Hello everybody and welcome to the Max Frequency Podcast.
*00:00*
and it's still sitting there.
*00:00*
Um, I thought about putting that one on here, but at the end of the day it really is.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
I was still consulting a guide, but I also like remembered where all the little treasures were hidden to some degree.
*00:00*
They're like, oh, Bioshock is just my favorite game.
*00:00*
I don't feel like that.
*00:00*
So it's been fun.
*00:00*
you know, chunks of that.
*00:00*
It like so many people saying like, Oh man, I really want to see Jin again.
*00:00*
things like that.
*00:00*
The game's so pretty.
*00:00*
It's this coming week actually, the Until Dawn remake remastered.
*00:00*
series and I think there's one more after that.
*00:00*
You know.
*00:00*
France.
*00:00*
That was like that.
*00:00*
We gotta have Swamp 2 at some point.
*00:00*
Yeah, you still have to do it.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Right.
*00:00*
sorts of things.
*00:00*
'Cause it's also I have a Wii Wear for There's a Wii Wear releases, there's mobile releases, there's DS, 3DS, Game Boy Advance.
*00:00*
I think it's two.
*00:00*
And then there was the build up towards five.
*00:00*
Which is a bummer.
*00:00*
from from software.
*00:00*
And said, like, you must play this.
*00:00*
Not not dislike it, but you you said before, or even in this episode, like, oh, some of Rag Ragnarok took away from how I felt about God of War.
*00:00*
And the systems, one that's deeply intricate and does all the stuff I love.
*00:00*
Legacy.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Speaking Japanese, talking to Kojima in these videos and stuff that they're doing.
*00:00*
And I would not be shocked if th a lot of that stemmed from Holst as well.
*00:00*
2026.
*00:00*
extensive we don't even get into it here but I don't know my so I I still you know I'm on the Sony pony I'm saddled up but I'm not riding with such fervor into the sunset ready to go but
*00:00*
footage online.
*00:00*
To me.
*00:00*
Just uh more.
*00:00*
Um in a in a roundabout way.
*00:00*
Um a show I watched on Netflix, Blue Eye Samurai, superb, very similar energy to what this plot sounds like.
*00:00*
The PSVR2 launch title was a Horizon game.
*00:00*
Uh I saying pro now means two things.
*00:00*
or something.
*00:00*
It's congruent with like, let's give Ben a sequel.
*00:00*
Like it's yeah directly continuing that story in some major key ways.
*00:00*
Between the legs dunk is what they need.
*00:00*
Finally come in and give this a shot with real good controllers and tracking.
*00:00*
against it.
*00:00*
Um, I don't know anything about them as well, but I've heard enough people praise them over the years that I'm interested.
*00:00*
you do that as well.
*00:00*
And no one really wanted this like if you were buying a pro, you wanted the bundle, not obviously the the regular PS5.
*00:00*
I know why they did it because they wanted to get that sweet, sweet money there, and they knew that they could do it.
*00:00*
And my resolutions.
*00:00*
I do not have a portal yet.
*00:00*
Um a little interesting there that there's a gap, a wait for that.
*00:00*
Generation from the earbuds.
*00:00*
You did this with the PS4 Pro and a 4K TV and God of War.
*00:00*
of something like this yet, because I feel like they're still not even fully taking advantage of the PS5 in some ways.
*00:00*
I I I want it just because I I like to have the newest thing, the hottest thing.
*00:00*
Um does have me.
*00:00*
No, like I saw the other day that uh what Resident Evil Village is going to be at 120 FPS on this, which is really cool.
*00:00*
not even have that in it.
*00:00*
Um so I have a TV that can do that, so yeah, I'm I'm excited in that regard.
*00:00*
because of TGS and things like that and some m North American press also got their hands on it.
*00:00*
But instead of obviously tweaking all the PC settings, you just pick from a menu of four to six options.
*00:00*
and maybe just react to that a little bit.
*00:00*
Specifically.
*00:00*
can slot games in on a list like this.
*00:00*
What do you have more fondness for?
*00:00*
And I don't think this is a bad thing whatsoever, but they're games that I played and then I said, that's one of my favorite games ever.
*00:00*
But I tried not to double up.
*00:00*
order but you actually did your homework correctly.
*00:00*
group.
*00:00*
We want.
*00:00*
You're crouching, you're dodging, you're you're running around, the way the AI communicates, it's all there.
*00:00*
Far more than Kotor.
*00:00*
uh have a roundabout discussion with things.
*00:00*
into an action rom.
*00:00*
Um I said that I wanted a physical copy of Alan Wake 2 and I want to support that now that they're doing it.
*00:00*
And it's really just what a studio of I don't know how many people Rockstar has working at it.
*00:00*
game so it's not like I've never touched it um but I haven't seen it through and it is the one game that I want to see through um
*00:00*
They could have pushed out some improvements for the original Red Dead and the GTA trilogy, but they didn't for some reason.
*00:00*
where it is you're going to this one specific level to get this one specific star this time around and you can't get anything else.
*00:00*
Um and it's a series that is getting a lot of love right now from Capcom.
*00:00*
And these games are full of murder mysteries.
*00:00*
Yeah, I've seen it a couple of times.
*00:00*
Sh Sherlock Holmes no Herlock Scholmes.
*00:00*
off type of thing.
*00:00*
Um and I love me some some got it and the coffee.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
Probably dabbled with Golden.
*00:00*
Um, Strikers was actually quite good.
*00:00*
But yeah, I I love this game.
*00:00*
You defeat the final boss, that's it.
*00:00*
You know, the process and the structure.
*00:00*
God no.
*00:00*
Are you gonna say the remastered version is your favorite?
*00:00*
Remake the original Mill Gear Solid, which will be a far larger undertaking, but like I could see them doing that next.
*00:00*
Now.
*00:00*
First release this prologue thing and then you can play that and it's the opening of the game and then the rest of the game will come out eighteen months from now and it's like Kojima, what are you doing?
*00:00*
anymore.
*00:00*
Okay, we're so in.
*00:00*
The Kojima twins right there.
*00:00*
I I hope he does.
*00:00*
Very badly.
*00:00*
Um, best from software boss design ever, best boss battles in any of their games, which is really sane a lot, because that's why you play from software games.
*00:00*
lot of exploration you can do.
*00:00*
You know, go.
*00:00*
There's a lot of shit.
*00:00*
The name of the video was Joining the Outer Wilds Club.
*00:00*
But I wanna interest I think I want to play on my TV.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
Funny.
*00:00*
out of the gate.
*00:00*
Jillion, million dollar sellers.
*00:00*
Yeah, I think if you was not the best guy.
*00:00*
how it's be used in puzzles and things like that and freeze this and throw this over there to hit this and it it just it's it's perfect.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
This time.
*00:00*
there.
*00:00*
Please give us Judas.
*00:00*
Um, switch two will launch next year.
*00:00*
And Whitney Scene, probably the best series of League of Legends that has ever been played in history.
*00:00*
Necessarily.
*00:00*
has one in mind and they're now working towards that.
*00:00*
We'll see if your big shoe goes I heard he wanted to retire and wrap it up before he did retire, so the the two would coincide, I suppose.
*00:00*
And he watches uh YouTube lore compilation videos of the series to remind himself of what he wrote in previous games.
*00:00*
We just gotta get through Echoes and then uh it's Hunters, which is a shorter game, and then Corruption, which
*00:00*
stuff so anyway go check out Logan's work over at comicbook.
*00:00*
So we went back to the NES and and worked our way up to modern times, which at that point would have been PS4, Xbox One.
*00:00*
Uh we have PS5 Pros, Xbox Series X's, Steam Decks, Switches, Switch OLEDs.
*00:00*
Basically, I guess we do this every Nintendo generation cycle, like right before the next console.
*00:00*
It has been a very good run, but I I don't know why I was under the assumption that like I mean nearly a third of our lives have passed since we last did this.
*00:00*
That's not to say that they haven't, but like the frequency of single player exclusives has obviously dropped off, um, partially just because games take so long to make now, which is less of a PlayStation problem and more just like a
*00:00*
Andrew House that I think understood kind of everything about.
*00:00*
the past ten or fifteen years in my eyes, 'cause I feel like he understood all aspects of not only the business, but also what fans want.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
He's probably too pro developer in some sense when he needs to be more of like, I'm the boss and we need to get things done and
*00:00*
into this trillion dollar company that it is today and is quite successful.
*00:00*
Sony owns the single-player storied narrative-driven video game market fairly well.
*00:00*
How does this change Sony's planning and trajectory moving forward?
*00:00*
Is Firewalk gonna close or stay open?
*00:00*
No.
*00:00*
So there's that.
*00:00*
Uh which will be exciting eventually.
*00:00*
reasons is that I feel like there's more there's still more games than ever before.
*00:00*
I'm still struggling with killing people silently, and I'm a samurai, and blah blah blah.
*00:00*
So I'm I'm thrilled.
*00:00*
I I wrote something the other day about just how I hope they try to push the genre forward more with this game rather than just being like.
*00:00*
Let's create a really high quality version of s what everybody else is doing in this space.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
um the metacritic like average score for it for users, which I know doesn't matter at all.
*00:00*
Sucker Punch absolutely delivered that.
*00:00*
called is that what they're called divine beast divine beast divine beast there's four divine beasts out there go find them you can that's it that's the goal have fun like I hope it's that sort of thing right
*00:00*
Uh what is that show that just won a bunch of Emmys?
*00:00*
I'm all for that type of stuff in media, and clearly other people are as well.
*00:00*
Maybe.
*00:00*
To make remasters and to port things to PC.
*00:00*
Like there that's there it is.
*00:00*
Which I know you would have had to be in the ecosystem at the time.
*00:00*
to be next.
*00:00*
We'll see.
*00:00*
or Titan are referenced in Allen Wake 2 as well, but they're more specifically referenced in the control DLC.
*00:00*
Um, it seems like it's going to now allow you to play that story.
*00:00*
Playing both your back to back.
*00:00*
favorite games.
*00:00*
I mean, I'm not assuming anything, but I'm under the assumption that we'll get a pro it my job sent to us.
*00:00*
three key decisions that you could like select at the start of the game.
*00:00*
Pfft ten years ago.
*00:00*
Two in a row.
*00:00*
Get the modern.
*00:00*
The Vale Guard, so that's three.
*00:00*
And I'm really I have a back catalog of probably 15 to 20 games on my PlayStation Store wishlist that I really want to
*00:00*
PS1, I think Blood Omen Legacy of Kane.
*00:00*
So it's less about PS Plus itself.
*00:00*
Yeah, I think the price only going up further actually entices scalpers more because scalpers don't care about what the base price is because the goal is to recoup their money.
*00:00*
uh to see I'm not saying that I'm entitled to a gray PS5 Pro bundle thing, but it is just frustrating that the people who truly wanted it and would have paid a thousand dollars for it
*00:00*
uh just let people get a non-numbered limited one and then that would have helped weed out some people and still sold pros so it's exciting or you know the idea of that is exciting
*00:00*
was pretty slim.
*00:00*
Yes, I do too.
*00:00*
for w with the same color scheme basically.
*00:00*
Uh yep.
*00:00*
I can take advantage of everything that the pro has, yes.
*00:00*
on another podcast the other day, but like so th for the amount of complaints that there's been about the pro, I'm gonna guess that seventy five percent of the people complaining probably don't even have great TVs to take advantage of what it could do in the first place.
*00:00*
uh or vast majority of people playing on TVs, I should say, probably still do not even have refresh rates that go that high.
*00:00*
Fidelity Pro, Performance Pro.
*00:00*
That's weird.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
Which obviously the remake wasn't even a thing.
*00:00*
But your a best experience, like you mentioned with journey, you can have a very fond, memorable experience or time with a game that maybe you don't have a same, you know, like journey, great game.
*00:00*
O'Garena of Times, my favorite game ever.
*00:00*
I think more specifically, I was trying to avoid putting The Last of Us Part One and Part Two on the list.
*00:00*
I'm just saying the Wind Waker.
*00:00*
Um I have fond memories of Ultimate 2 with our little you know tournament we did in tandem with when that came out.
*00:00*
I think it has the most interesting and engaging narrative they've done.
*00:00*
Because I was furloughed from work and just could could actually just play a game.
*00:00*
and retrospect.
*00:00*
Like I never got any time off.
*00:00*
G the furlough from Disney I talk about is like the last summer vacation I'll ever have because it was I was still being financially provided for, but I didn't um
*00:00*
art, but also the way this game was talked about and revealed, the whole twist of the game, not the certain character deaths that take place, but
*00:00*
like gun to your head.
*00:00*
Just all those things.
*00:00*
Top ten and I'm going to put Soul Silver on here.
*00:00*
Let's bring JLB's blonde now.
*00:00*
It's my understanding at least, uh, on the disc.
*00:00*
back to it because the sound of Alan Wake altogether and then you throw in quantum break and control which I infamously have problems with from PAX 2019 but
*00:00*
I had a very unique perspective of and time with and experience with, so there's a little bit of personal tie to that.
*00:00*
Like that.
*00:00*
Here's what has h happening this month in the game.
*00:00*
Please.
*00:00*
But let's pass it to this other studio to do that's what I'm saying.
*00:00*
And just, you know, here's this level and go find your your moons.
*00:00*
Uh best Mario platformer ever, 3D Mario platformer ever.
*00:00*
I didn't think about it as much at a publisher level as I mean I know these things are internally developed at Capcom.
*00:00*
uh video game soundtrack of all time, which, you know, I feel like is a little overdone at this point with people praising persona music, but I mean it's
*00:00*
Enjoy the ride.
*00:00*
um the social sim aspects of it and just talking to the characters and getting to know different people and seeing these storylines that they set up.
*00:00*
Uh the next time I play Thousand Your Door will of course be the Switch version.
*00:00*
A lot of those same mechanics.
*00:00*
And it just continues to really geek me up for that.
*00:00*
We're not gonna get a Metal Gear 6, I don't think.
*00:00*
to have any intention of doing anything with it other than like we're gonna remaster these games and we're gonna remake this game.
*00:00*
really did improve.
*00:00*
It's Unreal Engine 5.
*00:00*
Naked Snake and Solid Snake aren't the same.
*00:00*
Um and I had to weigh different things.
*00:00*
It's why it's why with this game specifically when I hear the arguments of like, well, they should make an easy mode, I'm like, no, they have created a masterpiece because there is no easy mode.
*00:00*
Yeah, so that is the one I own.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
It feels much smaller compared to games we have now.
*00:00*
And obviously this you could say this this game is a blueprint of what was uh borrows from Link to the Past.
*00:00*
And this is my childhood game.
*00:00*
With the uh living on my own alone, which gave us a leak of legends.
*00:00*
It's a game that respects your time, your curiosity.
*00:00*
either just because of its art style.
*00:00*
It was funny, the thing that kept me from getting a hundred percent of the achievements on Xbox was uh I didn't know which seeds or whatever I was missing.
*00:00*
larger areas, but they all kind of funnel back into a hub like a high ruled field does.
*00:00*
Basically like he gave people free will and dipped.
*00:00*
that much.
*00:00*
I mean, like I was saying before, I was like, I I've always said Ocarina of Times my own.
*00:00*
And then this time around I was like, let's just use our brains here.
*00:00*
Yeah, watching league is one of my favorite things.
*00:00*
It's a good one.
*00:00*
You know, Birth by Sleep is still good.
*00:00*
gonna happen.
*00:00*
It's probably because we chose to talk about the state of play too, but it's okay.
*00:00*
millennial gaming speak.
*00:00*
We're gonna think of this actually as a millennial gaming speak reunion, everyone.
*00:00*
And no switch.
*00:00*
In June.
*00:00*
Headsets, all the things.
*00:00*
This topic.
*00:00*
I mean, as we'll both talk about here later in the episode, there's been a lot of I was almost shocked at how many games have come out over the past eight years that I was like, oh, this needs to be in my top list here.
*00:00*
or what have you, but it's the it's so over, we're so back.
*00:00*
It's been a ride.
*00:00*
leading the company right now.
*00:00*
They're just in a weird spot and I I think the thing that I can say right now about PlayStation moving forward is that I'm concerned because I don't know if I like the people that they have.
*00:00*
like on social media that shows to me he gets PlayStation fans and like knows what we want and knows what we like.
*00:00*
And I feel like Layden was a big proponent of why things like PSX came back and were happening in the first place.
*00:00*
Understood business stuff to a certain degree.
*00:00*
So I'm concerned about him.
*00:00*
quite often is Apple.
*00:00*
Through COVID, getting these units as quickly shipped out, we remember that the PS5 launch was very notoriously difficult to get.
*00:00*
Former Bungie developer, uh Ryan.
*00:00*
It's that developer mindset.
*00:00*
They bought Firewalk from Probably Monsters.
*00:00*
Um, and that was a second party game, so there's a little bit of distance there, but it had a great successful launch and then has fallen off, apparently.
*00:00*
Now we're seeing some of those decisions come to market because it does take a long time for these to come to fruition and some are hitting, some are not.
*00:00*
We've ended up with a lot of projects that as we you and I have previously talked about, multiplayer games out the wazoo.
*00:00*
is doing.
*00:00*
Which is good and bad.
*00:00*
Ghost of Yotai.
*00:00*
Who what am I to say?
*00:00*
respond to really quick is that like you're not a fan of where PlayStation is going with the rest of this generation, like you mentioned, you know
*00:00*
Fair games and stuff like that.
*00:00*
What we still have yet to see though is what the fallout from Concord is.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
But every week there's something coming out that I'm like, dang, I want to play that.
*00:00*
I'm curious to see how that sure we'll be able to tell visually how that's reflected in like the architecture of towns and in the
*00:00*
I don't know I mean I guess they could have that.
*00:00*
six to seven years would probably have not been taken into account obviously when this game was conceptualized.
*00:00*
I could see this.
*00:00*
stories and I see people respond to it.
*00:00*
Yeah, I mean I the game the trailer was very pretty.
*00:00*
to do with it because of uh the key art shows her with what like six
*00:00*
Oh yeah, that's right, that's right, that's right.
*00:00*
plans and announcements that we are aware of or privy to from that online MMO.
*00:00*
It's satiated.
*00:00*
I mean, it's really the same thing because you gotta think that they've already had a sequel to like this is what I don't understand is like more often than not, what you're trying to remaster is something that
*00:00*
hasn't been available in like any capacity for a hot minute.
*00:00*
And didn't it already have a PS5 update for it as well?
*00:00*
Let's make it look like The Last of Us Part 2.
*00:00*
I am happy there's an upgrade path for those so inclined.
*00:00*
past.
*00:00*
are anything redeemed with PS Plus.
*00:00*
you know, tr drama surrounding that they weren't going to make a sequel.
*00:00*
that we've been to this area of the world before and investigated this situation with Allen and Caldron Lake and that sort of thing and
*00:00*
It's just it it's just incongruent with uh like these decisions that Sony is making.
*00:00*
Stupid things for happening.
*00:00*
far more kind of Dark Souls than what this is now.
*00:00*
A terrible name.
*00:00*
I'm glad that this felt like the last thing that Hitman needed to do for me personally.
*00:00*
Do you have interest in this?
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
PS Plus, not as much of the PS Plus games for this coming month, even though those are very good.
*00:00*
Positive.
*00:00*
The PlayStation 1 turns 30 in December based off its Japanese release.
*00:00*
So it was this terrible dance of But it said we all got placed in random order once they decided to s do that.
*00:00*
It's post- I guess that's true.
*00:00*
So it was just a very frustrating morning.
*00:00*
Wouldn't get it, and then those who would want to get the bundle could get the bundle, but like, come on, everybody was gonna get that who wanted it, you know, or had the opportunity to get it, I should say.
*00:00*
They could have made a select run of these bundles, numbered at 20, 12,300 or whatever, that had the etching on it, and maybe had just a couple other things, and then
*00:00*
If they would have just like if they really wanted to increase the price the sales of the PS5 Pro because that thing is still sitting, I got an a message or an email today from Sony saying, hey, did you know the PS5 Pro is available for pre-order?
