:00*
It's clearly there's tax write-offs and and benefits somehow through all of this and and Warner Brothers is a good example of that.
*00:00*
um like EverQuest and stuff, but there were so many that tried to hit that MMO target because they saw that money and it just didn't work.
*00:00*
The thing that doesn't make sense to me is and this is where I think people mi misconstrue who's in charge of closing these studios.
*00:00*
keep investing their money and their time into those things back into your studios and into your bottom line from a business perspective.
*00:00*
aka Microsoft.
*00:00*
Perfect dark, which we will be talking about later.
*00:00*
Yeah, and that was looking like that.
*00:00*
Ken Levine worked on Judas, but Cloud Chamber, which is like the studio out of Ken Levine's Ashes for 2K, worked on that new Bioshock.
*00:00*
in the studio in the tech and whatever they built, but when you're just looking at numbers, you look at however it's cost, how much it cost to have Ken Levine work on this game for the last
*00:00*
I'm here for it.
*00:00*
to have it and Judas kind of like be in the same rough space, uh really waiting for the announcement of Bioshock officially.
*00:00*
Castlevania is killer.
*00:00*
The future is pretty bright, I think, based off of the showcase.
*00:00*
Okay, so what I'll first say is I personally believe that like the last three or four years of
*00:00*
State of play to me is like, oh, this isn't this isn't gonna have all the good stuff, right?
*00:00*
the the the value increases and it makes that subscription which may even increase as we might talk about in a bit not that hard on my wallet you know what I mean so
*00:00*
I feel like I haven't seen this at a major summer platform holders kind of like presentation in a while.
*00:00*
You know, for me, I think the pacing is more important because if people want to get the deeper dive gameplay and you provide that, people will go watch that.
*00:00*
Ubisoft still does that and their showcases are horrendous.
*00:00*
old old E three and um you know Pippin's miles better than last year's is which is crazy.
*00:00*
They spent so much money and like and it is coming to Game Pass, which was a big kind of question mark for a bit of like, well, do they put it on Game Pass or does it
*00:00*
typical stuff.
*00:00*
Do some really wacky video game stuff with their video games.
*00:00*
No energy for that man.
*00:00*
uh to PlayStation.
*00:00*
I the fact that he is still in charge over there uh kind of upsets me based off everything that I've read and have understood.
*00:00*
Basically, a thing came out as we've seen too many times in the recent years.
*00:00*
Possibility space in New Orleans, Louisiana.
*00:00*
Train, yeah.
*00:00*
So everyone's been really excited about the jump.
*00:00*
And I have friends who love SATA decay too, and a lot of them will tell you there's just a couple of things.
*00:00*
Max for people in the No on Stated Decay Three, that was more than any of us expected to see.
*00:00*
I don't mean this in a negative way, but it is a negative association.
*00:00*
I was thrown off by the art style so much that I I actually thought that this was maybe a different Dragon Age game, because I thought it had a different name, but it was renamed or something.
*00:00*
Sometimes you know, I'm oftentimes these days, that's kind of why I don't have a Facebook account anymore.
*00:00*
Primary combat was with my main character, but I would switch to them for strategic purposes of like use this, you know, freeze spell to freeze this enemy, all of that stuff.
*00:00*
placed on what they feel is the core of what makes Dragon Age special, which is your party.
*00:00*
Dreadwolf is a much cooler than they very much, yes.
*00:00*
I did play Anthem.
*00:00*
It was really us just trashing the game while we played it.
*00:00*
how it compares to Iron Man itself, Iron Man VR, which I played the demo for on PSVR, and now it's on Quest, which I imagine would feel much better without the cables.
*00:00*
Some new stuff and then a Fallout 76 expansion, which felt like inevitable.
*00:00*
I decide I want to replay Ragnarok and that that's like a big commitment, right?
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
It's just also not coming to Game Pass.
*00:00*
Uh that's interesting.
*00:00*
uh big third party relationship kind of big Dragon Age I often associate with Xbox as well.
*00:00*
puts a number up in the sky and everyone who is that age just dies is the vibe I got.
*00:00*
I don't know if you ever played Child of Light, the UBR indie game.
*00:00*
I haven't played many games with that style of combat and I really enjoyed it.
*00:00*
Um and the environmental s looks that we got of the person running through the uh through these worlds looks gorgeous.
*00:00*
It's it was a neat surprise and it wasn't as much as I love my souls likes it was nice to see something that wasn't a souls like be revealed because it seems like we got a lot of those.
*00:00*
But moving on, we get our first gameplay demo of the show, More Old E3 Energy, with a game I frankly did not think we would see.
*00:00*
You know, it doesn't look anything special, but that's fine though.
*00:00*
average combat, that's not what's gonna be the strength of this game in my opinion.
*00:00*
Probably my favorite thing from the showcase, and that is simply because it's uh Metal Gear Solid 3, and I love Metal Gear Solid 3 so much.
*00:00*
the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles uh collection that came out and I think was done by Digital Clips.
*00:00*
And then Konami themselves, not the best stewards, it seems, of their IP when it comes to remakes and remasters and collections.
*00:00*
reveal trailer kind of quelled a lot of that for me from a visual perspective, a gameplay perspective.
*00:00*
Coming out semi-soonish in the sense of pre-orders are up for collectors' editions and things.
*00:00*
I thought there was like a chance.
*00:00*
Which with these live service games is apparently always the worst time to play them.
*00:00*
So yeah, it's a bit of a bummer, but it is nice to see them continue to support it uh as it goes to other platforms like you said.
*00:00*
are mythological gods.
*00:00*
Um it's just a really fun uh 4x strategy game.
*00:00*
thing and one of them was these four X games right developer direct.
*00:00*
setbacks.
*00:00*
Perfect Dark was revealed.
*00:00*
The immersive sim aspect of it, welcome surprise.
*00:00*
Mirror's edge esque wall running and stuff like that was neat, the little bit that they showed.
*00:00*
Xbox first party stuff.
*00:00*
This was all positive affirming stuff for me to see, and so I'm quite uh quite hopeful.
*00:00*
to be shut down just because of all the reports of tumultuous development, having to bring in outside help.
*00:00*
And he is.
*00:00*
So it is an interesting career that that man has had.
*00:00*
them.
*00:00*
Gratuitous violence they showed, the brutality in it.
*00:00*
But expansion perfect time to hop in from the jump and give me an excuse to hop in.
*00:00*
dominates when it comes to uh cinematics and that for as gruesome as that trailer was it was also beautiful.
*00:00*
But I just I I'm wondering why we're not getting the bigger gameplay story here yet.
*00:00*
fake promises, which that guy is famous for.
*00:00*
So that's my that's where I put my bet on.
*00:00*
That is if I don't know if you've ever seen gameplay of the original Fable Max.
*00:00*
Um but what they did deliver on was engaging and fun.
*00:00*
E exactly.
*00:00*
And that immediately gave me the sense of I want to check this out to see how it feels because I haven't played a game like this, right?
*00:00*
So when I saw this, I'm like, okay, it's a crafting survival.
*00:00*
These especially in today's industry, these are far and fewer between, and we need to support the things we want to see in the industry.
*00:00*
Unfortunately.
*00:00*
Which not to say Deck9 can't make good games, but it isn't the original developers of Life is Strange, which is always a concern.
*00:00*
Um but yeah I'm I'm excited for it just has it hesitant because of the developer, uh unfortunately.
*00:00*
I think I would just have to like get into Life is Strange.
*00:00*
And it's that's gotta be such a difficult job, like the pressure I imagine he feels to be portraying Harrison Ford in this way.
*00:00*
It made me really excited.
*00:00*
Archaeology, all that stuff is something I was is my stuff.
*00:00*
I I fully could be misconstruing it.
*00:00*
So And who's to know if that game co-op is way more enjoyable than it was single player?
*00:00*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:00*
makes Ratchet and Clink and has made a bunch of other wonderful IP and I don't know if Sony is even aware of this, but they've made some VR games and it's weird Sony has a VR headset and it's like
*00:00*
frustrating piece of equipment uh and company running behind it.
*00:00*
studio in that not like per like per dollar because obviously you can argue Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica.
*00:00*
That list would be a lot longer.
*00:00*
You know, they cranked all of that out on the PS3.
*00:00*
And now on the PS5, it's Uncharted for Lost Legacy and The Last of Us Part 2 with the Last of Us Part 1 remake as well.
*00:00*
Back to the showcase.
*00:00*
Chinese Communist Party over there and the things that they're doing and TikTok and all sorts of crazy terrible things that China is doing.
*00:00*
character as the protagonist, so I am having a little bit of trouble with that.
*00:00*
Power.
*00:00*
So I love Obsidian.
*00:00*
It does feel a little clashy with just the genre.
*00:00*
'Cause it's my kind of game.
*00:00*
They're very valuable at Xbox.
*00:00*
And I swear, I swear, Jared, I thought she was getting ready to do the thing, but she didn't do the thing.
*00:00*
This is good from a like market competitive perspective.
*00:00*
almost assuredly this year as well.
*00:00*
I don't know if that's the best idea, saying that out loud.
*00:00*
uh I would think just putting the whole collection on Game Pass would be good.
*00:00*
Own I think I got all of them when I bought my Xbox One.
*00:00*
But please continue.
*00:00*
They wanted to feel like Marcus and the Cogs are like threatened again because they felt as if the main uh dudes
*00:00*
With 30 FPS and 5.
*00:00*
The longer that game doesn't get a date, the more funny I think it is.
*00:00*
I would much rather have them working on Fallout, in my opinion, because we know that they're familiar with the IP.
*00:00*
Um yeah, to me it's just I'm not excited about Outer Worlds 2 when the possibility of them working on Fallout is so dope.
*00:00*
In the very tumultuous state that the games industry is in, and we've heard how hard it is for these indie studios to get publishing deals now, uh all the money's dried up.
*00:00*
I'm excited that these projects, you know, God forbid they get canceled or anything bad happens.
*00:00*
through.
*00:00*
for these studios when at the top of the show we talked about there are studios that don't no longer have futures, you know?
*00:00*
show a project that wasn't Sea of Thieves.
*00:00*
good vibes announcement for the Xbox brand.
*00:00*
Um even if one of those games slips and having just two of those I I hope and I think all three of those games will release.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
PlayStation, just give me that showcase that shows me like what's ahead.
*00:00*
And it seems like uh, you know, I've used this phrase multiple times in this podcast, but it's like a monkey's paw situation where we finally get this for Xbox where we're seeing it come to fruition.
*00:00*
as someone like in my life who knows a lot about it.
*00:00*
It's truly a lot.
*00:00*
Call of Duty to Blizzard and World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Candy Crush.
*00:00*
And um I just like that uh as a player of video games, I'm gonna have the opportunity to access all of that.
*00:00*
um altruistic in the desires to get this thing blocked.
*00:00*
fit so well with the Microsoft angle of it's not just Xbox but also PC games like World of Warcraft or um
*00:00*
I don't that that hurt that one hurt.
*00:00*
And they should be proud of all of them.
*00:00*
They exist in probably one of the cheapest areas to run a video game developer.
*00:00*
Made Evil Dead, right?
*00:00*
It's not crazy decision, but it it if you had said this five, seven years ago, it would be a little crazy.
*00:00*
those two in particular grounded in Sea of Thieves, more of those recurring revenue games and opening up that player base to a w even wider audience.
*00:00*
I don't even know what the w the right word is, but it doesn't feel right to shut these teams down and then go, and now we have a new team.
*00:00*
It's which worries me that this new Bioshock from 2K might be some weird multiplayer thing.
*00:00*
Logistically, right?
*00:00*
But part of me is like they haven't had Cloud Chamber show that game, so maybe it is the same, it is a single-player Bioshock narrative, which would be dope.
*00:00*
Now, to be frank, I went into the state of play with proper expectations because they set them that way.
*00:00*
Yeah, I so I went into the showcase um here's how I'll put it.
*00:00*
If I were to say disappointed, which feels even strong.
*00:00*
a developer on stage doing a demo live for five to ten minutes.
*00:00*
Kind of savored that and enjoyed it.
*00:00*
Um and then obviously they had the Call of Duty Direct after the showcase and they had the one for Starfield last year.
*00:00*
I did just want to call out that the showcase does kick off right away with a Call of Duty teaser, which of course it did, because
*00:00*
you know, check out our multiplayer reveal or whatever at the Call of Duty event in August.
*00:00*
That ever ever complains about games coming to other platforms, go to therapy.
*00:00*
Like I'll give you a perfect example.
*00:00*
Bringing it back to Dragon Age the Vale Guard, it was just a character introductory trailer.
*00:00*
entirely you can go into your menu and control the attacks they do kind of like turn-based combat but not really if you know you know what I'm saying uh whereas in Inquisition you could literally change to the character and go through active combat with them
*00:00*
But in terms of like the Xbox showcase, I wouldn't say it's my game of the showcase because we look really just got that character introduction.
*00:00*
Where there's a new Dragon Age game before the other new Dragon Age game, but it I was quickly informed that it was just a rename this as the game, and
*00:00*
Is not good.
*00:00*
So it gives me an excuse of like just start from the beginning, play through it, and you have the expansion on top of that.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
It'll be compiled and it'll have all the DLC or whatever in it.
*00:00*
Yeah, that's probably something that is something to look into, I suppose.
*00:00*
turn-based RPG style combat to fight a bunch of different bosses.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's it striked me as a game that I would give a shot to.
*00:00*
that but cool and really the art style really speaks to me um in general.
*00:00*
Uh yeah, I'm we're I'm also curious about the structure of this game.
*00:00*
But the on the opposite end of that spectrum, you get things like perfect dark, which we will talk about where it is announced years ago, nothing, and then it's
*00:00*
just like seeing that.
*00:00*
Um Silent Hill 2 not looking so hot, for example, uh, in my in my opinion.
*00:00*
Um and I was in this weird place where the collection came out, and I was like, okay, do I start chronologically in terms of release?
*00:00*
And from the little bit of research I did, and you can totally correct me if I'm wrong, this takes place in the timeline first, right?
*00:00*
Chronologically game one.
*00:00*
I want to maybe start here.
*00:00*
I think in the gameplay wise, they have two types of play, from a more traditional third-person perspective, or you can play it with the traditional controls of top-down um stylings from the
*00:00*
To be fair, they they took m Resident Evil Village and turned it from a first person game into a third person game into a VR game.
*00:00*
1117 is the original release date of Metal Gear Solid 3.
*00:00*
You know, the logo wasn't on screen at all.
*00:00*
Obviously, they will not mention the other platforms and they absolutely can do that.
*00:00*
World's Edge, yeah.
*00:00*
Um perfect.
*00:00*
4X kind of category.
*00:00*
Yeah, there's there are just certain characters that should be voiced by their originals until until Death Do Us Part, essentially.
*00:00*
thing.
*00:00*
They get thirty hours from me bare bar minimum or bare minimum whenever a new horizon game comes out.
*00:00*
I do think, Max, that this is I'll I'll put money on this.
*00:00*
And I'm like, I don't understand how you know this is like from the same studio.
*00:00*
So uh I like that idea.
*00:00*
Yeah, so I've played uh The Original Life is Strange, Incredible.
*00:00*
multiple timelines and like solving a murder mystery and trying to prevent it.
*00:00*
I'm sure there will be a kid who has never seen Indiana Jones that plays it.
*00:00*
I think most people under like the age of 24 are going to be closer to me, un unfortunately, for some people who love Indiana Jones.
*00:00*
in the trenches like he prob more so is on games like Starfield or El Shule Six.
*00:00*
one of those, you know, forty, fifty, however much dollar expansions like Lost Legacy.
*00:00*
Enjoy the ship mechanics and I just haven't been back since.
*00:00*
The Veilguard thing.
*00:00*
How did you feel seeing E-Day?
*00:00*
Either way, this looks awesome.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's it's gonna be vital and it's it's good to have that in-house and be able to share that amongst all your teams, so it's cool.
*00:00*
have kind of played Call of Duty development for a little bit, so it's it's no fault of the team, but I I was shocked.
*00:00*
or so to line up with some stuff.
*00:00*
Steampunk Shock.
*00:00*
The world in which they were offered banjo also really excites me, if that were a possible thing.
*00:00*
Um yeah, I just am excited for Toys for Bob.
*00:00*
This was really well crafted and it's good.
