Summary

A sneaky crew of thieves sets out to reclaim Sly Cooper's family tome—The Thievius Raccoonus. Slink and steal your way across the globe against a colorful cast of animal characters in this captivating 3D platformer. You ain't ever heard a bass line like those in the game.

Acquisition

I bought this at a GameStop—twice! The first copy I got was stutter-y during the first few videos. Game played fine, so I decided to trade it in and buy a different copy. The sales clerk asked and I explained. Amazed they let me do it.

Memories

After Kingdom Hearts, this is what made me fall in love with PlayStation 2. I wouldn't own one until the 9th grade, but I got my fill of the PS2 experience from the neighborhood kids during my elementary years. The boy Ryan down the street had all the Sly Cooper games as they came out and I played them all there. I suspect I was the driving force too because I fell in love with the characters, world, and mechanics.

The entire trilogy would be the first three games I'd buy for my own PS2 in the summer of 2008.

I have vivid memories of us struggling in the car race mission in Muggshot's world. Beating that led to much celebration. The same for Mz. Ruby and her boss battle. This was a collective effort that I think helped cement this as an all-timer for me.

Of course, I can't forget to directly call out Playing Sly Cooper with My Life in Gaming. I loved watching someone try the game for the first time and having the thrill of playing with a friend come back. It sparked a desire in me to play the series again, which I ticked off this first game in the summer of 2026.