*00:00*
I should say.
*00:00*
three to four percent back on every purchase and just but now now you're out in the lurch waiting.
*00:00*
Previous anniversary, the 20th, and we had a lot of those dual shot controllers for a long time.
*00:00*
They've uh yeah if there's one thing that Sony has done this gen, it's not skimp on the controllers.
*00:00*
Yeah, I hope so.
*00:00*
Are you interested in the pro?
*00:00*
Flush with cash for this, but seeing the graphical gains and performance gains really made me go, that is what I want.
*00:00*
just you know prettier consoles and ideally keep my original PS5 as well so that I have two so you know one can
*00:00*
be inside the house.
*00:00*
Play my games everywhere.
*00:00*
Um and then I can put it through its paces and download Alan Wake 2 on it, like I said, and see how that goes.
*00:00*
And then you're just coming in like this is a top 10 game ever.
*00:00*
Five was Mass Effect 2.
*00:00*
But I think I know how I will.
*00:00*
what is my favorite personally me, not what do I think is the best.
*00:00*
So I did do that in my list.
*00:00*
So can I just say one game I really struggled to not put on my list?
*00:00*
Or you could shoot go in a way that like if you have repeats from last time and you just want to get them out of the way that they're on it again, then you could do that or if you wanted to uh you do whatever you want.
*00:00*
It was this or Breath of the Wild, and I'm currently playing Tears of the Kingdom, but was this or Breath of the Wild, right?
*00:00*
I think we've both said in the past, like, we can't end it until we do the Zelda season eventually.
*00:00*
I wanna I I just wanna have a reason to go back and play those things.
*00:00*
I'm trying to squeeze things in there that I want to play at the same time.
*00:00*
Oh you did review it.
*00:00*
part of why I love games.
*00:00*
Uh something.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Pretty much dead to me.
*00:00*
I have played them my entire life.
*00:00*
Um and out of those, I think, you know, Soul Silver is just the obvious one that everybody goes to.
*00:00*
doing something like that where like, okay, if you'd go down the evil route, you're gonna be able to get these powers and you'll have force lightning and you'll be able to choke people.
*00:00*
If you're evil, your lightning is red instead.
*00:00*
those type of RPGs from the early 2000s, I think it still tells one of the best Star Wars stories ever.
*00:00*
It being short is a big fat plus, man.
*00:00*
To the first time playing, being super stressed while Nemesis would show up and bounce around.
*00:00*
But I really also love it as a send-off to Raccoon City and I think it it encapsulates like this fun action side while starting as a horror game and then turns it
*00:00*
Re-examining my favorite games and franchises and things like that, I think I have come to the conclusion that Resident Evil is my favorite franchise of all time.
*00:00*
I'm excited to play Alan Wake 2 someday.
*00:00*
There it is.
*00:00*
And this was just the obvious one for me.
*00:00*
Red Dead 2 was greenlit and began work on while GTA 5 was still like in development and being released.
*00:00*
over.
*00:00*
A hair.
*00:00*
Up.
*00:00*
It is a great, wonderful series full of charming characters, wonderful stories and revelations, and
*00:00*
uh engaging gameplay.
*00:00*
ye old Hurloch Sholms inspired versions of the games where both of those games go together to an all- Did you say Hurloch Sholms?
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
Well, it's so funny, because at the time I had played the four Phoenix Wright games.
*00:00*
Probably my favorite new franchise I've played the past few years.
*00:00*
when we did our pri previous top ten.
*00:00*
I thought it was the same.
*00:00*
Love the battle mechanics, love the turn-based stuff, love the story, love the characters, the music.
*00:00*
It's that good for a reason.
*00:00*
Oh, but it's a hundred and or a hundred and twenty hours.
*00:00*
I think.
*00:00*
I had to keep this on here.
*00:00*
I'm gonna just jump in with you really quick.
*00:00*
And Metal Gear Solid 1 does it as well.
*00:00*
It's just more or less dead.
*00:00*
Delisting saga there for a hot minute because they didn't renew licenses for certain historical footage, that sort of thing.
*00:00*
Guys, it's uh Death Strand 82 on the beach and now Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta, those are the reasons to buy a PS5 Pro.
*00:00*
That would be fun.
*00:00*
For all of these, like it it goes back to what we were talking about before.
*00:00*
But then they make this detour here with Sekiro, and I really think this game is so special.
*00:00*
Skill reliant where everything else you can just kind of like Elden Ring, it's like, oh, this boss is beating me.
*00:00*
This is like if you're getting your face kicked in by a boss, it's because you are bad at the video game and you need to be better at the video game.
*00:00*
Play the game and you have to be good at it and that's that and I love that this is my favorite game they've ever made
*00:00*
talks about them, my friends play them a lot.
*00:00*
And it's uh I think it's called like the Outer Wilds Club or something.
*00:00*
And since then I've just seen so many people lay the same type of praise on it that you have.
*00:00*
uh to watch.
*00:00*
Since you're not recording everything, you can play it at 4K with VR and 60.
*00:00*
the botched screwed up physical version.
*00:00*
is because I just decided when I was six to eight years old that this is my favorite game ever made.
*00:00*
Pretty phenomenally.
*00:00*
always you're just not good enough, but not on the like hard curve of a from software.
*00:00*
It is a game that feels oh so good.
*00:00*
Do you have it on PS4 and PS5?
*00:00*
And it was a PS plus game at some point, so I had the PS4 version as well.
*00:00*
The reason I slotted it above Ocarina of Time is because I think it has a lot of the com same DNA as Ocarina of Time in some sense.
*00:00*
far larger scale and not one-to-one comparison, but it a lot of those same things that I like about Ocarina of Time are here.
*00:00*
ball.
*00:00*
sense.
*00:00*
Get out of here.
*00:00*
It stuck around so long.
*00:00*
Like major props to them for sticking to their Kickstarter and doing it in a great way.
*00:00*
Okay, yeah, Dig is cute and uh pocket, puzzle pocket or whatever, also cute.
*00:00*
I get it.
*00:00*
at all.
*00:00*
And so it's just like, okay, played it like seven, eight times already.
*00:00*
Metal Gear remake, again, doesn't have a date yet, but it'll probably next year.
*00:00*
League of Legends.
*00:00*
I'm gonna, you know, screw it up for them.
*00:00*
Perhaps the biggest fall-off other than Kotor would be Arkham City, but I just haven't replayed Arkham City since it came out.
*00:00*
And that's not to say anything I like those games a lot, but it doesn't feel real in the same way that like the Raimi's movie Raimi movies do to me or something like that.
*00:00*
And then another one I flirted with but ultimately cut was Doom Eternal.
*00:00*
There would have been more of those.
*00:00*
So for anybody who knows what that even was.
*00:00*
Yeah, this is something that's been like, I mean, you came you approached me with this idea, but this is something that's been batting around in my head for a hot minute here as well.
*00:00*
future of the brand, and there's not been a lot of exclusives.
*00:00*
trajectory here on the zoom, which is the life and very quick death of Concord.
*00:00*
strange.
*00:00*
15 20 plus years of the brand.
*00:00*
Yeah, here's one of the twelve thousand that we have.
*00:00*
designing.
*00:00*
Um it seems the stud I what is the studio that does Helldivers?
*00:00*
And then obviously Concorde, The Last of Us Online.
*00:00*
We'll see how it goes.
*00:00*
Well yes, these things these things that are incubating and that are already far enough along, I think we see.
*00:00*
scrapped behind the scenes now that we will never see.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
We know what Insomniac is doing for the next decade.
*00:00*
You know, the Dead Rising remake just came out and I played that and I love that.
*00:00*
diminishing.
*00:00*
2017's hit game, which also was not out when we made our top ten.
*00:00*
I wrote a quick list.
*00:00*
The game itself, we're in a post-Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, like all of these things that have come out and have been like the pillars of the open world genre for the past
*00:00*
thought of and conceptualized around like what twenty fifteen, sixteen, earlier maybe.
*00:00*
And I was like, oh, wow.
*00:00*
Six swords around her.
*00:00*
But not gonna lie, got a little uh fiendish five, Sly Cooper energy from this.
*00:00*
I Horizon Zero Dawn doesn't feel like as weird as this says, deserving of the remaster a remaster.
*00:00*
Um but if you own the game, which I assume most PS4 to PS5 owners do, you can upgrade for, you know, 10 bucks.
*00:00*
full price digitally no matter what.
*00:00*
Maybe.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
It looks hero shooter-y.
*00:00*
like OG Dragon Age, it looks like more akin to Dark Souls
*00:00*
if that one was unfortunate.
*00:00*
play at some point.
*00:00*
So it's and I have the means to play them in a very high zero.
*00:00*
Up until the launch of the item four hours later.
*00:00*
I we joked about this the other day, but like the a sneakers drop is more fair.
*00:00*
Like a lock, I'll take a locked 30 over an unlocked forty-five sixty, you know, like a s stability is key.
*00:00*
To go back to 2016, July 4th.
*00:00*
Uh number nine was Smash Bros Smash Bros Brawl.
*00:00*
That's the one I have the fondest memories out of.
*00:00*
No, I'm sorry.
*00:00*
I think some of them I I think Journey, uh I've listened to the beginning of the episode.
*00:00*
still be the case actually.
*00:00*
From a developer?
*00:00*
So I was like, okay, this is the back half of the list for sure.
*00:00*
And I I think that's been pretty well documented over the course of its seven years.
*00:00*
I kept Wind Waker here instead of Breath of the Wild.
*00:00*
The Switch man.
*00:00*
I'm so curious to see what they do with it next, inevitably, because you know that they can't put it to rest.
*00:00*
Like they'll they'll they'll do something to like make you buy another skew of that game.
*00:00*
It stands out to me.
*00:00*
Yeah, I didn't actually have to work for anything.
*00:00*
the mechanical twist, which I think is just on par with something of a Kojima and is rarely attempted in the triple A space, right?
*00:00*
Game one that I would love to get a VR treatment someday.
*00:00*
It's a good version to pick.
*00:00*
uh Claire like but it it doesn't earn it because it it takes so flipping long to get there and that game has a lot of problems.
*00:00*
Yeah, Alan Wake is the total opposite where it feels like it earns everything that has built up to it and is put in it and
*00:00*
All of those things in Max Pain on some level, like all tying that together.
*00:00*
from Sam Lake, who I think, as far as I understand, can be said in the same breath as someone like a Kojima, as far as just wacky zany, really world-building narrative kind of stuff in a great way.
*00:00*
They add like new quests or things like that, but like it's not like it's from 2013 and it's still going.
*00:00*
You know, I don't that's why it feels like it shouldn't exist.
*00:00*
My Switch 2 hype is like, just for the hardware alone, like like a 2.
*00:00*
I'm not saying it will be Odyssey 2, but they will be building off of what they learned with that.
*00:00*
It's a very interesting fusion of things.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
You had you could go in the menu and you pick like the different endings on the DVD version.
*00:00*
And all of the cases weave together in the culmination of the final case.
*00:00*
Um so yeah.
*00:00*
The new trailer for the remake looks exceptional.
*00:00*
Easier to understand and obviously you can appreciate things if you've played all the other games, but it really just feels singular compared to the others.
*00:00*
That's what really sold me too.
*00:00*
It's the price has never dropped.
*00:00*
Yeah, so it is it's my favorite from software game, for sure.
*00:00*
But if there was a video I could recommend to anyone who's like curious about outer wilds, but is like, why won't he go into more detail?
*00:00*
And he does it in this beautiful way that doesn't spoil anything, obviously.
*00:00*
Like uh recommending Outer Wilds to someone and wanted to show them a little bit more about it without spoiling anything of the experience, this is what I would give them.
*00:00*
Um, and it's there with a far better combat system and a I don't want to say better story because I think Okra Enough Time actually has like one of the most iconic video game stories ever.
*00:00*
It's that much better when you finally do get to those moments.
*00:00*
I feel like I can't pick one.
*00:00*
Dude, that's been so long.
*00:00*
It's like I would I would like to see something new from you.
*00:00*
So you don't have a firm tenth year, is that what you're saying?
*00:00*
Remember when I tried to buy the Bioshock collection with you?
*00:00*
Uh so this is my teenager game, God of War is my adult game, and Ocarina of Times my little boy game.
*00:00*
Arkham City or Arkham Night looks like it could have come out yesterday.
*00:00*
Um I'm disappointed that I didn't have Spider-Man representation of any sort on my list.
*00:00*
to joining the Outer Wilds Club or anything else we talked about.
*00:00*
I've I I need to play, so it'll be fun.
*00:00*
Well, thank you, buddy, for doing this with me.
*00:00*
Yeah, we keep uh we keep the uh the MFP appearances l light because we have our other show and then we did like, you know, a hundred and twenty-something episodes of
*00:00*
I mean, but that's just how it is.
*00:00*
reunion type thing.
*00:00*
Right now is that he is so he is a developer, which the others that have been in charge have not been.
*00:00*
He's giving these teams too much rope and they're hanging themselves with it.
*00:00*
This doesn't look good.
*00:00*
type of CEO.
*00:00*
You've got the game development decisions, and I think this is where we're starting to see a ripple effect of consequences.
*00:00*
But they didn't really have the multiplayer thing down.
*00:00*
five years there.
*00:00*
It seems really cool.
*00:00*
The indie space is still large.
*00:00*
Yeah, it'll it'll all eventually show up.
*00:00*
You know, everything else, pet fifty foxes, write 30 haikus, like all those sorts of things.
*00:00*
It was really a wider.
*00:00*
Explore a hundred shrines.
*00:00*
I'd like if you could take them out in any order, approach, situation, scenarios.
*00:00*
You have a broad goal, but you need to, you know, take down these six, seven, ten, twelve, I don't know, however many people, but you can do it however you want.
*00:00*
Uh yes, Horizon Zero Dawn being remastered.
*00:00*
Not only is the original game far enough away at this point where it makes sense to bring that back, but they have there has not been anything Dead Rising for almost ten years.
*00:00*
We're not light on horizon at all.
*00:00*
games and hardware, like sure, whatever.
*00:00*
cross media focus that Sony has had.
*00:00*
Those people are allowed to upgrade.
*00:00*
Without a doubt.
*00:00*
I don't like looking at this game.
*00:00*
Sequel to Inquisition, like, and I say that you know, not just no saying this is like a sequel to Inquisition in the way that like Mass Effect 2 would be a sequel to Mass Effect 1.
*00:00*
I don't remember anything from that game.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
I just wanted them to do that with Hitman for so long.
*00:00*
I suppose so.
*00:00*
Because once you complete the line.
*00:00*
A portal, an edge controller, a regular controller, all designed after that gray iconic PS1 design.
*00:00*
See, cause your progress bar was like halfway and mine was at the start, and Grant was in between us, and that was the order that we got through.
*00:00*
a very limited number of c of the PS5 Pro in the first place.
*00:00*
couldn't do so or didn't have clear method of doing so communicated to them effectively and fairly.
*00:00*
Tell.
*00:00*
Call of Duty is still re- releasing on PS4 this year.
*00:00*
I don't really have $700 right now.
*00:00*
Eight years ago, I said that my top ten favorite games of all time were I'm gonna my honorable mentions really quick was Dead Space.
*00:00*
Not Marvel Spider-Man 2.
*00:00*
Um two was Bioshock, and then one was O'Green out of time.
*00:00*
Clearly, not only was I just picking like some favorites, I was also trying to pick what I considered the best games of all time.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
At the time trying to present myself as also like I play the best games of all time, very prestigious.
*00:00*
What's my feeling around that game now?
*00:00*
I try well, I didn't try, I did.
*00:00*
No.
*00:00*
If if if there was an uncharted representative, it would have been four.
*00:00*
even its structure this game structural structurally is so dissent d different from the first game.
*00:00*
So this game was very satisfying.
*00:00*
it's not one that happens often.
*00:00*
that as well.
*00:00*
It's certainly in the top three, top two, it could be number one, I could be persuaded.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
But I'll say this too.
*00:00*
Soul Silver and Heart Gold.
*00:00*
like what the future of Star Wars is.
*00:00*
you know, the year that I played it just over and over, getting to the point where I could be a goofball with unlimited rocket launcher ammo, shooting Nemesis in the face.
*00:00*
Very bad in some areas.
*00:00*
action games ever.
*00:00*
Yeah, Alan Wake 2, number eight.
*00:00*
has made me the most tempted to play the remedy games, which we have talked about doing the specific season on, but sometimes I'm like, maybe I should just play them.
*00:00*
Especially in a post-Ragnarok world.
*00:00*
can do.
*00:00*
their timelines to say their own boss.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
Yeah, I don't know.
*00:00*
It's just again it's It's not what you would have wanted.
*00:00*
Banjo Kazooie has died, and in its place is Super Mario Odyssey.
*00:00*
the culmination of a lot of the same ideas that I like about banjo in the first place.
*00:00*
Uh knowing that a new Mario game will probably launch with that console and it will be the follow-up to Odyssey is what really has me excited about the Switch 2.
*00:00*
It's a very good game.
*00:00*
Hardware?
*00:00*
It's a good, it's a fun movie.
*00:00*
So came out in 2017.
*00:00*
Okay, but okay, it at least it come month.
*00:00*
Will always be a favorite game of fine.
*00:00*
We don't.
*00:00*
I realized my last list, I didn't have a Metal Gear wrap.
*00:00*
Medical Solid 3 is the best.
*00:00*
You're eating animals.
*00:00*
one or five point two or it's actually like in an alternate timeline.
*00:00*
Which does look phenomenal.
*00:00*
Write it down.
*00:00*
Bloodborne might be my like it's the one I mo have the most fondness for because it kind of ushered me into their into their world.
*00:00*
Um but just yeah, I I I love Sekuro, man.
*00:00*
I had never played a from software game when we did our last list.
*00:00*
This is your inside this time around.
*00:00*
I got into space and the ship controls were horrible and I hated it.
*00:00*
That's my that's when I identified with with this game is just like oh wow these ship controls are crap I hate this
*00:00*
So it's a ride, dude.
*00:00*
I don't know if that'll be unique or expensive.
*00:00*
This is where the cutoff line really was.
*00:00*
Just ask me and I'd probably say, Oh yeah.
*00:00*
Um it is done to deviate in this way because if I am gonna split hairs here, I will say number three I'm gonna put Okarina of Time.
*00:00*
But no, God War 2018 is a rock solid game.
*00:00*
But they all funnel back into this central hub and then you go out uh go out to different areas from there and explore offshoots and it's the same sort of thing as Ocarina of Time in that regard, obviously, on a
*00:00*
But a story that is very It's fantastic because it's both a sequel and a reboot, and they thread the needle perfectly.
*00:00*
And it paid off.
*00:00*
Shovel Knight, which was on my original Astrobot.
*00:00*
If I'm just going off vibes, I put Super Mario Galaxy.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
And you can't use Vita chambers at all.
*00:00*
on the spot.
*00:00*
Yeah, I mean really exceptional.
*00:00*
More in existence than League of Legends.
*00:00*
But just the community, man.
*00:00*
become part of that is what I hate about it.
*00:00*
With more distance from those games.
*00:00*
It just feels I don't know.
*00:00*
little stretch we've been on this past decade.
*00:00*
But it ends on such a sour note, and that really does kill it.
*00:00*
Breath of the Wild from like a critical perspective, um probably emotional perspective, Breath of the Wild went out because it was at such a moment where we needed that.
*00:00*
as a community and fans of the series in Nintendo, like we needed a slam dunk like that.
*00:00*
It will return.
*00:00*
But the real reason behind this episode, everybody, is is uh eight eight years ago on episode 48 of Millennial Gaming Speed.
*00:00*
And I think that's a good thing to have like that, you know, that history of working in a studio and making games and stuff like that.
*00:00*
And so I don't think he's cut out to be the sort of like hard-nosed guy in charge that PlayStation probably needs to have right now.
