# Elgato has a Switch 2 Problem
I finally had the chance to set up my Nintendo Switch 2 this morning.[^1][^2] Given the Switch 2 console's [[Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Thoughts & Impressions#The Silicon Tablet|interesting flavor of HDMI]], I opted to integrate it in [[I Have a Problem with Elgato|my PS5 Pro video chain]].[^3] During the set up, I was getting a "green" light from my gear that the video was coming through and could be captured.[^4] I continued with the set-up process, updated the console, transferred some data, and got games installing.
When I went to boot up *Mario Kart World*, I noticed that the recording gear was *not* receiving a signal anymore. I double checked all the cables and switches. I tested the PS5 Pro; that worked fine. My Elgato HD60 X was not receiving any signal. I swapped in my 4K X and it was getting a signal, but it was dark with a blood-red tint. The Switch 2 was set to 4K60.
After exhausting all my troubleshooting ideas, I went to a good ol' Google Search and found a good ol' subreddit [megathread](https://www.reddit.com/r/elgato/comments/1l48p6g/megathread_switch_2_capture_or_streaming_issues/). Elgato is having quite the range of issues with the Switch 2 at launch it seems. At least I am not alone.
I don't think this is Elgato's fault. I suspect something in the day one patch jacked something up in the HDMI signal for them? Seems odd that it was working for me before the patch. Still, it's not great especially after [confirming compatibility](https://x.com/elgato/status/1927804245312491987) a week ago. Hopefully this gets resolved soon.

Can I update myself before I even press "publish?" I just walked out to my office to get a screenshot of the blood-red capture. The 4K X picture came through clean. Unfortunately, we know [[I Have a Problem with Elgato|I can't use the 4K X with my set up]]. My HD60 X still is getting no signal. I tried the one "solution" I saw on reddit (power cycle the console) and no luck. Further investigation clearly required.

> The blood moon capture returned. I'm getting ready to write about this all again, but it felt pertinent to [link to the capture here](https://youtu.be/z0kpUVgUuRs).
[^1]: Yesterday was *very* busy with work and my own birthday festivities with the family.
[^2]: Nice set up process. I like the slight bit of music. Felt good to have a little character back.
[^3]: My HDMI 2.1 splitter has two inputs that auto switch depending on the incoming signal. Handy.
[^4]: Technically, the light is red, but that meant all systems were go.
