I can't believe buying the PS5 Pro at launch was buying it at near half off.

The inventory for the PS5 Pro has been out of stock the closer we get to Grand Theft Auto VI's launch on November 19, 2026. The supply has been so constrained that Sony has re-introduced a lottery system in Japan for the opportunity to give them ¥137,980 ($872.28~) to buy a new one. PlayStation Lifestyle reports that this shortage may continue into early 2027. This shortage is another good reason for Sony to push out QSSR for base PS5 consoles.

Back in March this year, Sony raised the prices again. The PS5 Pro starts at $899 new, which is more than it cost me for the console, the official stand, and a disc drive back at the mid-gen console's launch two years ago.

What's so striking to me is GameStop following the second-hand market so blatantly. Prichecharting shows the spike happening within the last month. I wonder how high and how long this spike will last.

This generation continues to validate to me buying all these consoles at launch. Never lived through something like this. It makes me wonder if justifying a PS6 at launch makes more and more sense or if I am succumbing to the RAMageddon price fluctuating madness. I wonder if we will ever see price drops on hardware again.