*00:00*
It was a very long time before we saw units on store shelves.
*00:00*
Is all of this Hollywood stuff that is coming out of PlayStation as well, which makes sense for Sony.
*00:00*
Naughty Dog hasn't put out an original game in almost five years.
*00:00*
But how does that reflect itself in the gameplay?
*00:00*
Is it a little bit like the jump from Assassin's Creed Brotherhood to Assassin's Creed 3?
*00:00*
when those games were really coming out to the forefront and it's hard to pivot, I imagine.
*00:00*
well received in its own right, but I d I don't think that's what people are really lauding it for necessarily.
*00:00*
I'm pumped.
*00:00*
We'll be we're okay actually.
*00:00*
Here's my thing.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
Drop the the, it's cleaner.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
I don't know, maybe I hope it doesn't.
*00:00*
I just have no the only thing I know is Amy Hennig did some stuff on these.
*00:00*
I I do get the appeal of it.
*00:00*
Because they hate us.
*00:00*
Based off what I could tell, really, you needed to like just happen to be in line right when the cue was tied.
*00:00*
On an item like this, you'll recoup your money.
*00:00*
You might get a PS5 Pro for work to review, which is great.
*00:00*
I I'm very excited to go hands-on with this.
*00:00*
The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, A Thief's End.
*00:00*
No, but I put it there because I thought I think it's one of the best.
*00:00*
Like we're splitting hairs at this point.
*00:00*
Concorde.
*00:00*
There's nothing like being a 12, 13-year-old and sailing on the Great Sea and just discovering things with the music and the sail and everything.
*00:00*
more delightful like the Swift Sail or the Sped up Triforce Quest.
*00:00*
of our little program, our little podcast at some point.
*00:00*
It's one of my favorite party slash multiplayer games ever.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
So I think I have to put that here because Pokemon really is just so integral to every chapter of my life, I think.
*00:00*
renegade and paragon thing from the uh early 2000s there that all the RPGs did where it's like, you know, you can be evil or you can be good.
*00:00*
It's gonna go.
*00:00*
Consistently fun franchise.
*00:00*
Which I don't think is that surprising after how I talked about it last year.
*00:00*
Uh yeah, it's like again talking about franchises, and that's kind of where I started here trying to look at my list this time.
*00:00*
This era of the West, right?
*00:00*
My opinion on that.
*00:00*
Similar ideas, but also new ideas, but also old ideas, but also all sorts of ideas.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
But for some reason I didn't put them on my list.
*00:00*
We really back and forth here with this and the next one.
*00:00*
Yes.
*00:00*
I am able to put this on my top ten.
*00:00*
Elden Ring is the culmination of it all.
*00:00*
on an original version of it.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's the most kind of, I don't want to say it's linear because it's definitely wide and open and there's a
*00:00*
A beautiful atmospheric, wonderfully designed game.
*00:00*
There is a video, I will put a link to it in the show notes.
*00:00*
curious to me.
*00:00*
They're reprinting it with the DLC on it.
*00:00*
I still think it's phenomenal.
*00:00*
Or which pots to plant them in.
*00:00*
Like it is so difficult what they pulled off with this game to where if somebody came to me and said they were a new God of War fan, what should they start with?
*00:00*
And I don't think that would be an issue really much at all.
*00:00*
Yeah, but they still haven't released a game.
*00:00*
And uh it's funny because it's about a city that's underwater.
*00:00*
So I'm here for it.
*00:00*
Uh oh my gosh, there was something else really big.
*00:00*
And so yes.
*00:00*
Live in an arena with 30 or 40,000 people.
*00:00*
I think that's what happened.
*00:00*
Something about it feels sterile.
*00:00*
Um because you know PlayStation's involved and Marvel's involved and they gotta Yes.
*00:00*
We got all sorts of stuff.
*00:00*
Yeah, I feel like we've always got the we've got the center part piece of the year, the E3 predictions episode that we do, and then I feel like I usually appear on one or two other random ones throughout the year.
*00:00*
They've had a month.
*00:00*
Sony's late August of twenty twenty-four to late September of twenty twenty-four.
*00:00*
The whole another chunk of my life is now coming gone.
*00:00*
And when you see that, I think a lot of decisions are like, we need to push in these types of directions.
*00:00*
Nebulous thing.
*00:00*
I am so happy.
*00:00*
Far better than the other.
*00:00*
That's probably what we'll do.
*00:00*
And this one, what is launching with we'll talk about the next one.
*00:00*
I don't know, problematic or something like that.
*00:00*
If these g I don't know, like if the two Horizons games were more closely d tied together, I'd be a bit more lenient and as far as like if you made a narrative choice that impacted the sequel, like, sure, bring that up to date visually and then they tie better together.
*00:00*
The TV show seems like it is in the grave.
*00:00*
But the pro continues to be advertised.
*00:00*
Telling the story that was told via like documents and things like that that was in control.
*00:00*
Not so far gone or far off from Inquisition, because Inquisition is kind of tiptoed t in this direction as well.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's just been so long, and I know I liked Inquisition at the time, but I forget so much about it.
*00:00*
Oh well.
*00:00*
Mm, no, actually it was bad.
*00:00*
PS five Pro Bundle, one thousand dollar bundle, a PS five slim.
*00:00*
Is from what I could suss out.
*00:00*
Um because people would have absolutely done that.
*00:00*
The regular controller.
*00:00*
I'm excited about it all around.
*00:00*
I feel like right now.
*00:00*
And like in a game, it's like, well, gosh, I want it to look as, you know, high-raz clean and crisp as possible, but I really, at the very least, want a stable frame rate.
*00:00*
Our top ten favorite games of all time.
*00:00*
I also have just realized that I s have screwed something up here and I'm gonna have to tweak my current list on the fly.
*00:00*
And it makes me a little emb that's what I'm talking about, an embarrassment.
*00:00*
How I felt at the time with the game and just kind of it's not a game I'd replay.
*00:00*
Great experience, but how does that match up against my experience of, you know, playing Smash Bros.
*00:00*
I'm glad because we didn't talk about like our process of coming going through this journey beforehand.
*00:00*
Yeah, well good.
*00:00*
Visual effects bugs or whatever in the HD version, but the gameplay improvements, of course, in the Wii remake are
*00:00*
I have been wanting to replay both that and specifically Twilight Princess for so long.
*00:00*
The last was part two.
*00:00*
So good.
*00:00*
But when I think back to this game, it is also wrapped up in the personal stuff.
*00:00*
Um eight years ago, I was still hyper into Star Wars.
*00:00*
But I'm gonna throw that remake on there.
*00:00*
a high that I would compare to some of the highs on on my list.
*00:00*
When pushed out shove, I just couldn't.
*00:00*
Resident Evil, there is no single like culmination point where it's like, oh yes, finally, this is what I we've been waiting for.
*00:00*
Um I love it.
*00:00*
Yeah.
*00:00*
Corrupted feels too strong of a word, but like pull you know, changes the direction of everything.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
That is how deep they are.
*00:00*
level with a p specific purpose.
*00:00*
And what's special about it is it has all of the max trappings.
*00:00*
You can.
*00:00*
Number six is Persona 5 Royal.
*00:00*
Just kind of cozy to sink into.
*00:00*
The way it stripped the Metal Gear series down, right?
*00:00*
And because of that I don't think about it as often as I used to, because it you know, it used to be like, oh my gosh, Middle Gear Solid 4 is coming out, it looks so amazing, I'm so geeked up, and then there's the build-up towards that.
*00:00*
saying Metal Gear Solid 3 in in today is that people again do have access to it and there's options.
*00:00*
has the HD port.
*00:00*
Phizzant is out there.
*00:00*
He didn't replace him.
*00:00*
Ugh.
*00:00*
My number four.
*00:00*
It might it might be this.
*00:00*
Sekiro is the only from software game I own.
*00:00*
Make him feel sick.
*00:00*
God of War.
*00:00*
Yeah, I I know you have retroactively, like you said before, disliked this game some in hindsight because of what happens in
*00:00*
Yeah, that's all I would say.
*00:00*
All right, we've reached the part of the program where I w I want to talk through my feelings and my struggle.
*00:00*
I just feel like there's not enough room on this list.
*00:00*
The Mario games, I really have only played the 3D platformers once.
*00:00*
Going uh off your alphabetical order, I know you've booted off Shovel Knight and you're talking about platformers too.
*00:00*
Do you have the platinum?
*00:00*
But I hate it at the same time.
*00:00*
So I love League for that, but I hate it for so many other things.
*00:00*
Dwindled in my mind because of that.
*00:00*
I replayed those games I think in 2019.
*00:00*
And I saw somebody finally put it the other day that they really, I think, drew attention to what I think it is.
*00:00*
Um so that's why I left it off here.
*00:00*
It is in the works, I promise.
*00:00*
We talked about our top our ten favorite games of all time individually.
*00:00*
We just learned what Sucker Punch is doing.
*00:00*
You know, Uncharted 4 is coming out, but it's delayed like two years out of its original window.
*00:00*
I'm curious how the new time zone will reflect.
*00:00*
I don't know, I just don't have PS plus premium.
*00:00*
pressed about it.
*00:00*
In time for review.
*00:00*
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
*00:00*
I really just wanted to avoid basically having two naughty dog games toward the top of my list.
*00:00*
Do you want to do actually uh let's let's do honorable mentions after.
*00:00*
Do any sort of thing?
*00:00*
That's pretty that's pretty good.
*00:00*
the kind of money that mode would print.
*00:00*
I think support is over or they've announced the end of it.
*00:00*
What do you what do you have next?
*00:00*
you know cappy rules the capy mechanics are great taking everything over great love it so much charm so much style
*00:00*
Not totally identical, basically.
*00:00*
And then I have not written it off, but because obviously I've heard a lot of impression, though.
*00:00*
25 bucks with the DLC 40.
*00:00*
Move away from that or not move away from it intentionally because it really still is.
*00:00*
find like a d a decent quick summary video.
*00:00*
I love platformers.
*00:00*
evolution and expansion and great 2D platformer design.
*00:00*
And we're getting like what they're doing next is the thing that people have wanted where they're kind of teasing like a 64 style.
*00:00*
Yeah, it's yeah, I did a big college essay on this game.
*00:00*
And that's not to say I'm, you know, using slurs or anything crazy like some people do.
*00:00*
I'm surprised how many games from the past eight years have really been at the top of my consideration here.
*00:00*
I've got uh all sorts of stuff in the pipelines.
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
general game development thing.
*00:00*
And I look at Jim Ryan in a similar way.
*00:00*
of like production line efficiency, if I remember correctly.
*00:00*
But Sony obviously throughout the PS4 generation saw these live service models pick up.
*00:00*
So far, successful.
*00:00*
Because it has been a long time since some studios have put out games.
*00:00*
I've watched gameplay I've read the script.
*00:00*
It's very strange to me how people talk about that game because I see so many people saying, This is a masterpiece.
*00:00*
There might be a you know an ideal path or a golden path that the game will kind of try to focus you down, but in in reality you can do it.
*00:00*
It's gonna be 2026.
*00:00*
Remaster a game that doesn't feel that old, but when you look at it on paper, it's eight years.
*00:00*
But like the last I think The Last of Us is a better game than Horizon Zero Dawn.
*00:00*
But yeah, it's jarring.
*00:00*
So yeah, I just think they've been doing a better job recently with all of this, and I'm happy about that.
*00:00*
Yeah, I totally want it.
*00:00*
that that there's much reason to get one.
*00:00*
But then maybe kind of go, you know, alternate back and forth round Robin style through our current list is kind of what I thought.
*00:00*
Who cares?
*00:00*
Um but at the end of the day, like I really was thinking about it.
*00:00*
It's good stuff.
*00:00*
This is why I keep holding out partially.
*00:00*
Well this sucks.
*00:00*
And I decided to go with my gut.
*00:00*
So I really like that.
*00:00*
Okay.
*00:00*
Persona 5 dancing, right?
*00:00*
I don't know.
*00:00*
There is a new patch coming out actually soon that we're going to be able to do that.
*00:00*
I'll keep an eye on some sales here.
*00:00*
Speaking of top-down 2D Zeldas, it is It's just a tight game, man.
*00:00*
It just it's a great game.
*00:00*
It's a stunning game.
*00:00*
So like yes, Shovel Knight, a great game.
*00:00*
But I think personally, just right now, like I'm a little shovel knighted out.
*00:00*
I can just say look I'll just tell you number one.
*00:00*
Yeah, I mean five of mine are from the last eight years.
*00:00*
I would probably put Birth by Sleep on a list, like a bigger list.
*00:00*
I mean, and we've we talked about this on some of those podcasts that I mentioned appeared on.
*00:00*
I look at Jim Ryan as an analogy to another very successful company, and one that I think Sony tries to emulate.
*00:00*
Production, the production line, getting things out efficiently and swiftly, models, and he's really tuned Apple, obviously.
*00:00*
I think we're starting to see decisions that were at the start of the PS5 generation coming into fruition and they're gonna be impacting the rest of the generation.
*00:00*
Maybe, but I feel like more often than not, like as somebody who's in media and sees a lot of, you know, I still post stuff on social media all the time for
*00:00*
And it is on PC as well, so those people as well could basically buy a ten dollar upgrade patch.
*00:00*
It's all new.
*00:00*
I'm happy for that.
*00:00*
And I like games from this era.
*00:00*
And then 10 to 1 was Hotline Miami, Journey, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.
*00:00*
I really think that this, I mean, I'll say this, or actually I won't say this.
*00:00*
And it just looks so good, man.
*00:00*
I replayed him a couple years ago and it is so good.
*00:00*
I have come to the determination that any of these games in the top three could be my number one.
*00:00*
That's uh that's always fun when you know where everything's at.
*00:00*
All sorts of things.
*00:00*
But my favorite, and then you then you you go back and you think about it and it's like well Celeste is really hard but the music's really good and it's great looking
*00:00*
I think of the soundtrack more now than the gameplay in that.
*00:00*
But honestly, when they were like, here's Shovel Knight DX, Shovel of like Shovel of Hope DX.
*00:00*
Annually, I get the itch to play this game.
*00:00*
I'd like to replay him at some point, especially with the VR one coming out.
*00:00*
Um last couple things.
*00:00*
The fine people can go find your work over at comicbook.
*00:00*
And I think that was instrumental in getting the PS5 launched the way it was.
*00:00*
Yeah, I feel like it'll be delayed.
*00:00*
Bungie, Marathon, and Destiny too, until they recoup some costs.
*00:00*
I read I read how it starts and where it ends.
*00:00*
And I still think, you know, we talk about all the petting all the foxes, which was so obnoxious.
*00:00*
While Zerodawn is seven going on eight years old, Forbidden West is two.
*00:00*
I'm curious, you know, where's our order 1886 remaster?
*00:00*
And I think that I I blurred the distinction between favorite and best.
*00:00*
Do you not have my list I would say I had a group of about five to six that I immediately knew was like above the other
*00:00*
Just choose whatever you would like.
*00:00*
Alright, uh next in the alphabet, another game that starts with the word the
*00:00*
I'm trying I'm debating here and I'll and I'll tell and I'll say what it I think it's being swapped for.
*00:00*
Zero I could you know consider or code Veronica.
*00:00*
Red Dead Redemption 2, baby.
*00:00*
But the scope of what GTA Online would become I don't even think Rockstar and 2K like anticipate.
*00:00*
Would be a lot different and actually may have been a bit more viable.
*00:00*
Not not uh not persona please.
*00:00*
Go listen to that for deeper thoughts.
*00:00*
Alright.
*00:00*
I'm not I'm not talking like, you know, time loop stuff or or what have you.
*00:00*
This is an encapsulation of my childhood, but that's also why it's been hard for me to slot this anywhere other than the top spot over the years.
*00:00*
And then I played City and Knight on Xbox, I believe, because I had to wait to get my Death Straining PS4 Pro.
*00:00*
Like that was one of their games that in 2020, their whole like stay-at-home promotion, they gave that game away to everybody for free.
*00:01*
We're getting we've gotten Sly Cooper this summer.
*00:01*
These are the things that I want.
*00:01*
So I I accepted fate pretty early on.
*00:01*
Inside, which I believe came out like two weeks prior to this list.
*00:01*
Nathan Drake of her you could have done an Uncharted and uh I just I unless those are different enough.
*00:01*
And with that being said, I'm not ha I do not have a single representative from Resident Evil in my top ten.
*00:01*
It's really what a team that large with literally endless money and resources and time
*00:01*
But now we're in a post-GTA online world and we're in a world where GTA 6 will be coming out uh next year, presumably on time.
*00:01*
Huh.
*00:01*
And so yeah, we'll see if maybe at the end of it I would feel the same way about it as you do.
*00:01*
Yeah, it's I think the reason I was comfortable booting banjo off.
*00:01*
Fascinating.
*00:01*
Interesting.
*00:01*
I think it's the second two.
*00:01*
Outer wilds.
*00:01*
Uh Death's Door.
*00:01*
Which is to say not really.
*00:01*
It's the IP, it's the brand.
*00:01*
But like I want Mina the Hollower.
*00:01*
It all went downhill when they changed Peter's face again.
*00:01*
So Breath of the Wild was known for sure at that point.
*00:01*
Somebody who was in the it was the guy who was in the 30th anniversary reveal video.
*00:01*
You know, Steve would write a paper why Java, you know, Java emulator in the in web browsers is bad.
*00:01*
No, it says ten dollars for both PS5 and PC.
*00:01*
That's what I was gonna ask you about.
*00:01*
Showy 50 point dunk in the dunk contest.
*00:01*
haven't liked doing than picking between performance mode and fidelity mode.
*00:01*
There are very max games on there, obviously, Shovel Knight, Kingdom Hearts, Birth by Sleep, those types of things.
*00:01*
Because I noticed that and I'm like I I mean to be frank, I think only one
*00:01*
like really try to hone in on like what do I like the most and like really same same check like myself and my feelings and
*00:01*
Why does this stand out compared to especially the first game?
*00:01*
And yet it is a game about quiet moments and characters who you truly
*00:01*
This one is a series I wanted to have some representation this time around, and I went back and forth on which game to include.
*00:01*
Very unique conceptually in that way of like you're a lawyer defending people.
*00:01*
Instead of Sherlock Holmes.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
I've only the last time I played was the first time I had replayed four.
*00:01*
It's got its moments, but whatever.
*00:01*
I feel like I feel like I'm Shovel Knighted out.
*00:01*
I basically the honorable mentions are all fighting for the final slot, I suppose.
*00:01*
My passions from each of the ten years of my life now that I'm 30 here.
*00:01*
So many script revisions from five different parties involved trying to make this game.
*00:01*
League of Legends should make a game.
*00:01*
We did for a long time and then they canceled it with the online game.
*00:01*
What are people talking about?
*00:01*
The reasons you would buy a console historically are not as front and center now compared to how they were in the past.
*00:01*
It was pretty, presentation was off the charts, had a fine story for the most part, okay combat, but like
*00:01*
And uh the launch was an absolute disaster from a complete lack of communication about the time and pricing to the actual event itself, where it was
*00:01*
sixty and higher fidelity.
*00:01*
I think I love it.
*00:01*
What I It's a slow burn.
*00:01*
It's just straight port, I think.
*00:01*
The only other game d from my list that has returned.
*00:01*
I'm still holds a very special place in my heart.
*00:01*
It is unique and the way it makes you feel is unparalleled.
*00:01*
If if anyone was curious about Outer Wilds and really wanted to Are you gonna make a video about this game?
*00:01*
Okay.
*00:01*
It's a great video and it's nine and a half minutes.
*00:01*
They dropped the ball big time there.
*00:01*
And it's like, okay, please let's move on.
*00:01*
But I think that'll do it.
*00:01*
In twenty nineteen is when he became the CEO?
*00:01*
It just feels weird.
*00:01*
Three in a row.
*00:01*
This looks to be the full complete VR package, not just Hitman 3, but all three games.
*00:01*
But it is frustrating.