*00:00*
Jared White.
*00:00*
You do know a lot.
*00:00*
Consolidation is never a good thing.
*00:00*
Um but yeah, that I'm those are my overall thoughts.
*00:00*
multi-platform and recurring revenue games that will help bolster that and both help bring back the 70 billion dollar part of things, but also help bolster game pass and
*00:00*
Get more people to adopt this subscribe mentality, but still give people the option to buy games for their console, for their PC.
*00:00*
sustainable.
*00:00*
Um you know, that don't aren't aren't necessarily cutting stuff to gain profit or, you know.
*00:00*
That Sony would rather eat the money invested in it than deteriorate the brand.
*00:00*
Microsoft saw value in Hi-Fi Rush so much that it's going multi-platform, which is another kind of
*00:00*
I'm sure somewhere on a on a spreadsheet in a conference room it makes total sense, right?
*00:00*
obviously was in the works well before all these other decisions happened, but they announced El Swin Entertainment, which is being set up in Poland.
*00:00*
Yeah, Phil i it is weird.
*00:00*
That printed money, which then theoretically helps sustain ghost story.
*00:00*
An adaptation.
*00:00*
Whatever you want to call it.
*00:00*
Exactly.
*00:00*
of second, third party games, reveals, or what have you.
*00:00*
Uh I just would have liked to see more of what am I going to be doing in them instead of just watching cutscenes and or trailers of things flying by.
*00:00*
That was kind of what was missing.
*00:00*
It it's I enjoy that for a different reason.
*00:00*
They had to do it this year because it's Call of Duty's theirs now.
*00:00*
The the the gun that shoots skulls and people actually like zoomed in and did a gif where it sh it like actively animates the skull getting crushed as the bullets fire out.
*00:00*
Doom is able to walk this line of being incredibly hyper-violent, action-packed, first-person greatness that people want.
*00:00*
everything he wrote and all those receipts, so we'll see how they get sorted out.
*00:00*
This was one of the ones I was a little surprised we didn't see any gameplay of, but I guess State of the K is state.
*00:00*
So a lot of people didn't expect to see this game at all, Max, because it was in development hell.
*00:00*
Traditional Western RPG a la witcher type styling.
*00:00*
Um people watch that trailer and they're like, what's with the MCU efication of Dragon Age?
*00:00*
way different than the last Dragon Age, which at this point was ten years ago.
*00:00*
It just as someone who isn't following Dragon Age and really have I've played Mass Effect 1 like halfway, like that's my Bioware experience.
*00:00*
I can't even if it's even though it was free and it's high quality and it's everyone says it's great, I'm like I can't be thrown into endgame high-level combat again.
*00:00*
uh cyberpunk where I was like, oh do I hop into Cyberpunk?
*00:00*
you know, 15, 20, 30 bucks for a DLC.
*00:00*
on the disc.
*00:00*
You know, like the Yeah, but what I'm thinking is like eventually when the Game of the Year edition gets made physically and digitally, do they swap out that version for the Game Pass version?
*00:00*
Like a Tim Burton movie to some extent in the best of ways.
*00:00*
authentic and you can clearly see that in this demo of this game.
*00:00*
essentially re-announced here and we still don't have a date like that dragging of a cycle and the same happens over at Sony like they are notorious for
*00:00*
Trailer.
*00:00*
wasn't everything it should have been.
*00:00*
With these, I'm kind of worried with that.
*00:00*
Resident Evil 2 remake or the Resident Evil 3 remake adopted that where you could like toggle it on and have the original perspectives.
*00:00*
Um did you did you you had something I thought about Sea of Thieves or was it just Oh no we were just gonna talk about it's nice to see as always games that have are getting continued support as
*00:00*
Um I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but they've done an excellent job of committing to it for a while now.
*00:00*
because they have that attachment there as well, which is cool.
*00:00*
Yes, at that launch coming to console is big.
*00:00*
It's kinda cool to see.
*00:00*
That obviously has halted because they just spent an absorbent amount of money.
*00:00*
This showcase.
*00:00*
The scope of what they're trying to pull off is incredible to me from visual visual fidelity to even like density of the city.
*00:00*
But mixtape looked pretty dope, which is from the uh guys behind that dreamy guitar game.
*00:00*
And I fell in love with those and I just anthropomorphic animal fan like high fantasy is like my thing.
*00:00*
This is launching into Game Pass where this is one of those things we talked about before.
*00:00*
Alright, we'll see if that comes to pass.
*00:00*
keeps happening, it feels like to me.
*00:00*
I would love to hear your thoughts on playing the game because I mean how many people Yeah the voicing didn't bother me.
*00:00*
Todd was like, I get to announce this game, like uh I'm going to do it.
*00:00*
We have a Marvel game.
*00:00*
They're kind of the Marvel team now, and that is cool and fine and great, and they make wonderful games.
*00:00*
To take as an example of such a prolific studio with high output and high quality, to the the scopes get bigger and the develop cycles get longer and
*00:00*
And sure some of them are remasters, like Spider-Man for PS4 remastered, which launched with the PS5 alongside Miles Morales, which was
*00:00*
Wolverine is next officially, um, but there sounds like there will be a I mean there will be a Spider-Man expansion style game as well, apparently, along with some other stuff.
*00:00*
If they could get Santa Monica and Naughty Dog to output like that, my gosh.
*00:00*
Shadows is kind of maybe I don't know.
*00:00*
Which is very interesting.
*00:00*
At this showcase.
*00:00*
From software has claimed this vibe of art style, right?
*00:00*
What do they call 'em now?
*00:00*
This is something I thought I'd never say.
*00:00*
It clashes with the tone that they're trying to strike with the game.
*00:00*
the fantasy RPGs that have come before it, which would yeah that it's uh drawing obvious comparisons from, right?
*00:00*
Uh like kind of like Indiana Jones, I thought we were gonna get a date for this one too, but it they're holding on to these dates so close to their chest.
*00:00*
kind of to fill that space um type of game and I think it's a strong fit for Xbox itself and it's good to see Obsidian coming back to uh this type of RPG especially
*00:00*
Exactly.
*00:00*
Which makes total sense in the climate of Nintendo Switch successor is out within a year.
*00:00*
Most likely it will be announced within a year for sure and probably is out within a year, would be my guess.
*00:00*
Thank you for calling me out.
*00:00*
and and judgment and tactics um and pop if you can even still play pop in any way.
*00:00*
This was just a m a mood piece of a trailer essentially of like establishing the tone.
*00:00*
So yeah, the coalition is very important to the future of Xbox because of their familiarity with Unreal and their what's probably going to be close to perfection of Unreal 5 in the years to come.
*00:00*
I think we're gonna start seeing more Fallout projects gear up here and be announced.
*00:00*
I think we will see more marketing tie-ins going forward with all sorts of games.
*00:00*
like reaching a better state and like kind of finding whatever it was I I've I've heard I've read that it was kind of soft rebooted in the middle of it, not dissimilar to, you know
*00:00*
first party or you know, well-known established IP game to things like Perfect Dark from a brand new studio.
*00:00*
really spoke to me, but then also I can see where it had the games
*00:00*
the the Titans, you know, Starfield and Avowed, which reached that RPG or ESO was even there.
*00:00*
But um thanks E3 Popco or whatever it is that owns them.
*00:00*
almost as this strange justification for Game Pass in a way.
*00:00*
having that crossby move which Sony was doing with the PS3 and the Vita and which is great.
*00:00*
It's just stuff we'll never understand or maybe not understand, but it's just stuff that we'll never know about necessarily.
*00:00*
And I wonder if there was a lack of true leadership available at that studio or if
*00:00*
This is their only Japanese studio.
*00:00*
Which just the timing on this next bit of news was just so poor because it was like right after they shut down these studios.
*00:00*
Um New studios are hard to make, man.
*00:00*
2K has to I mean clearly they see value in it because they've let Ken Levine do it.
*00:00*
I am looking at what to watch dot com.
*00:00*
this year and it helps kind of pad some things out.
*00:00*
Doom has a legacy of running on everything, and the last two games were on PlayStation.
*00:00*
We moved on into the state of decay state of decay three trailer.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
Uh speaking of another game stuck in development hell, Dragon Age the Vale Guard was the next game.
*00:00*
So you correct me if I'm wrong, but I was not expecting this art style at all.
*00:00*
You want to support uh creators who do mod stuff.
*00:00*
Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.
*00:00*
Even better reason to just call it Expedition 33.
*00:00*
This is that's the kind of like that's the pace a game reveal I think should have at the most.
*00:00*
The first like proper trailer for Metal Gear Sol Delta Snake Eater, which is the ground up remake in Unreal Engine 5 for Metal Gear Sol 3.
*00:00*
Even though that's not the goal here necessarily and um has no impact on the game really whatsoever.
*00:00*
because of shipping and people just going to the stores and things.
*00:00*
So like if they were going the f I mean they are going the full remake route, but it's that fine line of like, man, what if they did re-record the dialogue?
*00:00*
When that was announced, it sounded like Xbox was making a studio to make games for people like me who prefer these narrative-driven single-player type games.
*00:00*
Closest thing we're gonna get to a Splinter Cell game for the foreseeable future.
*00:00*
Fitting, fitting.
*00:00*
But because it gives me that subtle interest of the red wall vibes, I like the art style.
*00:00*
So it was yeah, I was tied for my game of the showcase.
*00:00*
Um with the development of that game.
*00:00*
Also, that one has a lot of development issues in terms of studio culture, which is a bummer.
*00:00*
And I don't see it.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's those are the people that have it played Blood War.
*00:00*
This one, though it does have humor, it is going more towards the fantasy genre.
*00:00*
Yes, they are they are the closest thing to Insomniac in terms of cadence.
*00:00*
Makes total sense there.
*00:00*
Duh.
*00:00*
I think he said it was gonna it's the first Call of Duty game coming to Game Pass.
*00:00*
You start hearing a little music, a little mad world, you start seeing the little gears, you're like, oh, what is this?
*00:00*
they have a paragraph about how this trailer was made, which is I think a little funny.
*00:00*
uh experts and a lot of studios are going to be using Unreal 5 moving forward.
*00:00*
Um, I'm curious if that will come to Warzone because it would be very weird.
*00:00*
I thought that was gonna show up.
*00:00*
I want Fallout.
*00:00*
My goodness, like sign me up for whatever f Kojima anything, right?
*00:00*
The the hilariously ironic Toys for Bob situation.
*00:00*
We will uh we'll see if Everwild ever comes to be and and all the other stuff.
*00:00*
To meet other people's desires and genres.
*00:00*
We're kicking butt too.
*00:00*
Um wh what did you think about that over the last three years or so?
*00:00*
It was a good sampling of like what's to come, filled with exciting stuff from their first party.
*00:00*
is a shame to some degree, at least for some of these bigger games.
*00:00*
Because he's still sporting like futuristic military great armor and stuff like that.
*00:00*
light having fun with it gun design that you know it doesn't all have to just be shotgun assault rifle and and Doom hasn't do that.
*00:00*
Because, I don't know how familiar are you with the Undead Labs situation, but the founder of Undead Labs, Jeff something, I don't remember his last name.
*00:00*
That there are hundreds of people at id and whoever else is supporting this game, like their livelihood and the hard work that they are putting in this game shouldn't be in power.
*00:00*
because after the showcase 20 minutes of gameplay was dropped by Biowire, which looks incredible and I'm very excited.
*00:00*
And so it that I'm excited for those people.
*00:00*
Um awful.
*00:00*
Yeah, compulsion games, yeah, developers of We Happy Few and Contrast.
*00:00*
Almost like Ghost of Shushima did, where they were like, We're gonna go full tilt into this old Japanese with the Kurosawa mode and eventually they even brought lip syncing to the Japanese voice, but you could play the game from the beginning in Japanese, like if you
*00:00*
Delta, it's looking really great.
*00:00*
Not tank controls, but top-down controls and mechanics.
*00:00*
We uh there was Funtlock Siege of Dawn, which had probably the most aggressive title cards I've ever seen.
*00:00*
I'm very curious and interested in it.
*00:00*
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is a hilarious name.
*00:00*
I feel like puzzles in Indiana Jones need to be a bit more intertwined like that.
*00:00*
them as a people in a history and a culture.
*00:00*
And then early this year it got the September date, but people were still worried that it might get delayed again because obviously the war is still ongoing.
*00:00*
Things to say for them.
*00:00*
Um and they're also actually helping Obsidian with Avoid with some of that Unreal 5 tech.
*00:00*
I'm like saving it for Logan in a way.
*00:00*
But that was the showcase.
*00:00*
I hope that Obsidian was given the opportunity to tackle a fallout spin-off and you know maybe they didn't want to like if they didn't want to do it fine, continue working on the Outer Worlds too.
*00:00*
And there are a lot of games that I am curious about, most notably, of course, OD from Kojima and Jordan Peel.
*00:00*
the service platforms and subscriptions like it this was a diverse showcase that had big openings big closings a lot of highs
*00:00*
after you were on the show last time in twenty twenty one if I'm if I remember checking the clocks and timed correctly.
*00:00*
And so buying this absurdly large catalog that does
*00:00*
It's just that one is one that doesn't make the mo sense to me at all.
*00:00*
sense from a business perspective for that type of game, right?
*00:00*
six seven years working on building a team, building games possibly, probably multiple ideas, but then finally landing on.
*00:00*
Twelve years?
*00:00*
So I love Doom.
*00:00*
So some people are upset that that they changed that.
*00:00*
So that's all I wanted to say real quick on that.
*00:00*
That that makes sense.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
I don't think we got a date.
*00:00*
a theme and a world that we don't really see ever in video games.
*00:00*
would be great.
*00:00*
But to me you can't say I didn't expect it to be here and then be like I can't believe we didn't get a date.
*00:00*
Build their own studio from the ground up, which is a very difficult task.
*00:00*
Michael Ironside cannot be the voice of Sam Fisher.
*00:00*
Scary scenes of islands, the sort of things that did pop up in it.
*00:00*
So Fable's my most anticipated Xbox game, period.
*00:00*
They nail that stuff.
*00:00*
I'm not knocking Troy Baker at all.
*00:00*
That's pretty crazy to look back on.
*00:00*
See?
*00:00*
I could have sworn so clearly I'm I'm getting the Wukon thing from the name, which is just me being dumb and my brain dyslexia mixing things up.
*00:00*
uh pentiment they'd like they just put out pentiment out of nowhere which was really cool pentiment was incredible i loved that game so much it's on my list it's on my list um
*00:00*
That was the other one.
*00:00*
Call that again?
*00:00*
Um it features a version of Mad World, which obviously like that is a huge callback from the 2006 commercial that they they mentioned and were alluding to.
*00:00*
Needed.
*00:00*
And let's make sure that we are ready to announce instead of announcing ahead of time so far.
*00:00*
tilted people's expectations of like, oh, we're getting Wolverine next, you know what I mean?
*00:00*
Like a royalty.
*00:00*
Well, and there's also the conversation of like, you know, is Naughty Dog at a point now where if they have something released attached to them that isn't so clearly a prestige thing?
*00:00*
So the only thing I can think of uh is man I th his name's escaping me.
*00:00*
But then you get situations where we have Microsoft executives like Matt Matt Booty saying, you know, we want smaller, more Darling games.
*00:00*
possible.
*00:00*
So not even Kotor.
*00:00*
Um but also then I wonder like in a year and a half or whatever, because there's two promised DLC packs for starting
*00:00*
So when there were early rumors about this game, you know, the compulsions working on this um, you know, gothic southern folktale game, I was like, wow, that's like
*00:00*
I do remember joking during this particular gameplay reveal uh that this is essentially like the deep south version of Wind Waker.
*00:00*
But I particularly love seeing this game being advertised on Xbox.
*00:00*
This quelled all of my concerns with this particular remake, which is coming from a studio that doesn't really have the history of it.
*00:00*
Um Sea of Thieves was next season 13.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
which I was here for.
*00:00*
Development struggles, it seems.
*00:00*
And lastly, mixtape.
*00:00*
And uh there's a few things.
*00:00*
Well, how do we keep going?
*00:00*
I don't have the quote in front of me, but I feel like I thought Phil said at the start of the show when he was introducing Call of Duty and said it's coming to game.
*00:00*
Very, very excited to see what that turns out to be.
