Summary

The transformational, full motion control origin Zelda story that came out during the 25th anniversary. It's a game swirled up in ambitions, celebrations, and motions. While handhold-y, I find the experience worthy of the fuss.

Acquisition

Bought at launch as the bundle with the gold Wii Remote Plus. I remember paying for a decent chunk of it with change. Oh to be seventeen again.

Memories

I remember asking to skip church to go get the game as soon as possible with my pal Josh. That request was denied, so we hustled to the mall after church and got our copies. I went to his house and watched him play the opening hours before going home and doing it all myself. I was enamored and enveloped in the quest. It was and remains one of my favorite Wii and Zelda titles, despite its shortcomings.

I did let my girlfriend at the time borrow the game during a trip out of town. I gave her the game, box, and probably the gold Wii Remote. The box came back crushed by the weight of her suitcase. I was about as crushed. I learned that people, even your girlfriend, won't care about the same things you do with the same level of care (or obsession).

In 2019, I tried to play all the Zelda games. While I did not complete that feat, I did complete Skyward Sword. I started on June 21, 2019 and took a month to beat it. I chronicled the adventure on Twitter. I even packed my Wii on a trip to see my parents in July and beat the game standing in my dad's office.