*00:01*
So that's what I want to do.
*00:01*
I'm not really that worried about it.
*00:01*
What were yours?
*00:01*
I think about this a lot.
*00:01*
It's it's the obvious choice as the best Pokemon game.
*00:01*
Feel like it need to be it needs to be the right ticket for it.
*00:01*
You can even play them on PlayStation.
*00:01*
But you wouldn't have touch controls.
*00:01*
I don't know if they came to the Wii U digitally.
*00:01*
What's uh what's uh your number five?
*00:01*
We did it like four years ago or three years ago at this point.
*00:01*
But Metal Gear still may be my favorite franchise ever.
*00:01*
I hope it does fix a lot.
*00:01*
No, not specifically.
*00:01*
Witcher 3 is a whole lot of fine.
*00:01*
Uh but then you know, Breath of the Wild.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Atreus goes to college.
*00:01*
It's I love the world and the story and all the combat was so great.
*00:01*
But that's not me.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Exactly.
*00:01*
I'm a genius.
*00:01*
And deeply care about over the course of the journey.
*00:01*
But other than that, it's just kind of left up to you the order you want to tackle everything in, which is a far cry from the structure of a lot of the previous Mario games.
*00:01*
And it is actually really fun to do a completionist run of that game, I will say.
*00:01*
We're we're there.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
And then of course you could check out the show notes for the episode over at maxfrequency.
*00:01*
You wanna talk about PlayStation?
*00:01*
There's good and bad in both, all of it.
*00:01*
The obviously consumers wanted open world samurai game for quite a while and done well.
*00:01*
And I didn't know if you still feel the same way or if you are pleased with how this has been going recently.
*00:01*
I feel like it'll just come back in stock and I feel like the regular dual sense is gonna be a fairly like achievable item to get.
*00:01*
I believe did you review the portal too?
*00:01*
One could be out here in the office and kind of just have the PS5 everywhere in the house, which would be nice.
*00:01*
We were in October.
*00:01*
Two games from that original list are even on the list that I'm gonna bring up tonight.
*00:01*
Little column A, little column B.
*00:01*
I've played Kotor once in my life.
*00:01*
It's it's so so good.
*00:01*
Um wow.
*00:01*
Enjoy the moments where you're playing this game.
*00:01*
I wrote that, I'll tell you right now.
*00:01*
I don't know.
*00:01*
So you know, we keep that.
*00:01*
And I I really wanted to talk about the state of play with you and the the whole 30th anniversary collection slash pre-order specifically.
*00:01*
We were, unfortunately.
*00:01*
And then obviously all the other original Sony picture stuff.
*00:01*
It's it's whatever.
*00:01*
I mean if we go back into our podcast, you were pumped for Andromeda.
*00:01*
Like yeah, I'm generally curious.
*00:01*
What a time, man.
*00:01*
Interesting.
*00:01*
It's a sentence you I never thought would be able to be uttered, including the investigations games.
*00:01*
Ghost of uh Shushima had a multiplayer.
*00:01*
Yeah, but like come on.
*00:01*
And Naughty Dogs turning away on two new game or two games, Last of Us Part Three and New IP for the first time in over a decade.
*00:01*
So I'm glad that's just finally making the jump over.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Is this the one where you think you put it number one just like off the top of your head?
*00:01*
Cause here's something I decided to slat on instead upon thinking about things this afternoon.
*00:01*
I d like uh I feel like like Red Dead 3, which isn't shouldn't probably be a thing, like that's not w is whatever's next for Rockstar.
*00:01*
Please listen to Chapter Select.
*00:01*
Ugh.
*00:01*
But yeah, I still just think this game is fantastic in its own right.
*00:01*
It's bad.
*00:01*
It's not I'm not as excited for the future.
*00:01*
Is it Yote Yotai?
*00:01*
We've already actually mentioned Ghost of Yote.
*00:01*
Well maybe I don't know.
*00:01*
Um I guarantee you they could have sold out sold out of their entire stock of PS5 Pro consoles if they would have just made this gray color scheme and threw a colored PlayStation logo on it and just allowed people to get as many as they wanted.
*00:01*
I I I hope so.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
Yeah.
*00:01*
It is a it is an immersive Metal Gear Solid 3 like
*00:01*
And I know, like I just said, that they are all clearly working on GTA 6 and still supporting GTA 5.
*00:01*
Yeah, I like Super Mario Odyssey a lot.
*00:01*
But I decided to be a purist in the sense of just picking one game instead of one of the games that's like a bundle that includes this and other ones.
*00:01*
Do you watch the alternate endings?
*00:01*
But I chose Trials and Tribulations because it is contained enough where you can play just the one game and get everything you need out of it.
*00:01*
Again, like looking at the remake, because I did a deep dive on this yesterday and then just kind of poured back through everything they've announced with the remake so far and shown off.
*00:01*
Twin Snakes is fun.
*00:01*
Um it's it's very untethered from a lot of the other things that are tied to the Souls games, like, Oh no, you've been invaded by this guy who's got a large sword and he's gonna come smack you with it now.
*00:01*
Used a similar weapon.
*00:01*
Please give us Judas.
*00:01*
Paper Mario, The Last of Us, Banjo Kazooie, Resident Evil, Pokemon, a lot of stuff we talked about tonight.
*00:01*
A pre-switch existence.
*00:01*
And then they bought and were sold and coming through.
*00:01*
Like, and then you mentioned the VR game as well.
*00:01*
It is The Legend of Zelda the Wind Waker.
*00:01*
But this leans back into the favorite side.
*00:01*
It was just another year.
*00:01*
I'm gonna I'm gonna interject this now.
*00:01*
But yeah, best Mario game ever, for sure.
*00:01*
You've talked about these you've talked about these games enough to where I would like to check them out at some point.
*00:01*
Oh I guess.
*00:01*
Now I'm going to school and then later today I'm gonna do this activity and I'm gonna work on this social link and I'm gonna and just juggling all these balls at a s at a single time.
*00:01*
No, they said 2024, I thought.
*00:01*
So I guess before the state of play, how are we feeling about Sony in general right now?
*00:01*
He's definitely more business leaning than Steve was, while cutthroat and ruthless, but also
*00:01*
Like so it was they had their slate pretty well lined up.
*00:01*
And what we still have I'm not optimistic, I should say.
*00:01*
We know Corey is working on a new game.
*00:01*
It sounds like uh our protagonist is hunting down people to kill in a path of vengeance.
*00:01*
Uh I don't think you should.
*00:01*
What what else is?
*00:01*
And obviously I know these two games are part of a larger series, but just on its own, do you have any sort of fascination with seeing the roots of Amy Hennay here?
*00:01*
I'm glad.
*00:01*
I didn't want a a Last of Us uncharted situation or there's nothing else really on my list.
*00:01*
But he would just replace him with Kiefer Sutherland.
*00:01*
Um because I think the best game they have ever made as a company is
*00:01*
Okay.
*00:01*
They're great platformers.
*00:01*
It's a pretty tough platinum, isn't it?
*00:01*
And so you can just saving all the time.
*00:01*
No.
*00:01*
I wonder if there's six targets, six other samurai to uh fight.
*00:01*
Like I I get it from a a technical perspective.
*00:01*
Dragon Age, uh oh gosh, what is it called?
*00:01*
I'm happy for the Dragon Age people.
*00:01*
So okay.
*00:01*
But my my thing is most of the games that I do would want to play that that I know of on these libraries I already own.
*00:01*
So that but then because I didn't get the bundle, so I guess Sony wins ultimately, I also decided to pre-order the 20th annivers or 30th anniversary edition PlayStation Portal because
*00:01*
I mean, when I say top of the land, obviously there's a lot better ones out there that are far, far more expensive.
*00:01*
It just depends on what you're getting.
*00:01*
But like I really tried to like, you know, have a conversation with myself of like, okay, why do I always default to like saying this is my favorite game?
*00:01*
Yeah, or from a developer.
*00:01*
And that's why I think that the excitement is so much there for GTA 6 as well, because they are the one studio in the industry that really, it seems like, gets to determine
*00:01*
It's almost more than a lot of things.
*00:01*
Yeah, I had dabbled with Golden on my Vita, but I had never played it and Persona 5 wasn't even out yet.
*00:01*
I am pretty darn sure.
*00:01*
You are the second close friend that I have had recommend this game to me in like a six to eight month span and his just come to me.
*00:01*
And truly they they kept making they made sequels.
*00:01*
Because it killed Arkham As I Arkham Asylum I got about three quarters of the way through and then my PS4 Pro died.
*00:01*
Analog pockets.
*00:02*
Uh it is it's probably my favorite meme of the year.
*00:02*
And like, cause I mean that one report that came out said like a lot of the issues with Concord was like toxic positivity
*00:02*
Sounds interesting.
*00:02*
I'm curious that this one's set like 300 years or something in the future, I think.
*00:02*
So you've been you've been doing a lot of Sony stuff.
*00:02*
Here we go.
*00:02*
I mean this is, you know, real time discussion about this, but I really do want to do our Zelda season
*00:02*
Ever.
*00:02*
But it is what it is.
*00:02*
I was in a GameStop the other day, totally forgot that they brought Red Dead Redemption 1 to like PS4.
*00:02*
Metal Gear Solid 3 is also on my list.
*00:02*
It's again, hopefully isn't screwed up and does have original gameplay type modes or a new more modern control scheme.
*00:02*
Like you asked earlier in the episode, like how is anything sold you about the pro do you want it?
*00:02*
Plenty of people played them.
*00:02*
But 2018 is remarkable.
*00:02*
I feel that.
*00:02*
But the other thing with League, I think I realized I like watching League more than I like playing League.
*00:02*
You know, some honorable mentions I didn't mention in my platformer spiral.
*00:02*
There's still things coming out of that space that I'm really uh interested in.
*00:02*
Yeah, because that's the joke, I guess.
*00:02*
The PS4 Pro.
*00:02*
Hitman, they've answered my prayers.
*00:02*
Kind of akin to something like uh Prince of Persia from back in the day, to my knowledge.
*00:02*
Um I I think the weirdest thing to me about this is
*00:02*
Like if you were an outside regular consumer like myself, is this something you'd be pursuing at launch now that you have the the big, nice modern TV?
*00:02*
I imagine check something like that out.
*00:02*
So it was just OG Dead's face, Destiny, and Slide Cooper 2.
*00:02*
What do you prioritize higher when making a list like this?
*00:02*
And so like drags it down.
*00:02*
You're telling me I could have played this on a pro and had all these bells and whistles and if you do play before that, play it on Xbox, that at least does output at a native 4K because of the one
*00:02*
But it is the most like single player game centric one of the bunch.
*00:02*
The next one for me alphabetically.
*00:02*
This is something I've been meaning to ask you, is how quickly you deleted Kingdom Hearts off your list of things.
*00:02*
So That sounds about right.
*00:02*
And after Steve Jobs' death, Tim Cook came to the top.
*00:02*
I wonder though, your user reviews, I wonder if that's people coming back retroactively after the multiplayer mode, which I heard was quite good.
*00:02*
That would be very helpful.
*00:02*
They need some.
*00:02*
Oh, f like four in a row, I guess.
*00:02*
Then uh Amy Hennig's games making a comeback.
*00:02*
Don't don't hold me that if I'm wrong.
*00:02*
So really what we needed to do was be at the end of the line to get through the line, and then you're placed in a random number.
*00:02*
Just like what Phil Spencer wants me to do, just not with his console.
*00:02*
Um, I think the original game now I would prefer that visually.
*00:02*
And whatever way you can play that, go with the Wind Waker.
*00:02*
Interesting.
*00:02*
Yeah, what do you have next, buddy?
*00:02*
It's stellar.
*00:02*
I enjoyed that one.
*00:02*
All of those things and then the credits roll.
*00:02*
Persona 5.
*00:02*
It is kind of a dead franchise.
*00:02*
I know.
*00:02*
It's Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
*00:02*
It's uh for you specifically, I know how much you like Oberdin.
*00:02*
This is my favorite childhood game.
*00:02*
Oh yeah, this makes sense.
*00:02*
And then, but I was always like, no, but it's really Ocarina of Time because that's what spoke to me as a young six-year-old boy or whatever.
*00:02*
I thought this was gonna be on there, but I don't hate any game.
*00:02*
One day I will replay Kingdom Hearts 3 and it probably won't be as bad as I feel like it is.
*00:02*
And so for some reason I was like, no, those games I played in the, you know, as a kid and young adult, those will always probably be the fixtures of my top ten or whatever.
*00:02*
Like, yeah, I want to play another God of War game, but maybe I'd like to know it's called God of War Cairo.
*00:02*
And so it's not really fresh in my mind, and I'm not really obviously I could go back and play it, let's but I don't look up the YouTube summary video.
*00:02*
I I don't want the I don't want everybody to I don't want the company to go out of business and everybody to lose their jobs, but like if this game doesn't pan out in the way that I like that will have been
*00:02*
I just like shiny new hardware and toys and I don't think
*00:02*
I did rank them.
*00:02*
Um that was so fun.
*00:02*
Obviously chasing the stick and digging deep into the story development of this game.
*00:02*
They're Japanese advanced games.
*00:02*
And really, what solidified me keeping this on here is a development within the past day.
*00:02*
Let's go!
*00:02*
A lot of those games are still good.
*00:02*
All of this is to say, like, I think Holst, who is now really running the show, there's another co-CEO or somebody.
*00:02*
Even Twisted Metal, I think, is getting a second season.
*00:02*
Like those things are cool, but I don't know, it's taking too long, man.
*00:02*
A Zelda game came out the day we're recording.
*00:02*
Like just that sort of feedback I get whenever we've written about that game over the past few years, it's kind of the things I was saying before.
*00:02*
R.
*00:02*
I was gonna say it wasn't even that bad, but no, it wasn't great.
*00:02*
I do appreciate that you can do that.
*00:02*
Just the regular controller.
*00:02*
Because I don't remember it all.
*00:02*
Because it's like, well, I objectively think this is the best game of the bunch.
*00:02*
I'm glad we agree.
*00:02*
My number 10 is mentioned it before.
*00:02*
My list that I am doing here is very much off of how I feel right now, obviously.
*00:02*
So alphabetically my next one is the one that I'm it doesn't feel right.
*00:02*
It's so stupid beautiful.
*00:02*
It duh already has confirmed PS5 Pro support, which just like has me super giddy.
*00:02*
Um, but I think Dark Souls is the most like cohesive best game they've made
*00:02*
It's an achievement.
*00:02*
Amorphous platformer game here.
*00:02*
It will.
*00:02*
Ghost of Tsushima was really a a Ubisoft game with a prettier coat of paint.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
Okay.
*00:02*
Fantastic from start to finish.
*00:02*
But when I really turned my brain off and tried to just think, favorite game from this company, favorite one, go.
*00:02*
And I met the people who made this game in PAX one year.
*00:02*
I still think it's Nintendo's best game they've ever made.
*00:02*
And then the axe still maybe just the best mechanic in a game ever?
*00:02*
I think I think in retrospect like you had guys like
*00:02*
It's Yeah, you
*00:02*
There's clearly a gun, some other weapons, so you know, that'll be fun to feel out, I guess, in my mind.
*00:02*
I.
*00:02*
We've now got all the Ratchet and Clint games, I believe, playable on PS5, which is really cool to me.
*00:02*
I that'll always be a game.
*00:02*
And I have to have a Smash representative on this list in some capacity.
*00:02*
I wish they would tap into that more.
*00:02*
I think this is on par with The Last of Us.
*00:02*
Very eager.
*00:02*
I mean, I know this is one of your favorite series.
*00:02*
Um so yeah, I like murder mysteries.
*00:02*
Yes, the Moby Dick Studios, the build up towards five, and then oh well we're actually the Phantom Pain, we're gonna
*00:02*
I yeah, man.
*00:02*
The price has never really dropped on it.
*00:02*
I've been I've been around it enough to kinda get a general vibe.
*00:02*
Yeah, so I bought the f I have it physically on PS5 and I platted it when I played that.
*00:02*
It's Bioshock.
*00:02*
I mean it is a Bioshock game, but it's not a Bioshock game.
*00:02*
I bought a PlayStation 5 Pro.
*00:02*
Or what heads are gonna roll there?
*00:02*
This includes fans who have added it.
*00:02*
This DLC seems like it's going to cross over with the DLC of control.
*00:02*
Goodbye.
*00:02*
I I do feel like Resident Evil feeding.
*00:02*
They probably were on my DS generation list.
*00:02*
I feel like it stands alone in so many ways.
*00:02*
And until next time, adios.
*00:02*
Now you can glide.
*00:02*
It's like a nine point something, whereas critics are like at an 84 or 83 maybe overall aggregate score.
*00:02*
But if you could if if you are supposed to take out X amount of villains
*00:02*
Probably.
*00:02*
Not that we need to talk too much too long about that one, but it's very funny that that game had this big falling out and
*00:02*
P.
*00:02*
This would be number three in a row.
*00:02*
Like, do I want one?
*00:02*
And like, is that still like I don't know, have those sort of conversations with myself.
*00:02*
Smash Ultimate Deluxe, probably.
*00:02*
So I'm gonna skip this next one and I'm gonna go to speaking of our podcast, the Resident Evil 3 remake.
*00:02*
You know, I love actually a lot of the Resident Evil games now, which were games I had never played before when we did this list the first time.
*00:02*
I think I said last year during our episode that I think four remake is my favorite.
*00:02*
Because I feel like the moment I play it, immediately afterwards, they'll be like, oh, actually, here's this.
*00:02*
It's interesting.
*00:02*
This is in some sense this was hard because there's about five games competing for this spot
*00:02*
And then I decided to boot Bloodborne off.
*00:02*
Will I reference it?
*00:02*
Like, I'll plat this again.
*00:02*
Lay down in bed and play it on a non-Nintendo device.
*00:02*
Atreus goes to college.
*00:02*
Yeah.
*00:02*
Um I don't know.
*00:02*
Yeah, not Marvel Spider-Man 2.
*00:02*
Brawl is the one I have the most fond memories of growing up playing with my friends.
*00:02*
And now on the PS5 versions of the game, you can play it like 60 FPS buttered smooth, just beautiful with ray traces.
*00:02*
Oh two two.
*00:02*
So you can play that version of it.
*00:02*
Everyone everyone out here is like, the reason to buy a PS5 Pro is Grand Theft Auto Six.
*00:02*
It is the one that I feel like I would like the most based off what I know.
*00:02*
They are reprinting it, so like if you wanted to wait for a full physical, you could.
*00:02*
That will be the collector's item, right?
*00:02*
This time, I was only missing one seed out of the 50.
*00:02*
All right, Max.
*00:02*
A 3D mascot platformer.
*00:02*
I know you guys are capable.
*00:02*
It was fun to revisit the history.
*00:02*
Until recently I was I was getting you on a podcast that I was running for a hot minute there semi frequently because I needed last minute guests and I was just like, hey what are you doing?
*00:02*
I would It makes me less excited about the future.
*00:02*
Um unless you already own it digitally, I suppose.
*00:02*
Maybe you gotta wait for the pro though.
*00:02*
Yeah, I don't like the look of it.
*00:02*
So there was no way to actually be in any sort of real line.
*00:02*
Um but you know, uh the odds of getting one he y yesterday, knowing the situation going in.
*00:02*
It's the back of the alphabet and it's one of the two games from last time's list.
*00:02*
So it is truly like that.
*00:02*
I have still enjoyed them just as much now when we played through them for our show as I did when I was a kid.
*00:02*
It's uh part of why it didn't make it on my list is because of my number eight though.
*00:02*
I I think this is Remedy's best game.
*00:02*
Had to have a representative of it here.
*00:02*
Like, hey man, I played Metal Gear Survive.
*00:02*
That that whole game itself not the best port of things.
*00:02*
You've explained the lore recently.
*00:02*
We'll see what happens.
*00:02*
But yes, I have I have the version without the DLC on the disc.
*00:02*
It's fun, charming.