*00:00*
Check that show out in all of its glory.
*00:00*
for every single person that comes on the show.
*00:00*
God, if Netflix could just have that a uh animation studio do a Bioshock animated thing, Arcane is arguably the most beautiful animated thing outside of like obviously
*00:00*
Yeah, we'll see.
*00:00*
Solus was a party member who's an elf.
*00:00*
The art is cool, the movement interesting.
*00:00*
So I think it looked awesome.
*00:00*
Well then for pre-orders to go live too it kind of like made it a little bit more believable right when it initially happened and then to kind of pull that away from people make everyone sad.
*00:00*
And and there is something wrong in the back end of development for Perfect Dark.
*00:00*
Kind of uh what's the word?
*00:00*
Winterboro.
*00:00*
Next up, we get to the game.
*00:00*
The the scene itself though felt like an Indiana Jones movie and I think that's the best compliment I can give it.
*00:00*
But it felt like an Indiana Jones game and I just really hope the gameplay like is nailed.
*00:00*
There are main narrative puzzles that you can't go around, but it might be one of those things that's tied to additional trophies or achievements where there's other puzzles to do that are optional.
*00:00*
I played that with my dad.
*00:00*
Some studios these days are kind of like, no, we're an action RPG.
*00:00*
Oh, and they also name drop next gen because they've been doing that uh for this year.
*00:00*
The chat the chat I was in kind of popped off from the sense of like how cool is it that the Doom Slayer now has a chainsaw shield.
*00:00*
I I haven't seen a game quite like this before, and I that's almost something like I want to support more so than you know the the run of the known quantities.
*00:00*
It is disappointing that Kojima went with Kiefer Sutherland.
*00:00*
But this trailer in particular got its own of like this next trailer will display I don't remember the language specifically, but
*00:00*
I I am a pro-Todd Howard guy.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I see a world where they are working on a fallout.
*00:00*
Here's the thing, Max.
*00:00*
I really am looking forward to the future slate of Xbox.
*00:00*
Now it's n we had Outer Worlds and Outer Wilds a couple of years ago.
*00:00*
They ruined everything.
*00:00*
So one thing I want to preface with is that we've learned from WB uh that sometimes stuff happens behind the scenes for weird business and tax credit reasons.
*00:01*
synergy there, uh, which is something that Fallout seems to be missing, and we might talk about that a little bit later as well, because I noticed
*00:01*
Okay, those are a little bit scarier.
*00:01*
So, uh you want me to give like a in addition to my general thoughts, you want me to give like a review like out of ten?
*00:01*
that way, uh, but in the sense of just he's still there in a position of power like that kind of irks me.
*00:01*
Uh Legends.
*00:01*
We get uh there was a wow expansion, but we don't play that.
*00:01*
So I think that's cool uh to see that be adapted.
*00:01*
Issue you may face is when you if you decide to continue through the series, is when you get to Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 2, which do have those traditional top-down
*00:01*
It kind of seems to be the cycle they're on of remaking and bringing forward the old ones and then putting out a new one.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
The thing that I was most interested in is I'm always I'm always a sucker for a good souls like Liza P was is I haven't played every game that I wanted to for 2023 yet, but so far from what I've played, Liza P is my game of the year so far
*00:01*
Okay, that makes I could see that.
*00:01*
You're the worst.
*00:01*
I it makes sense in that way.
*00:01*
Give me a crossbow that shoots spines.
*00:01*
I always get those confused as the which ones, freshwater, which ones, saltwater.
*00:01*
Yeah, I was definitely sad, but I did get the Collector's Edition locked in.
*00:01*
I mean when they announced that when the rumors and then they announced that Crystal Dynamics was being brought in to support the team, I was like, man, there's something wrong with
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
This looks incredible.
*00:01*
So that answer so I don't know if that means I would also take that to mean though that Unreal Engine 5 is like
*00:01*
So basically Undead Labs had a bunch of stuff going on, which sucks because everyone has been excited for Stated Gay 3 because it is the jump from
*00:01*
And I think them hopping into the sci-fi genre is dope.
*00:01*
I must have misheard you.
*00:01*
But yeah, that's missing.
*00:01*
And it's been so long since we've had a Bioshock game and it it makes it even all the more interesting that there is another Bioshock game in the works.
*00:01*
Uh and then he gets to introduce Doom, the Dark Ages.
*00:01*
Yes.
*00:01*
I was on the the the plus side of uh the reviewers.
*00:01*
First up, Claire Obscure, you're not Sid Meyer.
*00:01*
So that was cool.
*00:01*
I I truly think it has that capability because one thing we miss in AAA gaming is like levity and comedy, you know?
*00:01*
That's that age-old problem.
*00:01*
Oh man, I can only imagine.
*00:01*
Which I was surprised to see isn't releasing on Xbox.
*00:01*
Any any thoughts on the hardware side before we get to their closer?
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
I love the the remakes of both of those, though I need to go back and finish the Spiral remake uh collection.
*00:01*
That pique my specific gaming interest, whether that's South of Midnight or Indiana Jones, which is like this big bombastic.
*00:01*
And uh I'm excited to have you here because the last time you were on the show was like three years ago, same time of year, June of twenty-one, and we were talking Xbox and Nintendo.
*00:01*
You know, it's funny you say I I come to your mind when you think about Xbox.
*00:01*
But CD Project Red is over in Poland and is my understanding.
*00:01*
Now that said, Asherbot looks incredible.
*00:01*
Buy a 360.
*00:01*
I I was trying to say a shoe-in and something in the bag.
*00:01*
So let's start with that.
*00:01*
Mum's a word.
*00:01*
So I have no attachment to the the series, but I have been following this reboot remake.
*00:01*
Then we we kinda what is this?
*00:01*
So to see Playground take their open world design and apply it to a more traditional mechanic style game, presumably
*00:01*
I hope it comes to fruition because there was also Mascard is like similar to Redwall.
*00:01*
Um, you know, I I think it's so it's important that these, you know, obviously one of them is a licensed project, so it's like hopefully they're enjoying doing that.
*00:01*
Um I do the thing I'm very excited for the future of Xbox and um to that point of like seeing stuff and seeing the path ahead
*00:01*
Jared, welcome back to the show.
*00:01*
And I want to know what you think of this because that's obviously not a small chunk of change, but huge implications of just what they're burning in from.
*00:01*
See, Xbox Expert coming in providing context.
*00:01*
See, uh, because I was expecting to see that, at least in some capacity, but we didn't.
*00:01*
Then we got the indie block.
*00:01*
I feel like I've seen the art of these books before, the covers.
*00:01*
And apparently that game is one of those like punch in the gut kind of games.
*00:01*
I'm looking at the trailer as you talk.
*00:01*
Gotcha.
*00:01*
Um, Iowa will be safe.
*00:01*
I wonder if it's just like hesitancy because of how bad that first reveal happened.
*00:01*
So we're not to have that this week.
*00:01*
Um with the purchase at large you're looking for profit margins, right?
*00:01*
Uh I do my own show notes uh during the the live events because I'm weird like that and I like to mark the stuff that I'm interested in.
*00:01*
Or if this was coming I mean it is coming to PlayStation, but it just like I said, it reminds me of the Order 1886 and I have an affection for that game and this seems really cool and unique and
*00:01*
Uh, with the the log uh kind of morphed into like decayed into his his mouth and stuff.
*00:01*
It looks pretty cool, and it's definitely my genre of game, and more of that from Xbox.
*00:01*
You will miss just the most Kojima-esque references to other things, but like you'll fully The plot itself is self-contained enough.
*00:01*
I couldn't remember the second part.
*00:01*
I honestly the pessimist in me was I thought we were just gonna get like a CG trailer.
*00:01*
And so to see it in action really excited me in that sense.
*00:01*
I just want to make sure he does the voice.
*00:01*
Any other nitpicks or things you wanted to elaborate on there?
*00:01*
It's so weird because they get to keep their name separate, kind of like Bethesda does, but it's all owned by Microsoft.
*00:01*
There's blood, there's you know all the gameplay mechanics you'd expect.
*00:01*
Dreadwolf, which is the sorry, which is the name of the bad guy Solace, who that story was cool in Inquisition, where basically uh spoiler alert, skip a couple of minutes if you wanna if you don't want to get spoiled on Dragon Digital because this shit
*00:01*
So from there, we get uh I think some more slam dunks, logical things.
*00:01*
I hadn't even considered that being the closer.
*00:01*
Uh but I have yet like nothing I've ever played.
*00:01*
That's just how that works.
*00:01*
Like, okay, if they have Judas coming out and they're and they're working with that, feasibly would they want another single player Bioshock game to come out anywhere near that, right?
*00:01*
Remember when Bioshock 2 had a multiplayer?
*00:01*
We shall see.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
So they they opened with that and they and then they f end the show with a direct like a 25 minute deep dive.
*00:01*
So I appreciate that and and respect it.
*00:01*
It's like first of all it's gonna be better for id because more people get to play the game they made.
*00:01*
I played the Alpha, the one that got cancelled, right?
*00:01*
Veilguard, better name for what the game is.
*00:01*
Um so you have to if you buy a used copy you have to buy the DLC.
*00:01*
Um, you know, we Happy Few didn't review all that well, but what Compulsion Games has always done very good is build a world that feels
*00:01*
But like Konami is super hit or miss.
*00:01*
I've heard some like ideas of what would be really cool.
*00:01*
So how are you feeling about this like little indie block they had in the middle of the show?
*00:01*
I knew I knew there was a a fourth one.
*00:01*
No, I have to actually have that downloaded on my Xbox.
*00:01*
We've even talked about a chapter select possibly doing gears.
*00:01*
They look really nice.
*00:01*
Of course he is.
*00:01*
Um, you know, like seventy billion dollars a lot, which is actually I was looking on the the c calendar of things and that happened a few months, I think.
*00:01*
Doom 2016 is one of my favorite games.
*00:01*
Give me the hook.
*00:01*
Uh seems like the pairing and counter system is active.
*00:01*
Um it also leads them to be able to do prequels or sequels that are in different years based on the painter and all that.
*00:01*
And this will be my introduction to Metal Gear Solid.
*00:01*
Um but then the next game, which you you bolded here, Age of Mythology Retold.
*00:01*
And I I do think that they can do something really special if they nail in and I I do agree with you.
*00:01*
I think it was just a smidge too long, not in the context of the game, but just in the context of the showcase.
*00:01*
Anyway, that was the only hardware.
*00:01*
No, I have not played every Gears.
*00:01*
You've played all the mainline Gears games that people think of when you say Gears of War, which is totally makes sense.
*00:01*
The best way to experience Gears of War is co-op.
*00:01*
Um Nintendo is doing that with Nintendo Switch Online and subscribing for classic games and that library and catalog.
*00:01*
Um and I think it's been bumped up once before, but I suspect it will be bumped up again as we go forward.
*00:01*
I beat that game.
*00:01*
Um but you know if they just brought twin snakes to modern consoles that would be great too but anyway I digress
*00:01*
I like that Xbox kinda has this little wedge that they're servicing seemingly well.
*00:01*
It might be a little insensitive, but is Michael Ironside still alive?
*00:01*
We can uh we'll definitely put a pin in that and follow up on it next year.
*00:01*
What do you want to work on?
*00:01*
It's had a date.
*00:01*
You you've piqued my interest to go watch that gameplay as well.
*00:01*
Gears of War E-Day.
*00:01*
So I started a replay.
*00:01*
Shout out uh what's that new studio?
*00:01*
I I like it.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
I but like, how are you feeling after watching this almost two-hour showcase?
*00:01*
Holy agree with that.
*00:01*
Doom specifically.
*00:01*
But you know, Marty is like a more fair complexed guy.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Yeah, uh that came out.
*00:01*
I guess that but like makes sense.
*00:01*
I'm just trying to think of like what version of a game is on Game Pass.
*00:01*
It kind of reminds me of like those it's like those generational transitions where contracts expired and like Sony would come in with more money or Xbox would come in and like steal the reveal exclus I don't know.
*00:01*
And I I would guarantee that.
*00:01*
Konami doing the Capcom thing and we get these remakes every couple of years and then I'll be golden.
*00:01*
I hope this game comes out, period.
*00:01*
So hopefully Ubisoft doesn't uh botch that one.
*00:01*
He's very old.
*00:01*
It looked they they showed uh uh stuff for it and it looked incredibly beautiful, but they canceled it.
*00:01*
Is it still Soul Souls likes?
*00:01*
I really like the Outer Worlds.
*00:01*
Yeah, Pim Steampunk Shock.
*00:01*
Like that's what Naughty Dog is doing now.
*00:01*
Um maybe.
*00:02*
I know he didn't start right after Infinite, but and then you look at Grand Theft Auto Five and you're like, well
*00:02*
Um, I think it even stands out more so because of how lackluster, summer game fest, opening night, whatever the hell you call it, and the state of play was.
*00:02*
Um given the recent like more games are just coming cross-platform from them.
*00:02*
It was where like the the he fired everybody on one day's notice.
*00:02*
These are big IP from companies, people.
*00:02*
You see the beautiful environments like what kind of gameplay is this?
*00:02*
So I I played the Metal Gear games I think in the order of like two, one, three, four, I think.
*00:02*
I was like, maybe they're just trying to hit the exact day, but it's a Sunday this year, so it doesn't make sense to release the game.
*00:02*
And then we get another trailer that light on gameplay would have hoped for more.
*00:02*
The humor and the decision making are the two most important aspects of Fable to me.
*00:02*
So maybe I'm truly have lost maybe there was something at Games Fest.
*00:02*
And then they also decided to have a, I want to say it was $650.
*00:02*
The details that came out afterward were that it's obviously a prequel uh and it's set on emergence day and it's going they're they're going for a more like horror-centric vibe where they want um
*00:02*
I mean the coalition is going to be pivotal to a lot of studios at Xbox because they are the unrealistic
*00:02*
There are different services that do the same sort of thing.
*00:02*
I'm very excited for uh Blade.
*00:02*
I think I I I would love for that situation to be corrected as best as possible uh in the favor of Mick Gordon based off
*00:02*
And I liked that.
*00:02*
Yeah, I don't know.
*00:02*
I mean, but in reality, he's also probably the reason they even got the license from Lucasfilm.
*00:02*
It just games were coming out much quicker than.
*00:02*
We got uh Wu Chang.
*00:02*
It is good to see it coming in 2024 alongside.
*00:02*
It was good to see.
*00:02*
And so like Xbox just wants to stick in people's mind that next generation is coming and it is the most powerful Xbox ever, which is all statements they can say because
*00:02*
Um, they're other big Gears fans and they grew up playing them together, so they kinda always default play together, which makes total sense.
*00:02*
Like I had never really played Resident Evil except for Seven and Village.
*00:02*
We um we had a couple more notes down at the bottom, which were kinda like nitpicks.
*00:02*
We just have a different type of thing.
*00:02*
Um that one isn't really rated because it's just like a a business perspective.
*00:02*
Uh Evil with Thin.
*00:02*
I I wrote down in the notes major the initiative vibes because when they created that studio, made that announcement a whopping six or seven years ago, they were like
*00:02*
I think that's more just the the nature where these things have to be the pace has to be a certain speed or whatever, or you're gonna lose people.
*00:02*
So and I I think that is something where maybe me and you differ on where I don't want to see extended gameplay demos and developers coming out and talking about the game during a presentation because
*00:02*
It's even better, obviously, if you can do the Fallout 4 style reveal where it's like, here it is, and it's out in six months, you know, that's great.
*00:02*
They're like filling in the market while games like Civ Civ 7 was just announced last week.
*00:02*
Um yeah, I'm happy for those people.
*00:02*
It's gonna be my first introduction to Indiana Jones, which might be blasphemous to some people like my Metal Gear Solid Delta thing.
*00:02*
Well, let's just remake, remaster, put it out, and keep generating revenue.
*00:02*
Um and I get that COVID has upset a lot of development and extended cycles and things like that, but I really want a good showcase from them.
*00:02*
But whatever.
*00:02*
My dream scenario for that would be they recently announced that Arcane Season 2 is coming out in November of 2024, and it's gonna be the last season of that show.
*00:02*
Exactly.
*00:02*
Um, but you know, the shadow space itself, the DLC looks cool.
*00:02*
The whole thing is whimsical, it's fun.
*00:02*
That would be dope.
