# dbrand Promises Killswitch 2 Joy-Con Grip Replacements A couple weeks ago, dbrand started shipping their Switch 2 case—the Killswitch 2. I ordered one after [[How dbrand's Switch 2 Dock Adapter Works|easing my cooling concerns]] and got it last week. The day mine was out for delivery, I saw a hubbub on their subreddit about the case weakening the magnetic connection between the Joy-Con 2 and the console, so much so that the console would just plop off when picked up by the controller. I was quite nervous that day. I put on the case and immediately tested the strength. Mine didn't fall off, so I took it as reddit users over exaggerating. Turns out that [dbrand](https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/nobody-holds-their-switch-2-like-this-dbrand-responds-to-claims-its-killswitch-detaches-joy-cons/) did too. The backlash has been so severe though that dbrand has pivoted and is [replacing the grips for every single order for free](https://www.reddit.com/r/dbrand/comments/1ljlhwy/joycon_detachment_update_part_2_were_fixing_it/). > "Because we have two versions we’re working through that are even better. > > 1. The first is fundamentally similar to our current offering. The key difference is that it features an even thinner retaining lip compared to the “good” stock we’ve already shipped. We pushed to the limit of mass-producibility with this solution and have confirmed that it’s both viable at scale and will provide a significant improvement over not just the problematic units, but even the current “good” stock. > 2. The second is an entirely new retaining lip design that fully resolves the detachment issue. With this design, everything will remain securely attached, even under the stress of shaking your Joy-Con like a maniac, one-handed, with no additional support on the body of the console. Effectively, it would perform like a stock NS2." Their post goes a little into the details as to why they have to experiment between the two possibilities. They plan on updating everyone on July 10 when the second method would be ready for mass production. Good on them for pivoting. I forgive them for "[reincarnating Steve Jobs](https://youtube.com/watch?v=i8tXyfjfnB0&t=139)." I am particularly happy about getting new grips even though I am unaffected. The hand feel is good. The additional grip in mouse mode is a huge plus too. The mouse clip doesn't fit as snuggly, but I suppose that'll be fixed with the new grips! The Killswitch 2 is a super slick case and docking solution for the Switch 2. I love the look and the hard cover case. I am traveling next week and am eager to give it all a shot on the road.