*00:02*
I probably was working on it at the time.
*00:02*
That has been so long.
*00:02*
Oh, you know, or I'm gonna trap these people in here now, even though they're trying to surrender and we've lost this game.
*00:02*
I'm your host, Max Robertson.
*00:02*
I it's bad, but it's not.
*00:02*
Clearly this was supposed to come out somewhat close to the TV show and
*00:02*
In the words of Justin Timberlake.
*00:02*
That's three.
*00:02*
Um, but yeah, it's good for Sony.
*00:02*
And that was a complete debacle because PlayStation Direct servers were slammed from like six in the morning
*00:02*
I'm kind of tempted by it, but I I definitely went portal was my thought process.
*00:02*
I yeah, I mean I'm I have stuff I'm selling for for the pro and the portal.
*00:02*
So we're just going deeper into this, closer to a PC market in that sense of like different range of settings and visuals.
*00:02*
Like seeing people in the press go hands-on with it this week, I was like, I would really like to get a hold of this and play it at home.
*00:02*
So this is what I had in mind for this evening.
*00:02*
Yeah, I I know how I will.
*00:02*
Because people now are just like, oh, I wish we could go back to 2020 when all I did was play games.
*00:02*
Because I think I after doing our whole Pokemon season, those games mean a lot to me.
*00:02*
That game is so much fun.
*00:02*
They're just like, oh hey, here it is.
*00:02*
Next year, I mean that game doesn't have a release date yet, but next year is looking crazy.
*00:02*
Last couple things call out.
*00:02*
I think t I think two or three of those toward the end there were very PlayStation focused.
*00:02*
I guess that's another thing.
*00:02*
Is that what the end of the game is?
*00:02*
I know how this game goes.
*00:02*
So yeah, like we know what Insomniac's up to.
*00:02*
It is a very stylish game, dripping in style.
*00:02*
So like that studio is doing its job.
*00:02*
Let's make these games more intricately tied together, both in title and presentation.
*00:02*
ready at dawn.
*00:02*
And that's kind of the one other thing I wanted to talk to you about here that kind of segues into the final thing that I mentioned I wanted to bring up here, which is just
*00:02*
And that that box packaging and that gray color scheme is just too beautiful.
*00:02*
Are you embarrassed by yours?
*00:02*
I think I don't even think that was ported over to PS4 yet at the time.
*00:02*
4 was Metal Gear Solid 3.
*00:02*
And then uh I just completely failed to like put these in uh an actual ranking order, and I just have them in alphabetical order.
*00:02*
Concord.
*00:02*
Okay.
*00:02*
Now, Wind Waker HD or who the eventual s HD port that will be brought to Switch or Switch 2.
*00:02*
Obviously the story it being a sequel and tying so heavily into the events of the first game I know play a part, but like
*00:02*
Okay.
*00:02*
Retroactively, even better.
*00:02*
Persona 5 came out on the PS3.
*00:02*
It'll take me so long to beat.
*00:02*
Dude, I don't care.
*00:02*
It's from Javid Starrit and Goodblood, but it's over on the second wind YouTube channel.
*00:02*
Someone needs to go finish Metroid Prime 2 Echoes.
*00:02*
And then like they had Layden come in, you know, and I feel like Layden really understood the community.
*00:03*
Put it to PC, polish some things up, make them closer together.
*00:03*
It would have been on the pro.
*00:03*
I just I truly do not even know what kind of games these are.
*00:03*
And I was like, what?
*00:03*
If you want to try to rank them on the fly you can.
*00:03*
Not to, you know, dig too deep it here.
*00:03*
But you can't you can't forget Bowser's Fury.
*00:03*
That patch actually looks really good.
*00:03*
And when you especially when you go for the umbrella only run, there's just nothing that feels so good as like killing the boss with the weaker weapon.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Like an actual conclusion.
*00:03*
Unless they're really trying to chase Game of the Year awards or something like that, assuming I guess that GTA itself wouldn't win them.
*00:03*
So I assume at some point it was also a PS Plus game.
*00:03*
Oh, I thought that was a Xbox reference.
*00:03*
So it matters where you were in this virtual line when the line paused.
*00:03*
Um those were never rare.
*00:03*
Pretty much.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
So I think like all of that wrapped up into the game is why it becomes my naughty dog representative as you so put it.
*00:03*
It should have won game of the year.
*00:03*
They still update it like annual or monthly with like new like I don't know
*00:03*
Like, I I that's the thing I that I've come to realize with the persona games the longer I've played them, is there's so much talk anytime you're trying to get anybody into these games of like
*00:03*
I just I think if you say he's a Greek, he was a Greek god, son of Zeus, killed his dad.
*00:03*
Yes.
*00:03*
Sure.
*00:03*
It's just it's a new place in Japan, new samurai, it's not gin.
*00:03*
Do you have a doggy that you get to send off?
*00:03*
Like there is not a there is not a yearning from the people for horizon that I can tell.
*00:03*
Like that's also kind of one that's like, why are we getting this?
*00:03*
You reviewed the portal?
*00:03*
And the hype cycle.
*00:03*
I did.
*00:03*
And that doesn't that doesn't.
*00:03*
But I feel like you have to think back though.
*00:03*
Uh it's very great.
*00:03*
That the survival aspect of the game is one of the more interesting and satisfying.
*00:03*
And there's been 20 or 30 years of game development that have come after this, um, that have expanded upon a lot of the ideas presented here, but I still think it holds up
*00:03*
But full stop.
*00:03*
Oh, February next year alone is like huge.
*00:03*
So like, switch two will launch, so that's gonna bring Yep, yep, yep.
*00:03*
I don't know how to explain this.
*00:03*
Uh so go check out that show.
*00:03*
And if I remember correctly, Jim Ryan has a very similar background.
*00:03*
I don't know, but I feel like Sony has kind of brewed their own perfect storm of just
*00:03*
It's a it is a whatever thing.
*00:03*
It's interesting that the 30th anniversary stuff is like two, three weeks after the PS5 Pro.
*00:03*
That's a great version too, because not only can you play it the original way, but you can play it as God intended in VR as well.
*00:03*
Uh I'll have to double check that I guess.
*00:03*
Red Dead T Yeah, I mean I said it before.
*00:03*
Came out in 2017.
*00:03*
There's an episode about this.
*00:03*
Oh my gosh.
*00:03*
Uh that made my honorable mentions.
*00:03*
So it's a beauti it is a s it is graphically a beautiful game.
*00:03*
Was I love Sekiro, but I don't think I'm ever gonna say Sekiro is my favorite game ever.
*00:03*
I feel like I'm falling into the trap of it's not prestigious enough.
*00:03*
And I'm excited to see what PlayDead cooks up next.
*00:03*
I cannot wait for it.
*00:03*
That's not a surprise.
*00:03*
Um, Allen Wake 2 is getting control DLC is what I could tell from it.
*00:03*
I don't want my Dragon Age to look like that.
*00:03*
So I get the regular controller yesterday.
*00:03*
Like I know you talked about like Digital Foundry sold you on it.
*00:03*
What's what's really funny is is in all these the press just got hands on with the PS5 Pro, I think be
*00:03*
And it's mainly just because I have played it one time when I was twelve, maybe.
*00:03*
Sure.
*00:03*
Uh so yeah, I could totally see that.
*00:03*
So I like it.
*00:03*
Sure.
*00:03*
Or 2D too, I guess.
*00:03*
The Switch you would have touch controls.
*00:03*
Depends on the mood.
*00:03*
Astroboy Astrobot, honestly.
*00:03*
Witcher's fine.
*00:03*
I'm just set aside to accept it after all these years.
*00:03*
Analog pockets.
*00:03*
Okay, so that show is in trouble, but they have a big vision for Horizon.
*00:03*
And they have slowly stepped foot in this direction.
*00:03*
Maybe there wasn't anything else.
*00:03*
It was Hitman 3 was PS1 PS or PSVR1.
*00:03*
I feel like that sets things up to, you know, if that's arrived, why not Sly 2 eventually?
*00:03*
Another year where I but I stayed inside a little more than normal.
*00:03*
I watched that movie for the first time the other night, just to throw that out there.
*00:03*
Yeah, this was really the what contributed to punting Kotor off my list.
*00:03*
There's just charm, style, the music, the world, all of it.
*00:03*
Don't let people hate it.
*00:03*
I want something I know that studio is talented.
*00:03*
Yeah, like I don't know.
*00:03*
I'm more obviously excited for Judas than Bioshock Antarctica because Ken Levine is doing Judas.
*00:03*
And they'll be in your podcast player as well.
*00:03*
They're gonna they're gonna they're gonna realize that they'll launch within four weeks of GTA 6 and they'll say no thank you.
*00:03*
Like Dead Rising makes sense where it's like, okay, we haven't had to.
*00:03*
It what are you gonna do?
*00:03*
You have to like specifically go out of your way to make sure you are getting these things that the console can do.
*00:03*
The price is a huge deterrent.
*00:03*
You know, I'm still trying to make sure that I play Red Red 2 before Dead Rising.
*00:03*
Rockstar has all these resources at their disposal and they're like, let's remaster these three GTA games.
*00:03*
Yeah.
*00:03*
It's so good.
*00:03*
Um that Royal here, I obviously that's the expanded version, so we put that.
*00:03*
I guess it's a good episode.
*00:03*
And it it is this Javid story about figuring out why people talk about outer wilds the way I'm talking about it now.
*00:03*
Okay, my number three.
*00:03*
Like I do think it helps to know like he was a Greek god and like came from that into a Norse pantheon.
*00:03*
God, in the sequel.
*00:03*
Like he under he was like the perfect encapsulation, I feel like, of what PlayStation was and needed to be, not only when he was at the helm, but for the first, you know
*00:03*
That would Well she has a gun in the final shot.
*00:03*
It had probably some support for that.
*00:03*
How do you remember anything from from it?
*00:03*
Bioware needs kind of a slam dunk right now.
*00:03*
And uh I did go ahead and pre-order a PS5 Pro.
*00:03*
Hopefully.
*00:03*
And I I love it for that.
*00:03*
It is Red Dead Redemption 2 is a is a is a good game.
*00:03*
I don't feel like it's that long.
*00:03*
Yeah, they played them all in succession.
*00:03*
I mean it North American release stuff than me.
*00:03*
Not dancing.
*00:03*
Actually, they all kind of do.
*00:03*
Like we were talking about 3D Zeldas.
*00:03*
And I would do the same thing.
*00:03*
See, so yeah, I'm sh I'm struggling a little bit.
*00:03*
I just think the idea I I love the idea of that game, right?
*00:03*
A pre-switch.
*00:03*
Like he was really the the best, like leader they've had within
*00:03*
So now you've just got this standalone thing.
*00:03*
So if you're only just now getting into PlayStation, then you don't own it.
*00:03*
So I don't think it looks I don't think this game looks bad though, other than the visual complaints I guess I had.
*00:03*
You can do these tasks and yeah, there's these promotions and that sort of thing.
*00:03*
Like it it actually came out at the perfect time before GT Online would have, I think
*00:03*
Very slow burn.
*00:03*
Play whatever version you want.
*00:03*
It's still the best.
*00:03*
That's because I bought a copy from you.
*00:03*
Celeste, Donkey Kong Country, Tropical Freeze, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Bros.
*00:03*
They original interviews were like, we want them on lunchboxes.
*00:03*
Pretty sure it's Bioshock.
*00:03*
And I don't think it's recency bias either.
*00:03*
And he's like, I'm writing Kingdom Hearts for or creating it with the idea of it like basically being the beginning of the end.
*00:03*
Yeah, we're old we're old fogies now, and uh we have a lot to wrestle with here.
*00:03*
Um I think the problem with the Nishino.
*00:03*
Here's a hundred shrines around like don't do exactly that.
*00:03*
Okay.
*00:03*
That would be my guess.
*00:03*
Where's our PS5 Pro patch?
*00:03*
Yes, and I haven't acquired one yet, but I feel like it'll be there.
*00:03*
Default answer.
*00:03*
So before I get started, I had two things I wanted to say just about my list, which is this time around.
*00:03*
Sure.
*00:03*
I loved it.
*00:03*
Or maybe I don't because they're dropping the ball so hard.
*00:03*
I'm very excited to get my copy here in October.
*00:03*
But really they they are stories for the most part.
*00:03*
Really, out of all the remaining games, I feel like the only one that has come close to capturing this is the Great Ace of Turn Chronicles, which are the
*00:03*
Or actually, I can't say that.
*00:03*
I did that.
*00:03*
It's really funny to look back on that and think about it now and like, oh, huh, that's interesting.
*00:03*
It might still be on Game Pass, but I don't think you have Game Pass.
*00:03*
Like birth by Sunday would totally be on this list.
*00:03*
Unfortunately.
*00:03*
They hate the fans.
*00:03*
And so that's I hold to that here pretty actually I do hold to that.
*00:03*
I love that.
*00:03*
Capcom, please.
*00:03*
They all intertwines so well with one another.
*00:03*
And I just think this this structure here with Odyssey works way better.
*00:03*
I mean, I don't know if that's not Metal Gear.
*00:03*
And it is so phenomenal.
*00:03*
And this is one that will hold.
*00:03*
Yes.
*00:03*
The music, gameplay, all of it.
*00:03*
The community is so far gone.
*00:03*
I remember you telling me about that.
*00:03*
Like if they could just cut out that last level, be like, oh, perfect, perfect game.
*00:03*
Yeah, so mine were, I don't remember what my honorable mentions were.
*00:03*
No, I don't have like a solid But Leah, like yeah, like I know roughly like these are closer to the top, these are closer to the bottom.
*00:03*
Alright, I'm gonna start Do you want you want me to start at the front of the alphabet or the back of the alphabet?
*00:03*
So there you go.
*00:03*
Um this next one's hard for me.
*00:03*
Let's let's uh give Jill the respect she deserves
*00:03*
Um I was gonna wait.
*00:03*
Um, you want some pancakes?
*00:03*
Great twists.
*00:03*
Death Stranding?
*00:03*
Um yeah they are.
*00:03*
And I I won't say much, because that's part of the rules with outer wilds.
*00:03*
It has the difficult challenge of combat, but you're never kind of like what you were saying with Sakuro, it's never the game's fault.
*00:03*
Yeah, and it was sold out.
*00:03*
And this is the dichotomy of all League of Legends players.
*00:03*
And I hate it.
*00:03*
But yeah, then they keep making all these decisions like, you know, what is starting our hole?
*00:04*
He's got two first names, is is how his name is.
*00:04*
Yote, I think it is.
*00:04*
And a lot of it is remakes or remasters or ports or things like that, but it is still like
*00:04*
And I am drowning in games to play.
*00:04*
I went and watched it in Japanese today, and it immediately made it cooler and better.
*00:04*
Right.
*00:04*
Like that's just too much.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
Like we're we're still not even fully unshackled from last gen yet.
*00:04*
Those two weeks will live forever.
*00:04*
Um number seven for me
*00:04*
I was w I was wondering if this would make your list.
*00:04*
It feels very strange at times.
*00:04*
Okay.
*00:04*
I I think based off what I've played of Tears of the Kingdom, like I just think naturally Tears of the Kingdom would trump
*00:04*
The show is still in production.
*00:04*
I mean there has been obviously, you know, your God of War Ragnaroks and your Forbidden West and your Spider-Man 2s.
*00:04*
When I dug into that whole thing, it's clear the positivity angles also baked in Improbably Monsters.
*00:04*
Um and I don't know, maybe I think we I feel like we still know a lot of what they're doing.
*00:04*
It's not surprising.
*00:04*
People were like, oh this sucks.
*00:04*
And not only that, but just like I mean, yes, there's, you know
*00:04*
That game, you can rip through it.
*00:04*
From the biggest studio in the world, it l certainly from a financial perspective.
*00:04*
It's like they could have they have the resources and the talent within to churn up a little small team to work on these sorts.
*00:04*
On the portal.
*00:04*
It's not next alphabetically, but it is after that.
*00:04*
Here you go.
*00:04*
Every year I want to play this game.
*00:04*
Is everything that I loathe about League of Legends is so easy to become yourself.
*00:04*
I d I don't want to go down a rabbit hole with this because I know it's a long one.
*00:04*
Yeah, we did that for a few years with Talk Game News.
*00:04*
Like this looks great.
*00:04*
They've allowed the studios to be pretty tight lipped
*00:04*
Truly R.
*00:04*
I'm very torn on this game because I like this series a lot.
*00:04*
I know you've got your misters and things or something.
*00:04*
I did want to ask you before we jumped into our top tens.
*00:04*
Yeah, I reviewed the portal.
*00:04*
Okay.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
Now, pretty much dead to me.
*00:04*
It is a huge, massive open world game dedicated down to the the tiniest of details to capture
*00:04*
What can I say?
*00:04*
And I hope they don't screw it up.
*00:04*
I don't know.
*00:04*
I mean it from like $30 to $40 price range.
*00:04*
Okay, so there's there's oh no, League of Legends is gonna be on this list.
*00:04*
Yeah, it is truly an achievement.
*00:04*
No, it's really not at all.
*00:04*
But there is a save system in the game where you can save
*00:04*
It's a good good idea.
*00:04*
We'll probably see that come back in some capacity here when we talk about the sequel, but
*00:04*
They need something really big here.
*00:04*
I want to know.
*00:04*
So I I you even mentioned it a little bit earlier.
*00:04*
So all right.
*00:04*
Spider-Man 2 the movie game from like 2004.
*00:04*
Um but like Red Dead 2.
*00:04*
From Japan in September.
*00:04*
Don't think about the ending.
*00:04*
Two two.
*00:04*
And one of my favorite memories forever will be going to the world finals in San Francisco.
*00:04*
I have no doubt I love it still.
*00:04*
com and for myself you could check out uh my writing over at maxfrequency.
*00:04*
The demand was so high, and the PS5 has sold incredibly well.
*00:04*
And I think decisions were made, balls were rolled, and uh
*00:04*
Like I think the one of the directors has already left, I saw.
*00:04*
I know Yeah.
*00:04*
That makes more sense.
*00:04*
The only people only like copies that don't count digitally
*00:04*
Um, you know, whatever.
*00:04*
But why did they have to bundle it with the edge to chalk up the price another three hundred dollars?
*00:04*
Uh a pre ultimate world that we were living in there.
*00:04*
Like, oh hey, Smash never dies.
*00:04*
And this is a part of that story.
*00:04*
This is where it got a little difficult.
*00:04*
It's evocative.
*00:04*
This game was the one that spoke to me the most when I was a a teen.
*00:04*
It was still NX.
*00:04*
I have the honor and privilege of being joined by Logan Moore.
*00:04*
Kind of this arc of bouncing back and forth.
*00:04*
I mean the decisions are still kind of looming.
*00:04*
I'm a part of the problem, I guess.
*00:04*
Presumably Santa Monica also has another God of War game in development on some capacity.
*00:04*
You know, I do feel like this samurai Japanese stuff is ha having a bit of moment in media as well between
*00:04*
There's a Netflix series, which I think is on ice or something.
*00:04*
Like there are which I get that that's a different type of gameplay experience and stuff like that.
*00:04*
Oh wait, we doesn't need one because it's still gorgeous.
*00:04*
Play Dead Space Remake.
*00:04*
So that's the first one, and then that segues into this remaster, which is the next two entries in the series.
*00:04*
I've never played these games.
*00:04*
Still love these games.
*00:04*
At least that's about in the GTA trilogy package, so Yeah, but like
*00:04*
Okay, my number for Flequad I really want to replay those games very
*00:04*
Because I played some of the Uncharted games when I replayed them, I was like, I think there's something over here, and I think there's one over here, and like I w
*00:04*
Like it contextualizes everything that you need to know.
*00:04*
Yeah, I'm gotta wear 2018 is a great, great game.
*00:04*
Inside, I'd even debated Insight again.
*00:04*
But pre-Switch.
*00:04*
But Tim is not outspoken like Steve was, not inherently like the hands-on visionary product
*00:04*
Yotai.