*00:02*
Yeah, Loki was cool until MCU apparently.
*00:02*
Um, I'll tell you this much: playground games, I am like the opp whatever you think of a car guy in your brain, I am the direct opposite of that.
*00:02*
Oh I no, I did not like the ship mechanics.
*00:02*
So there's that.
*00:02*
Uh and yes, I'm glad you're a part of the I ain't calling that X.
*00:02*
It's such a big IP that that's they couldn't have justified that to Satyanadella and the rest of Microsoft.
*00:02*
And like, I mean speaking of Ken Levine, his team, Ghost Story, still owned by 2K, but based off some interviews lately, I think
*00:02*
We speaking of PlayStation real quick, a lot of people are saying it gave uh Canis Bridge of Spirits vibes.
*00:02*
Actually, if you look on the Xbox Wire blog, anything that is multi-platform, uh, you have to in parentheses, they say see developer website for other platforms.
*00:02*
Uh I'm looking up Redwall, right?
*00:02*
It is very interesting.
*00:02*
Yeah, they're funky.
*00:02*
The really Star something.
*00:02*
So to close them makes zero sense.
*00:02*
There's there's no shortage of video game adaptations these days.
*00:02*
Like the big thing for me is is this launching day one in Game Pass to provide value as to why I own an Xbox?
*00:02*
But in terms of the gameplay that came out, that's why it became my game of the show because I'm a dragon age dude.
*00:02*
Down the line they get added for sure, if that's what you're going at.
*00:02*
So I have a tough thing with old game is old sometimes.
*00:02*
Like they just didn't put it there, uh, which is their prerogative.
*00:02*
And so I continue to be like, all right, Fable, I see you.
*00:02*
I love a good coming of age.
*00:02*
That's probably why I never was interested in um like watching them.
*00:02*
They're not quite giving everything we thought they would give, and mostly just a date in that sense, I guess.
*00:02*
I was working while it was on.
*00:02*
But I was stunned that there was no handheld console at all, especially given that Phil Spencer ostensibly confirmed it in the following interview with my Ryan McCaffrey overnight.
*00:02*
I like I tried here's the thing.
*00:02*
And now they just have to deliver.
*00:02*
I'm just going based off like what makes sense, right, for things that got shut down.
*00:02*
Is it coming?
*00:02*
Who also has had some issues and I think now is running for the Senate or Congress in a weird world position.
*00:02*
So uh I would compare but yes, a third person Iron Man mechanics, definitely there.
*00:02*
The DLC comes out later this year.
*00:02*
They had an update that went live the day of the showcase, which added the creator's hub for mods and stuff.
*00:02*
But I get that it's a they have to dance this fine line with the original and and new stuff.
*00:02*
Yeah, recent report especially recent reports saying that the game is in uh development hell, major troubles.
*00:02*
Yeah, I I agree.
*00:02*
You know, they're different types of games.
*00:02*
Uh but mixtape, I was saying during the show with my buddies, uh I was like, this is giving me like that that
*00:02*
Um I am cautiously optimistic and I'm looking forward to it.
*00:02*
I know there's a lot of hate for him online.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
I think Xbox underestimated the pop culture impact Fall It would have.
*00:02*
A lot has changed in those three years, both for Xbox and personally between the both of us.
*00:02*
It is definitely the internet, and there was never a doubt in my mind that it was going to come to
*00:02*
Um the whole development cycle seemed like it was uh not doing well.
*00:02*
I have friends who, despite the zombie genre becoming played out, were kind of coming back on it again.
*00:02*
Okay.
*00:02*
But when it's a DLC, it makes it easier for me because it's actually easier if like, how would I put this?
*00:02*
I think that's one thing that people talk about.
*00:02*
Um, you know, Metal Gear Soda is one of those things that's always looked cool.
*00:02*
If I go back to the the OG games that I'm gonna have that time, and I don't want to ruin the experience for myself because I know this franchise is so beloved.
*00:02*
So yeah, Delta is looking sharp and clearly
*00:02*
So, real quick, I think Flintlock was the only trailer in the showcase that felt like an ad.
*00:02*
We got gameplay.
*00:02*
It was um Bob Odenkirk.
*00:02*
I think they're gonna be the the big demo next year.
*00:02*
I said there was something tied with Fable is my most anticipated Xbox game, but I wasn't like it wasn't my the best showing for the showcase for me.
*00:02*
Now we we're like we get one Assassin's Creed from different studios, obviously, but that's still wild.
*00:02*
They were like, this is what they wanted to see.
*00:02*
Um, and it's also going to show the origin of the chainsaw lancer, which is really cool.
*00:02*
And then Everwild was the game I thought would show up and like they'd pop their head up and be like I did because there's been rumors of it
*00:02*
And I thought that seeing the rare logo outside of Sea of Thieves would be a really kind of
*00:02*
Like everyone's playing things close to the vest now.
*00:02*
So thank you, buddy, for taking the time to talk to me.
*00:02*
You're gonna potentially soon, uh in now in 2024 and beyond, going to get all the old Call of Duty games.
*00:02*
It was gonna take that long regardless, and I'm kind of thankful it did for the perspective of, you know
*00:02*
Castlevania on Netflix.
*00:02*
Mick Gordon situation over Doom Eternal soundtrack.
*00:02*
So uh Yeah, and we did we did see gameplay for State of Decay 3.
*00:02*
But then you see the gameplay, and the gameplay does the opposite where the cinematic pulled you in because there was so much personality, it was fun.
*00:02*
Concorde, right?
*00:02*
I it uh my brain went into two different places.
*00:02*
Winterboro.
*00:02*
Sad that all of the uh whistleblowing and all that stuff came out with that studio.
*00:02*
Played Captain Spirit, which is a gut punch.
*00:02*
Cool stuff.
*00:02*
Do you you I'm off Twitter, so I don't know if people are still tweeting over there, but you're at JaredWeitch over there.
*00:02*
That's that's really I would love to see that too.
*00:02*
Um, it leads to redundancies, which lead to layoffs.
*00:02*
There's overlap, consolidation.
*00:02*
Obviously it's not open world.
*00:02*
I love how they showcased how even though this is a first-person quote unquote shooter, that there are aspects of it that are different than other games like it, the ability to shoot through like three walls.
*00:02*
It just didn't work for me, and it seems like it didn't work for a lot of people, unfortunately.
*00:02*
Um I'm like, oh, there's more for those people uh who like those decision games with supernatural teenagers and and all that stuff.
*00:02*
He is obviously a phenomenal voice actor, and he portray, you know, he is some of my favorite video game characters of all time.
*00:02*
I um Yeah.
*00:02*
You're absolutely right.
*00:02*
Uh we know this is gonna be the I mean, I hope I'm right with this, the first from the ground up uh Unreal 5 game for the coalition.
*00:02*
1 stereo surround sound.
*00:02*
So it sounds like this is typical Gears of War of pushing Unreal Engine forward and and doing all that sort of stuff.
*00:02*
And you know, yeah, it took like three years for it to happen, but I do appreciate the due process of everyone checking their P's and Q's.
*00:02*
Uh one thing too that we can consider with Tango because it's the one studio in Japan is it could be one of those weird business logistics things too, because they have a lot of studios in North America, they have a lot of studios in like Europe.
*00:02*
Um, but I just kind of get the same vibe of that announcement, that initial initiative announcement, which is like
*00:02*
So I did want to say uh another thing that's happened in the three years since was the whole um
*00:02*
Phantom Liberty.
*00:02*
And it gave it a good energy for the rest of the show.
*00:02*
Um, I like your idea of starting here, and I think uh the only
*00:02*
Um, but this to me, my one worry, and we've never heard about this, is if like this was strong arm to machine.
*00:02*
Oh it had a last year.
*00:02*
Stuff goes wrong, also outside of their control, like you said, with the acquisition.
*00:02*
Not that they can't be accomplished, but I think it's way easier to deliver an animation uh than it is live action.
*00:02*
Not a good guy.
*00:02*
I'm like, that looks dope.
*00:02*
That's I totally get that.
*00:02*
I don't believe there was a date for this.
*00:02*
A staggering animation to it purposefully.
*00:02*
Um yeah, I could see that.
*00:02*
They're just not it's one of those things where I totally get if you grow up with it and you have the muscle memory and you dig it.
*00:02*
Obviously, no Ever Wild here.
*00:02*
They have earlier this year, Xbox did like this quad game direct or three-game direct or something.
*00:02*
But as someone who has not played the original Fable games, I still enjoyed the tone of this.
*00:02*
And it's like, we'd like to make a Spider-Man game.
*00:02*
Like, not even if it's not for a show, but just to play it with him in particular.
*00:02*
I'm torn.
*00:02*
I'm your host, Max Roberts, and I have the distinct pleasure of being joined by my friend.
*00:02*
I remember this because it was in New Orleans.
*00:02*
I thought it was great to see this game in action finally and see that art style in motion.
*00:02*
And I think they're starting to shift that a little bit, uh, which is good.
*00:02*
Now now you put me in the camp of Amp, for sure.
*00:02*
So I think your only trouble would be one and two in that sense.
*00:02*
Like was caught me off guard a little bit.
*00:02*
So we kind of highlighted all of these.
*00:02*
I have not played an Assassin's Creed game since Black Flag.
*00:02*
Um Yeah, it's definitely give the souls vibes like you were saying, but then they're like, no, we're an action RPG, which is it's interesting that it's almost like
*00:02*
Um so yeah, and then they wrap up with the Call of Duty direct.
*00:02*
Um we have Doom, the Dark Ages, we have Fable, and we have uh South of Midnight.
*00:02*
Everything's kind of under three tenth poles.
*00:03*
So Tango Gameworks was so surprising.
*00:03*
It had.
*00:03*
Starfield, I understand, and actually I I'm now in the camp of I think Starfield will eventually
*00:03*
And Dragon Age was a big get to see.
*00:03*
Let's rename it the Veilguard because we want the emphasis to be put on the game is about building that bond with your party members, not on the bad guy, which I think is a smart choice.
*00:03*
Wait, I'm holding I'm confused now.
*00:03*
Uh I've been very nervous about this game and have had tempered expectations and this
*00:03*
The non-lethal versus lethal gameplay.
*00:03*
He was working on a mouse Yes, Rogue One, yes, very much so.
*00:03*
But like our age, who's never seen Indiana Jones or engaged with it, what would they think?
*00:03*
This game is too colorful.
*00:03*
Great.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Um, but it's been a busy, we'll say busy.
*00:03*
Man, what is his name?
*00:03*
No, nothing.
*00:03*
Um so thankfully he's not attached to the Fable franchise anymore.
*00:03*
The cards, right?
*00:03*
I don't know if you're familiar.
*00:03*
I'm sorry.
*00:03*
So I have faith in machine games.
*00:03*
But yeah, man.
*00:03*
Here's the thing.
*00:03*
And if they want to do a 20-minute deep dive on Call of Duty, they can just do whenever.
*00:03*
Something.
*00:03*
It's a game's first studio.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Life is strange, double exposure, total monkey's paw.
*00:03*
And then the PS4 was Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy, and The Last was Part 2.
*00:03*
And purple, I feel like, is the key color.
*00:03*
Um, so they just want you to associate next gen with Xbox as early as possible.
*00:03*
And I feel like a similar way with with Gears of War here as well.
*00:03*
But I think that does it for our conversation about Xbox and the showcase here.
*00:03*
It's terrible.
*00:03*
But you know, this seems to be kind of the talk of the town lately is all of these closures because it's not just Microsoft and Xbox.
*00:03*
They, you know, they all produced a wide range of games, varying quality, and for different markets.
*00:03*
Evil with Thin, thank you.
*00:03*
Uh I helped me.
*00:03*
But yeah, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Um Peacewalker are kind of like the beginnings and then things progress from there.
*00:03*
I totally get why they had the warning.
*00:03*
You may think of us as just the people that make card games, go vroom.
*00:03*
This this E3 just fest.
*00:03*
I mean, this isn't even just an Xbox thing.
*00:03*
It says to Netflix.
*00:03*
And so it was really nice to see it.
*00:03*
But he um uh was he in yeah, he is a nobody.
*00:03*
And I do think Fable is one of those key franchises for Xbox that deserves to be
*00:03*
I'm not really into that, but I like the aesthetic of you being a mouse and your auntie getting taken and all that stuff.
*00:03*
Because usually it's a Eastern fiction thing that includes Cthulhu or or sorry, European or
*00:03*
Uh I'm curious to see what reviews will say, what people will say, as I always look forward to
*00:03*
So we will see.
*00:03*
Like it was part of buying an Xbox.
*00:03*
Uh um but I was also did you play tactics?
*00:03*
I got like 25 hours in.
*00:03*
If they can't make Metal Gear, he'll they'll pay him to make something like it.
*00:03*
But thank you all so much for listening and until next time.
*00:03*
The support is kind of like a five.
*00:03*
I think it's been a a while since they've had like a bad showcase, which is impressive because there were times there where they weren't great.
*00:03*
Give me a crossbow that shoots spines.
*00:03*
So d I was not, you know, out here like, let's go Anthem.
*00:03*
Yes, yeah, yeah.
*00:03*
Yeah, it's cool.
*00:03*
I think it showed very well.
*00:03*
Like I'm interested in just I'm not a huge Harrison Ford guy.
*00:03*
And I like that.
*00:03*
I have the distinct pleasure of being able to bring my friends and guests to the show.
*00:03*
Not because I was looking forward to Redfall necessarily, but more just like the idea seems so cool and the studio is right, but reading and watching some of the turmoil.
*00:03*
Did I type that wrong?
*00:03*
You don't have to take things too seriously, you know what I mean?
*00:03*
When Line Time got cancelled?
*00:03*
Basically, as the game goes on, I'm gonna keep this very top level.
*00:03*
So th the only thing I wanted to mention real quick is uh Starfield came out last year, obviously.
*00:03*
So I'm all I'm all in on perfect art.
*00:03*
I knew it was gonna have stealth elements, but I didn't realize how immersive sim was gonna be, which I really enjoyed.
*00:03*
It's the same with David Hayter and Solid Snake, and it is
*00:03*
Yeah, they've uh that if there's anything I've wanted to know, it is uh or if there is anything I know about Blizzard, it is that their animation is always top.
*00:03*
That's kind of why I what I was thinking there, but uh I do know that that game is also in some sort of development hell
*00:03*
Um I would give this like a 9-5 out of 10.
*00:03*
I just kind of wanted more gameplay.
*00:03*
I never really use that if I'm being quite honest.
*00:03*
You know what I mean?
*00:03*
I assume that comes to Game Pass.
*00:03*
And it seems like this game has turn-based combat, but also has active elements.
*00:03*
Yes, I imagine he will.
*00:03*
DLC?
*00:03*
Yeah, I liked I liked it a lot.
*00:03*
We'll see.
*00:03*
We're not a souls-like.
*00:03*
Uh I'm very interested in Avout.
*00:03*
I I always people are like Logan the other day said, I'm gonna replay all the Gears games.
*00:03*
That's good.
*00:03*
Um, two projects on here are kind of the same vibe: Toys for Bob and the IO Interactive Project 007 game.
*00:03*
So I'm hopefully they actually have it direct, hopefully soon.
*00:03*
It felt it felt like an older E3 presentation.
*00:03*
So I am I am hopeful for Dragon Age, both for what it means to its fans and that franchise, but also to what it means for Bioware and
*00:03*
I thought there was a game where you played as a monkey, but I'm looking at this list.
*00:03*
It seems neat.
*00:03*
Assassin's Creed Shadows was like a tease.
*00:03*
Sometimes there G's weird clauses business wise that aid in
*00:03*
Chasing that bag as you put it.
*00:03*
You know what I mean?
*00:03*
Uh one of my favorite first-person shooters.
*00:03*
So now I waited out and I'm uh gonna get to that this year too with all of that.
*00:03*
So you have Ra, you have Zeus, you have, you know, all of them.
*00:03*
Um, but that actually makes a ton of sense for them to lean again into that first party.
*00:03*
Um, reminded me of uh Neon White, I think was what that game was called.
*00:03*
I'm not a huge survival crafting guy, Max, so I was I'm the type of person that would kind of check out on this too.
*00:03*
Like I'd have to give it a shot.
*00:03*
Cool.
*00:03*
I've been meaning to get to it.
