Summary

An isometric exploration and puzzle game with a splash of combat. Abundant inspiration form the likes of The Legend of Zelda, Fez, and classic adventure games, with a profound admiration and respect for the Instructional Manual, something near and dear to my heart. It offers a unique overall experience with uneven combat and mental gymnastics that might be better experienced alongside friends than alone; at the very least with a pad and pen.

Acquisition

I bought this from Fangamer when it was announced for PS4. I snagged the deluxe edition with the deluxe hardback manual. Because of this game's love and respect for instruction manuals, I knew I wanted the whole package without having ever played.

Memories

It was a annual resolution game in 2024 that carried over into 2025. I tackled it in the autumn of '25 while in a bit of a looser gaming season. The mental hurdles were satisfying. As a fellow Instruction Manual enthusiast, this game speaks to me on a deep level. It's "true ending" puzzles are too obtuse though for one to solve on their own...which may be the point.

I played this also when I got a new iPad, my first really since college. I took advantage of Freeform and my recordings to make a collage of pages, maps, etc. to mark up myself. This elevated my enjoyment and made as far as I got on my own possible.