*00:04*
That is a really bad name now that I think about it.
*00:04*
All right.
*00:04*
And it's hard to justify it sometimes between, you know, trying to play things for our show and then day job and then
*00:04*
If you were ever to show anybody a single game Naughty Dog has ever made, I think even you would agree, like, oh, first of all.
*00:04*
That was a great sin.
*00:04*
Like yes, it does tie into the larger series and there's all these crazy threads and it's Kojima and it's Metal Gear and Crazy Story Arcs and But it's the first one and it's
*00:04*
So Outer Wilds.
*00:04*
I I yeah.
*00:04*
Eight years.
*00:04*
Does mean that the solar still plan for this I thought it was this?
*00:04*
I still want to do that.
*00:04*
And the other piece of the pie here
*00:04*
Shogun.
*00:04*
So it'll be cool to see how this actually pans out when it arrives on PS5 in 2025.
*00:04*
That's weird.
*00:04*
One game in a series were
*00:04*
That was a fantastic little party weekend there that we had for that game.
*00:04*
So let me ask this.
*00:04*
And Kotor was number three on my previous list.
*00:04*
And so that's what You're saying is keeping the end of Resident Evil 6 where Troy Baker tosses an apple isn't your uh That's pretty good.
*00:04*
It came out the same year as Breath of the Wild?
*00:04*
I like it.
*00:04*
He didn't replace him.
*00:04*
Like that's gonna be the thing.
*00:04*
Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clink, Jack and Dexter.
*00:04*
I originally I've written down Sly Cooper 2, and that truly is one of my favorite games of all time.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
But yeah.
*00:04*
And I think he's too big of a proponent and he's probably too pro
*00:04*
I know like the other playable characters and the villains and who's the ultimate final boss and those sorts of things.
*00:04*
Um Yeah, I don't know.
*00:04*
But now, you know, three or four years later they're like, well yeah, heck yeah, remaster, let's do it.
*00:04*
They're finally just burning VR to the PS5 and PSVR2.
*00:04*
I I totally agree.
*00:04*
Um so I I definitely want it because of that.
*00:04*
Fingers crossed.
*00:04*
I just I wanted to just I wanted to force myself to pick one, pick a favorite child.
*00:04*
So this is can you confirm this is the naughty dog representative?
*00:04*
It's a fantastic game in its own right.
*00:04*
I'm I'm excited for you to get into those games eventually here.
*00:04*
Like you could beat it in a week probably.
*00:04*
That game is two games.
*00:04*
Um, or I could just go buy the physical version of it like you did.
*00:04*
I would just recommend 2018.
*00:04*
It's a game I get, right?
*00:04*
It's okay.
*00:04*
Like Twisted Metal did surprisingly well, yeah.
*00:04*
That's exactly what I was about to say.
*00:04*
Now.
*00:04*
It's it looks I don't even know how to
*00:04*
Um so it's just more enticing for scalpers, quite honestly.
*00:04*
Um, and I think it gets that title for the right reasons.
*00:04*
And I think if that had been a known quantity up front, I think Red Dead 2 would look a lot different.
*00:04*
This, I will say, this is the number one reason why I'm excited about Switch 2.
*00:04*
I definitely didn't do that one.
*00:04*
This is my favorite from soft game.
*00:04*
Man, maybe a little smaller.
*00:04*
I Arkham Knight.
*00:04*
Yep.
*00:04*
Four would be mass effect, and that would be what would be bothering me.
*00:04*
I thought there was a third one.
*00:04*
Oh your meta quest three, not a little bit.
*00:04*
I'm curious though, job aside
*00:04*
July 3rd was when we recorded it, but July 4th when it came out.
*00:04*
I know that'd be an undertaking, but I feel like we we've talked before about like ending that show.
*00:04*
I'll say this.
*00:04*
I don't really like the 2D ones as well, though, so that's just
*00:04*
I think I knew that they had their roots on game one, but you could also it's one of the most ported series when you actually look at its history.
*00:04*
Isn't that crazy sentence to say?
*00:04*
It's awesome.
*00:04*
The thing that I love about
*00:04*
I have extreme fondness for this game, and I still think the game is fantastic today.
*00:04*
It was just like wit big Witcher brain.
*00:04*
It's not surprising.
*00:04*
Not that I would replay him before that, but I don't know.
*00:04*
Like 360 days.
*00:04*
Yeah, I know.
*00:04*
Like I would I wouldn't say that look too at your list.
*00:04*
Like Journey I threw on and was like, I can't believe I didn't mention this.
*00:04*
Uh Jill Valentine for the win.
*00:04*
And six even more so to a degree.
*00:04*
Remedy's always been one of my favorite studios.
*00:04*
Get trophies.
*00:04*
That's all I gotta say.
*00:04*
With Scott White.
*00:04*
You could of course dig up a three DS to play the three DS version of Metal Gear Solid 3.
*00:04*
Let's oh my goodness.
*00:04*
It is from friend of the show, I can say that, Javid Starrett.
*00:04*
Like those that world of Spider-Man that like Insomniac has created feels like it has just gone through
*00:04*
com where you write about review PlayStation hardware, you write your hot opinions and video game news of the like.
*00:04*
Uh little yellow handheld with a crank on it.
*00:04*
This is, oh my gosh, this is exactly what we want.
*00:04*
And their TV stuff with video games has been.
*00:04*
We still don't know what Sony Santa Monica is doing.
*00:04*
They're remastering like Shadows of the Damned.
*00:04*
I.
*00:04*
You can just buy them.
*00:04*
So there's not much reason for me to think they'll be rare this time around, assuming they do a similar thing here.
*00:04*
How do you feel about the Pro from a cons the PS5 Pro from a consumer's perspective?
*00:04*
I imagine whatever they're promoting will have patches ready for review cycle stuff, I would assume.
*00:04*
Do I think this is the best game Naughty Dogs made?
*00:04*
I think Knights of the Old Republic really is the best example of the whole like
*00:04*
I do bring Jill back, really.
*00:04*
I really do.
*00:04*
The more sort of open-endedness of the level structure.
*00:04*
It is quite enjoyable.
*00:04*
Which version?
*00:04*
Um Yeah.
*00:04*
Oh, I uh it's gonna take me forever to finish this game.
*00:04*
And that's just kind of it.
*00:04*
Alright.
*00:04*
Um I mean, in the sense that, you know
*00:04*
And so I highly recommend that for more about Adam Wilds.
*00:04*
Depends on the mood.
*00:04*
So I struggle.
*00:04*
I would like a break.
*00:04*
Yeah.
*00:04*
2019 is when he took over.
*00:05*
It's so, or you get a Fallout 4 situation where it's like, and it's out in six months or four months or whatever that was.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Usually PC stuff it's just like let's push out an update and it changes the version.
*00:05*
It starts with the V.
*00:05*
Legacy of Kane 1 and 2.
*00:05*
The TV, me having a top-of-the-line TV that has just come out within, you know, the past 12 months.
*00:05*
I I'm embarrassed by a particular something that I've noticed I'm embarrassed by.
*00:05*
So what I'm gonna say is about my list.
*00:05*
Yes.
*00:05*
Uh I've one left at the very least.
*00:05*
I would like to play it again, but I also
*00:05*
Yes.
*00:05*
All right.
*00:05*
Do you have the platin?
*00:05*
I've pulled it up here and I don't think see anything, but I'll also poke around.
*00:05*
Think about that game all the time.
*00:05*
One of the coolest things I've ever been able to do.
*00:05*
So like, you know, I joke about Kingdom Hearts and its betrayal of me, but
*00:05*
I very much enjoyed revisiting and debating whether or not God of War should be number one or Bioshock should be number one.
*00:05*
But Yeah, and then it just seemed kind of like a fun millennial gaming speak uh
*00:05*
Arrowhead.
*00:05*
Yeah, well I've heard a lot of people say like, oh, this fall's not that strong, and I feel like you can make a case more for that now, especially like since the Assassin's Creed game got delayed.
*00:05*
Well, I don't either.
*00:05*
So of course Sony dolls out very beautiful hardware.
*00:05*
There's there's so many different like nuanced ways that you can
*00:05*
Allo Wake 2 sounds like my kind of game, and I want I the idea of this interconnected world of games.
*00:05*
I just I love Phoenix, right?
*00:05*
Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door.
*00:05*
Yeah, but I won't say
*00:05*
And it was the first time I played it in HD.
*00:05*
Well, I'll just run around for an hour and level up a bunch and come back and then we'll try it again.
*00:05*
It means a lot to me.
*00:05*
So I went back.
*00:05*
Y true.
*00:05*
It's so god, I don't part of me is like they dodged a bullet with that one.
*00:05*
Because like, you know, I'm a fan I'm sure
*00:05*
We just like went from Rome to American Revolution Wars, like here's some muskets now.
*00:05*
P.
*00:05*
Um but that game came out
*00:05*
I could still top ten.
*00:05*
Jeff Keeley.
*00:05*
Great build-up.
*00:05*
We've done a podcast about this very game and series.
*00:05*
But I think this one, I like the time period more.
*00:05*
The journey of just and now that you have twin snakes
*00:05*
Continuing the tradition of picking a game I've recently played.
*00:05*
I don't think so.
*00:05*
I wanted to get the trophies for I have it on Steam.
*00:05*
It's the legends.
*00:05*
But like Journey, Hotline Miami, like that's a great game, but
*00:05*
So yeah, Arkham City, I need I need to go back and play.
*00:05*
Like that's how good that game looks that game looks really good.
*00:05*
Uh Hades I thought of.
*00:05*
I mean when did Horizon when did Forbidden West launch?
*00:05*
Does the trailer really doesn't come out and say, I'm excited.
*00:05*
My top ten is Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, Uncharted Foot.
*00:05*
But when I think back to it really, it's the nostalgia pick.
*00:05*
It is so short.
*00:05*
Red Dead Redemption 2.
*00:05*
That's technically the last 3D Mario game.
*00:05*
So you have uh two Capcom reps on your list so far.
*00:05*
And um yeah, that was about it.
*00:05*
I was like, this is okay.
*00:05*
You're just saving all the time.
*00:05*
I should say I don't hate the game itself.
*00:05*
It's a seasonal retrospective podcast that bounces back and forth between a series exploring its evolution design and like
*00:05*
Our weekly gaming talk show that went for a hundred something episodes.
*00:05*
That'll be interesting.
*00:05*
That I'm not confident about.
*00:05*
It's gonna run on the pro pretty well apparently
*00:05*
I want more of my decisions to impact the story of this game.
*00:05*
It was just was not anything, really.
*00:05*
Depending on the game, obviously that's not true across the board.
*00:05*
Yeah, it was very recent.
*00:05*
I still love it so much and Smash is one of the best franchises after
*00:05*
I think their gate the gameplay is peak here.
*00:05*
Like that tie those three games right there, those would be the ones that I look to the most and rhythm.
*00:05*
At least the other DLC is on there for sure.
*00:05*
There's only three was there only three?
*00:05*
I will play Royal someday.
*00:05*
It got rid of the tech.
*00:05*
I've never replayed four.
*00:05*
I would do that if I were you.
*00:05*
Yeah, God of War, obviously the games beforehand, no slouch, right?
*00:05*
Um I'll tell you what mine are.
*00:05*
There's like ten games releasing in February now because Assassin's Creed just got pushed into it.
*00:05*
The more distance I get from those games, there's something that I don't like about them.
*00:05*
But we do we know what Insomniac's doing for the next decade, which I guess.
*00:05*
Whatever they just spun off that they're working on now.
*00:05*
Horizon Zero Dawn remastered the state of play, buddy.
*00:05*
I mean after Second Sun.
*00:05*
Same day as Dragon Age.
*00:05*
I do find it hilarious that they've bumped up the digital price so that you can't get it cheaper.
*00:05*
Have fun.
*00:05*
Uh you know, alongside all the other series they're giving good love too.
*00:05*
Um, one of them.
*00:05*
I think it came out the same month.
*00:05*
We're not gonna see Solid Snake in it, but could you imagine if you brought David Hader into Physant?
*00:05*
This these episodes could tell you, you know.
*00:05*
It's a good millennial gaming speak reunion.
*00:05*
A lot of a lot of stuff been raining this month lately.
*00:05*
There also have a film and television division, which helped create shows like Breaking Bad, or they own Spider-Man still.
*00:05*
They also own a pretty sizable chunk of single-player open world games that are praised quite well, often married all of that together.
*00:05*
But it's one of those things, right?
*00:05*
Like fair games, I watched the trailer the other day.
*00:05*
So I I don't really ever see anybody mention the legends content, even though that was obviously
*00:05*
So it's possible.
*00:05*
Well, it was Mass Effect Anthem, and I was counting
*00:05*
Yes.
*00:05*
And it's just like, okay.
*00:05*
And that is just it feels like an oxymoron almost.
*00:05*
Does that matter?
*00:05*
Uh I don't think I had delved into the 3DS titles at that time.
*00:05*
Um Spare me But you can play the one where Hitler's in it.
*00:05*
It's dead it's dead in the sense that like Konami does not seem
*00:05*
And I'm like, what is what is going on here?
*00:05*
I feel like I I almost feel obligated on some level, like, to have a platformer of some
*00:05*
Like you're asking about the future with the PS4 generation, I felt like I knew what to expect for a span of
*00:05*
Thanks, Zuck.
*00:05*
But I'm pretty sure that's the way it goes.
*00:05*
Well, I know what you ordered.
*00:05*
The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker HD.
*00:05*
Because if we do it before, I think it'll give away some things that you're thinking about.
*00:05*
Interesting.
*00:05*
It'll come to Switch 2.
*00:05*
I know you didn't number your list, but
*00:05*
And it's gonna be a little surprising, I think.
*00:05*
No.
*00:05*
Rockstar, can we please get uh sweet sweet sixty FPS patch?
*00:05*
Nothing really explosive or all that crazy happens at the ending.
*00:05*
I cannot wait for this remake.
*00:05*
It is a totally different character.
*00:05*
Okay.
*00:05*
Plague of Shadows, Spectre of Torment, King of Cards.
*00:05*
And it's so easy to
*00:05*
Ultim the one thing I will say, kind of in closing on my end.
*00:05*
And I'm like, we'll see, buddy.
*00:05*
Actually, the Breath of the Wild E3 would have just happened.
*00:05*
Like, it's really
*00:05*
Tim Cook was all uh
*00:05*
It's like what do you what else are you really supposed to do with him, you know?
*00:05*
Shogun.
*00:05*
Um, if it was just me trying to go buy one, I it would be different.
*00:05*
But is Journey my favorite?
*00:05*
Like I didn't hope to do anything.
*00:05*
And so Trials and Tribulations is the third game in the series.
*00:05*
So the Wii DS, they probably were in there.
*00:05*
Go check it out.
*00:05*
And then it feels like this is the series.
*00:05*
I still think it's the best sell the game ever made.
*00:05*
It is challenging, but not kick your teeth in challenging.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Open zones.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
Like he seemed to really understand the community and he has said some stuff in recent years that still kind of
*00:05*
But it is like drastically higher than what the like critics review is.
*00:05*
This is the bad time, bad time for harassment.
*00:05*
I don't remember the choices I've made.
*00:05*
Now let's talk about how things are bad with Sony.
*00:05*
The nostalgia tax is sitting in line for three hours and not getting what you truly want.
*00:05*
And maybe they felt like they would filter out a couple more people to
*00:05*
So those were my top 10, 4, 13 games of all time.
*00:05*
Yeah.
*00:05*
We'll keep things going, and I'll talk about this later.
*00:05*
I think that it is that good.
*00:05*
Cause like Red Dead 2 online I think is
*00:05*
One of my favorite series.
*00:05*
I really hope they don't screw it up.
*00:05*
I just think we have really had some f truly phenomenal games come out over the past eight years.
*00:05*
We had been like doing a running series of our top ten games of X generation.
*00:05*
Yote.
*00:05*
I it is uh
*00:05*
Yeah, they're uh yeah, action adventure games, they have platforming elements, I believe.
*00:05*
I would I would piecemeal buy all of these that I would want.
*00:05*
First to go back just really quick and say the embarrassing things that we said were our top ten games at the time.
*00:05*
3 was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.
*00:05*
Brawl every weekend in my friend's basement throughout high school?
*00:05*
And like I, you know, that might
*00:05*
I was so sad I couldn't put it on there.
*00:05*
Swamp 2, where is it?
*00:05*
It's definitely in that upper echelon, gun to gun to my head, pipe to my head in the basement of a hospital, breathing in spores.
*00:05*
It's six six
*00:05*
Just play it?
*00:05*
They just released it on Steam and they said the console versions are about to hit.
*00:05*
They're identical clones.
*00:05*
Shout out to the monkey boss.
*00:05*
Probably be like the one word I would use.
*00:05*
So I don't know.
*00:05*
Chapter Select will return.
*00:05*
It's good on him.
*00:05*
Ghost of Yote.
*00:05*
I didn't read the script.
*00:05*
I just played Plucky Squire.
*00:05*
I'm like his he he had a pretty definitive arc.
*00:05*
Obviously the third game which is in Works at Gorilla.
*00:05*
I mean, The Last of Us Part One is a remaster.
*00:05*
So I imagine there's some PS5 performance enhancements somewhere in there.
*00:05*
You know?
*00:05*
And like, I don't know.
*00:05*
I also worked on the game's guide, which
*00:05*
Sekiro is the one that rises to the top.
*00:05*
I had a press appointment to play it.
*00:05*
Like it's Bioshock.
*00:05*
He understood the Japanese market and he was out here.
*00:06*
Um, because that's really more or less what Ghost of Super
*00:06*
Veil Guard?
*00:06*
Um but they announced that they're bringing back Dino Crisis and then their w another one of their upcoming ports is actually the original Legacy of King game, the one on
*00:06*
And so you know, rest in peace Meverse integration, but that was awesome.
*00:06*
But The Legends Zelda Wind Waker.
*00:06*
And then we can put it to rest.
*00:06*
Because I think even you'll agree that cut like cohesively the first game is a better like start-to-finish, like complete package, just boom.
*00:06*
So maybe just leave this alone actually the more I think about it.
*00:06*
So everything comes together instead of certain things being standoff or alone or whatnot.
*00:06*
I forsake Kojima for some reason.
*00:06*
If I didn't do one per developer
*00:06*
That like they've had a very rough generation in terms of like business decisions that they have made.
*00:06*
He's like, look at these consoles we got.
*00:06*
Arrowhead.
*00:06*
I'm not, you know I guess I just like the idea of knowing what I'm waiting for instead of it just being this
*00:06*
It's one of the greatest games ever made.
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
I don't even know if they have to pay anything.
*00:06*
World of assassination
*00:06*
You can usually get the controllers if you want them.
*00:06*
Edge and the edge, right
*00:06*
They gotta have these matches ready to go.
*00:06*
Unprecedented.
*00:06*
Is that what you're doing?
*00:06*
This was the hardest thing for me with my top ten, is that upon, you know
*00:06*
No, intentionally.
*00:06*
You could.
*00:06*
Enjoy the beat-to-beat character stuff.
*00:06*
I I love this game so much, and you can feel yourself getting better at it.
*00:06*
So it'll just be a quirky little thing, probably more than anything.
*00:06*
Let me go to this too.
*00:06*
I love Arkham Knight.
*00:06*
Um you have to play on hard use the Vita chambers.
*00:06*
So yeah, that kind of era of games.
*00:06*
And so it's like this constant carrot that keeps getting pulled away.
*00:06*
It's just
*00:06*
Like this art style is definitely
*00:06*
Well and I think the other the other big thing for me when looking back at my list, my previous list was really comprised of
*00:06*
Still haven't played.
*00:06*
This was a this was a high point in a very stressful front half of a year.
*00:06*
Or I guess there's like secret stars or secret shines and some of the other games.
*00:06*
I really don't care.
*00:06*
Phoenix Ray Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations.