*00:03*
I went and finished Fallout, went back to go play Fallout 4, uh, because I'd never done the DLC, hopped in on my level like 50 character.
*00:03*
Everware.
*00:03*
Well, those are uh heavy words.
*00:03*
Certainly, I feel confident in saying cheaper than the San Francisco Bay Area.
*00:03*
And maybe they're holding part of it.
*00:03*
Like a an animated Bioshock with their art skills would be phenomenal.
*00:03*
I think it was mostly centered on Xbox uh owned uh stuff.
*00:03*
And you know, the other argument is we've already seen enough of out in Indiana Jones.
*00:03*
I'll I'll I'm I'm I'll I'll do allegedly for legal reasons, but not a good guy, allegedly.
*00:03*
It's the first game Undead Labs is making under Microsoft with their support, right?
*00:03*
Even the Diablo vessel of hatred isn't coming to Game Pass.
*00:03*
I think this game if if it even just has like
*00:03*
I think it's gonna be like the world building and the narrative and stuff like that.
*00:03*
So I was excited when they I they announced that they were doing Fable years ago.
*00:03*
Um it it is very unique.
*00:03*
For some reason I thought that was uh all consoles at last.
*00:03*
She did they did not do the handheld like was rumored and expected.
*00:03*
Because that sounds awful.
*00:03*
The fact that it's launching a game pass makes it a low risk opportunity to get into a new IP, which is always awesome.
*00:03*
It's unique in that sense.
*00:03*
And so when you hear them, they're gonna remake one of the most beloved Metal Gear games right after they released a collection that will like
*00:03*
But yes, Michael Ironside should be the voice of Sam Fisher until
*00:03*
Well, they're both hero shooters coming out relatively soon.
*00:03*
And it's so funny that I mean if you were talking in the PS3 360 era, I think
*00:03*
Um, they are certainly, I think, Sony's most valuable studio at the
*00:03*
But you should go back and watch it, the thing that they showed at the UB Ford, because it does a really good job at explaining the reason there's two protagonists and their gameplay difference.
*00:03*
It's a blast.
*00:03*
I want Toys for Bob to be making Spyro 4, right?
*00:03*
They've they've done the announced games years in advance and it's not gone well for them.
*00:03*
Like I just want that too.
*00:03*
Xbox uh played a lot of Xbox.
*00:03*
Um It doesn't seem to say oh no, live action.
*00:04*
So overall, a really solid showcase if I if I had to throw a number to it.
*00:04*
I've no Bioware experience beyond half of Mass Effect 1 on the PS3.
*00:04*
It was a very cool and unique looking game, and I'm curious what you felt about it, um, what you thought seeing this.
*00:04*
We'll see more maybe later this year or early next year.
*00:04*
And so Logan's guess, and what turned out most likely to be correct, is some intern looked up Metal Gear Solid 3 release date and just typed it in.
*00:04*
No, I'm just kidding.
*00:04*
I can't really even have an opinion on that.
*00:04*
Um Yeah, that would be a good one.
*00:04*
It sucks.
*00:04*
So when I call you the Xbox expert, that's what I think of you as.
*00:04*
Oh yeah, you're right.
*00:04*
Cannot wait.
*00:04*
But that definitely like that definitely was lingering in the background for me.
*00:04*
Concord showed that trailer that was definitely Guardians of the Galaxy.
*00:04*
So like I don't mind paying two dollars for a couch from a rando that modded it in, but paying two dollars for a couch from Bethesda.
*00:04*
So even more reason to like if you haven't played it yet, you're in a much better position to play that and its DLC because it would flow better together.
*00:04*
No one's ever gonna call this game Claire Obscure Expedition 33, right?
*00:04*
Like, is this a linear very linear game?
*00:04*
Uh I've always been interested in mythology since I was a kid.
*00:04*
I've earned this.
*00:04*
I think I think it's I love it.
*00:04*
Like keep it up.
*00:04*
And I was like, this is it.
*00:04*
And so I wonder if they're intentionally waiting to put the catalog.
*00:04*
That's a good name.
*00:04*
But I kind of thought they would give Rare the opportunity or ability to like
*00:04*
So the easiest one is the fan perspective in that as somebody who owns an Xbox, who subscribes to Xbox Game Pass,
*00:04*
Evil Dead is a good thing.
*00:04*
I would think.
*00:04*
You know what's funny whenever I think of that stuff?
*00:04*
But uh here's the thing too, in the modern age, like I understand where you're coming from with the the lack of extended gameplay demos.
*00:04*
I would almost guarantee you it's gonna be very rare unless there's some like really bad stuff with the scheduling of their releases where Call of Duty is that 30 minute direct after the show
*00:04*
And so I I came up with shoe in the bag in my brain.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
Yeah, something.
*00:04*
Um it it all seemed like a world worth exploring.
*00:04*
So it never felt like it would be the 17th, but it was this funny situation nonetheless, I think, to see it.
*00:04*
So because Peacewalker is over-the-shoulder third person, and then obviously Minogue Solid uh four and five also do this.
*00:04*
So it seems kind of like that genre is thriving a little bit.
*00:04*
Diablo DLC next, which had a very I noticed this.
*00:04*
If this wasn't launching into Game Pass, I'm gonna be honest, unless it was getting incredible reviews, might not give it a second glance.
*00:04*
You know you mention it.
*00:04*
So I have literally zero attachment to Indiana Jones.
*00:04*
And it just game to me has always just felt like it's too colorful.
*00:04*
You know what I mean?
*00:04*
I can see arguments for the others.
*00:04*
He's great.
*00:04*
That's going to be tough to get back into because I've already completed the main game.
*00:04*
So that's one part that people miss out on, is it's just assumed that the DLC is at it and it's not most often.
*00:04*
No, I'm just joking.
*00:04*
I wasn't expecting this game to be a third-person action adventure, and I don't even know if that was previously stated that it was going to be that genre of game, so I wasn't quite expecting
*00:04*
Because they're not they're not there.
*00:04*
We got cutscenes, big vibe check, a look of visuals and things, no date, which is just astounding.
*00:04*
Big head mode, environmental changes.
*00:04*
They have held
*00:04*
Souls range.
*00:04*
But maybe that's something they dole out over time.
*00:04*
So yeah, I've played every Gears of War game, uh, which shouldn't be too shocking.
*00:04*
There was some weird stuff going on as there always is.
*00:04*
Like I just it I think everything was handled the way it should have been handled for the most part, loosely speaking.
*00:04*
Because to me, I was like, this game has been announced forever, like it's gotta show up by now.
*00:04*
But to your point, it's almost like you're picking up the game of the year edition that has all the DLC already included and you're just playing around like it.
*00:04*
Like you're giving me a 70-hour experience for 20 bucks.
*00:04*
I love that one.
*00:04*
I'm more curious about the structure of it, but it it is tied with another game we'll talk about later on as my game of the showcase.
*00:04*
But yeah, you're talking to your your sailing companion.
*00:04*
Oh, that'd be sick.
*00:04*
Um but they put it in front of this one in the middle of the showcase, which kinda
*00:04*
I'll kind of call it like the indie block, makes some sense, uh, with fragpunk, winterboro, and mixtape.
*00:04*
Skull and bones might be your thing then.
*00:04*
I just find it hard to get back into that Ubisoft open world mentality now that I've been out of it so long.
*00:04*
The interesting thing to me, when I went and looked at the description of this game, they labeled it as a Souls like, which you'd be like, well yeah, if you're making a Souls like you want to label it as.
*00:04*
Like especially since those servers are back up for the older ones and the prices for those games went up.
*00:04*
It was like coming home for them.
*00:04*
Toys for Bob, this is super funny.
*00:04*
Netflix is working on it.
*00:04*
So I wholeheartedly agree with you.
*00:04*
That makes total sense, you explaining that and saying that to me.
*00:04*
It was way cooler.
*00:04*
And then we get kind of our first second, third party type game that's out of the blue that looks really funky and cool.
*00:04*
Is this gonna be a soulz like?
*00:04*
So this game takes place in the jungles of Russia, if I'm remembering.
*00:04*
It's like, well, they pitched it as this.
*00:04*
I actually I was reminded of how like how little hope I had because I think actually in the last episode of this show, during predictions
*00:04*
I'm not.
*00:04*
It just feels like he was brought out and he's not, you know, he's not in charge.
*00:04*
It's it almost feels like in that sense, that visual style sense, it's trying so hard to disassociate itself with
*00:04*
Uh if anyone remembers that, it's similar in style.
*00:04*
It's so funny.
*00:04*
From from things like Winterboro with its survival type game to a team shooter with Frag Punk, or you've got
*00:04*
Um the Keelys, the summer Keelys.
*00:04*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:04*
It looked awesome.
*00:04*
Toxic workplace culture, very bad stuff.
*00:04*
What was that fable game that was like a dungeon master thing where like it was asymmetrical multiplayer where
*00:04*
And there's a game coming up on the Xbox showcase that I think showed off a reason for that more than Concord.
*00:04*
That makes me so upset.
*00:04*
Yeah, they've been teasing.
*00:04*
I got persona vibes from it in that way, but it's it's very French inspired in the art.
*00:04*
It looks really interesting.
*00:04*
So that alone piqued my interest.
*00:04*
We see even saw like some dope traversal mechanics with like this
*00:04*
And I know that sounds super blasphemous to a bunch of people out there.
*00:04*
Not super surprising there, but it is interesting nonetheless to see it show up here.
*00:04*
Not that Kiefer Sutherland did not do a good job.
*00:04*
He's like, I gotta work on an Indiana Jones game.
*00:04*
I mean, if you smaller scopes.
*00:04*
I'm excited to see more of these ideas.
*00:04*
Uh but you wanted to talk about this one.
*00:04*
So I'll make sure to do my homework there.
*00:04*
Ever what?
*00:04*
Um how are you feeling about that?
*00:04*
You might have like one or two.
*00:04*
That just doesn't happen anymore.
*00:04*
But shortly after that.
*00:04*
And then in April, so two months ago, Strang closed the studio citing cancellation of the publishing relationship.
*00:04*
Is it vaporware?
*00:04*
So this is closer in art style to the original Dragon Age.
*00:04*
It's neat to see.
*00:04*
But yeah, that was weird because it felt like No no no.
*00:04*
And then nothing fallout besides 76, which was odd given the success of the show.
*00:04*
And then I got mad and then I'm like, why is Obsidian working on Outer Worlds 2?
*00:04*
You wrote down this list, which I wish I had thought to go look up and write down, but you wrote down the list of known quantities that were missing this year.
*00:04*
Not, you know, I feel like the stuff that Sony's been showing in a second party capacity has been fairly predictable in the sense of
*00:04*
But Phil then comes on stage and talks about the industry and where they're at and how excited he is.
*00:04*
Just watch it and understand its classic Dragon Age
*00:04*
Which is bioware in general, right?
*00:04*
And there's a lot riding on Dragon Age for Bioware, especially after Andromeda.
*00:04*
Um Tim Burton.
*00:04*
I definitely could see that vibe.
*00:04*
Aura history untold which just got a release date the day we're recording this.
*00:04*
I think it overall it showed very well.
*00:04*
Like if it ends up coming out on that God of War 2018 Last of Us One level, I think that's gonna be a huge win for Xbox.
*00:04*
This is like so I've I've mentioned a couple of times where I thought we were gonna get more gameplay.
*00:04*
But I am more excited for this game based off of the vibe of the cutscene and how it played out.
*00:04*
Machine games, man, the Wolfenstein games, uh you know, the last one not included.
*00:04*
So Right, yeah.
*00:04*
I was it was the best part of that UB Ford.
*00:04*
It was the same cycle.
*00:04*
Now we have thirty three immortals and Expedition thirty three
*00:04*
Um can't wait.
*00:04*
It is elsewhere.
*00:04*
Like it's it's awesome.
*00:04*
Like for it to be there at all was a surprise, let alone seeing hints at gameplay and the the themes represented with, you know, keeping the memory of your fallen ones and all that stuff.
*00:04*
You're in Florida, so you would know better than I.
*00:04*
I s or I don't know.
*00:04*
Again, we had no hope.
*00:04*
I'm not saying that this is easy, but clearly Xbox also just believes in buying studios as well.
*00:04*
It was like, oh, we're we're going somewhere, and I get it, Diablo, hell, all that stuff.
*00:04*
Yeah, Vessel of Hatred, yeah.
*00:04*
They just are with cars.
*00:04*
This is the game that gets the direct next showcase.
*00:04*
Like that n narratively sounds super cool and totally something I'd be into.
*00:04*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:04*
So I don't know if they do that to like avoid expectations or whatever.
*00:04*
But yeah, they obsidian also did grounded, right?
*00:04*
Summers are weird now.
*00:04*
It's that Netflix model, or if we want to keep it in video games, Gamefly.
*00:04*
So that Ubisoft forward was something, man.
*00:04*
And it's it's hokey and weird and funny.
*00:04*
I think I think the other thing was is the fact that it was renamed and I I missed that news.
*00:04*
This is exciting to me because I don't know if you're like me, uh, Max, but like if I the thing that happened with Starfield where I played it and something else happened
*00:04*
I forgot how to play that game at a high level.
*00:04*
I never got around to playing that.
*00:04*
Phantom Liberty, there you go.
*00:04*
So uh it sounds like they're respecting the source material.
*00:04*
So i uh I was talking about that with Logan.
*00:04*
They're not supposed to do that for me, but I just find it really funny.
*00:04*
So Agent Mythology Retold, the only reason I wanted to talk about this real quick is this is a total nostalgia play.
*00:04*
Fair I did not expect to see it.
*00:04*
It's exciting.
*00:04*
But the difference the difference is wild.
*00:04*
Yeah, resistance.
*00:04*
I have yet to play a Gears of War game.
*00:04*
It's clear based off that Phil Spencer interview with the Brian McCaffrey again.
*00:04*
I'm totally blinking on it.
*00:04*
So it here's a the weird thing.
*00:04*
It very much the art style is that across the Spider-Ver vibe, which I love.
*00:04*
I can imagine where it goes.
*00:04*
Keep doing your thing, Obsidian.
*00:04*
Well that's that's kinda he's always talked about it, but in our in our little group of like five buddies that
*00:04*
Like it's on our short list of potential seasons.
*00:04*
Man, people might hate me for this.
*00:04*
As for me, you can find all of my writing over at maxfrequency.
*00:04*
There's some pluses and negatives, and it's kind of iffy.
*00:04*
Yeah, here's the thing, is like with Ken Levine too, I love Ken Levine, but like
*00:04*
Agreed.
*00:04*
I know a lot of people were kind of mixed on it.
*00:04*
Apparently there's some goddess, painteress, whatever who
*00:04*
Um this is my favorite Metal Gear game, which is why I have such an affinity
*00:04*
And the the plot did sound actually totally up my alley as far as
*00:04*
Uh that was what turned me off of Black Flag.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
And I was sh I was shocked.
*00:04*
You know what I mean?
*00:04*
Unfortunately, it seems like I've been tied to a lot of not so great things recently, you know, previous to the Xbox showcase.
*00:05*
You talk about like what's Jade Raymond's studio that like PlayStation acquired Haven?
*00:05*
So, but compared to those, I think it even made
*00:05*
And the other guy uh is a darker complexion.
*00:05*
This is like on perfect dark area to to build a.
*00:05*
You read stuff online and you're like, I just don't understand how people watch the same thing I watch.
*00:05*
Yes, the PS4 PS Plus game at launch, I remember.
*00:05*
And I was excited to see this when it first popped up.
*00:05*
Um, not too much to say on this.
*00:05*
It's simple, it's not as beautiful as Pentiment, but it is that like painterly, renaissance-y, like thick bold lines art style.
*00:05*
Getting a Wikipedia article for the show notes.
*00:05*
It also felt a little bit, I don't mean this in a negative way, but like Todd was brought out to introduce Fallout 76, right?
*00:05*
And now look at them.
*00:05*
Avowed.
*00:05*
They're like, and we're hard at work on the next generation of Xbox.
*00:05*
I was reminded of its existence.
*00:05*
The one thing I wanted to say, this is also going to be part of my you know my hot take with the VAD being too colorful.
*00:05*
I'm like, why am I replaying Fallout 4?
*00:05*
Um so I get it.
