Ironically (and more than likely *intentionally*) announced the day after I/O and a few weeks before WWDC. I think these 9 minutes were more imaginative and stimulating than [Google's two hour presentation](https://www.youtube.com/live/o8NiE3XMPrM) (or even their [10 minute recap](https://youtube.com/watch?v=LxvErFkBXPk)).
I was just thinking how I missed those old Jony narrated product videos. Strange and exciting to hear him talk about new, non-Apple products.
> "Jony and LoveFrom will assume design and creative responsibilities across OpenAI and io.
>
> io will merge with OpenAI.
>
> We loo forward to sharing our work next year."
Wonder when chatGPT will have its iOS 7 moment.
> "And so it's just common sense to at least think, 'surely there's something beyond these legacy products.'"
While true, my emotional brain doesn't want to acknowledge that the smartphone is, in fact, a mature/legacy device. Sort of like Steve Jobs killing the iPod mini for the iPod nano.
John Gruber has [initial vibes on the vibes](https://daringfireball.net/linked/2025/05/21/sam-and-jony-io) on Daring Fireball.
> "This industry needs a heavy dose of new ideas for new devices. This is just a vibes teaser, but the vibe is a shot across the bow. It conveys grand ambition, but without pretension. To say I’m keen to get my hands on what they’re making is an understatement."
While I am a bit cooler on the "products" promised ("the coolest piece of technology the world will have ever seen," really?), I am excited to see Jony make something new. Until the thing ships, it is all vaporware and promises. We shall (hopefully) see next year.
