Summary

A passionate licensed title that went on to, in my opinion, surpass the film it was based upon. The team at Rare poured it all into this title and created a multiplayer legend. This one is a N64 must own.

Acquisition

Bought it at a local mom and pop after it was on my list for years. Wanted to have it for the arrival of my Analogue3D. Turns out that copy was not working, so I had to go back and try to swap it. They opted to use Brasso on the pins. Now I will definitely not take off the warranty sticker they placed on the back.

Memories

"Sticking with the Nintendo 64, do you remember staying up all night playing four player split screen in GoldenEye? I do. Nostalgia plays heavy into this decision. GoldenEye 007 was truly the start of playing an FPS for hours upon hours with your friends. The game never stopped being fun with all its add ons and many maps."

That is a quote from my piece on the Top Ten Multiplayer Games of All Time. This might be more telling of my age now, but I don't have as vivid of memories portrayed in that article. Perhaps that is what 13 years will do to a man...

If I squint from behind my retrospective glasses, I see myself playing this with the kid across the street, David. I see the level select, the watch menu, and blips come back. I know I played my fair share of GoldenEye, but here at 31, those memories are fading.

I do remember being super excited for the remake on Wii from that E3 reveal. I'll save those memories for that entry.