*00:05*
I just don't think the price of Game Pass is currently
*00:05*
I thought that was an interesting location to set up a studio.
*00:05*
So that game had active turn-based combat, which is
*00:05*
I don't know much about it, but Gary Witta, um, of kinda funny.
*00:05*
I wonder how much Todd Howard is dipping his hands in this because
*00:05*
So to see a Chinese developer infuse that into Eastern culture, very excited to see what that looks like.
*00:05*
And I think when you go too colorful,
*00:05*
I feel like this will this can have an audience.
*00:05*
It was originally supposed to come out mid last year, and then it got delayed because of the war in Ukraine.
*00:05*
This is where they're gonna reveal that adorably all-digital Series X.
*00:05*
Uh but yeah, a little bit of new hardware.
*00:05*
Redfall.
*00:05*
I'm looking at my predictions that I had.
*00:05*
Like who cares?
*00:05*
And yeah, I think they're kind of understand that Marty isn't necessarily liked.
*00:05*
I don't know.
*00:05*
I don't know.
*00:05*
Well I was gonna say like the game of the year edition, right?
*00:05*
25, a launch in 2025.
*00:05*
I did not expect this to be shown, let alone have a date for
*00:05*
Mixtape was my takeaway from it and definitely was one I was like, ooh, I
*00:05*
Uh it might be in my top 100 games of all time
*00:05*
You can hear the Troy Baker coming through just a little bit.
*00:05*
I'd argue Insomniac is PlayStation's most valuable
*00:05*
Um Clockwork Revolution, which I call Bioshock Infinite, but not.
*00:05*
Yeah, everware.
*00:05*
Is there anything else I'm missing, Jared?
*00:05*
If we're purely looking at a number standpoint, out of almost all of the studios they own
*00:05*
Stadia.
*00:05*
It's like there's no reason to burn that bridge with the community in that sense.
*00:05*
Um this felt more animated, honestly, and this is
*00:05*
There is one difference in that in this one you can't control your other party members.
*00:05*
So we don't play that here, nerds.
*00:05*
But like part of me is bummed that Sea of Thieves is so successful because it means they have less resources for other projects, unfortunately.
*00:05*
But like you said, there's a commitment to remakes for them, which I appreciate.
*00:05*
And then it's unfortunately surrounded by all of this
*00:05*
And that's what I'm expecting.
*00:05*
I feel like I had to.
*00:05*
Uh I wouldn't just jump into double exposure.
*00:05*
But Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, we get this like nice trailer, a little zippy, and then we go into an extended cutscene
*00:05*
Precisely, yes.
*00:05*
So I I want them to have a dope showcase so we can look back and be like, Xbox killed it, PlayStation has a lineup, all of us who have both consoles are just
*00:05*
Oh yeah, Jared.
*00:05*
You know, fit the aesthetic.
*00:05*
If they work on these polish, budget, whatever it needs to be, that this can be a really incredible multiplayer zombie experience.
*00:05*
Um, but I totally envisioned a world where the initiative was like going to be shut down.
*00:05*
Uh he was like he had gained a lot of weight.
*00:05*
And I am so excited for this game.
*00:05*
Started too, but it was the typical, this isn't telltale, but the telltale thing where all the episodes weren't out yet, something else came up, never got back to it.
*00:05*
Well yeah, some people call I think if you're a PlayStation primary gamer, you call it a Souls Born, but most general people call it a Soul Soul.
*00:05*
Whereas the Outer World was colorful, but it it it was a play on, you know, corporations and capitalism and all that stuff, and it was wacky and I get that.
*00:05*
Um but these specs, which were optimized for streaming, do not represent the game's final performance.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Uh where they left Sophie's choice, right?
*00:05*
So it's no surprise that the exclusivity thing isn't as bolted down as people would have assumed that
*00:05*
In they the goal is to just bolster that catalog as much as possible with as much in house stuff and then keep bringing in those second and third
*00:05*
Um that's for sure.
*00:05*
You specifically want to talk about Starfield DLC.
*00:05*
But yeah, the the narrative seems very cool.
*00:05*
It does sound like they're you know they're matching cutscenes, shot for shot type thing, which is something they did not do.
*00:05*
Unfortunately, they're working on a remake, another remake of a beloved
*00:05*
Uh it's it's crazy to me.
*00:05*
They have purple everywhere.
*00:05*
Um they didn't do anything that we expected, so they they reveal new hardware.
*00:05*
You know, there that's there's that whole question too.
*00:05*
Chef Chef kiss so good.
*00:05*
You gotta have the word showcase for it to be cool.
*00:05*
Like what's happening because of all of the Jeff Strain situation and all of that.
*00:05*
But we get to our first so they Xbox comes out and they hit, you know, big first party games.
*00:05*
I I've never I think I played Sea of Thieves at launch.
*00:05*
They'd be rolling.
*00:05*
Um that that is me, Fallen Feathers.
*00:05*
It could have been $600.
*00:05*
Gears of War Six?
*00:05*
They have that financial backing to make it
*00:05*
I don't know why I typed elsewhere.
*00:05*
Yeah, so by game of the sh I guess I should rephrase it was my game of like summer game fest.
*00:05*
Recently they changed the name and they explained that they don't want the focus of this game being on the antagonist.
*00:05*
So that was also why I was a little thrown off.
*00:05*
But yeah.
*00:05*
And then and so if you're just, I guess, patient enough or stubborn enough, you could eventually get there.
*00:05*
So the thing I like about this game is it's like if
*00:05*
I've just never played it for whatever reason.
*00:05*
I think this is a pillar that they can if it ends up being what they wanted the initiative to be.
*00:05*
So that's why I'm excited for that.
*00:05*
We should let somebody know they have that headset out.
*00:05*
It was like check out more at Ubisoft Forward, which I did watch some of that gameplay and it looks like an open world assassin's creed game.
*00:05*
The original Dragon Age was more so like this where it's like
*00:05*
I just didn't understand that.
*00:05*
So we we just forget Andromeda.
*00:05*
Right?
*00:05*
Um the uh, you know,
*00:05*
But um man.
*00:05*
They also suffer from the Peter Molyneux
*00:05*
Like Bar none.
*00:05*
I and I think that's pretty cool to dig into the the mythos and of this
*00:05*
You just got all of the Gears of War games.
*00:05*
Uh they're also working really close with uh Undead Labs, I I I remember reading for State of Decay 3.
*00:05*
So Yeah, it's I'm I'm I'm certainly not worried about I.
*00:05*
You know what I mean?
*00:05*
But I to wrap up here
*00:05*
Like it's not a good or a bad thing.
*00:05*
Um Alpha Dog.
*00:05*
Uh let's see.
*00:05*
Um, but yeah, it was and you know, going into any showcase or live event, you're not gonna be interested in everything.
*00:05*
Like it's not Yeah.
*00:05*
Second of all, it's gonna be better for Xbox because it's more revenue.
*00:05*
O'Donnell.
*00:05*
Is this gonna be an action game?
*00:05*
Uh seems like the bunny is gonna be her companion.
*00:05*
So I'm excited about that.
*00:05*
Or do you play it when you're down around and because it's gonna give you an advantage, obviously.
*00:05*
That might sound weird, but I think
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
In Exile.
*00:05*
This happened when they bought Bethesda Zenamax, and now this is just a much larger scale.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
You know, Sony does the same thing, PlayStation Studios.
*00:05*
So I just that's cool.
*00:05*
So I thought it was awesome.
*00:05*
I don't know if you remember that story.
*00:05*
I I well it was not uh I wasn't like ah I want to play Anthem.
*00:05*
Got it.
*00:05*
Which is I don't know if it's a weird way to think about that.
*00:05*
Um but then you are sent in a
*00:05*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:05*
And then we get the gameplay demo.
*00:05*
Uh the difference between Age of Mythology and Age of Empires is that the leaders for your uh civilizations
*00:05*
The gameplay I'm like this kind of looks like Destiny PvP, but like
*00:05*
So Redwall is uh anthropomorphic animals.
*00:05*
He wanted to play a game together and I was like, this is cheap, and I can buy one copy and we can both play it.
*00:05*
Um that's when I dropped off.
*00:05*
Not at all, but the other thing they didn't mention in the showcase, which was usually in all of them, was like a
*00:05*
And usually they have some mention of it, no mention of it, which is fine.
*00:05*
I remember the some of the past showcases being phenomenal and really setting a path for what to expect from PlayStation.
*00:05*
You are the first person I think of when I think and talk about Xbox.
*00:05*
Um Arcane Austin honestly was just one of those things that it fell under the games of service curse of these studios.
*00:05*
It's just that one is just so weird.
*00:05*
Like a number?
*00:05*
I do appreciate that we're in a place where these AAA developers feel as if they can
*00:05*
There's some, I don't even want to mention because I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't played Starfield.
*00:05*
The UI is all awesome.
*00:05*
And then we saw the trailer last year and it had so much style and uh the the main uh protagonist looked really cool.
*00:05*
Um, and we see the combat which looks
*00:05*
I think Konami wants to get it out this year, but I would not be surprised if this is a 25 release.
*00:05*
Or like uh Rick and Morty and the the change in that actor.
*00:05*
Um but you know then they put out Ratchet and Clank Rift apart and now Spider-Man 2 and
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Because they're gonna add that over the next couple of years, Max, and then three years from now they're gonna be like
*00:05*
I would not be surprised if there is some sort of Last of Us tie-in when season two comes out next year, whether that's the PC version of part two or they finally
*00:05*
So there's like three different perspectives uh I kind of have on it.
*00:06*
So until I know they've said they're working on a new IP, but until it's stated
*00:06*
Weird.
*00:06*
A busy three years for Xbox, but
*00:06*
I didn't expect to see anything crazy.
*00:06*
But let's dive into the showcase.
*00:06*
And going forward, yeah, real quick, I just want to mention people were scared like, oh, is it just going to be the Call of Duty Direct every year?
*00:06*
So interesting.
*00:06*
I don't know how you think like the game's gonna be an MCU, the game's gonna be this, the game's gonna be that.
*00:06*
Absolutely.
*00:06*
There are some things though Camp of Amped.
*00:06*
And you just have to read it because everyone would be talking that.
*00:06*
And hopefully one day that story will be told and lessons can be learned from it and insight can be gained.
*00:06*
If Playground Games truly nails this.
*00:06*
But he still was like, I get to talk about it.
*00:06*
Yeah, and like one thing we had noted on the on the document that we didn't talk about is like
*00:06*
Like those are just the big obvious moneymakers, but there's a lot in that catalog of games from Act.
*00:06*
The supporter of the industry perspective
*00:06*
Um so that's not good.
*00:06*
I mean you even look like Ken Levina with Cloud Chamber.
*00:06*
It is a Bioshock clone.
*00:06*
And I wanted to guess just like your overall impressions, overall thoughts on this Xbox game showcase for 2020.
*00:06*
Uh basically medieval Doom.
*00:06*
I use it like OG Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2 where
*00:06*
They seem to be handling it all the right way.
*00:06*
Like, I'm I'm gonna hold them to what they pitched it as, regardless of the development hell and everything.
*00:06*
It's actually so one thing really quick about um
*00:06*
It was pretty fun to try and teach my dad how to play a first-person shooter
*00:06*
Uh so this one stars a female character with some like
*00:06*
And even if you look remotely like it, people will automatically think Soulsborn or um
*00:06*
They weren't caught with their pants down, but they also like
*00:06*
I think they were like, oh, it'll be successful, but I don't think they thought it was yeah, it was gonna be huge.
*00:06*
It was awesome.
*00:06*
Thanks, Jeff.
*00:06*
And another thing you said, which was uh, you know, cheap-ish place to run a studio.
*00:06*
Um I bought Doom Eternal and never it was one of those games I bought and never got to it.
*00:06*
I I just have no
*00:06*
You know, that's a 25-hour game, and then they're talking about this roguelike DLC afterward that has some narrative implications.
*00:06*
And then uh night uh Liberty City.
*00:06*
I think this art style stands out way more than Kenna.
*00:06*
It actually almost makes me wish like the
*00:06*
And I have been hopeful for the initiative itself since it was announced.
*00:06*
The combat was never forward.
*00:06*
Next.
*00:06*
I just think this game is too colorful and it c makes a tonal clash for people watching it.
*00:06*
Now they're not close in quality necessarily, but in cadence, yes.
*00:06*
I understand that that is separate and different and they get to make what they want now, but I just find it really funny.
*00:06*
Let's say one of those games slips and they only have two of those games, I think that's still very solid.
*00:06*
It's Twitter.
*00:06*
So Yeah, I it's when I say a lot has happened uh to Xbox over at Microsoft.
*00:06*
I'm a Marvel boy as well.
*00:06*
It's kind of related now because of Blizzard, but like the you own a phone, right?
*00:06*
And I do think
*00:06*
Um, and he's the primary villain uh of this game, so he's known as the dreadwolf.
*00:06*
And Logan was reviewing it.
*00:06*
Um I tried playing the original Resident Evil and the remake of Resident Evil.
*00:06*
That's fair.
*00:06*
It's Insomniac is cranking out the games.
*00:06*
No, no, no.
*00:06*
It now can match the price of a digital PS5.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
I get why it it's happening, but
*00:06*
That was that that year.
*00:06*
Uh so that also does not make sense.
*00:06*
They're going to push this game out and presumably keep him around afterward.
*00:06*
The parties are always the best parts because you're building these bonds with these characters.
*00:06*
And that's a whole bunch of hoops to jump through because it's not listed publicly on the store.
*00:06*
Um so when it uh we actually saw gameplay, I was even more surprised.
*00:06*
But I even think I believe that I said that I feel like the initiative is would be the next studio on the chopping block.
*00:06*
Um so I was I'm I mean, that's where I was right before
*00:06*
I wish there was more gameplay shown, but the fact that we got twenty twenty five was huge for me.
*00:06*
Which is what you would want
*00:06*
I think during an Xbox event at E3, I think it was.
*00:06*
You know, they're we know exactly what Insomniac is working on for the next decade.
*00:06*
I like I've said before, I like uh fantasy.
*00:06*
So was that the other one coming to PlayStation?
*00:06*
It feels like Sony is like really resting on laurels in a way, like the success of the PS4 and the PS five.
*00:06*
I don't know if I'd consider myself an expert.
*00:06*
Oh, there's Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Hearthstone.
*00:06*
Uh it has to be a flex.
*00:06*
And you know, you don't even mention like the fur cape he's rocking.
*00:06*
Marty O'Donnell, I cannot bel no, he's that's the Halo guy.
*00:06*
Uh this one felt like a like a what is it?
*00:06*
And added in the Child of Light Combat.
*00:06*
Is it like open areas
*00:06*
But it does seem like Microsoft has this
*00:06*
Then we got the game that I truly did not think would show up because I've given up hope after like three years of hoping that it would show up.
*00:06*
So the first two I'll be quick on and then the third one I I want to talk about.
*00:06*
So they wanted to return to a place where
*00:06*
I am shocked that Logan hasn't drugged you to play co-op with him.
*00:06*
But I think this is actually in line with Gears traditional announcements, but
*00:06*
Mm-hmm.
*00:06*
More more things are tying down.
*00:06*
Which was just
*00:06*
Um those are the games you want to get to as many people as possible, right?
*00:06*
It it looks fun, and I think
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
The characters.
*00:06*
Yeah, no, no, it's their prerogative.
*00:06*
Like you said, it's Deus X.
*00:06*
I believe so.
*00:06*
Racing games.
*00:06*
Big head was all.
*00:06*
And I hope maybe we get that in the future with Concord, that it's like, no, this is why this is different.
*00:06*
Oh no I think I think Insomniac is per dollar too based off Spider-Man 2 sales.
*00:06*
Exactly.
*00:06*
And then uh PS5 Pro is
*00:06*
Elsewhere.
*00:06*
I love it.
*00:06*
I finally
*00:06*
But you know, Microsoft has brought over Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush grounded
*00:06*
When you look at it stacked up against everything.
*00:06*
Huh.
*00:06*
Oh, two case cloud chamber studios deep in active development on the next iteration of the series.
*00:06*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:06*
Uh that point five is for some nitpicks we might talk about later on.
*00:06*
I can't wait for this game launching in Game Pass, also coming to PS5, which some people are upset about.
*00:06*
I think they will s almost similar to the way that Sony holds onto their exclusives for a good year or two and then puts them on PC.