*00:06*
Even though I think it's a little bit more than a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit of a little bit
*00:06*
Um, where like what is my favorite and really tap into that and just choose the one that is my favorite.
*00:06*
I'm like, what's a native 4K60 on PS4?
*00:06*
I would probably preface it with like a
*00:06*
I I I'm I'm ready for Judas.
*00:06*
I love Doom Eternal.
*00:06*
I mean, drenched in it.
*00:06*
Like just bring the visuals up in line with the current.
*00:06*
But I'm wrong.
*00:06*
I wrote it.
*00:06*
Obviously I know you're like praise points of this game, but let me dig into this a bit more.
*00:06*
That has opened up the frame rate on that.
*00:06*
And there's key points for you to interact with and um
*00:06*
Do you watch it digitally?
*00:06*
And if the Metal Gear Snakey if the Snake Gear remake does well, you would imagine they'll then go
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
But that was just my first impression, yeah.
*00:06*
I have I have the platinum twice.
*00:06*
Like I naturally, without a guide, found them all again.
*00:06*
I don't want Kingdom Hearts on this list
*00:06*
I just want Mina the Hollower.
*00:06*
But I'm just like
*00:06*
Um and so yeah, but I think Bioshock does rise to the top.
*00:06*
The thing that could have done it this time obviously would have been like one of the newer games, but
*00:06*
Not a fan of that either.
*00:06*
And then uh Logan and I have our own podcast, which we are chipping away at.
*00:06*
They bought Jade Raymond Studio Haven when Google Stadia shut down.
*00:06*
Because like, look at
*00:06*
And I think part of that is is I was
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
And apparently there's a musical in it, so.
*00:06*
I wanted some representation around and trials and tribulations does stand the test of time.
*00:06*
I I there's some Oberdin here, so I think that would might help persuade you.
*00:06*
It depends on the day you ask me.
*00:06*
Every 3D Zelda is built off of the DNA and the blueprint that this game threw down.
*00:06*
King of Cards, I gave a ten out of ten.
*00:06*
I don't I don't like the characters.
*00:06*
Yeah, he took over right before the PS5 promotion and everything to come with it.
*00:06*
The thing that you mentioned that I want to
*00:06*
Like Ghost of Tsushima was probably
*00:06*
There may have been.
*00:06*
Or if you're Insomniac, I suppose eight to ten.
*00:06*
I don't even think we had talked about it.
*00:06*
And like this list is- I'm glad you're I'm glad we're starting with this as a talking point, because I wanted to bring this exact thing.
*00:06*
And I tried to this time
*00:06*
But this is really like this is what I'm talking about.
*00:06*
And I think more than anything
*00:06*
Speaking of RPGs from Japan.
*00:06*
I'm I'm fairly familiar with all the from software games because everyone
*00:06*
And it's not deviating that much from what it was previously, but
*00:06*
So I have it twice.
*00:06*
And then yeah, I've got other games written down here.
*00:06*
Shovel Knight Showdown.
*00:06*
What?
*00:06*
And it's a apparently it's an old meme according to know your meme.
*00:06*
And I have this image that just keeps growing this month.
*00:06*
Like everyone's favorite game.
*00:06*
And he rose up at the when it was it
*00:06*
Man, where is Wolverine?
*00:06*
Obviously, Sony loves Horizon a lot based off all of these
*00:06*
I'm I'm you know, I'm uh it it has an art style.
*00:06*
I've never really stopped to think about what I think about.
*00:06*
Um would I buy one myself?
*00:06*
It's time.
*00:06*
The spectacle.
*00:06*
Not only getting the game three days early and playing it from a mom and pop shop in total seclusion.
*00:06*
I feel like there's a reason the Hausers left
*00:06*
With Scott White.
*00:06*
I mean, yeah, that's like Metal Gear 5.
*00:06*
When I saw that appear in the montage trailer, I was like, oh
*00:06*
W what you beat it in two days?
*00:06*
It's I just think it has everything.
*00:06*
But I was like, is it my favorite though?
*00:06*
Um Mention Resident Evil.
*00:06*
Like not only, you know, when it comes to like
*00:06*
Like I've talked yeah recently to like to you guys that I think a lot's been made out about, you know, how this fall is not very strict.
*00:06*
Very breath of the wild.
*00:06*
Yeah, that obviously received super well.
*00:06*
And it was a with only twelve thousand eight hundred of these particular pro units.
*00:06*
Those were honorable mentions.
*00:06*
I'm gonna do the back of the alphabet because I think it makes for a more interesting conversation.
*00:06*
Okay.
*00:06*
Getting the platinum was one of the most fun things I had.
*00:06*
Alright, buddy.
*00:06*
Um I was wondering if this game would show up.
*00:06*
There's a little prequel energy to it.
*00:06*
It's you have to play them together though because of the way they are truly intimately tied together.
*00:06*
So let's just bunch this up.
*00:06*
I've truly never played a game like Outer Wild
*00:06*
Maybe an idea will come to me.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
What it's kind of like what we're getting with Naughty Dog to a degree.
*00:06*
Probably says about everything you need to know, right?
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
We've got Fair Games out there, which is supposed to be 2025, if I remember correctly.
*00:06*
I don't remember this list at all, but
*00:06*
Upgraded for this hardware somehow.
*00:06*
It's good stuff.
*00:06*
Or I guess these are all DS games, so No, they well the first three are actually Game Boy Advance games that were then ported to the DS.
*00:06*
But I'm just saying I guess in my mind now I'm like, man, you're a far larger fan of Capcom than I guess I would have, you know, pegged you for.
*00:06*
Um beautiful though.
*00:06*
I am confident in that.
*00:06*
I don't have Game Pass.
*00:06*
Yes.
*00:06*
They did the hard thing
*00:06*
For a hot second.
*00:06*
Get out of here, Tetsu and Mura.
*00:06*
But like how many things have been
*00:06*
Yeah, so I I want to see them, you know, not just rip off things like that, like
*00:06*
Like, oh, I must go out and take out these people who killed my parents, which would be very sucker punch.
*00:06*
But then you just gotta buy it physically.
*00:06*
So those folks cannot upgrade to the very uh Final Fantasy VII, it sounds like.
*00:06*
Thanks, Zucky Boy.
*00:06*
The no, it starts with a the Vail guard.
*00:06*
I've played all of these games, but it's also a direct
*00:06*
No, that's me saying they need a not just a slam dunk, they need a
*00:06*
I know.
*00:06*
I do appreciate that.
*00:06*
They could have could have bumped up the price, you know, that nostalgia tax.
*00:06*
I'm like, I smash is so
*00:06*
And different from most games.
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
But if you do this, then you'll be able to have sure certain Jedi abilities and stuff like that compared to, you know, something like Infamous, where it's like
*00:06*
I had to get some representation from them on this list.
*00:06*
Ooh.
*00:06*
I think what really helps this one and why I
*00:06*
Like it's not really open world, but it kind of is, and it just has these like
*00:06*
GTA six.
*00:06*
So this seems like it's going to be like
*00:06*
They're all over the place.
*00:06*
That's exactly the way I was gonna frame this, because I wanted to ask you, I wanted to specifically ask you about this.
*00:06*
The ones that they made
*00:06*
TV with modern gaming specifications.
*00:06*
Sure.
*00:06*
Yeah, g out of this list
*00:06*
Get out of here, Kratos.
*00:06*
And I love, you know, one of my favorite board games is Clue.
*00:06*
I'm just saying that's
*00:06*
I'll take what I can get.
*00:06*
I agree with you.
*00:06*
Uh runs 1440 P60 on PS5 or actually
*00:06*
Okay.
*00:06*
I love Insight.
*00:06*
Uh space game.
*00:06*
Like I get why
*00:06*
Still.
*00:06*
Every single year I want to play this game again.
*00:06*
We are
*00:06*
And not just Concord, but Concord is certainly the biggest example of this.
*00:06*
I know exactly who you're talking about.
*00:06*
Obviously, Polyphony is going to be working on Grant Thurismo for the rest of Jen.
*00:06*
That could just be reading into the key art too much.
*00:06*
I don't know.
*00:06*
And we kind of seem to that kind of tracks based on just our little group.
*00:06*
Or not the portal.
*00:06*
Um, but just it being lengthier than all the other Pokemon games and the way it ties in with the first one.
*00:06*
North American release at least.
*00:06*
I own it.
*00:06*
It is builds on the back of everything else they have done.
*00:06*
And so I really tried to like
*00:06*
Yeah, like for the longest time, I was like, it was so apparent.
*00:06*
It's looking real crazy.
*00:06*
Same deal.
*00:06*
Smart.
*00:06*
Um
*00:06*
Yeah.
*00:06*
I mean they were in the middle they were in the middle of development.
*00:06*
Uh can't wait for Days Gone to
*00:06*
Uh I had never played a persona game.
*00:06*
Um, my number five.
*00:06*
This game is buried in my brain.
*00:06*
It's the living on his own adult logan favorite game, number two.
*00:06*
Yeah, so
*00:06*
Like a hammer or something.
*00:06*
Witcher 3's good, but I don't like think about I don't think about that game.
*00:06*
Um But I need to go back to it.
*00:06*
Um and then you had Jimmy come in who I think you know
*00:07*
Like, and yes, you're still gonna have things littered throughout the game world to do, obviously, but like
*00:07*
You know, that's a bit softer, but
*00:07*
It wouldn't have been on the pro.
*00:07*
But still, like there has been plenty of chances in the past.
*00:07*
Speaking of PS5 Pro, uh they did some montages.
*00:07*
Yeah, if you go back and look at
*00:07*
I know they just came out with Hitman 3 cell shaded version on Quest, so now I'm I'm happy that this is
*00:07*
It just sounds like we're getting more modes.
*00:07*
Shovel Knight.
*00:07*
I can't do it.
*00:07*
I wrote it down on the list.
*00:07*
There's just some interesting
*00:07*
They finally are putting it out and it has all of the DLC, including the Lake House, apparently.
*00:07*
I don't know, but then I sit there and think there's 900 of those things.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
And I love that.
*00:07*
It is the one market is
*00:07*
That's
*00:07*
Tropical Freeze, I've played twice.
*00:07*
Why'd you why'd you kick off uh Witcher 3?
*00:07*
But that played a huge part, like watching League of Worlds.
*00:07*
They seem to have like not been able to probably weren't even expecting the initial response and just haven't been able to upkeep.
*00:07*
I read like the outline of like
*00:07*
Feels like
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
They'll probably just port it to Switch 2.
*00:07*
Um, so I think Kotor really is still the peak of
*00:07*
Yeah, they don't update it in the sense of like here's the new patch notes or whatever.
*00:07*
Perfect portal.
*00:07*
I I I I adore Persona 5.
*00:07*
Uh I dabbled.
*00:07*
There'll be a link in the YouTube description.
*00:07*
Uh but I I think we both independently were like thinking about these lists and thought it'd be fun to revisit them.
*00:07*
So mainly Playstation focused, it seemed like yeah.
*00:07*
So there is a gun in the game.
*00:07*
Follow the breeze.
*00:07*
This is what Sony bought Nixus for.
*00:07*
That is exactly what Last of Us Part One is, right?
*00:07*
So it is I hope they I hope that that happens, but also
*00:07*
I have no idea.
*00:07*
They are, but I wanted to restrict myself.
*00:07*
Yes, it's the best looking.
*00:07*
I'm like, dude, I was still working.
*00:07*
Um, and I had it here at nine.
*00:07*
Like has that moment, right?
*00:07*
I have a lot of fondness for banjo and I I love that series.
*00:07*
And then I replayed the game here for a project.
*00:07*
And then Treasure Trove.
*00:07*
Like they've achieved that.
*00:07*
So it's really not hard at all.
*00:07*
I replayed the trilogy.
*00:07*
Maybe I'll just get into the Batman zone here.
*00:07*
Uh what remains of Edith Finch?
*00:07*
I'm probably actually gonna go play that.
*00:07*
net forward slash mfp-42.
*00:07*
Helldivers 2 was in development forever.
*00:07*
So I guess that's our pulse, but you know what we will be able to play soon?
*00:07*
Okay.
*00:07*
I thought it did.
*00:07*
But the answer is because they're making a movie.
*00:07*
Yes.
*00:07*
And then like I forever locked them into certain spots.
*00:07*
Need to play it.
*00:07*
Um, get it out of here.
*00:07*
Jill, especially after five, like just
*00:07*
Like they're all five is kind of that, but five is also like
*00:07*
But the ride of Red Dead
*00:07*
I mean they've got like seven or eight locations, something crazy
*00:07*
I just feel like we know what it's gonna be.
*00:07*
Never watched it before.
*00:07*
I think this is probably my favorite.
*00:07*
Play the game.
*00:07*
Okay.
*00:07*
But I think it kind of shows in something like Concord that he's
*00:07*
Of
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
Just the PS2 initiative really has been
*00:07*
And so I just wanted to bring up that like I think they have been bringing back so many old games lately and I love it.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
Obviously your job, you're a staff writer over at comicbook.
*00:07*
I I But it's like the top three or four where they're like all inter battling with one another.
*00:07*
When thinking about this one.
*00:07*
And Breath of the Wild is great.
*00:07*
COVID, baby.
*00:07*
It
*00:07*
Like Red Dead 2 was the next step.
*00:07*
Strikers?
*00:07*
And we live in a blessed timeline now.
*00:07*
The first time I played Metal Grossault 4, I played it on my tube TV.
*00:07*
And yeah, I the common thread here, amongst my top three, is that they are different games from different points of my life.
*00:07*
Um so you know there's those
*00:07*
But like those questions, yes, but also
*00:07*
I really like that.
*00:07*
I am but I'm not I'm not
*00:07*
Because I also worked at Games GameStop when they did the
*00:07*
Uh yeah.
*00:07*
Um Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
*00:07*
They integrated those uncharted set pieces.
*00:07*
This is the one where I think I'm gonna swap something.
*00:07*
That year is insane.
*00:07*
It's Breath of the Wild.
*00:07*
Those are the things that I really like about it.
*00:07*
I considered Bloodborne, considered Dark Souls 1, considered Elden Ring.
*00:07*
I'm at a Game Pass in a hot minute, so
*00:07*
Rather than slot it down from number one to number three.
*00:07*
And it's been so long since I've played it.
*00:07*
Let the community do the work for you, buddy.
*00:07*
Gotta catch up before Judas is a secret Bioshock game.
*00:07*
We don't know what we know what Naughty Dog is doing, but we don't know what Naughty Dog is doing.
*00:07*
We don't even know what they're working on officially.
*00:07*
I love that game.
*00:07*
Well it's just like a tighter game too.
*00:07*
The thing for me is still just that I don't even think developers are ready to fully take advantage
*00:07*
But it's also
*00:07*
Gray.
*00:07*
So I I get what you're saying there.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
You're in the jungle.
*00:07*
The bosses in this game are just I think they're the best bosses in any game ever.
*00:07*
I've played it three times now since it came out.
*00:07*
64 style.
*00:07*
Maybe my favorite first-person shooter ever.
*00:07*
He also said in the same interview that whenever he's working on Kingdom Hearts 4, he goes back
*00:07*
But I think that does it.
*00:07*
Okay.
*00:07*
And it's out next year.
*00:07*
So let's just start there.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
It is just, I think, the most
*00:07*
It's true, I guess.
*00:07*
So there's a lot of Metal Gear Solid 3 love.
*00:07*
Also, I did say that Metal Gear is dead, but
*00:07*
I have it on my Steam Deck actually
*00:07*
Or like not critically acclaimed enough type mentality.
*00:07*
GTA six.
*00:07*
It's one of my favorite games ever.
*00:07*
What?
*00:07*
Like what's the what's the pulse at here?
*00:07*
And so I think Jim deserves some credit there.
*00:07*
You know, like I I went and looked the other day, and like it's one of the rare instances where
*00:07*
And if that is the case, that's one of the first games I will be trying, for sure.
*00:07*
So they need like a 360
*00:07*
Um I think a lot of I was saying this uh
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
I think it needs to be
*00:07*
And then it's it's Bona Fides is a horror game.
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
Cool.
*00:07*
I'm gonna say this before my top three.
*00:07*
All these things.
*00:07*
I replayed it for the first time last year.
*00:07*
But is it
*00:07*
Like more so than any other game on this list.
*00:07*
My honorable mentions, just throw them out there.
*00:07*
Like, hey, there's four ancient beast things.
*00:07*
Obviously people play games differently than me.
*00:07*
But then there's like, this is the best experience I've had with a game.
*00:07*
Smash Ultimate Plus Super Edition
*00:07*
Yeah, this is uh
*00:07*
Completely agree with you.
*00:07*
There was that whole
*00:07*
And I'm like
*00:07*
It just continues to hold there.
*00:07*
Yeah.
*00:07*
Those games hold up.
*00:07*
Me too.
*00:07*
It's fine.
*00:07*
He's like the hardware and tech representative.
*00:07*
And I just believe that because he comes from the development side of things.
*00:07*
That type of thing.
*00:07*
And
*00:07*
Um
*00:07*
That game is
*00:07*
It is congruent with let's remaster the PS4 generation.
*00:07*
Yeah, you know, I have the four case scalars and all the things to make everything look really nice and modern.
*00:07*
Like you have to you could go buy a a pretty nice four K T V right now, um, and it would maybe not
*00:07*
Um, but my number 10 was Spider-Man 2, the movie tie-in game.
*00:07*
Yeah, Zelda would be a beefy boy, but it'd be fun.
*00:07*
But I don't think there is any one game that has
*00:07*
So for remake is the one I was debating putting on here.
*00:07*
I c obviously can't speak to this game.
*00:07*
Like it's it's a it works.
*00:07*
Finally, the sequel translated to English.
*00:07*
Yes.
*00:07*
Go listen to it.
*00:07*
But but did you see Namura's comments the other day?
*00:07*
And so we're going to do that with the Sony stuff that's been going on lately.
*00:07*
I didn't I couldn't even think about it.
*00:07*
Okay, that's not terrible.
*00:07*
I would have to Yeah, I mean this the the console's out in just over a month.
*00:07*
Um eight was Banjo Kazooie.
*00:07*
This game's stealth
*00:07*
I mean duh.
*00:07*
Something like that, yeah.
*00:07*
You should.
*00:07*
Yeah, yeah.
*00:07*
I don't have plans for it.
*00:07*
They
*00:07*
So yeah, I like this game a lot.
*00:07*
Did you consider that one very much this time or no?
*00:07*
Two to three hundred years.
*00:08*
But try to
*00:08*
I just mean like a base PS5 update.
*00:08*
I haven't played the previous DLC yet, so I've kind of been waiting to
*00:08*
I wish Nintendo would like
*00:08*
Or at least based on what we couldn't
*00:08*
So I'm I'm gonna save it, I guess, maybe for the end and
*00:08*
Would be good.
*00:08*
I think I had da I had dabbled with it.
*00:08*
Not strikers.
*00:08*
I I I've beaten the base game, so one day I'll go back to it.
*00:08*
Shout out to the monkey boss.
*00:08*
Um all right, alphabetically, just a reminder, mine's just alphabetical
*00:08*
Shovel Knight Dig.
*00:08*
I think the problem with Holst
*00:08*
It seems fine and like conceptually cool.
*00:08*
Sure, yeah.
*00:08*
I'm like, dude, I
*00:08*
Like
*00:08*
I've played Journey once, and that's a game that I I would struggle to go back and replay, I think, because of just
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
I think that's actually why though
*00:08*
And then I'm surrounded by The Last of Us.
*00:08*
So I'm very excited about that.
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
Kind of, I guess.
*00:08*
What if you were a cat fighting Godzilla?
*00:08*
But it just to I don't know.
*00:08*
I demoed it.
*00:08*
The game itself I think is actually still is pretty good.
*00:08*
Nope, I'm gonna make you wait.
*00:08*
It's so over, we're so back.
*00:08*
I want to play that next month.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
I don't have anything ordered yet, but I want to get the controller.
*00:08*
So two birds.
