Summary

A crowning achievement that took the formula from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and beautifully brought it to life in 3D.The quest through time to defeat evil as a boy becomes a man far too quickly. Eternal jank has made it also a titan in the speedrunning scene with legendary runs.

Acquisition

This was an "early" Valentine's Day gift in 2019. It may be the only expensive Valentine's Day gift I ever get. I saw Royal Empire Gaming post that this almost entirely sealed copy of Ocarina of Time had come in to the shop. The box had the "H" sealed shrink wrap still on with on the slits at the flap opened to remove the game. All the paper work was there too. Felt like as close as I'd ever get to seeing a sealed copy of the game.

Memories

Besides the circumstances of buying this particular copy. I don't have too many memories of this version of the game. I remember Majora's Mask at the neighbor's house, but not so much Ocarina.

I did play through the Forest Temple on this though, I think. I remember the tube TV in our first apartment, the consoles on a chair to its right. The warm thrum of the tube as I interacted with the N64 version for the first real time.

The title screen is eternal.

A memory has come to me. I remember emulating this game on my family iMac shortly after I had beaten Wind Waker. I opened a chest inside the Deku Tree, the theme built up, Link dove in the chest, feet kicking, and I thought

"Wait a minute. This is from Wind Waker! How did they do that? Ohhhhhhhhh right. This came first."