*00:06*
At least the last couple have seemed to been like that.
*00:06*
I was like, that's Michael Ironside?
*00:06*
I just wanted to point out this is similar to Starfield in that I didn't get a chance to play Diablo 4 when it released last year.
*00:06*
Arful Escape.
*00:06*
Well, I guess Fragpunk is 2025, but
*00:06*
Uh he was of kinda funny.
*00:06*
I think there's just kind of that tie there.
*00:06*
I think that was cool to see.
*00:06*
That trailer was metal as hell and I appreciate like it wouldn't have bothered me necessarily, but like the the amount of like
*00:06*
And they do want playground games to get their flowers and flex on people and be like
*00:06*
They're probably one of the most famous children's novel series.
*00:06*
It's like Silent Hill 2 with Bloober team.
*00:06*
That is how it goes.
*00:06*
Like I'll Kojima's there, I'll play it.
*00:06*
But it's just obviously a genre and style of game that people have been chasing.
*00:06*
And good ones finally.
*00:06*
And people were like making all these assumptions as the internet does based on the game.
*00:06*
And it uh that's another great example, and that DLC specifically, as far as I understand it, is like
*00:06*
I look I'm searching
*00:06*
Um yeah, I'm excited to see more of Fable is where I'm at
*00:06*
We get a sequel to the original Life is Strange.
*00:06*
I'm not a huge Han Solo guy because of that in the Star Wars universe.
*00:06*
You know what I mean?
*00:06*
I thought it was too.
*00:06*
But they're like, and here's our super expensive Xbox, and put a two terabyte.
*00:06*
If there is one thing that Xbox does well it is create variants of their consoles and controllers.
*00:06*
That that is not like a shade, you know, like ah, how have you not played tactics?
*00:06*
The Outer Worlds was a fine game.
*00:06*
That like just like South of Midnight, that is a game I wasn't expecting, but I'm sure we will see more of it next year.
*00:06*
People really enjoyed the aesthetic of it.
*00:06*
Like, you know, they've they've got all these studios, they're like we have X Wax game studios, we have Bethesda and now Activision, like
*00:06*
Exactly.
*00:06*
He keeps like disappearing and not being at home bases often.
*00:06*
Added a new mission and Yeah.
*00:06*
I at least know what people are working on, but then when we see them I guess is really what I would like to see more.
*00:06*
And they are good stewards of making those types of games.
*00:06*
I have not played the original Silent Hill 2, but just looking at the remake doesn't look great.
*00:06*
Um, but I'm very curious what you think of Perfect.
*00:06*
I'll check.
*00:06*
I've never seen a single Indiana Jones movie.
*00:06*
Smaller scopes.
*00:06*
Right.
*00:06*
But then Sarah Bond shows up.
*00:06*
And you're like, Marcus, what's this?
*00:06*
It's Twitter.
*00:06*
And it's a shame the Arcane Austin got closed because of that.
*00:06*
I think it was more higher up in Microsoft.
*00:06*
This had interesting variety.
*00:06*
What's going on here?
*00:06*
Uh I totally agree with you there.
*00:06*
I would like more tighter
*00:06*
You would be golden.
*00:06*
It's a monkey's paw situation of
*00:06*
And I hope it does that.
*00:06*
And you know, Blizzard always
*00:06*
That's probably
*00:06*
Uh not a fan of that, but the history and mythology of them
*00:06*
Real quick, yeah.
*00:06*
I don't know.
*00:06*
Marcus, Dom, prequel energy, like it was like the boys are back in town kind of energy.
*00:06*
It makes so much sense, right?
*00:06*
Um, really unfortunate.
*00:06*
Um I I think Toys for Bob is a very underappreciated studio for what they've accomplished, and it's a shame that they became a
*00:06*
I like the all of that.
*00:06*
You know what I mean?
*00:06*
Lay it on me, dude.
*00:06*
Um but yeah, you are correct.
*00:06*
So I think that's one thing where people miss out on the viability of Game Pass of like, well these games just go in there, how do they make any money?
*00:06*
Um, but clearly Kojima's ambitions of working with Holly w Holly Hollywood actors
*00:06*
Um to your point, the humor, everything, it's as close to Fable as you would want from a new studio making it
*00:06*
I do not.
*00:06*
We uh there were a couple other show or games, Adam Fall, Assassin's Creed Shadow, Stalker 2.
*00:06*
So anyway, all that to say Call of Duty is Call of Duty.
*00:06*
They did a, in my opinion, the best Fallout game, which is New Vegas.
*00:06*
I was enjoying it, but I'm like.
*00:06*
Is there I wanted to check you talking about this?
*00:07*
Which I think
*00:07*
And now it sets an expectation where Call of Duty games just need to come.
*00:07*
Um it was a shoe-in and in the bag for State of the K three to show up.
*00:07*
And the the one thing I want to point out real quick
*00:07*
Exactly
*00:07*
That is fair.
*00:07*
I hope mixtape is incredible and I'm gonna support it because I want to see more unique stuff like that.
*00:07*
Um so yeah, Life is Strange on the Stage, not as surprising.
*00:07*
So maybe by the time Avoud comes out, maybe that's why we didn't get a date because maybe they're trying to up the visual fidelity and performance and stuff.
*00:07*
For that experience for sure.
*00:07*
I hope that game doesn't exist anymore.
*00:07*
Elsewhere entertainment.
*00:07*
Um definitely wasn't perfect, but I do think
*00:07*
Um but I'm at the point now with this where I was with uh
*00:07*
I mean even the creature design we said giant crocodile uh
*00:07*
I guess it's more of a reboot at this point.
*00:07*
Remember that John Wick Bob Odenkirk movie?
*00:07*
So good for him, but
*00:07*
No, here it is.
*00:07*
Sure.
*00:07*
And then Xbox does that one more thing.
*00:07*
So I do want to play it and I think in the back of my mind I'm I'm
*00:07*
Uh so that'll be interesting.
*00:07*
I want them to be working on Spiral 4.
*00:07*
Shout out ESA.
*00:07*
Um, it also is always concerning when
*00:07*
But it is also very weird when these things pass with no red flags or checks.
*00:07*
Is it Shinji Makami?
*00:07*
And it's not even from, like I said, Hi-Fi Rush was a great game.
*00:07*
Yes.
*00:07*
But could it be that it is this weird multiplayer games of service thing that they're chasing, you know?
*00:07*
Like I said, 9.
*00:07*
It didn't have quite the things that I expected, but that wasn't that's not like a knock at it.
*00:07*
Like Xbox did one for four games this week.
*00:07*
It reminded me of that visually, which I don't know why that popped in my head, but I was just like
*00:07*
The rest of it
*00:07*
It reminded me a lot of um
*00:07*
I don't know, it's something in my brain.
*00:07*
But uh I did find it a little funny that the PlayStation 5 version was not mentioned or like
*00:07*
Yeah, it's uh it's a good time
*00:07*
So it was a treat.
*00:07*
Um, I just really could imagine a world where they just decided that this was too expensive to
*00:07*
And this is what I want to play on my Xbox, and this is what I want to see from Xbox.
*00:07*
Surprised that it's coming out this year.
*00:07*
He likes lost his damn mind.
*00:07*
Yeah, I'm not saying you're hating.
*00:07*
There's no way this game doesn't support 60 and
*00:07*
Uh Contraband.
*00:07*
Um clearly, again.
*00:07*
We didn't talk about it or wow.
*00:07*
You can check that out.
*00:07*
Adios
*00:07*
It's just the way it is.
*00:07*
So crossby is awesome.
*00:07*
Very odd.
*00:07*
The mech, man, the mech is incredible.
*00:07*
Um, I wish I had an article to point you to to uh check it out, but
*00:07*
I was thinking of Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade where the DLC is not included
*00:07*
So uh I think this game looks cool and I have my eyes on it, especially now that there's gameplay instead of just like a mood piece
*00:07*
But
*00:07*
So I guess they can do whatever they
*00:07*
Age of Empires didn't interest me that much.
*00:07*
Um and Sam Fisher is one of them.
*00:07*
That immediately to me is like
*00:07*
So long story short, I just hope that Red Wall thing finally comes to fruition.
*00:07*
Sure.
*00:07*
And I did I did have that kind of opinion with the key art, which is the skeleton wielding a sword, and it's
*00:07*
So these are easy.
*00:07*
I think rumors were saying next week or something.
*00:07*
It's not Jeff's fault.
*00:07*
I love it.
*00:07*
I was gonna say I think that's what The Last of Us Online, like I think that's what happened.
*00:07*
Um and I just have to say
*00:07*
No DLC has ever come to Game Pass for games.
*00:07*
Everyone's just gonna call this game Expedition Thirty.
*00:07*
Like what is it?
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
The the after-show 30-minute walkthrough.
*00:07*
Uh Artful Escape is on my to-play list.
*00:07*
I have not played a Life is Strange game.
*00:07*
They just want to maximize
*00:07*
One of the only good parts outside of Outlaws.
*00:07*
So you can uh
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
He ended up starting a new studio.
*00:07*
I recall Inquisition, I think, looking more like uh
*00:07*
I wonder like it are the Forza game, the Forza Horizon ones with their DLC.
*00:07*
Uh so w what do you think of that?
*00:07*
It seems like this one had Loki, which I don't remember from the original, but that just might be me being a kid and not.
*00:07*
One thing I learned too in terms of their animation, they don't do mocap, they do hand animation.
*00:07*
Obviously different people working there and all that, but it's just it's wild to me the way games evolve and
*00:07*
Um, unfortunately, that whole story that came out.
*00:07*
Um, because of his track record.
*00:07*
Yeah, Brotherhood is
*00:07*
But I have to be honest, I cannot tell them apart because it seems like they all star some sort of anthropomorphic monkey
*00:07*
They're they're the grounded team.
*00:07*
There is 33 Immortals.
*00:07*
It's one of those weird things.
*00:07*
And I just wanted to I've been thinking about you and I wanted to have you back on the show.
*00:07*
Elsewhere entertainment.
*00:07*
I feel that could be really good if done right
*00:07*
Um But with all of that, I mean it's been a
*00:07*
And so Michael and I played with him to help him review the game.
*00:07*
So like you said, it's like the game of the year edition.
*00:07*
Everyone has those franchises.
*00:07*
You know, I'm
*00:07*
I did not
*00:07*
This was I have a hot take.
*00:07*
This is a big gap in my Xbox catalog.
*00:07*
I Spyro and Crash are huge to my childhood.
*00:07*
From a business perspective, I mean it makes a lot of sense.
*00:07*
Like the order of those just didn't feel right.
*00:07*
I thought this was one of their best showcases.
*00:07*
This looks awful.
*00:07*
I was like, oh, it's just literally I can point character to character.
*00:07*
It was more Best Iron Man mechanics in a video game.
*00:07*
Yeah, and then we get the gameplay demo, and you see that not only are the cutscenes, but the game is like animated on twos.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
So you can play them in whatever order you want.
*00:07*
It reminded me of of Crisis a little bit too in terms of the UI and stuff.
*00:07*
So I played the original trilogy.
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
Um, kind of like your concerns with MGS Delta, right, being remade.
*00:07*
Those are the only two studios in the world, in my opinion, that deliver as quickly and as high quality as those two do.
*00:07*
Unfortunate.
*00:07*
Um and you know, he dragged me through those games.
*00:07*
But I was I was curious about that.
*00:07*
You had mentioned a couple of things, no dates, which we've talked about, no silks on, no one's getting silks on.
*00:07*
So
*00:07*
Um, Activision
*00:07*
Could have been one of those weird things too, unfortunately.
*00:07*
Like we haven't seen anything about that.
*00:07*
Like you look at the gameplay and it's a Bioshock clone.
*00:07*
And unfortunately the last several years
*00:07*
Awesome.
*00:07*
Shout out Ben Starr uh from Final Fantasy VII.
*00:07*
I think like if I had Game Pass like this like you said.
*00:07*
This way this is a this is a
*00:07*
Um gosh, why am I blanking on the name of that?
*00:07*
So you're talking about Black Myth Wukong.
*00:07*
So with these three studios specifically, Alpha Dog is more of a support studio.
*00:07*
And from games that are supposed to be coming out this year.
*00:07*
I love the Yeah, exactly.
*00:07*
Like it's revealed next year's gameplay and then it could come out a year later.
*00:07*
I'm I'm happy
*00:07*
That's all I wanted to say, really.
*00:07*
But launch it on console too, which is huge for Civ.
*00:07*
But the fact that it did show up
*00:07*
Actually he was in gosh, what movie was he in?
*00:07*
Cause they're just so well designed, the worlds are beautiful, they just there's something about them.
*00:07*
Thank you very much, Jared.
*00:07*
Look at Naughty Dog.
*00:07*
Skull and bones is the exact opposite of what I want.
*00:07*
See, I see, I'm telling you, I'm a terrible, I'm so confused.
*00:07*
I digress.
*00:07*
Do you play Gears Tactics?
*00:07*
It is that that is it feels like that's the curse of
*00:07*
So real quick, this is a game that a lot of people didn't think was gonna be here.
*00:07*
With Starfield, on the other hand, I haven't played much of the game.
*00:07*
Uh and so I haven't touched it, right?
*00:07*
So
*00:07*
This is another age of insert type game here, remake.
*00:07*
And yeah, it was I loved the gameplay of this because it was so different than a lot of the other
*00:07*
Uh Winterboro, some mouse-looking game.
*00:07*
Netflix is adapting all the things.
*00:07*
Like
*00:07*
I don't know if they even know.
*00:07*
This was
*00:07*
Um they're just
*00:07*
They should be working on uh New Vegas 2 or whatever it is in the Fallout universe
*00:07*
Yeah, they left they left Activision to stop being a Call of Duty support studio
*00:07*
Elsewhere.
*00:07*
Um obviously there's so much more minutia you can get into there, but yeah that's kind of it's kind of a weird feeling there.
*00:07*
But they announced a new studio, which
*00:07*
Yes, very good ones.
*00:07*
Yes
*00:07*
They will have zero problems getting their Call of Duty message out to the people that want to know.
*00:07*
But that's just my logical thinking of why I would go here based on my own personal tastes and
*00:07*
Obviously, they're all ads.
*00:07*
You want to hear something crazy real quick in terms of like cadence of release?
*00:07*
So Skull and Bones people.
*00:07*
But the more interesting thing is it says rooted in traditional Eastern culture, which it was evident.
*00:07*
Um Elder Scrolls or even
*00:07*
More Call of Duty.
*00:07*
Tail Gameworks is the one that actually makes the least amount of sense to me.
*00:08*
And I really actually have
*00:08*
Those are your other two big fall releases.
*00:08*
It had to be the one.
*00:08*
I don't remember his name, but he's the one that's always public facing.
*00:08*
Uh
*00:08*
But we see South of Midnight from Compulsion, correct?
*00:08*
It's
*00:08*
Right.
*00:08*
Well, and 'cause they're closer tied to PC right than Nintendo or PlayStation, that that's a an avenue they can focus on.
*00:08*
And I love the horizon games.
*00:08*
And then I think also a new Series S.
*00:08*
And
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
So thank you so much.
*00:08*
I do know a little bit about Xbox, but uh thank you.
*00:08*
5 out of 10.
*00:08*
Because they were in development on Stated K2 when they got acquired.
*00:08*
Okay, because that is one I definitely gave up hope of seeing and then was just
*00:08*
I've
*00:08*
I was like
*00:08*
Eventually that will be made.
*00:08*
Correct, yeah.
*00:08*
Yeah, camp of Amped.
*00:08*
They can absolutely do that.
*00:08*
And
*00:08*
But cool.
*00:08*
I'm not, but Insomniac also.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
So it was nice for them to not have to change it or remove it or anything.
*00:08*
I'm like, don't forget Pop.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
It didn't happen.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Obviously, I hope they do cool stuff and the combat's fun and engaging.
*00:08*
We've got all these teams.
*00:08*
We've kind of we've built out all the things that they revealed and we've we've highlighted the things that we specifically want to touch on at some point in uh
*00:08*
Um but we'll see.
*00:08*
Um that was my thought process.
*00:08*
I'm the same way.
*00:08*
I'm gonna I feel fine paying
*00:08*
So it's
*00:08*
So what how are you feeling?
*00:08*
So do I play MGS1 first?
