# Xbox Raises All the Prices There could not have been a more ironic news story than this after publishing [[Where Did the Price Drops Go|Where Did the Price Drops Go?]] yesterday. > If you go out and buy a Xbox Series X with a Disc Drive off the store shelves today, you'll pay the same price I did on November 10, 2020—$499.99.[^6] Granted, there's no difference to the baseline Series X today. You can get a disc-drive-less model for $50 cheaper though. Microsoft, [today](https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/console/may-2025-pricing-updates); > "As of May 1, we have adjusted recommended retailer pricing for our consoles and controllers worldwide. We also expect to adjust the pricing of some of our new, first-party games starting this holiday season to $79.99... > > We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development." The console prices have gone up by a minimum of $80. Here's a table for you all. | Console SKU | Price Yesterday | Price Today | | ---------------- | --------------- | ----------- | | Series S 512GB | $299.99 | $379.99 | | Series S 1TB | $349.99 | $429.99 | | Series X Digital | $449.99 | $549.99 | | Series X | $499.99 | $599.99 | | Series X 2TB | $599.99 | $729.99 | I find it remarkably rich that a Series X can now cost more than a PS5 Pro...for now. I would not be surprised if Sony makes a similar move, given the current tariff fluctuation. I am actually more surprised that the *trillion* dollar company wouldn't just take the hit on the Xbox to maintain a price. Heck, Nintendo is maintaining their prices for now. Shocked that Microsoft made the first move here. Speaking of Nintendo, Microsoft is following suit and will be pricing "some" of their first-party games at $80 this holiday. The bump is coming for us all. I suspect this will actually help push more consumers toward Game Pass, which is what Phil really wants any way.