*00:08*
Dead Rising was a mix of both.
*00:08*
COVID, yeah.
*00:08*
It's a beautiful game.
*00:08*
You don't talk too much about it.
*00:08*
Like it's just very
*00:08*
The music, the story, it has just the right amount of like post-game secrets.
*00:08*
I I give Ragnarok a hard time, because Ragnarok has problems.
*00:08*
Like I feel like I need a platformer, but I can't
*00:08*
But just like, you know, this person ruined the game.
*00:08*
I don't like the interpretations of those characters.
*00:08*
Don't tell the people.
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
Yellow.
*00:08*
So it's like if you have a desire for Horizon
*00:08*
Not because Sony sold me on it, but because Digital Founder did.
*00:08*
Um and hopefully some of these patches are obviously out.
*00:08*
Um my number eight is Alan Wake 2.
*00:08*
It's a point-and-click lawyer defense adventure game.
*00:08*
It's like just
*00:08*
Ever.
*00:08*
Out I have never played a game like Outer Wilds.
*00:08*
Uh
*00:08*
Like it doesn't feel raw to a certain degree.
*00:08*
Yeah, it's just massive it's just Well Inquisition I think would have been the one before it.
*00:08*
It really was.
*00:08*
So
*00:08*
Yeah, like we haven't talked about it.
*00:08*
You just picked a game that I haven't played.
*00:08*
I think one of them is still there.
*00:08*
I think so.
*00:08*
I just had to see the graphics with my own eyes kind of thing.
*00:08*
I love that.
*00:08*
And I feel like Sekira is the one I would like the most.
*00:08*
Like it is just you are this samurai and you have to do this task and there's a story and
*00:08*
But if you have played the seven games before it or whatever.
*00:08*
I think if you just say those destroyed that pantheon and fled.
*00:08*
That would have been awesome.
*00:08*
Yeah, they have not released a game since the last time.
*00:08*
It's a lot of fun.
*00:08*
So it's been eight years.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
But like I also love the samurai duels, you know, those are super cool.
*00:08*
Yeah, in reality you can do it any way you want.
*00:08*
It got reworked, right?
*00:08*
Why not Sly Three?
*00:08*
Okay.
*00:08*
I wrote Concord.
*00:08*
Um I just think this is one of the best third-person, like narrative-driven
*00:08*
Get out of here, Kratos.
*00:08*
Any of these other games, top three?
*00:08*
And it's like, all right, we're done.
*00:08*
For a long time I was
*00:08*
Uh so these are like the three eras of my life that I feel like really encapsulate like
*00:08*
Hades I thought of.
*00:08*
And be a public statement.
*00:08*
What else was out that day?
*00:08*
Nintendo came out with a Breath of the Wild remaster tomorrow.
*00:08*
Like you needed to be in line so that you would be toward the end of the line right when the line was paused
*00:08*
Um vast, vast, vast majority of TVs still do not have
*00:08*
And I considered Ultimate and I thought about Ultimate.
*00:08*
You don't need two.
*00:08*
It builds up to a final boss.
*00:08*
And I just I actually just finished the DLC the day we're recording.
*00:08*
I have Emily as away on here.
*00:08*
Have never done a second playthrough of that game ever.
*00:08*
So our very American episode.
*00:08*
So I'm glad that we're both on the same page.
*00:08*
Kills me that I haven't played.
*00:08*
We will never get a game like this from Rockstar again.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Worldwide April.
*00:08*
Mel Gear Solid 3.
*00:08*
Like I I it's the axe is feels good perfect.
*00:08*
Like I want a platformer.
*00:08*
I feel like Shovel Knight was like a moment in time that became a decade in time.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Tell my honorable mentions before I get to or do you just want to know number one?
*00:08*
We've got the ghost of the Yo Tase now.
*00:08*
I mean we're about to have a a switch two.
*00:08*
Man.
*00:08*
That action game thing.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
Yep.
*00:08*
Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door.
*00:08*
Um although Brawl I I mean at the time if Brawl sounds weird, that's just the one I played the most with my friend
*00:08*
Hopefully to play them alongside of you whenever that happens and
*00:08*
Alongside the I knew it was on Switch, but I forgot they brought it to PS4.
*00:08*
Okay, they that might be a thing they do.
*00:08*
And obviously I can easily now.
*00:08*
It's a good episode.
*00:08*
It wasn't sold out.
*00:08*
Oh, don't say so Don't say those
*00:08*
But before we do that, let's let's talk about Sony because
*00:08*
I can't remember the name either.
*00:08*
But that's fine.
*00:08*
I think they just get an update.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
I just thought I would do it through Amazon and I have a card with them and it gives me
*00:08*
But like Star Wars thematically already does that.
*00:08*
Um I almost had both this and Bloodborne on my list.
*00:08*
But obviously done in 3D for the first time and all that stuff.
*00:08*
We'll see.
*00:08*
Um so it's this there's more than ever, but the triple A releases are
*00:08*
I hope you like the color yellow.
*00:08*
I think they're like action platformers, I believe.
*00:08*
It's too clean, man.
*00:08*
And now we've got a new console in in here that they're trying to push and uh
*00:08*
I mean, well, but I guess it'll just be forward compatible, but
*00:08*
Alright.
*00:08*
I don't think they've publicly delayed it.
*00:08*
Still haven't unboxed it and set it up.
*00:08*
And it's it's just disappointing.
*00:08*
Still on my list.
*00:08*
Of like, here's Leon and Chris and
*00:08*
I think you're right.
*00:08*
Um but they could have also done this stuff in-house, I think
*00:08*
Like, oh, it's the Switch again, and it has better internals.
*00:08*
And like these things are gone.
*00:08*
And I don't know if I like that direction so much.
*00:08*
It's just still too well.
*00:08*
Dude, I have COVID jealousy.
*00:08*
Um
*00:08*
Like it's just different killers.
*00:08*
So I'd played the first four.
*00:08*
Not s Persona 5 strikers.
*00:08*
I was like, ah, this is a sign of a good game being seeded in my brain.
*00:08*
Like up there, shortlist.
*00:08*
I love Tropical Freeze.
*00:08*
Yeah.
*00:08*
And so it just comes across
*00:08*
I mean, I know where it is.
*00:09*
And
*00:09*
But like
*00:09*
I was like, oh my gosh, let's just
*00:09*
But like
*00:09*
Switch dock inside, switch dock out here, PS5 inside, PS5 out here.
*00:09*
And my feelings on certain time my feelings on certain things have changed over the past eight years.
*00:09*
Play the game.
*00:09*
Oh no.
*00:09*
Are all sequels really that they gave away for free.
*00:09*
So that's why I don't want to put it on there.
*00:09*
And it's that
*00:09*
This was a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be.
*00:09*
I love Jin.
*00:09*
So it makes sense to once again
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
That year is insane.
*00:09*
No, Jin had his art.
*00:09*
I'm I could be persuaded.
*00:09*
Well, good.
*00:09*
That's exactly what we did last time around.
*00:09*
I I wanted to be tame.
*00:09*
Yeah.
*00:09*
Yeah, it's
*00:09*
So maybe I just I put that in honorable mentions as platformer the graveyard.
*00:09*
It's a little it's a little stacked here.
*00:09*
I remember when that happened actually for you.
*00:09*
Yeah.
*00:09*
Like even with Dead Rising, like
*00:09*
So it's like they're two totally different things, and it's like
*00:09*
It's a transformative game, not only for Zelda, but for the industry.
*00:09*
Yes, yes, this is the naughty dog representative.
*00:09*
Um don't touch it.
*00:09*
I
*00:09*
Birth by Sleep's a great game.
*00:09*
It's like the alien invasion one?
*00:09*
I stand by that.
*00:09*
I don't know how it holds up.
*00:09*
I was thinking about that one quite a bit.
*00:09*
And it actually perfectly encapsulates
*00:09*
Like those things are all huge and they've done well and
*00:09*
Other part of me is like, no, they didn't, Bungie sucks.
*00:09*
So it's like, okay, this makes sense.
*00:09*
I've seen some people talking about that too.
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
I wanted to play and I reviewed it.
*00:09*
Um
*00:09*
Like they have it.
*00:09*
Because inside
*00:09*
Yep.
*00:09*
Like just to see you need to have like some context but not a lot.
*00:09*
It that will probably be out.
*00:09*
It's like, what is
*00:09*
That felt like the more unique thing to get um
*00:09*
You're saying it's something you feel like shouldn't exist.
*00:09*
Send Resident Evil is earlier.
*00:09*
Yeah, I guess it was just nowhere to be found, strangely.
*00:09*
Probably the back half of next year, if not delayed into
*00:09*
Like they're making a horizon MMO too.
*00:09*
So there's like a lot of little small things happening.
*00:09*
Like it's Yeah, you know, that's 13 hours, not forty.
*00:09*
Yeah, because control kind of pieced together like
*00:09*
And
*00:09*
We've talked about this before at length.
*00:09*
But God of War.
*00:09*
And I'm like, well.
*00:09*
That was unfortunate.
*00:09*
Shovel Knight DX
*00:09*
I mentioned um from Software Dark Souls
*00:09*
Yeah, it's not ha I mean reports are that like the showrunner was like
*00:09*
Yeah, because a lot of things referenced in this trailer
*00:09*
Dark times.
*00:09*
It needs to just be yeah, it's bad.
*00:09*
It's not like now there's one mode that does everything.
*00:09*
March?
*00:09*
You have to play on hard mode.
*00:09*
I was gonna ask you about that one.
*00:09*
Hello, you're back a little early this time, or late, I suppose, depending on how you look at it.
*00:09*
But Tim Cook would never say anything like that.
*00:09*
Maybe maybe I should put the order 1886 on my top ten
*00:09*
Like, okay, what are the big franchises I like, and then what are the single games I would pull from them?
*00:09*
Currently every Phoenix Wright game is available on modern
*00:09*
Like that is what is fun about it
*00:09*
We'll see how I do.
*00:09*
Like, obviously
*00:09*
But clearly Judas is Bioshock in space.
*00:09*
He's he's got a Wii in his bed.
*00:09*
I think everything else looks pretty solid.
*00:09*
And this just is clearly providing a promise of
*00:09*
I am uh I'm excited to see all that play out and to have
*00:09*
As I think this is probably my favorite RPG ever now.
*00:09*
I was gonna say it's not gonna fall off that much.
*00:09*
So it's
*00:09*
I'm honestly fine with this for two reasons
*00:09*
It is
*00:09*
Because there's nothing more this generation that I
*00:09*
I'm looking at the list and my brain can't even process it like that.
*00:09*
I could not delete this.
*00:09*
I think that's a good way to
*00:09*
Like they have been around my entire life.
*00:09*
We'll keep it how I have it here.
*00:09*
Like it has been a good
*00:09*
And the movie I think comes out next year.
*00:09*
A lot more people are out there replaying things like this constantly
*00:09*
I'm glad you're happy.
*00:09*
And like
*00:09*
They definitely did something there.
*00:09*
The dun the donkey boss.
*00:09*
Yeah.
*00:10*
But then
*00:10*
Like that bums me out.
*00:10*
Like, what are you supposed to do?
*00:10*
Uh
*00:10*
No, no, no.
*00:10*
Like
*00:10*
But what I think I'm really gonna swap it for is
*00:10*
Two?
*00:10*
Play the game.
*00:10*
Perfectly
*00:10*
I would say this one.
*00:10*
And getting you into it.
*00:10*
Because we were in those trenches.
*00:10*
I I dunno I don't know.
*00:10*
So
*00:10*
Looks so good.
*00:10*
Um the hot swap.
*00:10*
It's time for me to pick a game that you haven't played.
*00:10*
April 7th, 2017.
*00:10*
You fight the final boss.
*00:10*
It is just
*00:10*
So yeah, I decided to put Death's Door on here.
*00:10*
Like, it's just very toxic.
*00:10*
It's where you'll find the links.
*00:10*
I wonder if the key art actually has anything
*00:10*
Elden Ring.
*00:10*
It's been ten years, so maybe they'll be completely different, but
*00:10*
But the GameCube has the tingle tuners.
*00:10*
I knocked out Elden Ring at least this year, so that's something.
*00:10*
There's but I feel like this is kind of a part of it.
*00:10*
I love it.
*00:10*
And it looks like it really
*00:10*
It is so
*00:10*
But Logan, you have to play it.
*00:10*
It's
*00:10*
I think it's a beautiful
*00:10*
You can get deeper thoughts over on those shows.
*00:10*
2026 is
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
And
*00:10*
So I'm I'm really crossing my fingers that we get one.
*00:10*
It's just hard to get to
*00:10*
I'll wake to the conversation surrounding it.
*00:10*
That's a good one too, though.
*00:10*
But if I
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Ugh.
*00:10*
net and uh the light
*00:10*
But he's the developer.
*00:10*
Dark times.
*00:10*
I think it's a top tier survival horror game.
*00:10*
What?
*00:10*
It's not this race to the end type thing.
*00:10*
I don't think about Metal Gear much anymore because
*00:10*
First of all, outer wilds, don't talk about outer wilds.
*00:10*
The game's so good.
*00:10*
Ark of the going you know but
*00:10*
I want to go back to it.
*00:10*
That last level is such a downer.
*00:10*
I mean let's saddle up, buddy.
*00:10*
No one will be able to buy these.
*00:10*
Or you find out uh
*00:10*
That's it.
*00:10*
I I I have played like ten hours of this game.
*00:10*
Multi-bajillion dollar seller million.
*00:10*
We'll see how it pans out.
*00:10*
The next Horizon game, probably the MMO, will launch same day as GTA.
*00:10*
I
*00:10*
I love a good murder mystery.
*00:10*
I remember as a kid
*00:10*
But the Medal Gear Solid Master Collection, Volume One.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
Seems to be pretty prominent.
*00:10*
PS5 came out.
*00:10*
Just a three.
*00:10*
com, you review hardware.
*00:10*
Like Red Dead Redemption 2 should not exist the way it does.
*00:10*
But more often than not, you are playing a specific
*00:10*
I've played it fairly recently and I I love it.
*00:10*
Is that two or one?
*00:10*
I th I do think it is Resident Evil, but Male Gear's probably two.
*00:10*
Yeah, so Outer Wilds right now on PlayStation is
*00:10*
Because
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
Seven, The Last of Us.
*00:10*
Next.
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
Where's the Paper Mario game is out
*00:10*
Just I mean the act of throwing it and pulling it back and then ha how it
*00:10*
Can't just be Dragon Age Veilguard.
*00:10*
It's it's something.
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
I don't know.
*00:10*
But with all with all of that said, I am going to punt Kotor off of my
*00:10*
Oh well.
*00:10*
It's like they're the last of us studio.
*00:10*
Yeah.
*00:10*
The pirate Yakuza game is coming out then.
*00:10*
Game I've played maybe more than any other game ever.
*00:10*
I I think that would be
*00:10*
It is like
*00:10*
It
*00:10*
I'm not a
*00:10*
So that's why.
*00:10*
He did replace him.
*00:10*
We're gonna talk about the Pro here in a little bit, I think, with the 30th anniversary collection.
*00:10*
And if we do a season, like I just come
*00:10*
Um
*00:10*
And the camo, like just the
*00:10*
This is uh this is my childhood game for sure.
*00:10*
It's a great action RPG with really cool magic mechanics.
*00:10*
You have to buy it.
*00:10*
It wasn't even
*00:10*
It's fun.
*00:10*
That staple classic.
*00:10*
It's this in Elden Ring in terms of boss design.
*00:10*
But I love the idea of Galaxy
*00:10*
And they do a good job of updating it, obviously.
*00:10*
You're not just PlayStation, but it's a lot of s
*00:10*
Like I'm not just
*00:11*
Like
*00:11*
Yeah.
*00:11*
I papermore the thousand year door
*00:11*
Really?
*00:11*
Thought about it.
*00:11*
Chapter Select.
*00:11*
And it's like, oh no.
*00:11*
I'll let you choose.
*00:11*
That you and I might think are on each other's list.
*00:11*
It'd be very fun.
*00:11*
This it was a bold move.
*00:11*
But Odyssey really is
*00:11*
I really like it.
*00:11*
Chapter Select season twenty.
*00:11*
Whatever.
*00:11*
Last of us.
*00:11*
I've talked about this at nausea.
*00:11*
Persona 5 Tactica?
*00:11*
Yeah.
*00:11*
Like we'll get that stuff when we get that stuff I guess.
*00:11*
Yep.
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
And
*00:11*
I think Red Dead Online.
*00:11*
It's just like
*00:11*
Like put him in a second game and he's like
*00:11*
I
*00:11*
And I have a sickness and I want my frame rates.
*00:11*
But the games themselves are all very good games.
*00:11*
It's cute.
*00:11*
Axe feel good.
*00:11*
They did drop the ball.
*00:11*
I'm gonna
*00:11*
Like they have given that game out for free in that
*00:11*
Sorry, Uncharted.
*00:11*
I feel like that's all I can say about it.
*00:11*
Well that one guy left and they put out a game.
*00:11*
And I think this is what really solidified Bioshock first for me.
*00:11*
And who founded that?
*00:11*
So like it does have unique offerings, but it's
*00:11*
I don't I can't remember what they're
*00:11*
It's just sitting there.
*00:11*
And so I don't think about them much anymore.
*00:11*
This game is why I like games so much.
*00:11*
And he knows that there's an ending and he kind of
*00:11*
Switch two.
*00:11*
So it is the best example of
*00:11*
You know
*00:11*
It's great.
*00:11*
It's a very good game.
*00:11*
That won't happen.
*00:11*
So
*00:11*
No.
*00:11*
So like I've top to bottom beaten the game.
*00:11*
Deleted it quickly, but I did think about it
*00:11*
He's playing on the Wii in bed.
*00:11*
It's
*00:11*
I don't know.
*00:11*
They're, you know
*00:11*
People would say, what?
*00:11*
Yeah, then you would probably want to remaster something.
*00:11*
Um
*00:11*
So yeah, pretty much.
*00:11*
So like where do you fall?
*00:12*
It
*00:12*
What if you were Bowser with a mustache?
*00:12*
It's an interesting thing for the time.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
3.
*00:12*
Yeah.
*00:12*
And
*00:12*
Like that was
*00:12*
You've actually reviewed quite a bit of PlayStation hardware this year.
*00:12*
Uh
*00:12*
So
*00:12*
Is
*00:12*
They didn't upgrade that thing even
*00:12*
And I think
*00:12*
At all?
*00:12*
Because that's part of why we're here today.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
It's just and we've talked about that.
*00:12*
Nintendo will sell us some moho.
*00:12*
Like just pick up right where the last one left off.
*00:12*
But also the upcoming remake Delta.
*00:12*
I f I love it.
*00:12*
I don't think they've set a date, actually.
*00:12*
So
*00:12*
Dragon Age the Veileguard.
*00:12*
Go pre-order it now.
*00:12*
It's
*00:12*
Not necessarily.
*00:12*
Yeah.
*00:12*
It sounds like developers have
*00:12*
Six, Batman Arkham City.
*00:12*
It fell from nine to ten.
*00:12*
They did drop the ball.
*00:12*
And so I think it's just kind of
*00:12*
Almost a thing.
*00:12*
Man would have been really great if you could
*00:12*
So
*00:12*
It feels very corporate.
*00:12*
I'm like, I don't know.
*00:12*
I was going to play Elden Ring.
*00:12*
And
*00:12*
Just everything about this
*00:12*
That's not bajillion
*00:12*
That's okay.
*00:12*
Um
*00:12*
Um
*00:13*
That won't
*00:13*
Tactica.
*00:13*
I really do.
*00:13*
Run for your life or
*00:13*
You want to talk about
*00:13*
And
*00:13*
Um
*00:13*
It's
*00:13*
That's the game.
*00:13*
Okay
*00:13*
Hooray!
*00:13*
Not really, I guess.
*00:13*
Just
*00:14*
And
*00:14*
Like, you
*00:14*