*00:08*
He's still alive.
*00:08*
I'm just saying it seems like there's a lot of hate for him online, which
*00:08*
I'm not sure, kind of like they did with
*00:08*
I um on the Xbox wire.
*00:08*
Cool.
*00:08*
Liberty City?
*00:08*
I'm curious to see if that holds any gameplay value of what that provides.
*00:08*
Yeah, get out of here.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
The voice is familiar.
*00:08*
You've seen cinematic stuff, you've seen partial gameplay stuff.
*00:08*
And this is the game this is definitely a game you would want that deep dive in.
*00:08*
Like I love it so much.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
We are working on seasons seven and eight right now.
*00:08*
I I really actually that that resonates with me.
*00:08*
It just makes
*00:08*
Everyone's been wondering where uh not sorry, those are two are so different.
*00:08*
Um and I know it's easy to I mean Doom itself looks great.
*00:08*
Um obviously it's not the I I would love to see like actual, actual gameplay, but that was
*00:08*
Game of the show for me.
*00:08*
I love bioware.
*00:08*
The Starfield DLC, which was already previously announced, they talked about that, gave it a date.
*00:08*
And then you see the combat and you're like, oh, it's turn-based.
*00:08*
Like it's not a new thing for Metal Gear to be on Xbox.
*00:08*
I have those games too where I try to sell them to people and they are not getting it.
*00:08*
I don't know if that would be possible if it wasn't designed, but
*00:08*
Like when we see her walking through the city.
*00:08*
He was um working on a mouse guard adaptation that was like
*00:08*
But um That's so cool, actually.
*00:08*
It was a six or a seven.
*00:08*
But
*00:08*
That's an I forgot about that game actually.
*00:08*
I can't, I can't I can never uncall it Twitter.
*00:08*
That they didn't seem to they kind of got lost in the shuffle, it sounds like in uh
*00:08*
Anyway, I digress.
*00:08*
I just wanted to point out the the artistic change.
*00:08*
And to me, that's like a dope combination.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
And
*00:08*
And I know that sounds odd because
*00:08*
Like
*00:08*
Like I just want to see that awesome showcase from PlayStation where both sides, if you
*00:08*
No, I haven't heard that.
*00:08*
Obviously it looks way more beautiful.
*00:08*
To me, it's like, you know, you go back and look at the first Jack and Daxter game, then you go and look at Last of Us part two.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
I
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Like
*00:08*
Yeah, that's scary.
*00:08*
Like it's been this long of a process for them to kind of finalize this purchase of Activision Blizzard.
*00:08*
He left.
*00:08*
But then it's able to add in these stuff that make it more wacky.
*00:08*
He's never the public facing guy though, right?
*00:08*
Honestly, it looks like if
*00:08*
Like it's got some activity.
*00:08*
It's like ah
*00:08*
It's all
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Not to say that Phil Spencer didn't play a part.
*00:08*
Everyone's chasing that Fortnite bag, and unfortunately, you're not going to
*00:08*
Yeah, it's just one of those studios and decisions that like
*00:08*
Whenever.
*00:08*
Sold.
*00:08*
I'm like, it's a character introductory trailer.
*00:08*
It would be great.
*00:08*
So what's up with age of mythology?
*00:08*
So at the top of the show there was, you know, the the typical viewer discretion advise type warning.
*00:08*
Like I like you know I don't have to actually coming into this game never that are our age I should
*00:08*
And I'm all for new visual styles and trying it, but it
*00:08*
And then all of a sudden we find out that it is a prequel, a co-op prequel.
*00:08*
OD though.
*00:08*
Oh my gosh.
*00:08*
And then obviously all the stuff that followed happened.
*00:08*
You know
*00:08*
And if it wasn't almost everything else except for maybe a couple of games.
*00:08*
So I just wanted to
*00:08*
So it's
*00:08*
Um I wonder if the comments about the puzzles is misconstrued in that
*00:08*
I'm so sorry.
*00:08*
Was that another one cross-platform?
*00:08*
Nope.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
That's an indie game that they partnered with, but Expedition 33.
*00:08*
net and my other show, Chapter Select, which I do with Logan Moore.
*00:08*
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
*00:08*
So it could be in part tied to the game in a sense of like wanting some
*00:08*
I couldn't even process it if
*00:08*
He is 74 years old though.
*00:08*
But that is so cool.
*00:08*
It didn't uh make the show worse, but yeah, it was weird not to see it.
*00:08*
And I'm sure a lot of that was just a really rushed and cramped development cycle and all the other problems that
*00:08*
Anyways, with Tango Gameworks, they've talked about so much establishing a foothold in Japan to some extent.
*00:08*
New studios interesting, but it just it feels
*00:08*
I think just sticking to Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
*00:08*
So there's
*00:08*
Um like there's cool ideas I feel like could have
*00:08*
And I wasn't expecting the Deus Ex vibe.
*00:08*
That was a huge shocker.
*00:08*
It did feel a little bit like
*00:08*
There was the whole um
*00:08*
And like
*00:08*
Thank you so much, Jared, for joining me and talking about this stuff.
*00:08*
Like I just don't get it, right?
*00:09*
Like I think the scene just went on a bit too much.
*00:09*
Of just co-op games to rip roar through together.
*00:09*
I love it.
*00:09*
Uh Jeff Strand, right, is his name?
*00:09*
But anyway.
*00:09*
Just a nostalgia play for me.
*00:09*
But it was a rather intense trailer.
*00:09*
It's basically like children's Lord of the Rings with animals, right?
*00:09*
It's like
*00:09*
I did think the Omni movement seemed particularly interesting
*00:09*
What?
*00:09*
I'm gonna call him the Xbox Expert.
*00:09*
But it's being set up in Poland and then working on some new IP.
*00:09*
The resale market.
*00:09*
It had this really cool
*00:09*
So
*00:09*
Um this is definitely I think a cooler looking game
*00:09*
But I just found it really funny that it just came to PS5.
*00:09*
There was also a weird thing with this, there was a date for it in the Xbox blog post, and then it got removed.
*00:09*
I'll get it one day.
*00:09*
I think I think game div studios in general are are like that more like
*00:09*
Uh
*00:09*
And yeah, the future is bright, and we'll talk about all the stuff we saw here pretty shortly.
*00:09*
I'm, you know, nine.
*00:09*
Like I don't care that it's coming to PS5, man.
*00:09*
And it was one of those games where I touched when it launched and then something else came up and I wasn't able to continue playing it.
*00:09*
It is awkward, yeah.
*00:09*
I forget the name of the studio that does these, the first party studio for Xbox.
*00:09*
Um did you play pop?
*00:09*
I have not played
*00:09*
Um into the
*00:09*
I don't have the exact quote, but it's along those lines of like
*00:09*
Like
*00:09*
I uh
*00:09*
And uh
*00:09*
I hope the next match effect is incredible.
*00:09*
Or no uh
*00:09*
I was more of like a Civ person.
*00:09*
Like what's your what's your the read on the pulse here with Fable?
*00:09*
They just like put plastic over the disk drive.
*00:09*
You know, he's also apparently working on an action stealth espionage.
*00:09*
So
*00:09*
I mean you go all the way back to Don Matrick and the TV TV
*00:09*
The Diablo stuff.
*00:09*
What were you how did you feel about Doom?
*00:09*
You know, Doom has really cool guns.
*00:09*
That it was very it was very quick.
*00:09*
Cool concept.
*00:09*
Love them.
*00:09*
And this was like the third and final one that I was like, this is where we're gonna get like a gameplay demo.
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
But yeah, it's as an Xbox fan it's awesome.
*00:09*
But
*00:09*
Did that thing say if it was live action or not?
*00:09*
It had a very cool variety.
*00:09*
You're like, oh that's weird.
*00:09*
And DLC is always much easier for me for a game that I haven't played yet as opposed to
*00:09*
Sure, yeah, that was surprising.
*00:09*
He's also in uh the next karate kid.
*00:09*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:09*
South of Midnight, and I said it was tied with one other game, it's mixtape.
*00:09*
It sounds cool.
*00:09*
It's like it's just off enough, and you can tell.
*00:09*
Yeah, give it to me.
*00:09*
Look at like God of War Ragnarok.
*00:09*
It's very dependent.
*00:09*
I never got around to it, but I was very much interested in that.
*00:09*
Super scary.
*00:09*
So how are you feeling about the shutdown of these teams?
*00:09*
From uh the The Capcom fame.
*00:09*
So people shouldn't be worried that Call of Duty's gonna be the the end all be all direct for these things.
*00:09*
Game okay.
*00:09*
And oh well, I guess
*00:09*
I even speculated a
*00:09*
Um gosh, what a
*00:09*
I just I've I love being the guy that
*00:09*
Um just from a div dev cycle and delaying things and then
*00:09*
Live action
*00:09*
Incredible stuff.
*00:09*
It it would
*00:09*
You know, three, four, and five are the ones that I've
*00:09*
So
*00:09*
It's kind of like this series that
*00:09*
But you are absolutely right.
*00:09*
Oh, whoa!
*00:09*
O.
*00:09*
This is all just this is all just in my own thoughts of like
*00:09*
And with these, you have to kind of cater to the widest audience.
*00:09*
They even said during that event, I think uh
*00:09*
Doom Doom always made sense though because the
*00:09*
It's not just limited to one or two games.
*00:09*
I do remember
*00:09*
Like come on now.
*00:09*
Sure it was a Guardians clone, but it had personality.
*00:09*
Couldn't care less about cars.
*00:09*
Shadow Drop.
*00:09*
He's not the head of machine games.
*00:09*
Now that was a really throwback feel of
*00:10*
But
*00:10*
Uh there's the like pure business perspective.
*00:10*
There's so many this blade, that blade, you know what I mean?
*00:10*
Once again, like I said with the Bioware stuff, it's a shame you never played the original three.
*00:10*
Yeah, that sounded cool.
*00:10*
Oh boy.
*00:10*
Granted it is established, but Perfect Dark hasn't happened had a
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
And I won't touch it until
*00:10*
Growing up, uh I didn't have a home computer, but when I'd go to family members' houses
*00:10*
And I was like, that's Michael Ironside.
*00:10*
And if a team can nail that humor
*00:10*
It was fine.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
I feel truly honored every time I do an episode of these, and I I mean that genuinely.
*00:10*
Yeah, like Hearthstone.
*00:10*
I'm excited about this one.
*00:10*
Nobody?
*00:10*
I'm not saying he
*00:10*
Um with Elsewhere Entertainment, I'm not excited at all
*00:10*
Like
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
So we saw
*00:10*
I'm blanking on their name, but they
*00:10*
Yeah, Russia.
*00:10*
It's not canceled like MouseCard.
*00:10*
But just like
*00:10*
Yeah, Skull and Bones is not the thing I want.
*00:10*
But anyway.
*00:10*
So that they
*00:10*
What is he doing?
*00:10*
And then this got announced.
*00:10*
World's Edge.
*00:10*
Yes, that is cut that was going cross-platform, yeah.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
I'm I'm I have wanted to play them.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Why?
*00:10*
Yeah, they just boom shot up because of the TV show.
*00:10*
It's funny, like it's medieval with the largest air quotes you've ever seen
*00:10*
I really want to
*00:10*
Obviously, not everything was
*00:10*
He's incredible.
*00:10*
So they make sure that he's not the one out there doing
*00:10*
Just not my vibe.
*00:10*
But I could have sworn there was a monkey game.
*00:10*
And
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Because they always have what's his name, the other dude.
*00:10*
A Metal Gear Solid one remake.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Oh my gosh.
*00:10*
Um the trailer is in 4K.
*00:10*
We know that the Outer Worlds 2 is in production.
*00:10*
Also Distinct.
*00:10*
That big dude is Drax.
*00:10*
I'll tell you that.
*00:10*
It's a little weird.
*00:10*
It's it's uh mythology, of course.
*00:10*
This was another one that was like, uh, we'll get the gameplay demo this time.
*00:10*
I I d I have to admit, I checked out for Winterboro.
*00:10*
So I guess you
*00:10*
It doesn't matter.
*00:10*
I was looking something up because I was curious.
*00:10*
That that gun in particular reminded me of Insomniac
*00:10*
And then you see the counters and all that and you're like, oh, there's active elements to it.
*00:10*
It's like
*00:10*
And the fact that I am of the belief this is their big demo game next year, I'm
*00:10*
Have you played them before?
*00:10*
It's not the
*00:10*
I'm interested.
*00:10*
And and based off what Phil said and
*00:10*
So I'm really excited to talk about all this stuff today.
*00:10*
And when I look at it, I think of it as
*00:10*
I so it was originally announced as Dragon Age
*00:10*
Nobody, yeah, I think he's in that
*00:10*
No problem.
*00:10*
Okay.
*00:10*
I I just remembered it the other day myself.
*00:10*
Like this showcase
*00:10*
So it's interesting.
*00:10*
My brain goes to you.
*00:11*
Just
*00:11*
Anyway, uh but Marty, the guy over at it
*00:11*
So to your point,
*00:11*
Let's walk you through us flexing.
*00:11*
I I say dragged very nicely when we did it for chapter selecting a
*00:11*
Um
*00:11*
Like, it's not like they're
*00:11*
They want it being
*00:11*
Which is so it's like one of those things where like
*00:11*
I don't know what's real anymore
*00:11*
You know what I mean?
*00:11*
It feels like a Spider-Man scenario with Insomniac it's like
*00:11*
Oh no, absolutely.
*00:11*
Bioshock is getting
*00:11*
I I can't remember his last name.
*00:11*
It's a whole m
*00:11*
Made by deck nine.
*00:11*
Because he's the Fallout.
*00:11*
Anyways.
*00:11*
You barely saw it.
*00:11*
It is true to Dragon Age, but it is
*00:11*
Yeah, the known quantities.
*00:11*
I want to make sure I got that.
*00:11*
I will go back and watch that.
*00:11*
Or it just said Netflix and Bioshock partnership?
*00:11*
Sure.
*00:11*
I was
*00:11*
Like that feels like a good three-year cadence of just
*00:11*
Sure, sure I guess yeah that's valid
*00:11*
I don't know why people are sold.
*00:11*
I need to look into that.
*00:11*
I would
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
And I think that's been a tough thing for people
*00:11*
Uh what a dumb, dumb rebrand.
*00:11*
All of these
*00:11*
Gone are the days of
*00:11*
He's not
*00:11*
I just looked up this trailer.
*00:11*
And I don't want that to reflect poorly on the game.
*00:11*
But then the Metal Gear Solid uh
*00:11*
But yeah, Metal Gear Solid 3 is
*00:11*
Did you play Gears of War pop?
*00:11*
Making me sound very uh
*00:11*
The one thing that I was
*00:11*
No.
*00:11*
It's like
*00:11*
Uh but we do move on to
*00:11*
Like
*00:11*
Like and I totally get that perspective.
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
Uh left behind.
*00:11*
This is true.
*00:11*
It
*00:11*
Resident Evil 4, 1, all the stuff.
*00:12*
Right.
*00:12*
I like I felt good about it.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
I think that
*00:12*
I certainly hope so.
*00:12*
They had to make sure to show
*00:12*
He was like the mean gym coach or something.
*00:12*
Stalker 2 actually got a date
*00:12*
As a games industry person it's
*00:12*
I'm not I
*00:12*
So I'm like, well, if
*00:12*
Because it it
*00:12*
And then you know you got Nintendo out here.
*00:12*
Um they're very excited.
*00:12*
That's an interesting question.
*00:12*
I want to see them try this.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
And
*00:12*
It's called World Something.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
I want to watch that and um
*00:12*
If you're somebody
*00:12*
They get me to play those games every time they come out.
*00:12*
There's the um
*00:12*
And I appreciate I admire that.
*00:12*
Yeah, I
*00:12*
I
*00:12*
I'm curious though.
*00:12*
I would imagine.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
Yeah and uh
*00:13*
Again
*00:13*
And both games have been
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
Strang, strand.
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
I haven't thought about that.
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
Thanks.
*00:13*
It's just like a mental
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
Uh I don't
*00:13*
They're just like coast
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
So
*00:13*
They have talent
*00:13*
It's like
*00:13*
And so
*00:13*
Like
*00:14*
Yeah.
*00:14*
Uh
*00:14*
Like
*00:14*
So
*00:14*
