# The Craig Mod Pod Universe
One of my favorite writers – Craig Mod – has published a "new" book with Random House and is on the Marketing Trail with a book tour and many, *many* podcasts. I put "new" inside quotes because it is new and also *not* new. It's a complete rewrite of his fine art edition of *Things Become Other Things*.
So the thing became another thing...very on the nose Craig.
I love a [[Craig Mod's Appearance on the Tim Ferriss Show|good podcast]] with Craig and since they are [[The Ratchet of Flippancy with Craig Mod – The Talk Show|somewhat rare]], I have just been listening to Craig for a couple weeks now in a playlist I have dubbed "Mod Pods."
I try not to recommend things before I give them a fair shake or experience them for myself. I have listened to all of these stem to stern and wholeheartedly recommended them. I had heard of *none* of these shows, besides *The Talk Show with John Gruber* ([[‘Not to Get Zealotrous’, with Craig Mod – The Talk Show|obviously]]). Here are the links, but first some general observations.[^2]
---
Craig is asked a lot about his rules for walking, which includes no news, social media, etc.—aka no "teleporting." I found listening to this over and over to be like walking a tightrope between irony and guilt. I am teleporting while someone speaks of the benefits of not teleporting. Reminds me of fast travel in games and [[Walking Zelda – Craig Mod|walking in Zelda]].
Boredom is crucial to creativity. Embrace it. Seek it out.
We live in a world of feedback loops, but they are too quick. We need some time to let the thing marinate. Constantly refreshing site analytics is not good. Checking in every now and then? Probably a smidge better.
Memberships/members should be viewed as giving you permission to do The Thing™. Don't pivot to catering solely to the membership. They want you to keep doing what you do.
Craig, apparently, has a strong butt.
### Mod Pods
#### [[Craig Mod's Appearance on the Tim Ferriss Show]]
If you had to pick one[^1] podcast to listen to, make it this one.
#### [Craig Mod: Adventure, Discipline, and Design. — Living Adventurously 66](https://share.transistor.fm/s/7b11a4ff)
Alastair Humphreys interview has a breadth to it the others do not. It's reach and topics give you a taste of the many sides of Craig.
#### [Craig Mod on Living a Creative Life on Your Own Terms and Being Your Own Initiator — Rob Morgan is a Curious Person](https://www.thecuriouspod.com/questions/craigmod)
I love when hosts can be selfish and ask the curious questions *they* want answers to and seek their own inspiration/motivation. I do the same thing on [[The Max Frequency Podcast|MFP]].
#### [[The Ratchet of Flippancy with Craig Mod – The Talk Show]]
Creatives leveraging the power of AI the right way, at least in what seems to be [[Memory Card 29 – Intentional Tools|the right way]] [[Memory Card 48 – Fuzzy Search|to me]].
#### [303 Craig Mod – Adoptees On](https://www.adopteeson.com/listen/303)
If you wanted to hear more about Craig's experience as an adoptee, this is the one for you. I found it interesting how Craig asked and talked about optimizing the experience. Felt like his computer brain poking out.
#### [Episode 60 - Craig Mod — Prime Lenses](https://www.iainfarrell.com/prime-lenses-podcast/craig-mod)
Listen if you want motivation to use the gear you have and *take the dang photo*. Don't listen if you want to save money on camera gear.
#### [What If You Could Erase Your Life and Start Over — Good Life Project](https://www.goodlifeproject.com/podcast/introspective-adventurous-uncompromising-craig-mod/)
Jonathan Fields is probably the most Ira Glass-like host I have heard since...Ira Glass. A thoughtful, engaging, patient episode.
#### [Craig Mod: Things Become Things That Last — Spotlight On](https://www.spotlightonpodcast.com/craig-mod-things-become-things-that-last/)
How books are made and everything in between.
---
If you made it this far, Hello. Welcome. As I mentioned, Craig's "new" book, *Things Become Other Things*, is out. I am roughly a third of the way through it. Loving it so far. But, like I also said, I try not to recommend things before I give them a fair shake or experience them for myself. I will [finish this book](https://craigmod.com/books/things_become_other_things/). I already love it. I think you will too. Click that link for all the places you can buy it and directly support Craig. If you want A) to support both Craig *and* me and B) get the book on Amazon, this [affiliate link](https://amzn.to/4kOpiOD) will do that. I've been trying them out on my most recent video and thought maybeeeeeee it'd make sense here. Worth a shot.
Either way, please grab the book and listen to some Mod Pods.
[^1]: I know it is technically two, but that'd be like saying *Casino Royale* and *Quantum of Solace* aren't a singular movie in disguise.
[^2]: I found two more Mod Pods in my link-gathering for this one. *[How to take a long walk (w/ Craig Mod)](https://www.ted.com/podcasts/how-to-take-a-long-walk-craig-mod)* and *[Craig Mod – What Japan Taught Him About Self-Worth and Slowing Down](https://www.kevinrose.com/p/craig-mod-what-japan-taught-him-about)*. I have added them to the playlist, but I assume they are just as good as the rest.
