Summary
An arcade-y skateboarding title that I played a ton of as a child. You pick a skater, board, and specs, then go skate in outlandish environments collecting tapes, letters, and high combos. It captures an attitude and energy of skating that was I was primed to receive in the early aughts.
Acquisition
My dad bought THPS along with Star Fox 64, Pokémon Stadium Donkey Kong 64, some maybe some other games that I don't remember (those distinctive, never-before-seen cartridge colors win the memory pool), probably a controller or two, and a Transfer Pak.
Memories
I played this game all the time. We were obsessed with learning the tricks and finding all the collectibles. I would scour the web for cheats, moves, and secrets. When I pulled off a backflip with Bob Burnquist through the concrete rafters in the Warehouse and Burnside, I felt unstoppable.
I remember desperately needing a Memory Pak to save my game. One of my dad's friends (who I think also had one of the Twisted Metal games) gave me a Memory Pak that I still have today. I was able to successfully back that card up too.
